  • More ‘Fear Street’ Movies are Reportedly in The Works on Netflix

The Fear Street trilogy on Netflix was an instant hit last year, especially for fans of horror and slasher movies. For the viewers who thirst for more blood from the franchise, Bloody Disgusting bears some good news.

After author R.L. Stine– writer of the books that the films were loosely adapted from– teased that there may be more Fear Street films coming to Netflix, Bloody Disgusting now reports that the streaming giant “is very deep into development on more Fear Street.”

No details about these films have been revealed yet but given the positive response towards the trilogy, it’s safe to say that many viewers are excited to see more of this film franchise. Back in July last year, the films’ director Leigh Janiak told IndieWire that she was hoping to further expand Fear Street with more titles.

“I think that my hope is that audiences like it enough that we can start building out [more], we can think about what another trilogy would be, what stand-alones would be, what TV would be,” Janiak said. “I don’t even think about it like TV or movies exactly anymore. That’s the great thing about Netflix and about what ‘Fear Street’ is, which is kind of a hybrid new thing. I’m excited about the possibility of what else can happen.”

The Fear Street trilogy, tells three stories across three time periods that are connected by one town and a deadly curse. A string of murders once again plagues the town of Shadyside, and Deena and her friends find themselves at the center of it all. When they discover that the killings are connected to their town’s dark past, they make it their mission to uncover the truth about their town and put a stop to these brutal murders.

You can watch the Fear Stree trilogy: Fear Street Part 1: 1994, Fear Street Part 2: 1978, and Fear Street Part 3: 1666 exclusively on Netflix.

“Pinoy Dream Negosyo didn’t happen overnight. It is a byproduct of the team’s hard work to meet and answer the needs of the Filipinos back in 2020,” said Lana Macapagal, APAC PR Lead for Rakuten Viber. “When there was a surge in users and communities actively using Viber, we asked ourselves how we could help them further. That led us to our goal, which is to champion Filipino MSMEs.”

Viber, one of the world’s leading apps for free, secured, and easy communication, has been instrumental in helping small businesses grow and stay connected to their consumers and each other, especially during the pandemic.

Viber saw an increase in the use of its Channels feature during the Covid-19 lockdowns. Viber Channels helped entrepreneurs reach out to potential customers and like-minded individuals, allowing them to grow and manage their businesses.

Among the helpful tools for small businesses were the Raket PH and FoodPH Viber channels.

Raket PH serves as a Viber channel for MSME owners and side hustlers who want to promote their side businesses. Since its launching, Raket PH now has over 203,000 subscribers.

Food PH,on the other hand, is an online food channel that helped small and micro food entrepreneurs adapt to the “new normal” during the pandemic through contactless online purchases. FoodPH eventually evolved through its bot, serving as a transaction point for buyers. The Food PH channel has grown significantly to attract over 560,000 subscribers.

In his entry, he prepared the cassava with nata de coco, mung beans, sugar, condensed milk, ube, ultimately wowing the judges with a nilupak that resembles the flavors of halo-halo, a Filipino favorite dessert.

The winners were chosen under the supervision of DTI representative Edsel John Lingon.

Cabsag, during the media QnA segment of the event, said that he will use the prizes to upgrade his business equipment to better serve his customers. “It was a memorable and exhilarating experience for me. I met and interacted with a lot of entrepreneurs like me and gained more perspective about running a business,” he added.

Viber, a long-time supporter of entrepreneurs in the country, looks forward to the next set of enterprising individuals whose dreams it can help make a reality.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Peter Dinklage to Play the ‘Hunger Games’ Creator in Prequel Film

Emmy-winning actor Peter Dinklage, who is best known for his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones is joining yet another much-anticipated book-to-film adaptation: the prequel film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Dinklage will be joining the film’s ensemble as the Dean of the Academy, Casca Highbottom, Deadline reports. In the book, Highbottom is a friend of Coriolanus Snow’s father, Crassus, and in a drunken stupor, he was the one who came up with the idea of what would become the Hunger Games.

Based on the book of the same name by Suzanne Collins, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows the younger years of Panem’s tyrannical President Coriolanus Snow. At 18 years old, Coriolanus was assigned to mentor the District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird. When Lucy Gray shows her defiant nature, Snow finds an opportunity to unite their showmanship and political savvy to turn the odds in their favor as the 10th Hunger Games commences.

Francis Lawrence, who directed three films of the original movie saga, returns to direct The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Also starring in the film are Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird. It is set for release in US theaters on November 17, 2023.

  • Former Stunt Double of Brad Pitt Now Directs “Bullet Train”

Brad Pitt stars as Ladybug, an unlucky assassin determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs gone off the rails. Fate, however, may have other plans, as Ladybug’s latest mission puts him on a collision course with lethal adversaries from around the globe—all with connected, yet conflicting, objectives—on the world’s fastest train. The end of the line is just the beginning in this non-stop thrill-ride through modern-day Japan.

For director David Leitch, the chance to direct a movie that was unlike any other presented an unmissable opportunity. “I was attracted to how bold and original it is, and that’s the kind of movie I like to make,” he says. “It has a tone of relentless fun and snappy dialogue. But the most important thing to me was that it had well-defined characters that gave the actors a lot to chew on. It’s a fun action-thriller with crazy, bombastic characters – and it’s a meditation on fate. Really.”

“All of these characters show their humanity,” adds Leitch. “Ladybug wants to be a better person. But you also see it in the characters played by Brian Tyree Henry and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in their brotherhood – they clearly care for each other. Joey King’s character is a sociopath, but she has a dynamic with her father that we can all connect with. You can go on this journey with these remorseless killers and still feel for them, have fun, laugh at the jokes.”

That makes it a movie that fits squarely into Leitch’s vision as a director. “It’s hard these days to strike out and make an original movie – not a sequel or a superhero story – but we’re up for the challenge,” Leitch continues. Through his company 87North, Leitch is seeking to bring his own personal stamp to action movies and the way action is portrayed. Having entered the business as a stuntman, and rising to become a stunts supervisor and choreographer before staking a groundbreaking directorial style with the films Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and John Wick, Leitch says that there are boundless opportunities to stretch the action genre. “There’s action in comedy, there’s action in thrillers, there’s action in horror,” he says. “My entire adult life has been action on film. Action is in my DNA. So I’m excited by the idea of taking big, provocative swings and making bold choices, as we keep it action-adjacent.”

Leitch had gained Pitt’s trust by serving as his stunt double on several of the actor’s classics – Fight Club, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Troy, and more – before making his mark as a director. Pitt knew he’d be in safe hands. “It was a little funny to me, watching Brad play a stuntman in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. I can tell you that the relationship between actor and stuntman that was part of that movie is real,” says Leitch. “You develop a close and collaborative relationship. We went in different directions for a while, but fate wasn’t done with us, and I’m so glad it’s brought us back together.”

  • ‘The Black Phone’ keeps it simple and puts the tension front-and-center

One of the best things about ‘The Black Phone’ is how it keeps the narrative down to its essentials. There are a lot of backstories implied or referred to but it never digresses from the main storyline to explore them. It stays focused on the main plot, about a young kid who is kidnapped and trapped in a basement, and keeps the camera on them and the kid’s sister, who is trying to find him. Another interesting point is that ‘The Black Telephone,’ based on the short story by Joe Hill, is a supernatural tale but the danger doesn’t come from the ghosts that you see in the trailer. That real danger here is another human being. And for some reason, that makes the film even scarier.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, with a screenplay by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, ‘The Black Phone’ is not your typical horror film. The source of fear comes from the anticipation that something bad is going to happen. From the trailer, you can tell that the ghosts are actually all the former victims of the kidnapper. While they do appear in gruesome forms, they are actually helping Finney, the latest victim, to try and get out alive. Instead of shocking you with images of violence, it is implied; that it is coming but not yet and that is what creates the tension that pervades throughout the film.

It’s a nice subversion of the genre, extending the suspense, building the anticipation, and creating moments of hope that Finney can get out in one piece. The film, then, isn’t so much as scary as it is thrilling, capitalizing on our hope that this story will end well for the protagonist and that’s what drives the film’s momentum forward.

Another interesting subversion, shared by one of the critics I got to see this with during the special screening, is how the voices of the victims are amplified in this movie and not the villain’s. There is no glorification or humanization of this kidnapper and after this was pointed out to me, I thought that was a welcome and necessary change.

    The Black Phone movie review
    Photo: The Black Phone Trailer

Derrickson builds a very distinct world in this film. ‘The Black Phone’ is set in the late 70s so the lack of technology creates even more obstacles for our characters. Before Finney is kidnapped, we see the world he inhabits: a close relationship with his sister, their abusive alcoholic father, and the bullies at his school that have made life very challenging for him. The stronger one amongst the siblings is his sister Gwen, who might’ve been smart enough to not get kidnapped, but knowing Finney’s vulnerabilities makes us feel more attached to him as the victim.

Compounded by the narrative elements is the wonderful acting amongst all the kids. Mason Thames, who plays Finney, and Madeleine McGraw, who plays Gwen, do a great job at bringing their characters to life. For Thames, he instills so much fragility within his Finney but also shows his sparks and moments of cleverness, while McGraw makes tough and foul-mouthed Gwen such a spirited character. She juggles multiple emotions including a surprisingly genuine laugh-out-loud moment in the middle of the film that completely endears you to the character. While the adults like Ethan Hawke, as the kidnapper, and Jeremy Davies, as the alcoholic father, play a great role, this movie is really a showcase for all the child actors involved.

    The Black Phone movie review
    Photo: Universal Pictures PH Facebook

There are minimal jump scares in this film and that’s perfectly alright because what ‘The Black Phone’ does is to put you right smack dab in the center of a very tense situation and then plays with your emotions and gives you characters and a goal to root and cheer for. You’ll find yourself tapping your feet anxiously hoping that things don’t turn out the way the film manages to illustrate through the presence and stories of these ghosts.

Derrickson does an amazing job at managing and playing with expectations and suspense and I’m excited to see what he’s up to next.

  • Ellis Co gives a glimpse of his debut collection for urban high fashion label ARCHIVES

Young Filipino designer Ellis Co invites everyone to “reminisce the future” with his upcoming collection “Memoirs of the Future.” Merging the past and what’s to come through design, the collection is set to mark the launch of his urban high fashion label ARCHIVES, established earlier this year.

    Ellis Co ARCHIVES

In making the collection, Ellis took influences from Brutalist architectural style from the ‘50s and ‘60s and New Brutalism from Berlin and Copenhagen. Known for its monolithic appearance and geometric beauty, the architectural movement is combined with the Japanese fashion aesthetic. This makes the collection a showcase of ensembles that reimagines silhouettes aiming to redefine clothing function and reimagine the idea of fashion for individuals.

“I chose the brand name ARCHIVES because the clothes that I design are timeless and lasting pieces, and in itself, a collection of historical records,” Ellis, the brand’s founder, and director of design, says. “I perceive these pieces as the remnants of me as a designer for years to come, and years after I’m gone.”

“For this collection, I tasked myself with redefining function by adding and creating new functions on my designs,” he adds.

    Archives 2

This is not the first time Ellis dipped his toes in fashion. At age 16, Ellis started designing shirts and selling shoes. While working as the Assistant Vice President for Operations for his family’s real estate and construction company, Sunwest Group Holdings Company, Inc., the 21-year-old designer established two fashion brands prior to ARCHIVES. In his latest endeavor, he is joined by visual artist Reika Mayani, who serves as the creative director of the brand.

During a press preview, members of the media got a glimpse of the “Memoirs of the Future,” presenting the pieces designed with the idea of “deja vu” in mind. “When I design, I’m very focused on the silhouette, how the shape looks, how the piece drops on the body, especially, the minor details,” Ellis muses. “Basically, I’m trying to make something that hasn’t been done yet but is still familiar. I try to find the familiarity in the unfamiliar.”

ARCHIVES’ “Memoir of the Future” collection will be revealed on July 27, 2022, at Whitespace Manila in Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati City, which will be live streamed online. Beyond just a traditional runway show, the collection’s launch will be a truly multi-sensory experience with a graphic projection of the line’s inspiration, a taste of the future with molecular gastronomy, and a scentstation, all leading to the unveiling of the collection with a unique sound experience as the designer will produce original music for the show.

Since the mid-1800s, the Filippo Berio brand has become synonymous with Italian olive oil excellence thanks to modern production facilities, uncompromising quality standards, and a strong brand integrity. Its unique flavour has made it one of the leading brands in the world.

    Filippo Berio

If there was one thing for which Filippo Berio was particularly proud of it was the exceptional quality of his olive oils. He worked hard to ensure that each bottle was made from the best olives using ‘tried and true’ production methods.

In every deliciously rich bottle of Filippo Berio olive oil lies 150 years of skilled craftsmanship. We treat our heritage with great care, ensuring Filippo Berio’s signature today represents the same uncompromising quality that our founder intended.

Today, his stringent quality standards are still applied at every stage of the production process, which takes place in SALOV’s state-of-the-art production facility just outside Lucca, Italy.

    Filippo Berio 1

Filippo Berio’s highly-experienced tasters sample 6,000 olive oils each year, yet only 6% are actually selected to become Filippo Berio olive oil.

During the selection process, stages of analysis must be passed in order for an olive oil to be considered Extra Virgin.

    Filippo Berio 2

The very best and purest form of olive oil is extra virgin which is stored or bottled immediately after pressing, just as it is. To obtain this prestigious classification however, the olive oil must undergo a range of stringent tests to ensure that its acidity levels are below 0.8%. All oils above this limit are sent to a refinery and blended with extra virgin olive oils to add flavour, the resulting product is known as standard or pure olive oil .

Filippo Berio Olive Oil has become a staple ingredient in the kitchen that some of the country’s renowned chefs use it as an everyday cooking oil.

“What’s great about using Filippo Berio olive oil is that you get a longer shelf life with your pastries as compared to butter,” says Chef Angelo Comsti.

“Filippo Berio Extra Virgin olive oil, it’s really high quality, very flavorful and they’re experts in olive oils” says Chef Jackie Laudico.

  • Russo Brothers, Ryan Gosling, & Chris Evans Talk About ‘The Gray Man’ Action Scenes & Humorous Lines

The Russo Brothers’ new spy thriller The Gray Man is set to drop on Netflix this July 22, and while fans could expect some epic, action-packed sequences, the film also promises to further entertain fans with the directors’ brand of humor.

In The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling plays the CIA operative Court Gentry, aka Sierra Six– a highly-skilled Agency-sanctioned mercenary who becomes the target of the psychopathic Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former CIA cohort that is now hellbent on taking him down.

The film also stars Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Wagner Moura, and Alfre Woodard.

In a recent press conference for the Netflix film, the directors and cast of the film answered some questions about the creation of the movie, its characters, the action scenes, and the film’s funny moments. Check out the highlights of the Q&A below:

What would you say sets The Gray Man apart from other spy thrillers?

Joe Russo: Well, this is a modern story. I think that, you know, Bond is about 60 years old at this point and Bourne’s about 20 years old and this film is connected in a lot of ways to some issues that are going on in the world right now. The character is exceedingly existential, quite funny, and we just find that it fits our sense of humor. And, you know, it’s the kind of film that, you know, we feel would work well with today’s audiences.

For Ryan Gosling, is The Gray Man one of the films that have required the most of you physically, and how was your training for this movie?

Ryan Gosling: Yes. There was, as you can imagine, a lot of training for the film. But, yeah, I had, you know, an incredible amount of help. There was an amazing stunt team. You know, at first, they sort of went through all these different styles of martial arts and sort of tried to curate it for you and the character. And then we had this amazing advisor named Chili Palmer, who’s an ex-Delta Force member. I tried to just sort of join myself at the hip with him. He had all these, you know, amazing tactical advice, but also these really amazing ideas.

    The Gray Man 1

How do you balance the comedic moments and the action-packed serious ones? Do you prepare differently depending on the tone of the script?

Gosling: Well, I think yeah, you prepare differently. It depends on the filmmakers. The Russos have a really cool process– one I’ve never done before– where at the beginning of the film, we sat with all of the department heads, and they put the script up on a big screen, and everybody, you know, sort of starts talking about it as they work through it. And at first, it makes it not precious and very collaborative. And also, it really gets you on the same page, literally. You know what movie you’re making. And it just became clear that we were kind of shooting for the stuff that I grew up loving in the ’80s and ’90s that had a kind of sense of humor about itself.

It also helps because, you know, it’s not often that you find yourself, like, falling through a trap door and end up in a well in some guy’s Czechoslovakian apartment. So the fact that you can comment on that, you know, that the Russos sort of open it up, that you can sort of say in the movie, “Okay, this is, you know, this was unexpected,” [LAUGHS] it sort of helps, you know? And it gives you a gear in the movie that you don’t have in a lot of other films. So, you know, this was kind of a unique process in that way, but I really enjoyed it.

For Chris Evans, would you say playing such a complex role as Lloyd gives you a more liberating experience as an actor?

Chris Evans: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, playing a villain is always a little more fun, you have a little bit more freedom, you get a lot more jokes, but working with the Russos is what gives that sense of trust and freedom. You know, when you trust the filmmakers, you’re more willing to take risks, and certainly a character like this demands risks. So, without the Russos and the relationship and rapport we have, I don’t know if I would have had such a rewarding experience. Look at that? Brought the lights up. Brought the lights up.

    The Gray Man 3

Did you work with Chris Evans in developing the comedic side of Lloyd?

Joe Russo: Yeah, I mean, it’s really important to us to work with the cast on the scripts. We want them to have emotional ownership over the characters. And everyone here is a great storyteller, as well as an incredible actor. They all have an amazing wealth of experience. And, you know, we encourage all of our collaborators to bring that to the table. You know, the script, for us, Anthony and I like to prepare so that we can throw things away. That’s a really, it’s an old adage in filmmaking, so we’re always available to what’s happening in the moment.

If there’s something organic or funny, or if somebody says something funny, it doesn’t matter where it comes from, if it works with the character and it works with the story, we’ll try it. And everyone here brought dialogue, jokes, you know, character accents in a way that really filled out the film and made it much more colorful.

For Ana de Armas, what was with The Gray Man that made you want to join the cast?

Ana de Armas: Many things. I was very, very excited that the Russos thought of me and as soon as I got on the Zoom call with them and they presented this character for me and the story, I was in. And I wanted to work with Ryan again, I wanted to work with Chris again, and all this amazing cast behind me.

And the character, I just loved it. I love who this woman is and all her background and training and her mentality and how badass she is and how fearless she is, and all of that.

    The Gray Man 5

What was the hardest part in filming the Prague sequence?

    Joe Russo: All of it.

Anthony Russo: Yeah, every single element of it. You know, the Prague sequence, we needed a large section of the city to pull that off. That sequence starts in a major city square, and it continues through a chase throughout the city, so it was very complex. And, you know, just to give you an example of how hard it was, there’s a tram that the Gray Man gets on and Ana’s character is sort of chasing it in a car and there’s a lot of other mercs around and it careens through Prague, and in order to shoot that sequence, we were using actual trams in Prague.

We built a bus that was designed to look exactly like a tram but ran on wheels because sometimes we needed to run the tram faster than the tram could actually go, or we needed to take it down streets that didn’t have tracks, et cetera. And then we also had a tram that was located at a lot in Prague that was stationary that we would sort of shake, and we had blue screen around it. So, you’re building the sequence through all those different locations, we’re shooting with our main cast, we’re shooting with stunt performers for the portions that are too dangerous, and it was a very complex process to build that.

We’re grateful to everyone in Prague, Prague’s an amazing filmmaking center, they have an amazing crew there, and the people are very supportive of filmmaking. So, you can only pull something that complex off at a place like Prague.

    The Gray Man 4

Why did you decide to shoot it on location instead of in a studio?

Joe: It would have been tough and required a lot of VFX. I mean, that is a very tactile sequence, you know? And you know, it’s interesting, whenever you go into a town, we did this with Winter Soldier, we shut down a freeway. We went back to Cleveland, our hometown, to shoot the movie and everyone was very happy, and then we shut down the freeway for two weeks and…

Anthony: I was gonna say, they weren’t that happy. That was short-lived.

Joe: I don’t think we can go back to Prague or Cleveland, but we’re very grateful that we were able to shoot on location.

Is it possible that we’ll get more stories in The Gray Man universe?

Anthony: Look, part of our motivation to assemble a cast like this, an amazing cast like this who can embody so many interesting characters, was the hope of creating sort of a universe that you wanted to follow all of them, either forward or backward from this moment in time that we caught in this first movie. So yes, hopefully, there will be more stories to tell in The Gray Man world.

  • MCU’s Russo Brothers Say Netflix’s ‘The Gray Man’ Could Spawn a Spy Thriller Cinematic Universe

The Russo Brothers’ new spy thriller The Gray Man is set for release on Netflix in a few days, and while fans have yet to see the film, the directors have already teased the possibility of it growing into a cinematic universe.

The Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, are best known for directing Avengers: Endgame for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so the idea of the two growing another cinematic universe would surely elicit excitement among fans of the directors and the spy genre.

In a recent press conference for The Gray Man, Anthony Russo shares that they’ve designed their new film with the possibility of producing sequels, prequels, or spinoffs in mind.

“Look, part of our motivation to assemble a cast like this, an amazing cast like this who can embody so many interesting characters, was the hope of creating sort of a universe that you wanted to follow all of them, either forward or backward from this moment in time that we caught in this first movie. So yes, hopefully, there will be more stories to tell in The Gray Man world,” Anthony Russo explained.

Based on the book of the same name by Mark Greaney, The Gray Man tells the story of CIA operative Court Gentry, aka Sierra Six, a highly-skilled Agency-sanctioned mercenary. But tables have turned and Gentry finds himself as the target of the psychopathic Lloyd Hansen, a former CIA cohort that is now hellbent on taking him down.

Ryan Gosling stars as Sierra Six while Chris Evans plays the villain Lloyd Hansen. Also part of the all-star ensemble are Ana de Armas as the badass agent Dani Miranda; Bridgerton‘s Rege-Jean Page as the ambitious agency Group Chief Denny Carmichael; Jessica Henwick as the cunning Deputy Group Chief Suzanne Brewer; Wagner Moura as the talented counterfeiter Lazlo Soza; Dhanush as the ruthless Avik San; Alfre Woodard as the former bureau chief Margaret Cahill; Julia Butters as the young Claire Fitzroy; and Billy Bob Thornton as the creator of the Sierra program, Donald Fitzroy.

The Gray Man will start streaming on Netflix this July 22, 2022.
