Film lovers, rejoice! Ayala Malls Cinemas is once again bringing an award-winning masterpiece exclusively to Philippine screens. Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Room Next Door”, starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, will be shown exclusively in select Ayala Malls Cinemas starting February 19.
This highly anticipated film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and was a standout at the Goya Awards, where Almodóvar received the Best Adapted Screenplay award. Adapted from Sigrid Nunez’s novel What Are You Going Through, the film is a deeply moving story about rekindling an old friendship under extraordinary circumstances.
A Story of Friendship, Loss, and Connection
In The Room Next Door, Ingrid (Moore) and Martha (Swinton) reconnect after years apart. Once colleagues at a magazine, Ingrid pursued a career as an autofiction novelist, while Martha became a war reporter. Life pulled them in different directions, but fate brings them together again—this time, in an emotional and unexpected situation.
Almodóvar, known for his vibrant storytelling and strong female leads, describes the film as an intimate yet extremeexploration of friendship. “People talk a lot in my films, the word is as essential as in the theater,” he says. “Among all the narrative elements [all of them important and in which I am unreservedly involved], it is the actors, the actresses, who really tell the story. In ‘The Room Next Door’ Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore take all the weight of the film on their shoulders. They are the spectacle.”
The film has received glowing reviews from critics worldwide:
RogerEbert.com: “Quiet yet moving, ‘The Room Next Door’ is a heartfelt meditation on friendship, grief, and death.”
Total Film: “‘The Room Next Door’ is filled with color [pistachio sun loungers, pink snowflakes, rust-coloured leaves and, of course, pops of signature red], not to mention jolts of passion, rage, ambition, lust, hurt, and intrigue,” they wrote. “Deftly navigating a script that takes in poetry, John Huston films, and environmental concerns, Moore and Swinton excel as accomplished women who worry about their failings.”
Exclusive Screening at Select Ayala Malls Cinemas
Following its QCinema debut in November, The Room Next Door is returning exclusively to the following Ayala Malls Cinemas branches:
Metro Manila: Glorietta, Greenbelt, Trinoma, Fairview Terraces, BHS, U.P. Town Center, Vertis North, Cloverleaf, Feliz, Circuit, Manila Bay

More Award-Winning Films Coming Soon!
Ayala Malls Cinemas continues to bring prestigious, must-watch films exclusively to the Philippines. After The Room Next Door, moviegoers can look forward to the upcoming The Brutalist, another highly acclaimed film set to grace the big screen soon.
Ayala Malls Cinemas continues to elevate the Filipino movie experience, bringing the Academy Award-nominated comedy-drama A Real Pain to local screens starting January 29. Directed and co-written by acclaimed actor Jesse Eisenberg, the film has captured hearts worldwide with its poignant mix of humor, history, and family dynamics.
Award-Winning Performances and Storytelling
Starring Jesse Eisenberg himself alongside Golden Globe winner Kieran Culkin, Jennifer Grey, and Will Sharpe, A Real Pain has garnered critical acclaim across the board. It has received nominations from prestigious award bodies, including the Academy Awards, BAFTAs, and Critics’ Choice Awards.
Kieran Culkin’s mesmerizing performance earned him a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor, and Jesse Eisenberg’s heartfelt screenplay has landed an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Co-produced by Emma Stone’s Fruit Tree production company, the film has joined Ayala Malls Cinemas’ impressive roster of award-season titles, including the critically acclaimed Anora.
A Personal Journey to the Past
Inspired by a life-changing trip to Poland, Eisenberg began crafting A Real Pain after visiting his aunt’s childhood home, a small village house displaced by the Holocaust. This deeply personal experience shaped the film’s heartfelt narrative about identity, family, and healing from intergenerational trauma.
In A Real Pain, David (Eisenberg) and his cousin Benji (Culkin) travel to Poland for a historical tour after their grandmother’s passing. Guided by James (Will Sharpe), the cousins reconnect while facing the weight of family tragedies and their shared heritage. With humor and heart, the film tackles profound questions about identity, history, and family bonds.
Critical Acclaim
Currently holding a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has been lauded for its emotional depth and comedic brilliance.
Empire Magazine: “‘A Real Pain’ is a real treat, a tender, funny treatise on family jealousies and our relationship to the past. Simultaneously light and heavy, it soars on the stellar pairing of Eisenberg and Culkin.”
Rolling Stone: “Eisenberg has generously gifted his costar with the sort of raging-id role that most actors could only dream of, and Culkin rewards his director/castmate with the single greatest, funniest, most cringe-comic and heartbreaking performance of his career.”

Fans of the genre (and of movies in general!) can finally watch the cult favorite anthology horror film, from Bryan Singer and Michael Dougherty, on the big screen exclusively in Ayala Malls Cinemas during Thrill Fest.

To stop himself from fully transforming, Michael, together with his brother and two vampire hunter neighbors, go on a mission to end the vampire gang in their town once and for all. Originally released in 1987.
Based on a 19th-century Russian folktale, “Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride” is a stop-motion animation that tells the story of Victor van Dort (Johnny Depp), who mistakenly marries a corpse and then goes on a hair-raising adventure in the Land of the Dead. Meanwhile, his real fiancée, Victoria Everglot (Emily Watson), goes through frightening changes herself in the Land of the Living as her family plans to wed her, against her will, to another man once they learn that Victor is gone. Originally released in 2005.
From Bryan Singer and Michael Dougherty – the director and screenwriter duo behind “X2” and “Superman Returns” – comes a comic horror anthology perfect for Halloween. “Trick ’r Treat” tells of four terrifying tales that will make audiences laugh and scared out of their wits at the same time.

Have a spooktacular Halloween at Ayala Malls Cinemas!
“The Forge,” the latest release from the Kendrick Brothers – the creative team behind the No. 1 box-office hit “War Room,” as well as “Overcomer,” “Courageous” and “Fireproof” – will be showing exclusively in Ayala Malls Cinemas starting October 9.
Directed and co-written by Alex Kendrick, “The Forge” is sure to inspire discipleship and prayerfulness as it tells the story of a young man named Isaiah Wright. A year out of high school with no plans for his future, Isaiah is challenged by his single mom and a successful businessman to start charting a better course for his life. Through the prayers of his mother and her friend Miss Clara, as well as biblical discipleship from his new mentor, Isaiah begins to discover God’s purpose for his life is so much more than he could hope for or imagine.
In “The Forge,” moviegoers will find themselves reconnecting with characters and actors they’ve known and loved as they dive into a compelling new story that is certain to inspire and challenge people to grow deeper in their faith.
Priscilla Shirer plays twin sisters Elizabeth Jordan (reprising her role from “War Room”) and Cynthia Wright in “The Forge”
Priscilla Shirer, an internationally known Bible teacher, plays Cynthia, mom of Isaiah. “It seems like a privilege that the Lord is allowing us this opportunity to do what we consider to be ministry together as a family,” says Shirer, a familiar face to fans of the Kendrick Brothers, having starred in their previous work “War Room.”
Karen Abercrombie plays Miss Clara in “The Forge”
Sure to be a fan favorite is prayer warrior Miss Clara, played by Karen Abercrombie. “Oh, it’s wonderful, just to step back into her shoes, put her wig back on,” shares Abercrombie. “She really has been one of my favorite characters to play for many reasons. The opportunity to take the message of prayer around the world, the importance of it and the power of it. Just being able to embody that character again, breathe life back into her again, it’s quite wonderful for me.”
Cameron Arnett plays Joshua Moore in “The Forge”
Cameron Arnett plays the important character of Joshua, mentor to Isaiah. Says Arnett, “Whenever I get an opportunity to testify of the Kendricks, what I say about their set is that it’s like a slice of heaven. This is what Christianity is supposed to be like. This is what the church is supposed to be like. The synergy, the oneness, the seamlessness, the prayer, the camaraderie, the laughter, the joy, the celebration of other people. I mean, all of those things just kind of come readily on the set.”
In the movie, Isaiah Wright, the young man whose story is being told in “The Forge,” crosses paths with Joshua, the owner of Moore Fitness, who offers Isaiah a job with one stipulation: they meet together regularly in a mentoring relationship.
Aspen Kennedy plays Isaiah Wright in “The Forge”
Bringing life to Isaiah is newcomer Aspen Kennedy. “Isaiah has so many centerpieces around him – his mom, his friends, basketball,” says Kennedy. “But in a way he’s still trying to overcompensate his confidence because he lacked that father figure… I love Isaiah’s journey. I love how he goes from not having that father figure to meeting Joshua and just really taking off from there because he wants to be poured into; he lacks that, so it’s a beautiful journey to experience.”
The mentoring relationship between Joshua and Isaiah is one of the most inspiring parts of the film. Audiences get to see the relationship between the two deepening as Joshua moves from mentoring to discipling Isaiah – guiding the younger man to grow in his faith.
The young Kennedy says it best: “I definitely want the audience to take away the power of forgiveness, the power of letting go. It’s the power of pouring into others, the power of investing in others, and just really understanding that we should think less of ourselves because that’s the posture that we can serve others best.”
Why The Forge?
Director Alex explains the movie’s title. “Spiritually speaking, when the Lord puts us in a forge, He works on us spiritually, to build and grow and sharpen our faith, our character, our beliefs,” Alex says. “Sometimes that comes through a level of pressure, a level of spiritual heat, if you will. And so we titled this movie ‘The Forge’ because of what it does to us spiritually.”
Offering a wide array of choices and diverse content is one of the commitments of Ayala Malls Cinemas to its patrons, movie lovers who go to the cinemas to watch movies the best way possible – on the big screen. From big blockbusters to critically acclaimed independent features to niche titles such as the faith-based “The Forge,” Ayala Malls Cinemas has something for everyone.

Get ready for an inspiring cinematic experience as “The Forge” — a powerful spinoff of the blockbuster hit War Room — hits the big screens at Ayala Malls Cinemas! Directed by Alex Kendrick and co-written by Stephen Kendrick, this heartwarming film is set to inspire and reignite faith for viewers everywhere.
A Powerful Journey of Faith
From the creators of War Room, Overcomer, Courageous, and Fireproof, The Forge tells the transformative story of Isaiah Wright, a young man at a crossroads in life. Struggling with his future, Isaiah is challenged by both his devoted single mother and a successful businessman to seek a better path. Through the unwavering prayers of his mother and the guidance of a prayer warrior, Miss Clara, Isaiah embarks on a spiritual journey of self-discovery and learns that God’s plans for him are greater than he ever imagined.

Discipleship and Prayer: A Perfect Pair
While War Room focused on the transformative power of prayer, The Forge emphasizes the role of discipleship. Director Alex Kendrick explains the synergy between the two elements of faith:
“In regard to discipleship, prayer is a huge aspect because discipleship is drawing you closer to the Lord. And of course, what is prayer? It is connecting to the Lord,” says Alex. “The women in ‘War Room’ that pray for each other and invest in the younger generation match up to the men of ‘The Forge’ praying together, keeping each other accountable, [also] investing in the younger generation. We thought, wow, this is a beautiful picture of the body of Christ because they do overlap. And so ‘War Room’ and ‘The Forge’ are in the same world and complement each other.”
Karen Abercrombie as Miss Clara
Priscilla Shirer, who played Elizabeth Jordan in War Room, returns to this spiritual universe as Cynthia Wright, the twin sister of Elizabeth. Shirer reflects on the character connection:
“When the Kendrick Brothers first reached out to me and told me this idea that they were having about Cynthia and then what her connection would be to Elizabeth, my first thought was, mind blown. Where do y’all come up with this stuff?” Priscilla recalls. “But I was excited because I thought it would give the audience an opportunity to connect with the character because they remember and are endeared already to her sister Elizabeth from ‘War Room.’ So, it seemed to me like a great opportunity to draw a connection there, to draw people’s hearts into a brand new story that has connective tissue to one that they already love.”
Priscilla Shirer as Elizabeth Jordan
Amplifying the Power of Prayer
Both Alex and Stephen Kendrick are hopeful that The Forge will inspire audiences to deepen their prayer lives and embrace discipleship. “We’re hopeful that ‘The Forge’ amplifies the need for strategic prayer, passionate prayer, devoted prayer, as well as discipleship, being devoted to Jesus Christ,” says director Alex. “Those two together are elements of the body of Christ. So, if we can embrace that, and if people embrace the film, we can’t wait to see what God does.”
Stephen Kendrick adds, “This movie really is a picture of follow me as I follow Christ.”

Thrill Fest: A Ghost Month Tradition
This year’s Thrill Fest, dubbed “Thrill Fest: The Ghost Month Classic Film Series,” is a special celebration of Ghost Month—a time when, according to tradition, the spirits of the dead visit the living. Whether you’re a horror enthusiast or a fan of classic cinema, these screenings offer a rare chance to experience these iconic films as they were meant to be seen—on the big screen.
What: In this iconic horror-slasher, a group of teenagers is terrorized by Freddy Krueger, a vengeful spirit who attacks them in their dreams. As the line between nightmare and reality blurs, the teens must stay awake to survive.
Why Watch:“A Nightmare on Elm Street” has left an indelible mark on pop culture, spawning sequels, spinoffs, and even a crossover with another horror legend. Watching Freddy Krueger’s terrifying exploits on the big screen magnifies the fear, with every jump scare, eerie whisper, and spine-chilling moment amplified by the cinema’s superior audio and visual technology.
What: At the dedication ceremony for the world’s tallest building, a fire breaks out, trapping guests inside. As flames spread and panic ensues, it’s up to architect Doug Roberts (Paul Newman) and fire chief Michael O’Hallorhan (Steve McQueen) to save those inside.
Why Watch:“The Towering Inferno” delivers edge-of-your-seat tension that only the big screen can fully capture. The visual and auditory intensity of the disaster makes for a fully immersive experience, turning each moment into a heart-pounding spectacle that keeps you at the edge of your seat.

In celebration of Ghost Month, an August tradition believed to be a time when the spirits of the dead come to visit the living, Ayala Malls Cinemas is holding their annual Thrill Fest on August 21 until September 3. This year’s lineup consists of spine-tingling horror and thriller Hollywood classics that are celebrating milestone anniversaries this year – old goodies that are back once again on the big screen for a limited time only. Even more spooktacular? Movie lovers can watch remastered versions of these frightening old favorites for only P200 – P250.
Opening this year’s festival, dubbed “Thrill Fest: The Ghost Month Classic Film Series,” are “Interview with the Vampire,” celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and “Gremlins,” originally released in 1984 and turning 40 this year. These two films, starring some of the biggest names in Hollywood – Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Phoebe Cates – will be showing in participating Ayala Malls Cinemas during the first week of Thrill Fest from August 21 to 27.
Read on to find out why you shouldn’t miss the rare opportunity to watch these classic movies on the big screen!
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (1994) What: In “Interview with the Vampire,” 200-year-old vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad Pitt) shares his story with reporter Daniel Molloy (Christian Slater), chronicling two centuries of desire, love, yearning, grief, terror, ecstasy and regret.
Why: Beautiful, mysterious and powerful – vampires are endlessly alluring creatures. Throw in both Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in the mix and it doesn’t get more alluring and classic than that.
GREMLINS (1984) What: In the idyllic small town of Kingston Falls, struggling inventor Randall Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) returns home with an unusual pet, called a Mogwai, as a gift for his son Billy (Zach Galligan). Taking care of the Mogwai is simple as long as they follow three important rules: Keep the Mogwai away from water, don’t expose him to bright lights, and never feed him after midnight. But the rules are broken, and the consequences literally multiply at an alarming rate.
Why: Cute one minute, horrifying the next. From the mind of Christopher Columbus, responsible for children’s classics “Home Alone” 1 and 2, and the first three “Harry Potter” films, the horror-comedy of “Gremlins” was so irresistible that the Steven Spielberg couldn’t pass up the opportunity to produce the film.
Only on the big screen
The Thrill Fest runs for two straight weeks, from August 21 to September 3, offering moviegoers a rare cinematic experience. This exclusive opportunity is quite affordable too! For only P200 – P250, audiences can watch these classics where they were originally made for – on the big screen.
