CCP upholds diversity and gender equality with a façade lighting this Pride Month

The Cultural Center of the Philippines celebrates Pride Month with a powerful façade lighting display that honors LGBTQIA+ identity, diversity, and the ongoing fight for equality.

This June, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) lights up not just its iconic façade—but also the hearts of many—as it joins the global celebration of Pride Month with a breathtaking display of color, light, and meaning.

Starting June 25, the CCP Main Building transforms into a luminous canvas awash in the vibrant hues of the rainbow flag—an enduring symbol of pride, unity, and love. But it’s more than just a splash of color. This year’s lighting spectacle features a striking interplay of rainbow illumination and GOBO projections, creating patterns inspired by human fingerprints—each one unique, just like every person in the LGBTQIA+ community.

The powerful concept, developed by the CCP Production Design and Technical Services Division, draws a bold parallel between individuality and identity. “No two fingerprints are the same—and neither are our stories,” the team shares, emphasizing the personal yet universal journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and visibility that many in the LGBTQIA+ community face.

More than just a dazzling light show, the installation stands as a visual manifesto of the CCP’s unwavering commitment to artistic freedom, inclusivity, and representation. Through the years, the CCP has been a strong advocate for gender equality and safe spaces, using art as a catalyst for conversation, compassion, and change.

“This fingerprint motif is a symbol of authenticity and strength,” says CCP Artistic Director Dennis N. Marasigan, who also chairs the CCP Gender and Development Committee. “It reminds us that in our diversity lies our power, and that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and respected.”

The installation is made possible through the dedicated efforts of CCP’s technical team, led by concept designer Jericho A. Pagana, and brought to life by the skilled Gobo Team: Shantie De Roca, Mary Grace Budol, Lucio Tapiru, John Mar Dumayas, and Alex Pineda.

Step into this radiant tribute to individuality and pride. The façade lighting runs from 6 PM to 10 PM, June 25 to 30—a weeklong celebration of resilience, equality, and the beautiful spectrum of humanity.
