When your entire family is wiped out by a power-hungry dynasty, what do you do? If you’re Boy, you train with a shadowy shaman, harness the rage of your inner gamer, and channel it all into becoming a lean, mean vengeance machine. Played brilliantly by Bill Skarsgård (It, The Crow), this post-apocalyptic action saga follows Boy, our deaf and mute protagonist, as he tears through waves of enemies searching for his family’s killer, the cunning and deranged Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen, X-Men).
In his quest for vengeance, Boy crosses paths with a resistance crew, faces off against martial arts tyrants, and wrestles with the ghost of his rebellious sister. With brutal action sequences, a dash of dry wit, and a chaotic dystopian backdrop, you haven’t seen an action film quite like Boy Kills World.
On how he prepared for such a physical role, Bill Skarsgård says, “I would like to think of myself as a physical actor. I like to perform physically and this was a huge challenge for me with all the action moves. So I watched a lot of martial arts movies. It was sort of like learning a completely new language. We trained for six weeks, transforming my body to fit the role, then on top of that, learn how to fight — not only the action, but the physicality of how the character moved.”On how he felt about casting Bill Skarsgård, director Moritz Mohr tells GamesRadar, “Skarsgård is super expressive with his face, that alone is one big selling point for Boy and he’s a very physical actor but no action movies come to mind. On that first call with him, he was amazing and I was like, ‘So yeah, we got the acting part covered, of course, you would knock it out of the park and I know that, but are you up for doing action?’ and he’s like, ‘Absolutely. Big MMA, UFC fan. I want to get in shape. I want to train. I want to do this the right way.’ I was like, ‘Okay, if you say, so I’m inclined to trust you there.'”
Don’t miss Boy Kills World when it drops on Lionsgate Play this December 27.
