The sun is definitely shining bright these days, reminding us why we want to just stay at home or take a dip in water every summer. Of course, this strong heat also makes us want to bite onto our favorite cool snacks. One of the most popular desserts for beating the heat is gelato— the Italian version of the all-time favorite ice cream that’s denser and more flavorful!
If you’re craving gelato right now, we’ve got a list for you! We’ve rounded up some of the places in Metro Manila where you can order this delicious frozen treat!
The cafe and dessert shop in Tomas Morato delivers their beloved gelato that now comes in vegan variants! With 16 flavors for their dairy treats and 12 vegan flavors, both vegan and non-vegan gelato lovers will have a wide selection to choose from!
Aside from their lineup of delectable cakes, Cara Mia also has a good reputation for gelato lovers with their luscious take on the Italian cooler. Enjoy their roster of gelato flavors that include the Turtle Pie, Strawberry Supreme, Cookies & Cream, and Blueberry Cheesecake to name a few.
Crem Gelato takes pride in its velvety smooth offerings. Its owners are backed by the knowledge they received from Carpigiani, an internationally-renowned Italian gelato university, as well as a masterclass under an Italian gelato master.
Gelatissimo has been serving its sweet coolers for almost two decades now, starting from Sydney before they expanded to six more countries including the Philippines. The brand boasts of their fresh gelato made with the best ingredients that do not contain any artificial flavors or colors!
Another source of satisfying gelato in the city is Gelato Manila, which also offers an exciting lineup of flavors that lovers of the Italian dessert would surely enjoy. Some of these flavors include the Taho Gelato, Polvorones, Pistachio, Mango Passion Fruit, and Ginumis to name a few.
Hail Chocolate’s artisanal gelato offerings are also a must-try for the sweet-toothed crowd who hail gelato. Aside from their rich chocolate gelato flavors such as Creamy Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut, Chocolate Mint, and Vegan Dark Chocolate, customers can also opt for other flavors such as Cappucino, Cookies & Cream, Creamy Strawberry, and Salted Caramel.
Manila Creamery’s mission is to “dominate every fridge in the Philippines with the best and coolest gelato”, further expanding the reach of their brand through community resellers. Among their rich lineup of flavors are delectable gelato takes on Filipino delights such as Mangga’t Suman, Tablea Lava Cake, Davao Chocolate, Chocnut Crumble, and even Tinutong na Kanin!
Morelli’s Gelato began in 1907 with Giuseppe Morelli and his son Mario selling cool desserts in Scotland just on their bicycles. Soon, the first Morelli’s Ice Cream Parlour was opened which will become the Mecca for gelato in the UK. Filipinos can also enjoy the brand’s beloved gelato now that it’s available in the metro!

Most people might raise their eyebrows at American-style pizzas but American Pie‘s cheesy take is just as tasty as its more authentically Italian counterparts. Here at American Pie, our square crust is covered in a crispy, every-so-slightly burnt cheese crust with a satisfyingly chewy interior. This base is then topped with tangy tomato sauce and lots of cheese for a gooey, indulgent pie you won’t be able to get enough of.
Currently, American Pie offers five flavors with names that take inspiration from our pizza’s Detroit roots. The Motown Truffle Shrooms (P795) is packed with umami thanks to fresh mushrooms, ‘nduja peppers, truffle cream, and cheese. The Downtown Five-Cheese (P795), meanwhile, has the classic pizza flavors of roasted garlic, mozzarella, Parmesan, aged cheddar, mild cheddar, mascarpone, and fresh oregano.
The Bad Boys of Detroit (P795) goes the all-American route with a cheeseburger -inspired pie that has all-beef burger chunks, bacon strips, caramelized onions, and a special dressing. If you want your pie extra meaty, go for The Jackson 5 (P895) which boasts five kinds of premium meat and cheese: pepperoni, salami, seasoned beef, ham, and prosciutto plus mascarpone, parmesan, mozzarella, aged cheddar, mild cheddar, cherry tomatoes, and basil on tomato passata.
Those on a plant-based lifestyle don’t have to miss out: The Vegan Expedition (P795) is meaty, gooey, and creamy without actual meat or dairy thanks to vegan cheese, spinach cream, Beyond Beef, and mushrooms.
American Pie is available for take-out delivery via bit.ly/AmericanPieOnline, thegridfoodmarket.com, GrabFood, Foodpanda, Pick-a-Roo, or call-in orders at 09177030721 Follow @americanpieph on FB and IG for more information.
The debate on what makes a good pizza still stands. What really makes it worth trying? There are three important elements of a pizza but for me, the crust plays an important role as it’s the foundation of a pizza. It has to be thick enough to hold the toppings well, has a slight crunch but is also chewy, and of course, it has to be tasty even as is. There are a bunch of places where you can get a good slice of pizza in the metro but it can get overwhelming at times. Here, we list down pizzas that’s worth checking out this year:
Backyard Pugon
Started as a passion project in his backyard (hence, the name), Backyard Pugon churns out sourdough pizza in small batches. He is after all a one-man team! There are six kinds of pizzas and get this, each of them has been calorie- and macro-counted which is perfect for those who are looking to indulge while sticking to their diet. Aside from pizza-making, taco pockets and char-grilled kebabs are also available. He even asks his customers for topping ideas for future flavors at times.
What To Order: Margherita (P300), BYP Creamy Spinach (P450) Order here.
What used to be a small pizzeria tucked inside a food park in the heart of Poblacion, Crosta has now relocated to a more chic neighborhood that is Salcedo Village. I’ve tried a number of pizza places in Manila but Crosta still has my heart. Crosta only has one goal and that’s to make pizza great again! They offer quality pies with quirky names like Pepperonely, Pork You, and Everyday We Trufflin’. I remember they only had less than 10 on their menu when I first encountered them but now they have grown to 50 pies to choose from, with Vegan options available.
What To Order: Basic Betch (300), Cheesy AF (Stuffed Crust), Detroit Roni Cup (P700), Order here.
EAPPOC Pizza
You may be wondering what EAPPOC means so to save you a Google, it means “easy as pie, piece of cake”. They’re one of the pizza places in the metro that specializes in Detroit-style with a pizza crust that’s crispy on the outside and thick and fluffy on the inside. They have classic flavors like the OG Red and Pep but they also have more unique flavors like The Russian and Piña Express. Who says pineapple doesn’t belong in pizzas?! Their offerings are on the pricey side though, ranging from P585 to P2,500.
What To Order: Ratatouille (P950), Cacio y Pepe (P1,200), The Russian (P2,500) Order here.
It’s never a pizza list without Gino’s on it. In 2020, they landed the 34th spot on the list of 50 Best Pizzas in the World, and the second-best pizza in Asia. Their made-from-scratch Neapolitan-style pizzas are baked in-house with over 20 flavors to choose from. Make sure to get some fresh burrata on the side that’s also made in-house!
What To Order: BOMB Pizza (P455), SMEGG Pizza (P520) Order here.
Pizzulu
A pizzeria that intrigues me the most because of how fast it grew during the pandemic, Pizzulu started as a 30sqm commissary in San Juan. It has then turned into a 600sqm one, and now they’ve recently opened a new branch in BGC to cater to more people. They specialize in brick oven pizzas with 14 kinds to choose from — ranging from the classics to more premium ones.
What To Order: Spinach & Artichoke Pizza (P670), Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza (P670) Order here.
It’s easy to spot a good banana bread — soft, moist, and delicious. Some prefer a classic one, but there are other ones in the market with chocolate chips or walnut for a more indulgent treat. Whether you like to enjoy it on its own, with a smear of butter, or a scoop of ice cream, there’s just something about this baked treat that’s tasty and comforting! Here, we list down shops where you can get your banana bread fix in the metro:
If there’s one thing people can agree on, it’s chicken — boneless chicken at that. It’s a very flexible protein that goes well with any of your sides of choice. These boneless chicken dishes are usually fried twice or more to get that crispy golden skin and uber juicy meat, and then tossed in their signature sauces for an umami flavor in every bite. If you’re clueless about where and what to order, here’s a list of places around Metro Manila where you get your fill of boneless chicken and get your hands greasy:
24 Chicken
What To Order: Snow Cheese (P230/half; P440/whole) and Yangnyeom x2 (P220/half; P420/whole)
How To Order: Available on Grab Food and foodpanda
BOK Korean Fried Chicken
What To Order: Soy Garlic (P119/solo; P229/half; P449/whole)
If you’re one of the few who was shocked about % Arabica‘s sudden disappearance, you are not alone. This coffee shop that originally hails from Kyoto is known for its custom-made espresso machines and bright spaces. Initially started with their flagship store in Japan, they are now available in more than 90 locations worldwide with a tagline “see the world through coffee”.
We may have been ghosted for a bit but they actually care for their customers, they gave us an explanation. On January 31, they announced that they ended their collaboration with their previous partner but have a new collaboration in the works. “We have selected a new partner already and will make a fresh start this year to expand throughout the country,” the company added. They also said that we have to wait for a couple of months for the new opening announcement. So, while we wait for this but already missing one of their signature drinks, we’ve actually listed down a few cafés that offer a mean Spanish latte in Metro Manila:
FUN FACT: A Spanish latte is an espresso-based drink made with full cream milk and condensed milk. It’s sweeter than a normal latte and is best served cold.
Operating Hours: Multiple branches, operating hours may vary. Message them on Facebook. What To Order: Spanish Latte (P120/12oz hot; P130/16oz iced; P170/500ml jar; P460/1L bottle concentrate)
Dot Coffee
Operating Hours: Dot Coffee is available on madeats.co. They’re open for orders daily from 10:00 AM-8:00 PM. What To Order: Iced Spanish Latte (P150/16oz). As of writing, it is on promo at only P99.
