    Moonlighter (May 24)

Step into the shoes of Will, a courageous shopkeeper who secretly dreams of becoming a hero in this action role-playing game. During the day, you’re your own boss. Put items on sale, set their prices carefully, manage gold reserves, recruit assistants and work toward shop upgrades. Get to know fellow villagers as you help establish new businesses, craft new armor and weapons, and use existing equipment to level up your abilities. But beware — some shady individuals may want to steal your precious offerings.

Fun fact: Will, the protagonist, has white hair inspired by one of the main characters from the game, Bastion by Supergiant Games called The Kid. Many people think Will is an old man because of that, but he’s actually in his twenties.

    Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt  (May 24)

Who knew running a kingdom was so tough? This mobile version of the acclaimed strategy game, and our first game from Germany, lets you reign supreme. Start with a small village and build your way up to a massive medieval metropolis. A crisp and colorful land awaits you and your settlers, who need food, protection, and fun! Send forth your builders to construct a city of your own design. Manage workers to cut wood and to mine valuable ore. But keep an eye on the weather, disease and disasters. And don’t forget to keep those tax coins rolling in. Seasons will impact the demand for certain goods like extra water for summer and more clothes in winter. You’re in charge, you make the calls!

Fun fact: Townies (your loyal subjects) don’t enter buildings; they become invisible in front of each door.

Exploding Kittens – The Game (May 31)

Bring the catnip and play with up to five of your friends in this single or multiplayer game from the hit tabletop game creator Exploding Kittens. Draw as many cards as you can, and do your best to dodge — or defuse — fatal felines. Or else, boom goes the dynamite! In this kitty-powered game of chance, players draw cards — until someone draws an exploding kitten and blows up. But that’s not all, Netflix members will be able to play with two new exclusive cards, Radar and Flip Flop, enabling players to manipulate the deck in new ways. Radar reveals to players the position of the Exploding Kitten closest to the top of the card deck and Flip Flop reverses the order of the cards in the deck. Featuring original art by The Oatmeal.

Fun Fact: Future versions of Exploding Kittens – The Game will have an exclusive expansion pack of cards that will be themed around the Netflix series coming in 2023 so you can play with your favorite characters and bring the show to life.

  • Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

AFTER two years of online performances and the streaming of archived works, the Virgin Labfest (VLF), the festival of untried, untested and unstaged plays, returns to live stage with 12 new works slated on June 16 to 26, at Tanghalang Huseng Batute (CCP Studio Theater).

For its 17th edition, VLF follows the theme “Hinga” to “underline the need to breathe, to be present and feel alive.”

“After being isolated in our houses, we now focus on the importance of community — the need to share space and time and revel in one another’s presence — and the urgency of theatre and performance,” said VLF festival director Tess Jamias who is sharing the role with TP associate director Marco Viaña.

Aside from marking its return to THB, its original home, VLF 17: HINGA reintroduces the practice of grouping plays into sets under shared themes and other commonalities.

Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

Set A: Life is Full of Surprises revolves around life’s unexpected turns. This set features: Eljay Castro Deldoc’s Walang Bago sa Dulang Ito; Ma. Cecilia de la Rosa’s Mga Balo; and Bibeth Orteza’s Bituing Marikit.

Directed by J. William Herbert Sigmund Go and Tess Jamias, Walang Bago sa Dulang Ito follows the pursuit of a woman in understanding myriapods and how this would lead to bewildering encounters and finding herself preyed on by those in positions of power.

Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

In Mga Balo, a writer tries to decide on the future of the play she is writing. She returns to her material and seeks the help of the widows who rightfully own the story. The play is directed by Adrienne Vergara.

Under the direction of Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Bituing Marikit tells the death of a man’s second wife and how much of a “bituing marikit” his wife is to their boys. The play was in memory of film and theater director Mel Chionglo.

Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

Three plays show that fiction is stranger than life in Set B: Life is Strange Fiction. The plays are:  BJ Crisostomo’s Absurdo: Event Day; Jerry O’Hara’s Liberation; and Juan Ekis’ ‘Nay May Dala Akong Pancit.

Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

In Absurdo: Event Day, in between working as project coordinators at a massive end of the world party and dealing with absurd client demands, two co-workers must come to grips if their jobs have any ultimate meaning before time runs outs. Directed by Mara Agleham, Absurdo: Event day is part of a trilogy dealing with the craziness of the Philippine event industry.

Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

Directed by Dennis Marasigan, Liberation is the story of three Japanese soldiers left behind to engage the enemy at whatever cost in a desperate effort and put up pocket resistance in southern districts of Manila in 1945. How would they act in the face of death?

In ‘Nay May Dala Akong Pancit, two siblings are stuck in a metaphysical loop of a Pinoy soap opera trope. Every time the older brother comes home with pancit, their mother dies. The siblings must now find a way to escape the loop and save their mother once and for all. Karl Alexis Jingco directs the play.

Stories of characters who are at a crossroad find their way to Set C: Life Choices, which include Mikaela Regis’ Unica Hijas; Andrew Bonifacio Clete’s Punks Not Dead; and Anthony Kim Vergara’s Student’s Handbook.

Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

In Unica Hijas, two girls are called into the principal’s office after they were caught by a nun in an almost-kiss. With less than an hour left until their future is decided, the two are forced to confront each other, their past, present, and their own selves.  It will be directed by Pat Valera.

Directed by Roobak Valle, Punks Not Dead is about a mother who complains to her son’s teacher regarding a discriminating item.  As the characters argue about the item, the play shows what’s permanently inked with prejudice.

Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

Student’s Handbook, directed by Erika Estacio, shows what happened when a few pioneer students were caught violating some of the institution’s most outrageous regulations. The rules were put into question and things started getting ridiculously clairvoyant.

Plays set in schools and involve life lessons that must be learnt and unlearnt are grouped together in Set D: School of Life. They are: Dustin Celestino’s Fermata; Ryan Machado’s Huling Haraya Nina Ischia at Emeteria; and George Vail Kabristante’s Bienvenuta Al Lido Di Venezia.

Virgin Labfest Returns to Live Stage with 12 New Works

Directed by Guelan Luarca, Fermata follows the son of a dead celebrated musician as he investigates the truth about his father.

Directed by Regina De Vera, Huling Haraya Nina Ischia at Emeteria shows the endearing moment between a mother and her daughter as they prepare for the daughter’s departure. As the conversation gets deep, the daughter realizes that this might indeed be their last evening together.

In Bienvenuta Al Lido Di Venezia, a couple who works as Filipino domestic helpers for a wealthy contessa with Alzheimer’s conspired to poison their employer. But things have gone awry. The play is co-directed by Nanding Josef and Antonette Go.

VLF 17 will have a new component, Theater Talks, a curated forum series on theater and creative processes. To be live streamed during the festival, these talks feature theater practitioners who will share their know-how on production works and take in questions from the audience to elicit a lively dialogue on contemporary theatre-making.

The festival brings back its mainstay components such as the VLF Fellowship Program, with mentor Glenn Sevilla Mas and director Dennis Marasigan, and the VLF Playwrights Fair under the direction of Rody Vera and coordination by Beverly Siy.

  • Justin Bieber Justice World Tour Manila

Justin Bieber today announced the final international dates for his record-setting Justice World Tour, including Manila on October 29, 2022 at CCP Open Grounds Manila, Philippines. Having sold in excess of 1.3 million tickets so far, the tour will travel to over 30 countries — playing more than 125 shows – from May 2022 through March 2023.

Justin Bieber Justice World Tour Manila

Promoted by AEG Presents Asia and Ovation Productions, tickets to Justin Bieber Justice World Tour Manila are priced from PHP2,692.8 and will go on sale at 10AM local time on May 30, 2022 via Ovationtickets.com and SMTickets.com.

The upcoming dates start this month in Mexico, with a stop in Italy before continuing on to Scandinavia for shows in August.  Next up is South America, South Africa, and the Middle East in September and October.  The tour will close out the year in Asia, Australia and New Zealand before moving to the UK and Europe in early 2023.  Additional dates have also been announced in Dubai, Bahrain, Sydney, New Delhi, Manila, Amsterdam, London, and Dublin.

These new shows come on the heels of his 52-date 2022 North American tour, which kicked off in San Diego on February 18. Each evening promises to be a celebration for both Justin and his fans after the pandemic sidelined his 2020 tour.  Recently, Justin teamed up with director Cole Bennett for his new single +video “Honest,” featuring Don Toliver. Punchy and uptempo, “Honest” marks Justin’s first official single since “Ghost” – the anthemic finale to the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Justice – went #1 at pop radio in January, making chart history with the most #1 hits by a male solo artist in US radio history and the only fifth artist ever to reach twenty Top 5 hits on Hot 100.

Over the past year, Justin has set new marks in his highly-decorated career: “Stay” with The Kid LAROI, Justin’s eighth career Hot 100 #1 single, made him the youngest solo artist ever to reach 100 hits on the chart. “Peaches,” his certified-triple-platinum smash, made Justin the first male solo artist to debut at #1 on both the Billboard 200 album chart and Billboard Hot 100 singles chart simultaneously.

Justin Bieber’s eighth #1 album Justice has sold over eight million copies globally, amassed over 12 billion global streams, and was nominated for eight Grammys, including Album Of The Year. With an astounding 100 billion career streams and over 75 million albums sold globally, Justin reigns as one of the biggest artists in the world. Bieber is the #1 artist on YouTube with over 68 million subscribers worldwide and is the #1 artist on Spotify global with 79 million monthly listeners.

Justin – who was named Artist Of The Year at the 2021 MTV VMAs and was nominated for thirteen Billboard Music Awards – has been wowing fans nightly on the opening leg of his Justice World Tour 2022, the biggest and most ambitious tour of his career. Throughout, Justin has remained committed to using his platform for social good, bringing his ‘Justice In Action’ initiative to fans across the country, raising awareness on important issues like criminal justice reform, climate action, voter registration and much more.

The Justice World Tour, promoted by AEG Presents, is Justin’s first global outing since 2016/2017’s ‘Purpose World Tour’.  Described by The Times of London as “mesmerising”, Bieber played to 2.7 million fans over the course of his 2016-2017 run, with the finale seen by 65,000 fans at London’s British Summer Time Hyde Park festival.

  • ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Cast Shares Their Thrilling Experience of Flying Actual Fighter Jets

Ever wondered what it’s like to fly in a fighter jet? It’s like being strapped onto a DRAGON.  Join Tom Cruise and the cast and crew of Top Gun: Maverick, as they discuss their experiences flying in actual US Navy F/A-18s in this behind-the-scenes featurette called “Power of the Naval Aircraft.”

Check out the video below and watch Top Gun: Maverick in cinemas across the Philippines May 25.

“Tom [Cruise] said that the only way he was going to do this sequel was if there was no CGI,” says co-star Miles Teller of Cruise’s one undebatable demand. Fortunately, the director of Top Gun: Maverick, Joseph Kosinski, felt exactly the same way. “That was one of the first tenets of even doing this movie,” says Kosinski. “Tom doesn’t have to do another movie for the rest of his life. [He] will only make a movie if he truly believes there’s a reason it has to be made.” That reason? To do the only thing he couldn’t last time out: shoot it for real. “It’s a love letter to aviation,” says producer Jerry Bruckheimer of shooting without CGI trickery. “We’re going to show you what it’s really like to be a Top Gun pilot. An aviation film like this has never been done.”

When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”.

  • Meet The Professor’s Crew in Netflix’s ‘Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area’

Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area features an unprecedented heist in the chaotic dystopian peninsula of North and South Korea as they go on the verge of peaceful yet sudden unification. Below, we introduce the crew and cast who will not only execute, but fuel the ultimate heist to come!

    image2

Yoo Ji-tae, from the international award-winning film Old Boy, is the Professor – the mastermind behind the heist. The Professor plays a vital role in this series from the beginning, since he is responsible for organizing details and recruiting the thieves from North and South Korea. Yoo Ji-tae said, “To me, the Professor is a genius strategist who plans the heist through his principles and visions.” Behold how the Professor will meticulously guide his crew to execute this greatest heist.

    image4 1

Park Hae-soo, from the global sensation Squid Game, will shift gears to portray Berlin, a cold yet brutal member in Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area. A North Korean who spent 25 years in a concentration camp, Berlin plays a field leader among the thieves during the heist. The rebellious Berlin, who believes total control over people can only be derived from fear and division, will heighten the tension of the plot.

    image3

Jun Jong-seo plays Tokyo. She is a North Korean who immigrated to South Korea with a “Korean Dream” when the borders opened. Unlike how she imagined, her life in the South is not so dreamy, but sheer brutal. Just as she finds no hope in life, the Professor persuades her to join his master plan. Accepting his offer, Tokyo is one of the characters who truly has faith in the Professor. Jun Jong-seo commented on Tokyo as “a character whose every decision changes the entire flow of the game.”

Many more actors will add color to the biggest heist!

Lee Won-jong plays Moscow, and Kim Ji-hun plays his troublesome son Denver. Moscow only dreams of living a normal life with his son. As a South Korean miner, Moscow will be responsible for digging the heist’s grand exit. Denver, a former backstreet gang, will show his own emotional, sexy, yet friendly characteristics. Actor Kim Ji-hun, who was recently appointed to star as the main character in Netflix film Ballerina, will play this multifaceted and lively character.

Jang Yoon-ju plays Nairobi – a South Korean swindler who is an expert at making counterfeits. As previously seen in her past performances, including the film Veteran, Jang Yoon-ju will add energy to the screen. Lee Hyun-woo brings Rio to life – a former medical school dropout who is now the genius hacker of the crew. It would be interesting to see how Lee Hyun-woo, who has shown a broad appeal from various genres in films and K-dramas, will tackle this role.

    image8
(Kim Ji-hoon as Helsinki and Lee Kyu-ho as Oslo)

Kim Ji-hoon portrays Helsinki (aka Ko Myungtae), and Lee Kyu-ho plays Oslo. As ethnic Koreans and former members of a Chinese gang, the duo will be in charge of the team’s arsenal.

Fully stored with colorful characters, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area will premiere worldwide on June 24th only on Netflix!

A new trailer and poster are now available for Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, revealing new details about the God of Thunder’s latest adventure—including a trek to Olympus where Zeus (Russell Crowe) reigns supreme.

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a search for self-discovery. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Jojo Rabbit”) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, “Thor: Love and Thunder” opens in Philippine cinemas this July.
