“What an Experience!” Jericho Rosales Joins Global Praise for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” Now Showing in Cinemas

Excitement surrounding Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is growing rapidly as early reactions from international screenings begin to surface.

Journalists, critics, and invited guests have praised the film’s breathtaking visuals, massive action sequences, powerful performances, and ambitious retelling of Homer’s legendary Greek epic.

Among the select guests who experienced the film ahead of its release was Filipino actor Jericho Rosales, who represented the Philippines at the red carpet premiere in Mumbai, India, on July 11.

Jericho Rosales Walks the Red Carpet in Mumbai

Rosales attended the premiere alongside some of the biggest names connected to the film.

During the event, he met acclaimed director Christopher Nolan and interacted with cast members Matt Damon and Tom Holland.

Sharing highlights from the special occasion, Rosales described “The Odyssey” as an immersive cinematic experience that pulls viewers into Odysseus’ long and dangerous voyage.

“You feel like you’re part of the adventure. You’re part of the journey home,” Rosales said in a video recounting the premiere.

The veteran actor also shared his excitement about seeing the film again with his friends and family, this time in IMAX.

Early Reactions Applaud the Film’s Massive Scale

The first wave of reactions has highlighted the extraordinary scale of Nolan’s latest production.

The Independent who writes, ““Nolan’s biggest film to date. This film has about triple the number of huge set pieces than any of Nolan’s previous films, and every single one of them is breathtaking in their own way. In The Odyssey, Nolan showcases visual trickery in a way you’ve never seen a few before. The only criticism I have, and it’s a good problem, is … you’re often left wanting more of each set piece, and it certainly goes your way into height of the re-watchability factor of the film. I also can’t quite remember a film having such a stacked cast, where everyone delivers. Special shouts out to Tom Holland in his best role to date with Telemachus, Himesh Patel … and Samantha Morton who damn well steals the show with the few scenes she’s in.”

The publication also praised the movie’s visual effects, impressive ensemble, and strong replay value. Tom Holland, who portrays Telemachus, received particular recognition, along with Himesh Patel and Samantha Morton.

Morton was singled out for making a striking impression despite appearing in only a limited number of scenes.

    TO Anne Mia

    Critics Praise the Star-Studded Cast

Variety also praises the film and the performance of the actors, writing, “I have seen Christopher Nolan’s #TheOdyssey, and it is an astonishing achievement. A triumphant, spectacular epic. The performances from Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, John Leguizamo, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o are genuinely grand. And for some, truly, the best performances of their career! … Christopher Nolan is a visionary, and #TheOdyssey is a work of art … The battle scenes, especially at Troy, are breathtaking. It’s an incredible epic.””

The outlet praised the performances of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, John Leguizamo, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o.

Several cast members were described as delivering some of the finest performances of their careers.

With its sweeping visuals and emotionally charged performances, the adaptation was praised as both a grand spectacle and an impressive work of art.

    A Powerful Big-Screen Experience

DigitalSpy takes note of the epic production scale of The Odyssey, writing, “The Odyssey is staggering. Packed with intense and spectacular set pieces, often backed by a soul-rattling score, it builds to a final act that’s as good as anything Nolan’s done. Purists might baulk at the adaptation changes, but as an experience, nobody is doing it like Nolan.”

    TO Matt Zendaya

Although fans familiar with Homer’s original poem may notice changes in the adaptation, the outlet praised Nolan’s ability to create a cinematic experience unlike anything else currently on the big screen.

That combination of scale, sound, and visual storytelling appears to be one of the film’s greatest strengths.

    The Legendary Journey of Odysseus

“The Odyssey” follows Odysseus as he attempts to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War.

His journey becomes a dangerous test of courage, endurance, and survival as he encounters numerous obstacles along the way.

Back in Ithaca, his wife, Penelope, is surrounded by aggressive suitors seeking to claim Odysseus’ kingdom and take his place.

Their son, Telemachus, remains with her as they hold on to the hope that Odysseus will eventually return.

Bringing together mythology, action, drama, and adventure, Nolan’s adaptation transforms the ancient story into a bold cinematic spectacle designed for the largest possible screen.

A Giant Monster Has Taken Over Manila as “Minions & Monsters” Arrives in Philippine Cinemas

Something Monstrous Has Landed in Metro Manila

There is something strange, silly, and impossible to miss in the Ortigas skyline.

To celebrate the Philippine cinema release of “Minions & Monsters,” the Minions have seemingly brought one of their newest friends to Metro Manila. His name is Howard, and he is not exactly the subtle type.

    MM Howard5

Now sitting high above SM Megamall, Howard can be seen by people in nearby buildings, commuters passing through EDSA, and movie fans exploring the Ortigas area. Beside him is one unlucky Minion, caught in yet another bit of Minion-style trouble.

Big, bizarre, and wonderfully fun, the installation is set to stay on top of SM Megamall for the entire month of July, giving fans plenty of time to snap a photo before catching the movie in cinemas.

    Who Is Howard?

Howard is one of the new characters introduced in “Minions & Monsters.” With a look that resembles a curious mix of starfish and octopus, this unusual creature adds a fresh dose of monster madness to Illumination’s joyful animated universe.

In the film, the Minions discover Howard frozen. However, there is one major problem: warnings from people in the past clearly say that he, along with his friend Phillips, should not be released.

    MM Howard4

Of course, when the Minions are involved, even the clearest warning signs can lead to hilarious disaster.

Howard is voiced by comedian Bobby Moynihan, known for his run on “Saturday Night Live” and voice work in “Inside Out,” “We Bare Bears,” and “The Secret Life of Pets.”

Catch the Giant Howard Display at SM Megamall

Fans can spot Howard and the Minion installation on top of SM Megamall throughout July. Visible from different points around Ortigas and from passing vehicles along EDSA, the display offers a fun photo moment for families, commuters, and fans of the Minions franchise.

    MM Howard8

Whether you are heading to the mall, passing through the city, or planning a movie day, Howard’s Manila takeover is one cheerful sight worth looking up for.

  • Eve Ridley Talks Playing Ruthye in “Supergirl,” Opens Today in Cinemas

Eve Ridley Talks Playing Ruthye in “Supergirl,” Opens Today in Cinemas

Getting cast in a superhero film is already a dream. For Eve Ridley, landing the role of Ruthye Marie Knoll in “Supergirl” was the kind of moment that felt too big to process right away.

    01

The young Filipino-British actress had gone through several auditions for the role, with long pauses in between. Naturally, the waiting came with uncertainty. Would she hear back? Was the part still possible? Then, finally, the call arrived.

“But then I did get the call with the news and it’s the best feeling ever,” shares the young Filipino-British actress. “It’s a feeling that you can’t describe, you know? You’re so happy and proud of yourself, but then it also takes a while to sink in.”

Once the news began to feel real, Ridley stepped into research mode. She read the comic, learned more about Supergirl, and studied the iconic look and personality of Kara Zor-El.

“That’s when I read the comic and I did lots of research about Supergirl and her iconic look and the difference between Kara and Supergirl. And I loved it and I’m so happy that I got to be part of this amazing film.”

Meet Ruthye, Supergirl’s Fierce New Ally

In “Supergirl,” Ridley plays Ruthye Marie Knoll of the Danastia Clan. Headstrong, focused, and scrappy, Ruthye is driven by one goal: to avenge her family and bring justice to the man who killed them.

Her mission leads her to Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock. Together, the two characters set out on an epic interstellar journey shaped by grief, courage, vengeance, and justice.

    Watch the trailer here:

At first glance, Kara and Ruthye seem like an odd match. Ruthye is controlled and composed, while Kara moves through the world with a more relaxed, unpredictable energy. For Ridley, that clash is part of the fun.

“Ruthye’s quite upright and very composed and put together, but then Kara… she’s got that sort of energy where she doesn’t care what she says and she’s using a lot of slang language and it’s all really casual. You can see the difference between them and how it clashes. I think that’s really funny.”

A Big-Sister Bond With Milly Alcock

The connection between Ridley and Alcock was not limited to their characters. Screenwriter Ana Nogueira says the two actors built a warm, supportive dynamic while working on the film.

“Milly was like a big sister to Eve throughout this challenging thing that they both were doing, and I think all of that sisterly love and respect comes through on screen,” says Nogueira.

    03

She also describes Ridley as a standout discovery.

“Eve Ridley is just an unbelievable find, such a gem. She’s self-actualized, she’s just herself, nice and sweet, professional.”

Ridley shares the same admiration for Alcock, calling her a dream to work with.

“Milly is such a dream to work with. I really look up to her,” says Ridley. “She taught me so much, and she’s such an amazing actress.”

For Ridley, Alcock’s take on Kara is both powerful and emotional.

“And I think Kara is such a strong and emotional character and Milly really takes on all of those emotions and really showcases her talent. I loved working with her. She’s a bit like a big sister.”

    Learning the Language of Filmmaking

“Supergirl” also gave Ridley the chance to learn from director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Ana Nogueira.

Before filming started, Gillespie walked the actors through one of the cave scenes during a readthrough. He even sketched Ruthye and Kara, adding arrows to show where they would move in the scene. For Ridley, that simple drawing became a helpful window into the director’s vision.

    05

“I loved how he envisioned that scene to be and the way that he explains things,” says Ridley. “And learning different terms and phrases that he used will really help me for my future as well, because different directors have different methods and ways.”

Before “Supergirl,” Ridley had already appeared on television, with credits including “The Witcher” and “3 Body Problem.” Still, stepping into a major film role brought new lessons, bigger sets, and fresh challenges.

The Villain Who Truly Scared Her

One of the most unforgettable moments for Ridley happened early in production, when she met Matthias Schoenaerts, who plays the villainous Krem.

“I met him on my second day of filming, when we were doing the scene where my family gets murdered,” shares Ridley. “I’d never met him before, and he was in full costume, hair, makeup…”

    04

That first meeting was intense. Ridley had not seen photos of what Krem would look like, so the sight of Schoenaerts in full transformation caught her completely off guard.

“I was too scared to even make eye contact with him. I was physically shaking.”

Although the fear was real, it ended up helping the scene.

“I thought I liked horror films, but this was a different kind of fear, and I think that really helped with the scene because it was the first time I was seeing him and the first time Ruthye was seeing him. So, to channel all those emotions, that really helped a lot.”

Off camera, however, Schoenaerts was far from frightening.

“But under all of the prosthetics and under all of the makeup and the creepy voice, he is such a nice guy and he’s really fun to work with.” she adds.

Jason Momoa’s Rock n’ Roll Lobo

Ridley also has a fun story about working with Jason Momoa, who plays Lobo.

According to Ridley, Momoa brings “a rock n’ roll Super-Villain vibe” to the character. Even with Lobo’s tough and wild presence, Momoa was thoughtful on set, especially during action scenes.

    06

“He’s such a great actor and he’s also really kind as well, because when he had to strangle me, he was always making sure that the blades on his gloves weren’t hurting me,” shares Ridley with a laugh.”

It is the kind of behind-the-scenes detail that shows how much care goes into making a big superhero spectacle feel safe, exciting, and believable.

    Why Supergirl Matters

Beyond the action and cosmic adventure, Ridley hopes audiences connect with the heart of “Supergirl.”

“I think that she’s such an inspirational character, and especially younger children who are growing up watching all of these superhero films, they can really look up to Kara and think, wow, I want to be as brave as her when I’m older.”

    02

For Ridley, Kara’s story is a reminder that dreams are not just meant to be imagined. They can also be pursued.

“If she can make her dream come true, so can I. I don’t need to just dream it, but I can make it reality.”

Most of all, she sees Supergirl as a symbol of courage and possibility.

“I feel like Supergirl really is the definition of girl power. Every kid wants to find their superhero. I’m just happy I found mine.”

“Supergirl” lands in Philippine cinemas today, June 24. Distributed locally by Warner Bros. PH.

  • “The Most Terrifying Horror Stories Are the Ones We Relate To,” Says ‘Passenger’ Producer Walter Hamada, Now Showing in Cinemas

“The Most Terrifying Horror Stories Are the Ones We Relate To,” Says ‘Passenger’ Producer Walter Hamada, Now Showing in Cinemas

A late-night road trip becomes a waking nightmare in Passenger, the supernatural horror film now showing only in cinemas. Produced by Walter Hamada, the creative force behind The Conjuring and It, the movie follows a young couple pursued by a sinister entity lurking along isolated highways after dark.

    Watch the trailer here:

    Horror Meets Emotional Reality

While Passenger delivers chilling supernatural scares, its emotional core is what truly drives the story. The film centers on Madi and Tyler, a couple whose adventurous journey slowly reveals deeper tensions within their relationship.

For co-writer Zachary Donohue, creating believable characters was essential.

“We wanted a movie with characters you would root for, going through this journey,” explains co-writer Zachary Donohue (horror movie The Den). “Tyler has this idealized, romantic version of the American road trip, almost like a Jack Kerouac novel. He’s so ebullient and charismatic about that dream, that Madi can’t help but fall in love with it, as well.”

    PSNGR FRAME 013R 1

As their travels continue, however, reality begins to settle in. Endless highways, sleepless nights, and the dangers of living on the road force Madi to confront difficult questions about her future.

‘Maybe this isn’t the life for me.  But I love this guy so much,’” continues Donohue. “It’s really a movie about the two of them advocating for what they want, but also trying to figure out if what they want is with each other.”

That grounded emotional conflict is exactly what attracted Hamada to the project.

“The scariest movies are the ones that are the most relatable, with regular people in regular situations – and then something scary thrown on top of it.  That’s why we love haunted house movies.  And when this idea came along, it was such a fresh spin – a haunted house movie on wheels.”

A Different Kind of Horror Dynamic

Jacob Scipio, known for Bad Boys for Life and Bad Boys: Ride or Die, stars as Tyler. According to the actor, the screenplay stood out because it avoided familiar horror movie clichés.

    PSNGR FRAME 028R 1

“I just love the idea that it subverts the typical horror genre. Usually, you’ve got one character who’s in on the scare, who understands this demon or whatever may be after them, and everybody else doesn’t believe him. But what I loved about this is that Madi sees The Passenger, and Tyler doesn’t, but he believes her the whole way through. Even though he has no proof of it.”

That trust strengthens the couple’s connection throughout the nightmare.

“So they’re really a team, the whole way through. They back each other – and they love each other.”

Lou Llobell Takes On Her First Major Horror Role

Starring opposite Scipio is Lou Llobell, best known for the acclaimed sci-fi series Foundation. Although she admits horror movies usually terrify her, that fear ultimately worked in her favor while filming Passenger.

““I don’t watch a lot of horror movies – which is why doing one is great. I get scared really easily, and if you watch my scenes, you’ll see that.”

    PSNGR FRAME 038R

The actress also appreciated the intensity of the screenplay, noting that every moment carries emotional and physical consequences.

“But I’ve been dying to do something different. And with this story, every single scene has really high stakes. Every decision the characters make is important for them to survive. And, as an actor, that’s great to work with, because there’s always a reason for every single thing you’re doing.”

Melissa Leo Adds Mystery and Gravitas

Academy Award-winning actress Melissa Leo joins the cast as Diane, an experienced van lifer who understands the horrifying truth behind the entity haunting the couple.

Director André Øvredal praised Leo’s commitment and professionalism throughout production.

“She brought a gravitas to her character that was just outstanding to watch,” reveals director André Øvredal. “She would hang around with the crew, sit with us all day on set, watch us work and prep – and be ready to go immediately.”

Her dedication impressed everyone on set, especially when she volunteered to handle stand-in duties herself during technical rehearsals.

    PSNGR FRAME 045R 1

“Such an amazing professional and collaborator. A real star to work with.”

The Passenger Is More Than Just a Monster

Unlike traditional horror villains, The Passenger is designed to unsettle audiences psychologically as much as physically.

“He’s demonic, so he could just kill them. But he doesn’t want to,” says Hamada. “He likes to play with his food. He likes to torment them. He likes to drive a wedge between people. He feeds off that fear and anxiety. He waits until the meat is seasoned properly, and then he consumes their souls.”

The creature’s disturbing stillness became one of the film’s defining features. Actor Joseph Lopez worked closely with Øvredal to create subtle movements and an eerie screen presence.

“He [actor Joseph Lopez, who plays The Passenger] and I spent a lot of time rehearsing various walks and movements. And he even went to a movement coach, to figure out what could be interesting moments for him,” Øvredal says. “But in the end, we just ended up with the sinister shape of somebody in the distance.”

That uncertainty, according to the director, creates the film’s most haunting moments.

It’s the presence, the unpredictability of the unknown – where you don’t know what he’s going to do – that’s the most scary.”

Passenger is now showing only in cinemas. Distributed locally by Paramount Pictures PH.

“This one is bigger in scope and scale,” says Wan.

The explosive sequel sees Earthrealm’s champions facing their most dangerous threat yet as they battle the terrifying forces of Shao Kahn. Watch the Trailer Here:

Massive Fight Sequences Took Months to Prepare

With nearly 20 major fight scenes featured throughout the film, the production team spent months carefully planning every punch, kick, and finishing move.

Producer E. Bennett Walsh explains that preparation was essential to making the action sequences feel exciting while also supporting the story.

    6

“We’ve learned that these fights take a great deal of preparation. We have about 20 fights in total and they all had to be carefully choreographed,” he says. “We made video clips so that everyone could understand how they needed to flow, and then broke them up to add in all the technical components that went into shooting them. We doubled the stunt preparation time to five months.”

The filmmakers worked closely with stunt coordinator and second unit director Kyle Gardiner to ensure each battle had its own identity and emotional weight.

“Within each fight you have to find its point of view, as well as the narrative that you need to weave into the story, so that the audience stays with it and doesn’t get fight fatigue. The fights need to have many layers, so that they don’t flatline. With enough time, we were able to design all the fights before we began shooting. That allowed us to take it to the next level and fine tune, which gave us a great advantage.”

    7

    “There’s Blood, There’s Gore, There’s Everything!”

For Gardiner, honoring the iconic video game franchise was one of the production’s top priorities.

“We stay true to the game at all times and the truth of the game itself. We have fatalities and brutalities. It’s all there. There’s blood, there’s gore, there’s everything! We pay homage to the game, but then we take it to another level entirely. It’s pretty awesome.”

The cast underwent demanding physical training throughout production, often balancing full shooting days with nonstop stunt rehearsals.

“The cast underwent a huge amount of training. It was quite brutal. They’d work all day, every day, and then if they weren’t on set, they’d be training with us. It was impressive to see them all handle the volume and really step up to the training.”

    2

Director Simon McQuoid praised the cast’s dedication, noting that every sequence required precision, endurance, and emotional performance.

“They make it look effortless, but it’s not easy. They had to understand their performance and their character. As well as learning their actual lines, they also had to learn the fight lines of the choreography. It was a huge amount of work for each little sequence. But they all worked so very hard and I think that hard work really paid off in each and every performance. I mean, it was tough – like running a marathon. There were days where everyone was tired, but with a smile on every face.”

Karl Urban Enters the Arena as Johnny Cage

For Karl Urban, stepping into the world of Mortal Kombat meant jumping directly into stunt rehearsals from the moment he arrived.

“When I landed at the airport to start filming, they picked me up and drove me straight to a stunt rehearsal, because the stunt choreography was such a massive undertaking,” shares Urban. “So, from day one, I was thrown in at the deep end. We had an extraordinary stunt team – one of the best I’ve ever worked with.”

Urban also explored martial arts culture and tournament fighting to better understand Johnny Cage’s personality and fighting style.

Meanwhile, Tati Gabrielle, who portrays Jade, fully embraced the film’s action-heavy production.

“There were so many fight sequences, but I’m very big on stunts. I love them. I’m always like, ‘Can I do more? Can you put me on a wire? I want to do more!’ Every little step needs so many drills. But it’s so much fun. And I felt so badass all the time doing all these great stunts!”

    Mortal Kombat II Adeline Rudolph

For Adeline Rudolph, who plays Kitana, mastering the character’s signature steel fans became one of the highlights of filming.

“The fans that Kitana fights with were my favorite part. They were so much fun to play around with. Once we were in the training phase, I had a normal pair of fans to begin with, and we just started to play around with those to figure out what felt comfortable and what felt good. I love my fans! I was annoyingly obsessed with them.”

    3

Real Martial Arts Experience Added Authenticity

Several members of the cast brought real martial arts backgrounds to the production, including Max Huang, who trained for years under the Jackie Chan stunt team.

“To me, it’s about telling a story through movement,” says Huang. “I’ve been in the stunt and action world for many years, so it feels natural to me.”

He also praised co-star Ludi Lin for dedicating himself completely to the demanding fight choreography.

“Ludi Lin, who plays Liu Kang, was not so familiar. He trained so hard. He’d text me, ‘Let’s go down to the gym and train the choreography, train the fight.’ He put in so much hard work and I think it really paid off. It shows in our fight together.”

    5

A Bigger, More Explosive Mortal Kombat Experience

For producer James Wan, creating unforgettable action while remaining faithful to the beloved franchise was always the mission.

“We all felt that we wanted to get the fights correct,” says James Wan. “We wanted them to feel special and unique to each of the different characters, but also to depict the characters in the correct way. We spent a lot of time designing the set pieces with the fights, focusing on each combatant’s special traits and abilities, which shaped the sequences while propelling the story forward as well.”

Packed with spectacular battles, iconic characters, and brutal finishing moves, “Mortal Kombat II” promises an adrenaline-fueled cinematic experience fans won’t want to miss.

  • Before You Say ‘I Do’: 5 Relationship Truths from “The Drama” You Need to Know, Now Showing in Cinemas

Before You Say ‘I Do’: 5 Relationship Truths from “The Drama” You Need to Know, Now Showing in Cinemas

Love, Truth, and the Questions That Matter Most

They say love is all you need—but is it, really? Just before the vows are exchanged and promises are sealed, there’s often a quiet moment where reality whispers louder than romance. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

    The Drama 2

The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson and now showing in Philippine cinemas, delivers a gripping, emotional look at relationships standing on the edge of forever. Beneath the romance lies a compelling truth: love alone may not be enough without honesty, understanding, and the courage to confront what lies beneath.

So, before saying “I do,” here are five essential questions worth asking—ones that may just change everything.

    1. Can You Handle All the Truth?

Honesty fuels love—but let’s be real, not all truths are easy to accept. In The Drama, a single confession unravels everything, shaking not just trust but the very foundation of the relationship.

It raises a powerful question: how much truth can love actually carry before it starts to break?

    2. Do You Really Know Your Partner?

“From Charlie’s perspective, Emma is this archetype of perfection,” says Pattinson. “He can’t imagine she could possibly do anything wrong.”

Yet love, while deeply felt, can sometimes blur reality. People are layered—presenting their best selves while quietly holding back parts of who they truly are.

Are you in love with your partner as they are, or with the version of them that feels safest and easiest to hold on to?

    3. Are You Ready for the Past That Comes with Them?

Zendaya describes Charlie as someone who wants to be seen as good, someone shaped by perception and expectation. Emma, on the other hand, carries experiences that disrupt that ideal image.

When their worlds collide, the relationship is forced into unfamiliar territory.

Because here’s the truth: loving someone also means accepting the chapters of their life you didn’t witness—and the parts you may not fully understand.

    4. Can Love Survive Discomfort?

Love feels effortless when everything is certain. But what happens when doubt creeps in? When emotions clash with values? When things stop feeling simple?

The Drama explores this tension with striking intensity, reminding viewers that relationships are often defined not by comfort—but by how they endure discomfort.

If love is unconditional, where do you draw the line?

    The Drama 3

    Meet Emma & Charlie

You are cordially invited to witness a love story where perfection fades and truth takes center stage.

Meet Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Robert Pattinson) as they navigate a relationship tested by secrets, expectations, and the weight of what it truly means to commit. The Drama offers a raw, emotional cinematic experience—one that challenges the idea of “happily ever after” and replaces it with something far more honest.
