“Until Dawn” Film Adaptation Brings Nightmarish Creativity to Life Through a Deadly Time Loop

Horror takes on terrifying new twists in Until Dawn, the film adaptation of the hit PlayStation game. Director David F. Sandberg and writer Gary Dauberman unleash chilling thrills in a deadly, ever-changing time loop. In Philippine cinemas this April 25!

Fans of horror, brace yourselves!

From the twisted minds of David F. Sandberg (Lights OutAnnabelle: Creation) and Gary Dauberman (ItAnnabelleThe Nun) comes a terrifying new take on horror storytelling: Until Dawn. Based on the beloved PlayStation video game, this upcoming film takes a familiar yet fearsome concept—a group of teens trapped in a slasher scenario—and cranks it up to spine-chilling extremes through a deadly time loop.

“Every Night, a New Nightmare”

As an ode to the original game and the horror genre as a whole, Sandberg and Dauberman embraced the movie’s looping narrative as a chance to flex their creative muscles.

“Every night, the story resets, taking us into a new horror genre,” Sandberg elaborates. “As a lifelong horror fan, it was a dream come true to work in all these subgenres. Every night the characters undergo what feels like a new chapter in a different story.”

The film stars Ella Rubin as Clover, who, along with her friends, returns to a remote mountain site in search of her missing sister Melanie, played by Maia Mitchell. Their search spirals into blood-curdling chaos as they’re murdered one by one inside an eerie, abandoned visitor center—only to wake up and do it all over again.

“Let’s Just Kill Him.”

The freedom of the time loop gave the creators an opportunity to experiment. For Dauberman, the real thrill was in the chaos.

Until Dawn let us have the fun of killing off our characters in wild, unpredictable ways,” he laughs. “It was both a challenge and tremendous fun because we had the freedom to say, ‘Yeah, f*** it, let’s just kill him.’”

That playful horror energy carries over into every frame, making each death unique—and each rebirth a countdown to terror.

Familiar, Yet Totally Unpredictable

Genre fans and gamers alike will love the film’s love-letter approach. With easter eggs scattered throughout, there’s plenty for loyal Until Dawn players to spot, while new viewers will still be gripped by the suspense and action.

Asad Qizilbash, producer and Head of PlayStation Productions, couldn’t be happier.

“PlayStation Productions serves as a vessel for top creators to translate their passion for gaming into compelling narratives across various media. Being fans of the game themselves, David, Gary and their cast and crew have worked closely with our team at PlayStation Productions to make sure the film captured what fans love most about the Until Dawn world. And while you don’t need to have played the game to enjoy the movie’s twists and turns, there’s a good chance that fans will spot some cool references to the original story,” Qizibash says.

The Ultimate Horror Mashup

Caught in an endless cycle of terror, the only way out is to survive until dawn. But with each reset, the killer changes—and the clock is ticking.

The cast includes rising stars Michael CiminoOdessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli and legendary actor Peter Stormare, in a twisted tale where each death counts—literally.
