There is something about a town, a city, or a particular piece of land that can make those who are receptive to inspiration live and breathe art.
Such is the role of the Province of Rizal as the cradle of Philippine art, a haven for artists—with culture-driven areas such as Antipolo, Tanay, and Angono (which is touted as the country’s art capital), as well as its lakeshore towns by the lip of Laguna Lake and luscious mountain ranges that are simply waiting to be captured on canvas.
Thus it is fitting that Robinsons Land ARTablado, which was established in Robinsons Galleria’s branch in 2020, puts up a base near the artistic source: Robinsons Place Antipolo. This makes the mall an ideal venue for Rizal-based artists, especially the young, up and coming ones who need a stage, a platform, a venue to share each of their talent, vision and fresh take on artistic expression. This is an extension of Robinsons Land’s mission of bringing art closer to Filipinos.
For its inaugural show, Robinsons Land ARTablado in Robinsons Place Antipolo presents “Sangkutsa: Ikalawang Yugto,” on view until June 15.
After their successful run in ARTablado Robinsons Galleria with the “Sangkutsa” group exhibition from April 1 to 13, the members of Sining Rizal focus on the lifestyle and the cultural drive of people from the province of Rizal. The participating artists are: Bong Anore, Rey Punelas, Oiet Aramil, Jovito Andres, Berny Supsupin, Totong Francisco, Charlie Val, Jan Michael Ong, Ambhet Lugtu, Reggie Lim, Onak Limayo, Gerry Marasigan, Ding Jovellano, Jonalyn Montero, Jun Tiongco, Roger Fulgado, Bello Pasa Jr., Roland delos Santos and Omer delos Santos.
What can art collectors expect from the “Sangkutsa” sequel? Well, the same commitment to craft, handling of material and, most importantly, to the creative and artistic legacy of Rizal Province itself. And something even more delectable.
Sining Rizal member Bong Anore says group exhibitions can sometimes be “a mashup of ideas from different sources and various influences.” But “Sangkutsa” is all about different, distinctive artistic ingredients coming together and creating an entirely new visual menu, something to be sampled in preparation for experiencing the much tastier oeuvre of each artist. What Anore calls, “a deep peek into each one’s innate aesthetics and ingenuity”—grounded by the place where the artist originated, but which also allows the artist to soar.
“Sangkutsa Ikalawang Yugto” is part of ARTablado’s “Rizal Series,” which runs until November. Other group exhibitions include: Bigkis Singing Binangonan from June 16 to 30; Grupo Sining Angono from July 1 to 15; Taytay Artists from July 16 to 30; Tanay Artists from Aug. 1 to 15; Brando Limon Bati and Adler Llagas (two-man show) from Aug. 16 to 31; Angono Ateliers Association from Sept. 1 to 15.
Robinsons Land ARTablado is at the Upper Ground Floor, North Wing, Robinsons Place Antipolo.
ARTablado, a portmanteau of “art” and “entablado” is Robinsons Land’s very own stage in showcasing Filipino ingenuity and creativity. This platform allows emerging artists to freely express themselves through art and paves the way to greater recognition of their talent and hard work.

Since opening its first store in the Philippines in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) back in 2010, MUJI hopes to once again delight the BGC community with its latest store environment via a 1,400 sqm space in Central Square located at the corner of 5th Avenue and 30th Street – a store that will be over three times the size of its previous store in Bonifacio High Street.
With a much bigger space, MUJI aims to enrich the daily lives of its customers, especially those in the BGC community, by offering products and services that are essential to achieving a simple and pleasant life. With the opening of its second-largest store in BGC which features more expansive spaces and new store contents, MUJI Philippines aims to contribute more to the people, society, and environment within the community especially.
The MUJI Central Square store will again introduce select everyday products at better prices with its Price Review Campaign. This expanded store in BGC will also have new and exciting features starting with MUJI Philippines’ first-ever MUJI Coffee – a place where customers can relax and enjoy their favorite coffee or tea drink. It will also have the biggest display of MUJI Walker activewear, Children’s Wear, and Innerwear, as well as the MUJI Water Refilling Station where anyone who visits the store can get free water using their reusable bottle.
In addition, MUJI Central Square will also carry specialty products and services such as the MUJI Labo unisex clothing line, Open MUJI, and free consultation services with our Interior, Styling, and Experience Advisors.
MUJI Coffee
For the opening of its newest store, MUJI will introduce the first ever MUJI Coffee in the Philippines – a small space where customers can relax, work, or spend time with friends and family. MUJI Coffee will feature a cozy environment where customers can enjoy their favorite coffee or tea drink with some light snacks that are inspired by Japanese treats. It will also feature a clean and calm environment, equipped with MUJI furniture, which customers can experience while they take a break inside the store. To further improve its relationship with nature, all coffee and select tea beverages served in MUJI Coffee will make use of coffee beans and tea leaves that are certified by the Rainforest Alliance, an international non-government organization that fights against deforestation and climate change. And like all of its merchandise, MUJI will offer MUJI Coffee products in sustainable or recyclable packaging to help conserve the environment.
The MUJI Water Refilling Station
With Bonifacio Global City known as a “walkable city”, MUJI understands that making free drinking water available to customers and guests is an essential service to offer such an active community. With the Water Refilling Station, MUJI aims to work together with its customers to reduce plastic waste and to conserve our natural resources.
Customers are encouraged to bring their own reusable bottle or MUJI My Water Bottle to the store instead of buying water in single-use plastic bottles. With this initiative, MUJI hopes to encourage more people to consider the environmental implications of single-use plastic. MUJI believes that this simple act, when done together, can help reduce the amount of plastic waste. To complement this service, MUJI Central Square will also carry our Reusable Water Bottles available for purchase.
MUJI Walker
The MUJI Central Square store will also house the brand’s largest display of MUJI Walker items (activewear line). MUJI believes that it is essential for everyone to maintain an active lifestyle to achieve a balance of mind and body. With its line of activewear, MUJI aims to promote the importance of staying active in order to live a full and healthy life. Whether it be through indoor exercises or light walks around the neighborhood, these activities can help stretch one’s muscles which can relieve stress and fatigue, a common problem that people in the city experience as they spend most of their time working. The MUJI Walker series is made soft, smooth and stretchy fabric and is equipped with sweat absorbent and quick-drying features which are ideal for at-home exercises, outdoor activities, or even traveling.
MUJI Innerwear
The MUJI Central Square store will also offer a wide selection of Men’s, Ladies’ and Children’s innerwear which are made with 100% organic cotton. MUJI’s innerwear line is cool and comfortable on the skin, even in the summer, due to its excellent breathability.

MUJI Labo
MUJI’s newest store will also offer MUJI Labo, the brand’s line of unisex clothing. MUJI LABO is a laboratory for the concept of distance from excessive fashion. MUJI wanted to create a clothing line that gives a feeling that it can be worn by anyone, regardless of gender, age, or body type with its simple and streamlined design featuring colors and shapes for easy coordination. With LABO, both men and women can create a wardrobe that only has what is essential and can easily be shared between couples and other members of the family.
Price Review
Aside from its new offerings, MUJI will open its Central Square store with a selection of everyday products on Price Review. As MUJI continues its initiative of making products that are more affordable for customers, the brand revisits prices of its best-selling items, especially everyday essentials. By further promoting reasonable prices for its products, MUJI aims to better serve the daily lives of its customers.
Since its inception, MUJI has been offering reasonably priced high-quality products that focus on using natural materials from sustainable sources. By visiting the production sites and factories of raw materials and sharing knowledge with production partners, MUJI is able to reduce its operational costs and offer products at better prices. For this price review, MUJI focused on basic everyday items that promote a simple and pleasant lifestyle, which customers can look at and say “This is enough”. Today, it has become harder to create a balance between work, study, and relaxation, as people tend to stay home daily. With that, MUJI aims to help customers experience pleasant daily living by providing good quality everyday products which can be used for day-to-day activities such as working from home, running errands, or even relaxing.
MUJI Advisors
MUJI Central Square will also offer free consultation services for its customers via its Interior, Styling, and Experience Advisors.
The Interior Advisor service helps customers visualize a space-efficient home with the brand’s simple aesthetic. The Interior Advisor can also help give recommendations on what MUJI furniture best fits a customer’s home, as well or other household solutions.
The Styling Advisor service can help customers refresh their wardrobe by giving guidance on which MUJI clothing fits their lifestyle and personal taste. The Styling Advisor is equipped to address styling concerns such as questions on fit, color, and sizing options.
Lastly, the MUJI Experience Advisor service helps customers better understand the different products which MUJI offers under the Stationery and Health & Beauty departments. The Experience Advisor is equipped to suggest items such as skincare and stationery products that are used daily, and which are complementary to a customer’s lifestyle.
Open MUJI
MUJI Central Square will also have an Open MUJI space, which will provide a venue to showcase MUJI concepts and hold various activities. The Open MUJI Area is a platform where the brand can communicate and convey its message with customers. It is also a place where MUJI Advisors can conduct workshops that help support the community. During opening, the Open MUJI space will be used as an extended seating area for MUJI Coffee customers who wish to experience MUJI Coffee offerings while in a cozy MUJI environment.
Eco Card
As part of MUJI’s efforts to create a better relationship with nature with the help of its customers, MUJI is offering a free MUJI Eco Card to all MUJI Members. To complete the MUJI Eco Card, Members need to accumulate 9 stamps which can be done by using their own reusable bags in lieu of MUJI packaging when shopping in any MUJI Philippines store, or by using the MUJI Water Refilling Station with their own reusable water bottle. Internationally-renowned singer and songwriter LOUIS TOMLINSON is returning to Manila, as announced by concert promoter, Live Nation Philippines.
The Louis Tomlinson World Tour in Manila is happening on July 16, 2022, Saturday at the New Frontier Theater. Tickets will be on sale on June 5 Sunday via www.ticketnet.com. Tagged as Louis’ first concert tour, the show is also in support of his debut album “Walls,” released in 2020 that spawned five singles: “Two of Us”, “Kill My Mind”, “We Made It”,”Don’t Let It Break Your Heart” and “Walls”.
In previous reports, Louis said he felt ready to record a solo album and was too excited to be back on stage. His run of hits in 2017, including hugely successful collaborations with Bebe Rexha and Steve Aoki, was a mere dipping of toes in the water. Temperature tested, he made some decisions – Louis wanted to be an artist who had his sound make music that meant something to him and, in turn, to those all-important fans.
“There was definitely a process of understanding where I sit musically,” says Louis. “I have my own tastes, and, to a certain extent, they are fighting against the musical tide. “When I grew up, pop meant Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, The Killers, and Amy Winehouse. Times change, obviously. Currently, pop is very urban and street, which is not what I relate to. Sure, I could make those sorts of songs, but they wouldn’t feel like me. The puzzle was how to please both myself and the fans.”
In 2019, Louis won the Best Song Award at the Teen Choice Awards for his single ‘Two Of Us,’ which has hit 40 million streams on Spotify, with YouTube views at 23 million. In 2018 Louis won an iHeart Award for ‘Best Solo Breakout’ and an EMA Award for ‘Best UK & Ireland Act’ in 2017. He was ranked No.5 on Billboard’s emerging artists of 2018 and had over 60 million combined followers on social media.
As a member of One Direction, Louis has sold over 100 million records. Overall, Louis’s solo music has garnered over a BILLION streams. Louis also premiered the first episode of his new YouTube video series. Watch it here.
“I feel like a new artist now. It’s taken a while for me to be comfortable on my own, to learn to trust my gut, and make sure I get what I want. I feel the most confident I’ve ever been, both as a songwriter and a singer, and the most mature. Of course, I want to be successful, but what matters is what my music means to me and what it means to the fans. That’s the priority. The rest we’ll have to wait and see.”
The Louis Tomlinson World Tour in Manila is happening on July 16, 2022, Saturday at the New Frontier Theater. Register as a Live Nation Philippines member at LiveNation.ph/register to get exclusive access to concert news and updates.
Live Nation Members Pre-sale is on Saturday, 4th June, from 10:00 am-11:59 pm. Public On-sale happens on Sunday, 5th June, at 10:00 am through www.ticketnet.com.ph and its outlets.
Education is a right, not a privilege. Miss World Philippines – Negros Occidental Gwendolyne Bolivar Fourniol says more Filipino children should be given opportunities to finish their studies, as this can uplift the lives not only of their families but also their communities.
Gwen (as she is fondly called) is an example of the power of education to change lives, as her mother was a former beneficiary of the ERDA (Educational Research and Development Assistance) Foundation, which sends underprivileged children to school. She shares, “my mother, Sim, grew up in poverty in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental. There were seven children in the family and only one sibling was given the opportunity to study. Losing hope for her future, she found her way to Manila to stay with a cousin and it was there that she met Fr. Pierre T. Tritz, SJ, who founded ERDA in 1974 to give underprivileged but deserving children the opportunity to study.”
With Fr. Pierre’s support, Sim Bolivar obtained a degree in Psychology from the Philippine Women’s University, and was able to work as an au pair (foreign household helper) for a family in Luxembourg where she met Thierry Fourniol at a park. “If it were not for ERDA, I wouldn’t exist, and my mother would still be living in poverty in Negros,” Gwen adds. Her mother is currently working as a nurse in London, while her father is working as a senior analyst in Belgium.
Before joining her first Miss World Philippines pageant last year, Gwen was pursuing an Economics degree at Oxford Brooks in London in the UK. She hopes to join an internship program with JP Morgan after graduation, and is also looking towards launching a French tutorial service in the Philippines.
She is using her platform to support ERDA, which has already helped some 800,000 Filipino children receive an education, and is calling for equality in education rights. “There is a misconception that women should be the ones to stay home and keep house and raise the children, and are therefore given less opportunities to study. My mother, because of the opportunity that was opened to her by the ERDA Foundation, was able to send her 6 siblings to school. This says so much about the power of women to uplift their families out of poverty. We should push equal rights for education regardless of gender.” She says that Miss World, with its platform of ‘Beauty With a Purpose’, resonates with her advocacies.
Gwen placed in the top 15th of last year’s Miss World Philippines competition and she talks about her pageant journey so far. “I grew up in France and pageants are not as big there as they are in the Philippines. I did not have that dream of becoming a beauty queen growing up; it was my mother who encouraged me to go for a screening. The first time around, I was very alone because I was very new.”
She recalls that in her first stint, they called her a baby of pageantry. “I didn’t know how to style myself and I didn’t know how to do makeup. Now, with the support of ProMedia, I feel more confident. I am stronger physically and because of this I am also stronger mentally, because when you exercise and treat your body right, it also goes a long way towards your mental health.”
Gwendolyne Fourniol with ProMedia’s CEO Paul Izon Reyes and Director for Operations Jam Aquino
ProMedia is a project management group that is passionate about wholistic beauty (body, beauty, and brains). At its helm is CEO Paul Reyes, ably assisted by Jam Aquino, director for operations. Aquino is also the CEO of The Belle Salon. “We, at ProMedia, stage beauty pageants and body-building competitions. We also train beauty pageant athletes, so called because they are required to train like athletes,” explains Paul. “We see the true beauty in Gwen. She has a striking face, inner strength, wit and confidence. Furthermore, she is passionate about her advocacy,” shares Paul. “Essentially, she represents beauty with purpose.”
Gwen hopes that with the Miss World crown, this #ExceptionallyEmpoweredFilipina can empower people through education which is the greatest equalizer. “I want to reach out to humanity and continue the legacy of Fr. Tritz. If one person can transform 800,000 lives in this country, imagine what so many people can do to help millions more in the Philippines and around the world.”
Watch the Miss World Philippines 2022 Beauty Pageant Finals on June 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Gwendolyne Fourniol is candidate No. 25.
The stars (led by Austin Butler and Tom Hanks) and filmmakers (led by director Baz Luhrmann) of Warner Bros.’ Elvis were out in full force at the movie’s gala premiere in Cannes Film Festival, where the film received a 12-minute standing ovation — the longest at this year’s event.

ELVIS is an epic, big-screen spectacle from Warner Bros. Pictures and visionary, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Baz Luhrmann that explores the life and music of Elvis Presley, starring Austin Butler and Oscar winner Tom Hanks.
A thoroughly cinematic drama, Elvis’s (Butler) story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Starring alongside Butler and Hanks, award-winning theatre actress Helen Thomson plays Elvis’s mother, Gladys, Richard Roxburgh portrays Elvis’s father, Vernon, and DeJonge plays Priscilla. Luke Bracey plays Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett plays Dixie Locke, David Wenham plays Hank Snow, Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays B.B. Also in the cast, Dacre Montgomery plays TV director Steve Binder, alongside Australian actors Leon Ford as Tom Diskin, Kate Mulvany as Marion Keisker, Gareth Davies as Bones Howe, Charles Grounds as Billy Smith, Josh McConville as Sam Phillips, and Adam Dunn as Bill Black.

In time for the highly awaited opening of “Jurassic World Dominion” in the Philippine cinemas on June 8, Universal Pictures International, SM Malls and Pacific Licensing Studios replicate the world of dinosaurs which is currently on display at SM North Edsa – The Block Atrium, featuring life-size statues of dinosaurs Blue and Beta featured in the film.
The recent launch of the dinosaur world on display allows kids and adults alike to take photos with the dinosaur replicas, put on an archaeologist’s hat in search of dinosaur fossils, and purchase movie-inspired shirts, socks, and toys to name a few from the numerous items available. The display also includes a booth where the public can easily book and purchase tickets for the movie ahead of its opening day.
A multi-generational movie, Jurassic World Dominion brings together original and new-gen cast members (Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, BD Wong, Isabella Sermon, and Omar Sy) for an unforgettable experience of the epic conclusion meant to be seen and made only for cinemas.
Filmed during the pandemic, director Colin Trevorrow’s ambition was to take the story to places never-before-seen in a Jurassic film. Each setting—the Pacific Northwest, West Texas, Utah, San Francisco, Malta and the Dolomite Mountains—has its own style and look. Taking advantage of the natural environment, the film was also shot in the Pacific Northwest during winter so they did not have to fake the cold and snow.
Following the debut of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993, paleontology would never again be the same. “Jurassic Park was the most important thing that’s happened to paleontology in the last several decades, because that film brought dinosaurs back to life for a new generation, and it showed dinosaurs in a way they had never been shown before,” says Stepen Brusatte, Professor of Palaeontology and Evolution at University of Edinburgh, who served as the film’s paleontology consultant.
“It led to a public reawakening of dinosaurs, and that led to so many more young people going into paleontology. It led to more money going into the field, it led to more universities putting on dinosaur courses, it caused museums to put on dinosaur exhibits, and we’re still reaping the benefits of that. We are in the golden age of paleontology where somebody somewhere around the world is finding a new species of dinosaur once a week on average, and that’s been going on for over a decade now because this is the Jurassic Park generation of paleontologists.”
Jurassic World Dominion opens in Philippine cinemas nationwide on June 8 – also available on select 3D and 2D IMAX screens.
Miles Teller and Glen Powell break from the pack as navy fighter pilots Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw and Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin in Paramount Pictures’ Top Gun: Maverick, now playing cinemas across the Philippines.
Miles Teller
In the 1986 Top Gun, a training accident killed Goose (Anthony Edwards), one of the most adored characters in movie history, the father of the young boy we will now meet as a man. “And I’ve got to say,” says lead star Tom Cruise of Teller’s performance as Rooster, “that guy showed up.”
There aren’t many men who could step into Goose’s shoes. Then again, Miles Teller isn’t just anyone. “I feel fortunate to carry on the Bradshaw name,” the acclaimed young star says of his beloved on-screen old man.
Going toe to toe with Cruise is a tantalizing prospect for Teller. Two actors at the peak of their powers with three decades of water under the bridge and old scores to settle. “My character, Bradley [aka Rooster], when the first movie came out, he was just a little kid,” says Teller. “And now, of course, you’re seeing him over 30 years later, so there were a lot of blanks to fill in.” And even though that meant some incredibly heavy emotional lifting at incredibly high speeds and heights, for Teller, he wouldn’t have had his time on Top Gun: Maverick any other way. “They knew how much pressure there was on what we were trying to accomplish,” he says of shooting sequences the likes of which audiences have never seen. “But we all knew that we were trying to make something really special, and that doesn’t come easy.”
Glen Powell
From topless montages to landing his own pilot’s license, no-one has embraced the joys of Top Gun more than Glen Powell. “This,” he says, “was sort of written in the stars.”
Powell was born in 1988, two years after the original Top Gun was released. But the adventures of Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell have always captivated him, to the point that he has modelled his own entire professional arc after that of its leading man. “I’ve studied Tom’s early work to navigate my own career,” Powell says. “And now that we’re friends, I don’t have to make assumptions on WWTCD (What Would Tom Cruise Do.) As a young actor in a business where everyone says the movie star is dead… I’ve been fortunate enough to work alongside a guy who has been able to prove that theory wrong for three or four decades running.”
Famously pipped at the post to the role of Rooster in the movie, after Miles Teller landed the role of Goose’s son, Cruise was determined to keep Powell in the picture, working with him to create the brand-new role of Hangman. “[Tom would] say, ‘I’ve had this idea… Watch this movie and we’ll talk about it tomorrow.’ So, I started watching movies the way Tom watches movies,” says Powell. “It wasn’t just getting to work with my hero but getting to truly collaborate with my hero.” If that wasn’t enough, the star of everything from Everybody Wants Some!! to Scream Queens also came away from this movie with a bonus: his own private pilot’s license.
“At any given moment, the full wrath of aeronautical physics is trying to pull the blood from your head and black you out,” Powell says of shooting Top Gun: Maverick’s aerial scenes. “I will never take acting on the surface of the Earth for granted again.”
