“We’re Transformers! We are Transformers!” an enthusiastic B-127 shouts in Transformers One, the first fully CG-animated Transformers movie. Voiced by comedian Keegan-Michael Key, B-127 (aka Bumblebee) comes alive like never before, and Key is thrilled to be part of the magic.

Giving Bumblebee a Voice

Bumblebee has long been a fan favorite, yet his character had never truly spoken. For Key, this was an incredible opportunity. “I really enjoyed being able to give Bumblebee a voice. Over the last few movies he speaks through the radio inside the Volkswagen, which I thought was so cool,” says Key. “But now we get to imbue him with personality through his voice and I was really honored that I got the opportunity to do that.”

No Humans, Just Transformers

Brian Tyree Henry, who voices D-16/Megatron, brings a fresh take on one of cinema’s most iconic villains. “What I really like about this one is that it is truly the beginning. And we got all the humans out of the way,” he says. “We start on Cybertron, which is where they originate, which is their home. Get the humans out of there, humans complicate stuff. We want to see where they started. We want to see what Cybertron looked like. This is the way to do it.” For Henry, the absence of human characters brings the focus back to what makes the Transformers universe so compelling—the rich, emotional arcs of its robotic heroes and villains.

A Fresh Spin on the Franchise

For Scarlett Johansson, who voices Elita-1, being a part of Transformers One was an absolute joy. “I loved the script. It, like, ignites the kid in me, and so I think parents would appreciate that,” says Johansson. “But it’s also just really fun. A new generation is going to get to experience Transformers in a whole new way. It’s going to be awesome.”

The Epic Origin Story

Transformers One tells the untold origin story of the two characters who would become sworn enemies: Optimus Prime and Megatron. At one time, they were close allies, bonded like brothers, but events would unfold that would forever alter their destinies—and the fate of Cybertron. Voicing the young Optimus Prime, known as Orion Pax, is none other than Chris Hemsworth. The star-studded cast also includes Steve Buscemi as Starscream, Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, and Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime.

This exciting chapter in the Transformers universe will showcase the deep bond between Optimus Prime and Megatron before their rivalry shattered the future of Cybertron.
