The Minions are chasing Hollywood dreams, and as expected, things get wildly out of hand.
In Minions & Monsters, the lovable, overall-wearing troublemakers set out to break into the movie business. But in true Minion fashion, their plan does not simply lead to cameras, sets, and stardom. Instead, they accidentally unleash monsters on Earth, placing humanity in danger and turning their big-screen ambitions into a hilarious global crisis.
Now, with chaos spreading fast, the Minions must fix the very mess they created. Helping them, challenging them, and sometimes making things even worse are a new lineup of unforgettable characters, from a tiny creature with terrifying power to a robot-alien overlord with secrets of his own.

Goomi: A Small Monster with a Big Surprise
For Minions James and Henry, making a movie sounds easy enough. Step one: come up with a story. Step two: make it exciting. Step three: add a real-life monster.
What could possibly go wrong?
Using a spellbook, the pair summons Goomi, a tiny green creature inspired by Cthulhu. At first, Goomi is not exactly what the Minions had in mind. They expected something huge, fearsome, and ready to terrify audiences. Instead, they get a surprisingly adorable little monster whose cute appearance does not quite match his alarming nature.

Still, Goomi becomes an important part of their journey. Since he is not the cinematic creature James and Henry imagined, he joins them in searching for the monsters that might finally bring their movie vision to life.
Director Pierre Coffin brought in South Park co-creator Trey Parker to give Goomi his voice, and the challenge was anything but simple.
“Pierre gave me what might be the hardest voice direction possible: make this tiny Cthulhu-like monster sound really cute,” Parker says. “That’s a tall order when you’re working with the guy who created the Minions, because he’s already set the world record for cute. I do a lot of voices on South Park, so the challenge for us was finding something that felt new and specific to Goomi, and didn’t just sound like a tiny Cartman. Pierre had such a clear, funny, sweet idea for who Goomi was, and it was great creating another little monster in the world.”
Dort: The Overlord Dick Has Been Searching For
While some Minions are busy making movie magic, self-appointed leader Dick has other priorities. He is not thrilled by James and Henry’s filmmaking mission. His focus is much more traditional for a Minion: find an evil overlord and follow them proudly.
That search leads him to Dort, a robot-alien overlord voiced by Jesse Eisenberg.

Dort may appear controlled, formal, and mechanical, but Eisenberg wanted to make sure the character did not feel completely emotionless. His goal was to create a voice that sounded artificial while still allowing small hints of vulnerability to slip through.
“The dialogue was already written with this slightly robotic formality,” Eisenberg says. “So, the question became how much humanity should leak through. I liked the idea that he could sound very controlled and artificial, and then suddenly there is a small hesitation in his voice that makes him feel less certain than he wants everyone to believe.”
The result is a character who feels both intimidating and oddly uncertain, making Dort a fun new addition to the Minions’ long history of unusual bosses.
Phillips: A Monster with Unexpected Charm
As the adventure continues, the Minions and Goomi encounter Phillips, one of the monsters who looks much closer to the frightening creature James and Henry originally wanted for their film.
Voiced by Bobby Moynihan, Phillips has the appearance of something that should send everyone running. Yet beneath his terrifying exterior is a strangely cheerful personality that gives the character an unexpected twist.

“I loved that Phillips looks like he should be pure nightmare fuel, but there is something oddly jolly about him,” Moynihan says. “He has his own unique energy, and I got to improvise a bit, which is always a gift in animation. Sometimes the things you try on the spot end up unlocking the character.”
With that mix of spooky looks and playful energy, Phillips adds a surprising dose of humor to the monster madness.
Howard: Ancient, Strange, and Full of Mystery
Found alongside Phillips is Howard, a creature with a look that combines elements of a starfish and an octopus. He is not introduced lightly. Frozen by humanity and marked with warnings not to release him, Howard immediately brings a sense of danger to the story.
“Humanity stopped them at some point and made it very clear that they should never be released,” director Pierre Coffin says. “That gives Phillips and Howard a sense of danger before we really know what they can do.”

Howard is voiced by Phil LaMarr, who had the task of bringing life to a character with very little dialogue. Since Howard does not speak often, every sound needed to feel powerful and meaningful.
“Howard does not say much, so every sound had to carry a lot of weight,” LaMarr says. “I wanted the voice to feel like it came from somewhere deep and strange, as if this creature had been around much longer than anyone really understood.”
That deep, mysterious quality makes Howard one of the film’s most intriguing new monsters.
