Mindful Shopping is Here: Australia’s Scoop Wholefoods Lands in the Philippines

A new approach to eco-friendly living meets Filipinos as Australian cult-favorite Scoop Wholefoods and Scoop Whole Beauty opens in the Philippines—introducing a refill-led retail experience where shoppers buy exactly what they need, when they need it.

L R Christian Tan Paul McEachern Christine Coqueiro Romy Sia Jeremy Kirk Bettina Kirk Daisy Clasper
(L-R) Christian Tan (President, Healthy Options Group), Paul McEachern (First Secretary for Economic Investment, Australian Embassy), Christine Coqueiro (Vice President – Retail Development, Rockwell Land), Romy Sia (Managing Director, Healthy Options Group), Jeremy Kirk (Founder, Scoop Wholefoods), Bettina Kirk (Founder, Scoop Wholefoods), Daisy Clasper (Founder, Scoop Whole Beauty)

Located at Power Plant Mall, Scoop Wholefoods — along with its personal care counterpart, Scoop Whole Beauty— offers a modern, eco-friendly way to shop. Instead of single-use plastic sachets, Scoop elevates this practice into a zero-waste routine, allowing shoppers to buy exact quantities using reusable containers or paper bags without compromising quality while supporting sustainability.

“Shopping by weight gives people the freedom to make healthier choices that respect both their budget and the planet,” share founders Jeremy and Bettina Kirk. “By choosing only the quantities they need, shoppers take full control of their spending, avoid waste and presumption, and reduce single-use plastics.”

“Filipinos have long understood the practicality buying in custom portions. Bringing Scoop to the Philippines allows us to elevate that familiar habit into a modern, zero-waste lifestyle,” say Romy Sia, Managing Director of Healthy Options Group.

    KV 3

    Redefining the Eco-Friendly Shopping Experience

Founded in Sydney in 2013 and inspired by the vibrant traditional markets of Malta, Scoop Wholefoods began as a simple family idea built on a shared purpose. Today, with over 20 locations worldwide, that Australian family spirit connects high-quality wholefoods, healthier living, and care for the planet.

Scoop introduces a fresh retail model built on choice, discovery, and sustainability across its food and personal care offerings. No longer limited to fixed pack sizes, customers have the flexibility to purchase in bulk and in exact quantities through a pay-by-weight approach. On top of enabling them to purchase according to their budget, doing so also encourages pantry freshness by ensuring ingredients are constantly replenished rather than left forgotten.

“Conscious living is best integrated into daily routines when it is made intuitive and practical for shoppers,” Sia added. “Whether you need a single pinch of a specialty spice for a new recipe or a full week’s supply of household staples, you buy only what serves your home, eliminating both wasted food and wasted money.”

Beyond encouraging conscious pantry management, Scoop transforms routine errands into an engaging, interactive lifestyle. Shoppers can bring their own containers to eliminate single-use packaging, turning standard grocery runs into a deliberate ritual of discovery as they choose, scoop, and sample across organic whole foods, natural treats, and pantry staples.

Scoop works closely with artisanal producers in Australia to develop products tailored to customer preferences, highlighted by crowd favorites like Byron Bay chocolate-coated fruits and nuts, alongside freshly prepared granolas and mueslis.

While Scoop brings its signature international selection to Manila, the Philippine store proudly integrates local sourcing into the retail experience. Customers can look forward to homegrown staples, including locally harvested rice from Family Farms and fresh, probiotic kombucha on tap from Brye and Brew. These initial partnerships bring Filipino producers directly into Scoop’s zero-waste ecosystem, with plans to expand its network of local farmers, artisans, and makers to offer shoppers even more sustainable local discoveries.

    Scoop Whole Beauty

    Championing Circular Beauty

The refill philosophy extends straight into self-care through Scoop Whole Beauty, bringing zero-waste principles to personal care routines. The dedicated beauty arm offers 100% vegan, palm-oil-free, and toxin-free cosmetics and skincare crafted from ethically sourced, earth-based ingredients.

Shoppers can purchase liquid soaps, face masks, and body oils by weight, or explore plastic-free alternatives like solid shampoo bars and compostable beauty tools. To further eliminate single-use plastic, Scoop collaborates with Australian artisans on body care housed in fully compostable packaging, including natural deodorants, face washes, and lip balms.

Scoop’s lightweight, breathable mineral makeup line is especially suited for the warm, humid climate —absorbing oil and moisture while providing buildable, long-wearing coverage in tones crafted for Filipino skin. Customers can curate makeup palettes using plastic-free, refillable pans, allowing them to replace individual shades as needed without discarding an entire compact.

    Scoop Wholefood

The Scoop Experience: Refill, Reuse, Repeat

Customers can bring their own clean containers from home or grab recyclable paper bags provided throughout the store. Empty containers are weighed at the counter first to ensure shoppers pay strictly for the contents brought home. From there, customers can explore the aisles at their own pace, gathering their selections before heading to the register to complete payment by weight.

“We designed Scoop as a welcoming space for everyone, whether you are taking your first zero-waste step or are a seasoned refiller,” share Jeremy and Bettina Kirk. “Scoop aims to be a place that enables people to take home high-quality ingredients with complete confidence that they are nourishing their families while caring for the planet.”

Visit Scoop Wholefoods at Power Plant Mall, Rockwell, Makati City, and experience a fresh, zero-waste approach to daily shopping.

Starbucks Traditions Is Back Today! Celebrate 24 Years of Holiday Magic with Five New Collectibles to Get Excited About

It’s almost time to count those Starbucks stickers again! One of the country’s favorite holiday traditions is making its annual comeback, bringing with it new collectibles, festive surprises, and another heartwarming story about the people who make the season special.

    Starbucks Kami Naman

Celebrating its 24th year in the Philippines, Starbucks Traditions returns on November 3, 2026, with this year’s theme, “Wrapped in Joy.” Along with a new holiday film featuring an iconic OPM soundtrack, Starbucks Philippines is introducing its expanded 2027 Starbucks Traditions Collection, now featuring five items instead of four.

Whether you’re already planning how to complete your sticker card or simply looking forward to adding another collectible to your everyday essentials, there’s plenty to get excited about.

A Holiday Tradition Wrapped in Joy

Since its first collection in 2004, Starbucks Traditions has become part of the Filipino Christmas countdown. For many, it’s an annual ritual of collecting stickers, comparing progress with friends, and looking forward to welcoming the new year with a fresh planner.

This year’s “Wrapped in Joy” theme puts the spotlight on thoughtful gestures and the happiness that comes from being remembered. It’s about the little things that make the holidays meaningful, from an unexpected visit to a gathering planned especially for someone who usually does all the planning.

And that’s exactly what the brand’s new holiday film is all about.

“Kami Naman” Celebrates the Friends Who Make Every Gathering Special

Titled “Kami Naman” (It’s Our Turn), the 2027 Starbucks Traditions film follows Mara, the friend who always takes the lead in bringing her barkada together.

She’s the one who organizes get-togethers and makes sure everyone has something to look forward to. But this holiday season, her friends decide it’s time to return the favor. They surprise her at Starbucks with a planner already filled with gatherings they’ve arranged for her throughout the coming year.

Set to the Eraserheads’ beloved OPM classic “With a Smile,” the film delivers a familiar reminder: the love and effort we give to others don’t go unnoticed.

You can also hear the song playing in Starbucks stores nationwide from November 3, 2026, to January 4, 2027.

Meet the 2027 Starbucks Traditions Collection

  • Monster Munch! Here Are Some Tasty Snack Picks for your Horror Movie Marathon

Monster Munch! Here Are Some Tasty Snack Picks for your Horror Movie Marathon

Whether you’re watching with the whole barkada or braving a horror movie alone, there’s a snack for every kind of movie night.

There’s something about Halloween that makes us willingly chase the thrill of a good scare. We know that suspicious noise coming from the basement is probably bad news, and we know that splitting up is never a good idea. Yet somehow, we keep watching, eager to find out what happens next.

Of course, how you choose to scare yourself is entirely up to you. Some prefer watching horror movies with friends (because misery loves company), while others would rather enjoy a good scare alone. And then there are those who couldn’t care less about what’s playing, as long as there are snacks.

Whichever kind of horror movie watcher you are, here’s what to munch on this Halloween.

    URC PR PHOTO HALLOWEEN 2026

For the Barkada That Screams Together: Chippy Barbecue and C2 Litro Lemon

You know it’s going to be a good movie night when half the group is screaming at the screen and the other half is laughing at them.

Keep Chippy Barbecue within reach for everyone to munch on between jump scares and hilarious reactions. Throw in a C2 Litro Lemon for the group, and you’ve got the refreshments covered.

For the Horror Buff Who’s Seen It All: Chicharron ni Mang Juan Espesyal Suka’t Sili

We all know someone who takes their horror movies seriously. They’ve seen all the classics, know their way around foreign horror films, and have strong opinions about which sequels should never have been made. For them, one movie is never enough. It’s always a full-blown horror marathon.

And what better way to keep the marathon going than with a snack that keeps you craving another bite? Keep Chicharron ni Mang Juan Espesyal Suka’t Sili within reach for an asim-anghang treat that’s *nakakagana*, perfect for munching on as you work your way through your horror movie watchlist.

For Those Who Dare to Watch Alone: Piattos Roadhouse Barbecue

There’s watching a horror movie, and then there’s watching a horror movie alone. With the lights off. At night.

If you’re the type who enjoys a good scare without anyone interrupting, Piattos Roadhouse Barbecue makes the perfect companion for some well-deserved me-time. Think about it: no one talking over important scenes, no one asking you to explain the plot, and no one suggesting you switch to a comedy halfway through.

Just you, your go-to horror movie, and a bag of your favorite hexagonal potato crisps you don’t have to share with anyone. Now that’s what we call uninterrupted me-time.

For the One Who’s Just There for the Snacks: Magic Chips Cheese

Let’s be real: Not everyone who shows up for a horror movie night is actually interested in watching horror movies.

Maybe you were invited by a friend. Or maybe you heard there would be food and decided that was reason enough to leave the house.

If you’re more invested in the snack selection than the movie itself, Magic Chips Cheese should be right up your alley. They’re flavorful, crunchy, and satisfying enough to keep you occupied while everyone else is busy figuring out who’s going to survive.

Whether you’re screaming with the barkada, enjoying a solo scare, or simply showing up for the food, the right snacks and drinks can make any horror movie night more enjoyable. So, pick your favorite scary flicks, stock up on your go-to munchies from Universal Robina Corporation (URC). Get ready for a Halloween marathon filled with good scares and even better snacking.

  • Meet Sari Kitchen: your new neighborhood destination for Asian comfort food

Meet Sari Kitchen: your new neighborhood destination for Asian comfort food

From familiar Filipino comfort food to sumptuous flavors from Thailand and across Asia, Sari Kitchen is shaking up Makati’s dining and nightlife scene with a refreshed identity, a more focused menu, and a renewed vision for what a neighborhood restaurant can be.

Formerly known as Thai Mookata, the restaurant has moved away from its original Thai hot pot and grill concept to embrace a broader culinary direction built around accessibility and discovery. Guided by the tagline “Your Neighborhood Asian Kitchen,” Sari Kitchen combines Filipino and Thai staples with Asian fusion-style dishes in a welcoming space for everyday meals, after-work gatherings, and long evenings with friends and family.

    image 2

The rebrand, according to co-owners Ely Buendia, Pat Sarabia, and Audry Dionisio aligns with their collective and individual tastes and with the natural progression of what Sari Kitchen has become: a contemporary nightlife and dining hub specializing in Asian comfort food.

“For a year we’ve tried to really not change anything at all since we took over the place, but we decided it was time to make a change when we saw who was going to Sari,” Ely Buendia explains. “And let’s face it, nobody was familiar with Mookata.”

For Sarabia, the new name offers a more distinctly Filipino identity while strengthening the restaurant’s relationship with Sari-Sari Bar, its intimate bar tucked within the establishment. “We wanted something more accessible and Filipino, and feel that it aligns more with the branding of Sari Sari bar,” she says.

Dionisio adds that the transformation also creates room to move beyond a concept inherited from the previous ownership. “Thai Mookata gave us a great starting point and taught us a lot about the food and beverage business and the kind of dining experience our guests respond to. Over time, though, we realized that we wanted more room to explore beyond one cuisine or style of dining. Also, Thai Mookata was a concept of the previous owner, so we wanted to change it to something that was more us.”

    image 1

A broader culinary identity, grounded in comfort

While Thai Mookata is focused on a specific cuisine and the communal experience of hot pot and grilling, Sari Kitchen now takes on a more specialized approach to Asian dining. Its identity is defined not by one culinary tradition but by what emerges when familiar flavors, personal experiences, and regional influences come together.

The shift, according to the owners, is about creating a cohesive menu that people recognize and crave, alongside interpretations that introduce something unexpected without sacrificing familiarity.

“The biggest difference is freedom,” Dionisio says. “Thai Mookata naturally operated within a very specific culinary identity. With Sari Kitchen, we’re able to look across Asia for inspiration, from flavors and dishes we grew up eating to things we’ve discovered through travel, restaurants, street food, and our own experiences.”

In developing the menu, the team focused on a simple but personal question: Would they genuinely want to eat the dishes themselves?

Dionisio relates, “We didn’t want to create dishes just because they sounded inventive. There still has to be familiarity and comfort at the heart of the menu. The goal is for the menu to feel exciting without being complicated.”

The newly improved selection veers away from the predecessor’s unli-buffet format. With options better tailored to individuals and couples, Sari Kitchen lets diners choose their own dishes, discover personal favorites, and return for something different on their next visit.

    Your neighborhood Asian kitchen

Integral to Sari Kitchen’s rebrand is the idea that good food doesn’t need an occasion. Instead of positioning itself solely as a destination for a particular dining experience, the restaurant aims to become a familiar neighborhood fixture for spontaneous meals, post-work decompression, casual drinks, and conversations that extend well beyond dinner.

“Well, it’s right there in the tagline: it’s an unassuming and unpretentious place,” Buendia says. “We want diners to be surprised and delighted to find something like this in the neighborhood.”

For Sarabia, that means becoming the neighborhood’s after-work watering hole and go-to comfort-food destination. Dionisio imagines an even more personal role for the restaurant: a space that feels like an extension of home, where guests can talk about their day, laugh, disagree, celebrate, and simply enjoy each other’s company.

“You can drop by for a casual meal, bring your family, meet friends for dinner, have a few drinks, kill traffic, or discover something new on the menu without the experience ever feeling intimidating or overly formal,” she says.

Beyond the plate: a space to settle into

Moving away from the bright lights and stainless-steel aesthetic of its previous incarnation, Sari Kitchen pivots toward a warmer, more relaxed environment, letting guests experience the space with openness. The intention is to create a space that feels lived-in rather than overly designed, balancing the energy of a social gathering place with the comfort of a familiar neighborhood staple.

Sarabia also highlights a distinctly communal element of the restaurant’s social experience: karaoke, a familiar fixture at Filipino gatherings with friends and family. The addition reinforces Sari Kitchen’s focus on shared experiences, where dining gives way to singing, conversation, and spontaneous celebrations.

“We want the entire experience to reflect the idea of your family’s own kitchen, like having your friends over,” Dionisio says. “We want guests to feel like they can settle in rather than simply eat and leave.”

Sari-Sari Bar: keeping the creative spirit alive

An integral part of the establishment’s identity is Sari-Sari Bar, an intimate space within the restaurant that has built its own following—thanks to live jazz sessions,  production nights, and film-centered gatherings. As Sari Kitchen enters its next chapter, the bar remains an important expression of the venue’s commitment to culture, creativity, and community.

Its programming, including themed trivia events such as Cinephile Nights, reflects the owners’ interest in bringing people together through communal, family-style experiences. Plans include more trivia and game nights, alongside the bar’s continuing mix of music-led and film-oriented events.

“We were always on the lookout for new and exciting experiences at Sari Bar. And that’s not going to change any time soon,” Buendia says.

Rather than overhaul the bar’s identity, the team intends to build on what already works while exploring new ways to bring people together. The restaurant and bar work together to offer different experiences under one roof: a satisfying meal, a casual drink, a night of music, or an evening spent discovering something new.

Together, Sari Kitchen and Sari-Sari Bar anchor a larger vision of hospitality that treats food, culture, and community as connected parts of the same experience.

A place to keep coming back to

As Sari Kitchen settles into its new identity, its ambitions remain grounded in the everyday pleasures of dining out. The goal is not simply to introduce a new name or a wider menu, but to establish a lasting place in the neighborhood’s social and culinary landscape.

For Buendia, the aspiration is simply straightforward: to become the area’s dependable destination for great, affordable food. For Sarabia, success also means creating a setting where people can build happy memories, forge new friendships, and strengthen existing relationships. Dionisio shares that long-term vision, seeing Sari Kitchen as a place that can accommodate the many rhythms of everyday life—from quick meals and after-work drinks to spontaneous reunions and evenings that unfold without a plan.

With its refreshed identity, more expansive culinary direction, and continued commitment to creative programming, Sari Kitchen invites Makati diners to discover a neighborhood kitchen that feels familiar from the first visit and gives them a reason to return.
