Following the success of the Eraserheads reunion concert last December, the DAY 2 of the upcoming Clark Aurora Music Festival has people rushing to buy tickets with Ely Buendia as its main headliner.

Filipinos can now enjoy a variety of content on Netflix at a lower subscription cost

Netflix announced a region-wide update to some of its subscription plans. Starting February 21, 2023, subscribers from the Philippines can now enjoy a variety of movies and shows on Netflix at a much lower cost.

Users currently subscribed to the Basic Plan will now be paying monthly fees amounting to PHP 249 (from PHP 369), while subscribers under the Standard Plan can now enjoy watching their favorite shows with a monthly cost of PHP 399 (from PHP 459). Mobile Plan and Premium Plan holders will still retain their same monthly subscription cost– PHP 149 and PHP 549 per month, respectively.

New members who sign up will see the new price for the plans immediately starting February 21, 2023. The update will roll out to existing members over the coming weeks from their next billing cycle. Existing members will be notified by email, [as well as within the Netflix app 30 days before the new prices are applied to them ]. The exact timing will depend on the specific member’s billing cycle.

Netflix has been investing heavily in great new shows and films over the last few years – and have an amazing TV and film slate in the coming months, including Murder Mystery 2, Extraction 2, Heart of Stone, An Inconvenient Love, as well as recently launched titles like You S4, Your Place or Mine, Alice In Borderland 2, Glass Onion: Knives Out, Wednesday, The Witcher. Another artist joining Foster is Pia Toscano who was one of the frontrunners on American Idol’s Season 10 run for her powerhouse voice and head-turning looks. Toscano performed alongside Jennifer Lopez in her Vegas Residency, “All I Have”, and regularly tours with David Foster and Andrea Bocelli. Pia released her first album, “I’m Good” with originally written music including a collaboration with Usher. She’s headlined her own show in Las Vegas which was filmed as a PBS special and has released a musical film entitled “1660 Vine”.

Also joining McPhee and Toscano is Daniel Emmet who appeared on America’s Got Talent with his spellbinding and commanding operatic voice. His wide range of expression spans musical genres from rock to pop, to opera, all the while singing in seven languages. Emmet released his acclaimed single “True Reflection” which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Classical Chart and has headlined shows in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace, T-Mobile Arena, Paris Las Vegas, and Westgate Las Vegas. He has toured with Marie Osmond, and most recently returned to America’s Got Talent this past season for a viral performance as the singing voice of Simon Cowell for the act of artificial intelligence company Metaphysic. Daniel regularly tours with David Foster and Katharine McPhee and recently held his highly anticipated new concert special “Daniel Emmet & Pia Toscano, Simply the Best” at the iconic International Theatre at Westgate Las Vegas.

“David Foster and Friends, Live at The Theatre at Solaire” will also feature some of the most prolific Filipino voices showcasing the distinct and world recognized Pinoy showmanship to an already incredible performance lineup. The Philippines’ Concert King Martin Nievera will join the hitmaker on stage every show, while Asia’s Phoenix Morissette enchants with her voice from March 21 to 22 and March 24 to 26 at the 8PM shows.

Learn how to Paint Chinese-style at Araneta City’s Gateway Gallery

Prof. Arnulfo “Arnold” Esguerra returns to Gateway Gallery to conduct four sessions of Dynamics of Brush and Color, a Chinese watercolor painting workshop for students who are interested and passionate about Oriental art, specifically Chinese painting.

In this workshop, Esguerra will be teaching his students the Gong-bi style, the Traditional Meticulous style or what they call the Court style of painting, and Xieyi, the freehand or literati style. He has painted and exhibited eclectic themes in these two styles—from the natural world to everyday Filipino scenes, honing his skills through constant practice and teaching.

The sessions are meant to give the students skills on the proper holding of brushes (brush strokes); familiarization with Xuan paper and Chinese pigments; techniques in the meticulous style of Chinese painting; and techniques in coloring in the freelance style.

An expert and a prolific artist of Chinese art, Esguerra started painting at age five and has been practicing Chinese painting since the 1980s. He fell in love with Chinese painting when he attended a class on it in Liberty Hall, Binondo in 1984, the center of artistic activities in Manila’s Chinatown. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the Philippines Manila where he has lectured courses on Philippine and Asian History, Archaeology, and History of Medicine.

Dynamics of Brush and Color will be held at the Gateway Gallery (in Gateway Tower, Araneta City) on February 25, March 4, 11, and 18. It promises to be a fun, learning opportunity through a focused and personalized mentoring approach. Esguerra will be providing limited but free Xuan papers, which he sourced from Taiwan.

Michael B. Jordan Stars, Makes His Directorial Debut in “Creed III”

He states, “I had a clear vision of what I wanted the story to be, where I wanted the Creed family to go. The challenge of directing helped motivate me—I wanted to see if I had what it takes to act in and direct something that had been kicking around in my head for a long time. “Creed III” is very personal to me and, thankfully, all those things added up to the perfect situation for this movie.”

In the film, after dominating the boxing world, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has been thriving in both his career and family life. When a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score, Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian – a fighter who has nothing to lose.

“This is an origin story, a sequel, and a trilogy all in one,” says Jordan. “We’ve seen Adonis at a young age in the earlier films, but we never had the chance to really see how he was in and out of juvie, what really shaped him to be the Adonis Creed that we know, before he was adopted and brought into a life of wealth, opportunity and legacy. I felt it would result in a kind of identity crisis for him.”

Jordan feels a kinship with the character of Adonis. Before Jordan ascended to global superstar with his performance in Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther,” it was the director’s 2015 “Creed” that introduced Jordan to the power of not just admiring, but being part of, a cinematic legacy.

“I grew up along with Adonis Creed,” says Jordan. “I created him with Ryan and got a chance to play him at pivotal times during my own personal life. So now, in the third film in the series, to be able to tell the story of where I am now, and where Adonis is on his journey, feels extremely personal.

“I was excited to see Adonis through to wherever he needed to go next,” Jordan adds. “How does he stay hungry? How does he find motivation now? The answer was, through a reminder about who he was before fame, and before he got everything that he dreamed of. As an actor and a director, that’s what I was most interested in exploring.”
