On filming the sequel without Chadwick Boseman
After the passing of Black Panther‘s lead star, Chadwick Boseman, in 2020, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that they will not use CGI or recast T’Challa back into the MCU. Feige then recently shared with Empire that the recasting “felt like it was much too soon,” adding that “The world is still processing the loss of Chad. And Ryan [Coogler] poured that into the story.”
Meanwhile, Letitia Wright also talked about filming without her onscreen brother. “I will always have moments [of doubt] on set, and I’ll be like, ‘Oh man, I don’t know if I can do this’,” Wright told People. “I could just hear [Boseman] be like, ‘Sister, you’re great. You got this. I’m proud of you.’ That really just kept me moving forward.”

A new Black Panther
The trailer has also revealed that a new heroine takes up the mantle of the Black Panther. While the identity of the new Black Panther has not been explicitly revealed, fans speculate it to be Letitia Wright’s Shuri, the younger sister of T’Challa and the Princess of Wakanda. Aside from being next in line in the royal family, Shuri’s Black Panther is also canon in the comics, as she took up the mantle when her brother was in a coma. The official poster for the film also puts Shuri front and center, possibly hinting at the new hero’s identity.
The MCU’s take on Namor and Atlantis
After Killmonger’s rebellion and their battle with Thanos’ army, the next threat looming over Wakanda is a war against Namor. In the comics, Namor is actually a hero and the king of Atlantis but in the MCU, the character played by Tenoch Huerta debuts as an antagonist and his kingdom will instead be called the Talocan– a nation that is inspired by Aztec mythology. Despite these changes, those familiar with the comic book character will still see one of his most curious abilities in the comics brought to life on the big screen, which is flying with little wings on his feet.
Introducing Ironheart
The MCU continues to set up young heroes including Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, and America Chavez. Another young superhero is also introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever— Riri Williams also known as Ironheart, who will soon have her own MCU series. In the comics, Ironheart was an engineering student who recreates the Iron Man suit and receives guidance from an AI Tony Stark. As for the MCU, it appears that Ironheart may not be as tied to Stark, but Shuri and Wakanda will play a role in the new hero’s origins.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack
The first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever emphasized the effect of music in a film, with Tem’s rendition of No Woman No Cry making the trailer even more emotional. For the film’s full soundtrack, Rihanna returns with ‘Lift Me Up’, a tribute to Chadwick Boseman. The soundtrack also includes music from Future, Burna Boy, Stormzy, Fireboy DML, Ckay, E-40, PinkPantheress, Rema, Snow Tha Product, Tobe Nwigwe, and more.
