It’s not every day you get to see your favorite celebrities cook tasty dishes for customers. The stars of Jinny’s Kitchen have been in hit dramas and films, being well known all over the world. Four of the cast members have experience working together in previous seasons like Youn’s Stay. V of the popular K-pop boy group BTS, joins as a new member this time through Jinny’s Kitchen. While we’re used to seeing the more glamorous sides of these stars, Jinny’s Kitchen allows us to see the talent in a more natural state as they run the restaurant business together. Lee Seo-jin teased, “Their new sides are something worth watching.”
2. The Chemistry
[Park Seo-jun, V, Lee Seo-jin]
Having worked with each other for multiple seasons and having close friendships with one another, the chemistry exhibited by the team is definitely friendly and comfortable. Choi Woo-shik shared, “Back then or now, we had so much fun.” Even with their close relationships though, there’s still room to learn new things about each other. Lee Seo-jin commented, “This time, I learned that Yu-mi and Seo-jun are actually very talkative.” In addition, many fans are looking forward to seeing the chemistry between Park Seo-jun, Choi Woo-shik, and V, who are known to be real-life BFFs. Park Seo-jun said, “It gave us a chance to get closer.” Tune in to see their chemistry for yourself!
3. The Delicious Food
[Jung Yu-mi]
In contrast to previous seasons, Jinny’s Kitchen will be serving up Korean street food. The approachable comfort food is sure to make your mouths water and entice your taste buds. You can get a behind-the-scenes look at how various Korean street food items are prepared and learn more about Korean food in general. Jung Yu-mi talked about being in charge of making the gimbap and noted, “It’s easier to make gimbap in Korea.” It’ll also be interesting seeing some customers experience Korean food for their first time. Director Nah Yung-suk added, “I hope you enjoy watching residents and tourists enjoying Korean food.”
4. The Beautiful Location
[Clockwise from left: V, Jung Yu-mi, Lee Seo-jin, Park Seo-jun]
Jinny’s Kitchen is set in the picturesque town of Bacalar, Mexico. The dazzling place is known for its gorgeous lake of 7 colors. On top of the beauty of the stars and the food, there’s amazing scenery to enjoy. Director Nah Yung-suk stated, “Beautiful nature in Mexico is something to watch, obviously.” While the members were very busy running the restaurant, they spoke fondly of their time in Mexico. Choi Woo-shik said, “We made very good memories in Mexico.” Park Seo-jun echoed this sentiment and added, “We also made memories all the way in Mexico.” The spectacular landscape will help soothe any travel bug itches you might have!
5. Fun Multi-Genre Show
[Park Seo-jun, Jung Yu-mi, Lee Seo-jin, Choi Woo-shik, V, Nah Yung-suk]
Jinny’s Kitchen is not just a cooking show or a travel show or a business show. In Park Seo-jun’s own words, “I believe it consists of various genres.” You get to see a multi-faceted show that is funny and full of heart. Director Nah Yung-suk joked, “Youn’s Kitchen was a therapeutic show. It was peaceful and calm. But this is more like a survival show. It’s like watching an office drama.” V commented, “I was expecting to be a server, but I was surprised to cook. In BTS, I’m the worst cook,” hinting at many funny moments ahead. Director Nah Yung-suk concluded, “If you need some fun and laughs, I suggest you watch it.”
Are you ready to see the top stars in action now? Don’t miss out when Jinny’s Kitchen premieres on February 24, only on Prime Video!
There’s more to talk about Cuenca, Batangas other than its local bake shops. Recently, Cuenca Institute celebrated its 75th Founding Anniversary, acknowledging and paying tribute to outstanding alumni who have made their marks in the world and succeeded in what they were meant to do. One of whom is Lucito ‘Chito’ Chavez, Founder and General Manager of Tinapayan Festival.
Lucito Chavez, Cuenca Institute (Photo Credit: Cuenca Institute)
Chavez garnered the highest award for all of his help in building and establishing the town of Cuenca, Batangas as the Home of the Bakers. Part of Class 1974, Chavez along with his good friend Arch. Nelson Chavez has worked closely together to bring pride and joy to the town.
“It’s not about what you gain from succeeding but from the lessons you learn as you go along the way. Being a Cuencano has helped shape me into the man I am now. I look back at all the formative years, and I know that I have learned so much during my high school years to catapult me into doing my part as a Filipino citizen, Cuencano, and Batangueno,” shares Chavez.
During his speech in Cuenca Institute’s 75th Founding Anniversary, he shares how he has put into practice what he has learned in school. “Wala akong kodigo ngayon. Hindi ako nagbaon ng kodigo dahil bawal sa Cuenca Institute. Mag-aral kayo, kagaya ng disiplina ng mga guro dito,” shares Chavez. (I don’t have crib sheets for my speech today. Because crib sheets are forbidden at Cuenca Institute. That’s how the teachers here disciplined me so you should follow in their teachings.)
Cuenca Institute and its Contribution
For all the years of its existence, Cuenca Institute has produced great minds with students graduating with honors, pursuing great careers, and placing the school on the map of the Philippines. Graduates of Cuenca Institute became great professionals; some have become deans, doctors, town and city mayors, and successful business owners here and abroad.
President, Philippine Society of Baking
Chito Chavez and Arch. Nelson Cuevas are some of those outstanding graduates. They have become pioneering advocates for local bread who pushed for the improvement and recognition of local bakers in the country. Part of this campaign was paving the way for agricultural crops to be utilized in local baking. Led by Arch. Cuevas, the incorporation of agricultural products led to the innovation of pandesal made from kamote, carrots, squash, ube, and so much more. This has then led to empowering the Department of Science and Technology as they now develop and use agricultural crops in their nutribun program.
“Si Arch. Nelson Cuevas ang unang gumawa ng pandesal na may kamote, pandesal na may kalabasa, carrot, at ngayon ay proyekto na ng Department of Science and Technology sa kanilang nutribun na project,” emphasizes Chavez. (Arch. Nelson Cuevas was the first to create pandesal that incorporated sweet potatoes, squash, and carrots, which now inspires the nutribun project of the Department of Science and Technology.)
Encouraging the Community to Lift Local Bakery Industry
For over four decades, Chavez has longed for and pushed to lift the local bakery industry one step at a time. Together with partners in the private and public sectors, he has worked closely with the key players to help the livelihoods of many bakers, farmers, and store owners in the process. “There’s still a lot for us to do to bring back the glory of pandesal making in the country. If years back, 40% of flour was used by the bakery industry to create the ever-beloved pandesal, today, only a mere 19% of flour production is used to create our national bread,” he shares.
Chito Chavez, Production Area
This is one of the plights of many in the local bakery industry due to several economic circumstances but Chavez encourages more concerned citizens, especially those from Cuenca to take their part in helping solve the problem in the bakery industry and uplift the livelihood that once was the bread and butter of the town.
Chito Chavez is just one of the many Cuenca Institute graduates who look back at the past and ensure that their learnings and journey shape what they become. But for his goal of building a strong local bakery industry, it is essential that customers also work together by supporting local bakeries, and choosing healthy options such as products with agricultural crops incorporated in them.

Based on the play by Samuel D. Hunter, The Whale is the story of an extremely overweight gay man, whose condition has put his life at risk and he hopes to reconcile with his estranged daughter before he passes on. I haven’t seen the play myself, but watching director Darren Aronofsky’s film adaptation, I can already imagine it on stage. It is a story told within a single setting and the main character, Charlie, is so overweight that he struggles to move around his own home. I can even imagine that Charlie wouldn’t have to leave his couch (though a review I’ve read states that the play does involve Charlie getting up from the couch and showing the difficulties and challenges his massive frame sets before him). Even the narrative and the way by which it unfolds is very theatrical: characters come to visit Charlie and when they interact, more and more of the backstory is revealed – how Charlie got this big, why is his relationship with his daughter so fractured, and so on – and the information begins to collide and push us towards a climax.
I can imagine how powerful this would be on stage. Charlie’s story involves a past lover, his thoughts on religion and faith, his dedication as an English teacher, and his messy relationships with his ex-wife and daughter. It’s a powerful character study and it’s quite riveting to watch the different characters engage with each other. ‘The Whale’ has excellent actors on deck, which creates electricity in every scene. Brendan Fraser is incredible as Charlie. It’s a very physical role where every movement causes discomfort or pain. He is very aware of his condition – and the danger his body is in shutting down at any moment – and it fuels his need for some form of reconciliation with Ellie, played by Sadie Sink. Sink is a far better actor than she shows here in this film. She’s playing Ellie a little too big and too dramatic and isn’t giving us a range of emotions that she’s shown us she could do in her work in ‘Stranger Things.’ It’s not a nuanced performance that we’ve come to know of her. That nuance is delivered by Fraser, Hong Chau, and Samantha Morton.
Chau plays Liz, Charlie’s only friend and a nurse, whose tough exterior and overprotective attitude regarding her friend creates some very powerful warm moments. Chau balances the concern and the love that a best friend carries and we can see all the history of these two characters in the way she deals with Fraser. As the story unfolds and we understand the full extent of their relationship, we see the brilliant tapestry of emotions Hong Chau weaves into her character and it’s no wonder she was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Samantha Morton, on the other hand, plays Mary, Charlie’s ex-wife. She’s got one long scene but the emotional peaks and valleys she crosses also betrays her character’s long history with Fraser’s Charlie. Things are said for the first time ever and it feels so spontaneous and real.
It’s the performances that really elevate the movie. Watching Fraser and Chau and Morton and Sink (and Ty Simpkins as Thomas, a missionary from the New Life Church) play out these pivotal moments in Charlie’s life at this period in time allows it to reach a crescendo that had me in tears. I was crying and I was shocked because there was so many things I was resisting against in this movie.
My first resistance was in the way by which Aronofsky captured Charlie’s obesity. There was no space for compassion in his camera work. We were made sure that we would see all of Charlie’s folds and layers. We were meant to ogle at every part of his body. There was no dignity at all and it felt very uncomfortable. The first few times was enough but the fact that the film does this throughout the 117 minute running time felt like we were meant to cast judgment on his obesity. As a play, there’s a distance that is created by the stage and the audience, but in film, the camera can get close and Aronofsky brings that camera really close and instead of being compassionate, I felt I was made to feel pity for Charlie.
And maybe the play had more of a story involved but Charlie has an obsession of “the truth” in the essays of his students of his persuasive writing class. There is a running thread about how there’s so much “b#llsh!t in the world right now” and “no one says the truth” but never does this adaptation ever explain his attachment to honesty. It’s such a powerful story point at the end but it never really feels connected to all the other parts of the film – not it’s underdeveloped thoughts on religion and faith, nor its discussion on grief and depression, nor on forgiveness and redemption – so when the finale hits, I’m crying because the performances are so strong but it feels sort of empty.
On the surface, ‘The Whale’ can seem like it broaches so many important themes such as mental health, grief, discrimination and homophobia, and so on and you can be brought in by the strength of the performances of the cast, but when it is all said and done, it never really gets to say anything conclusive about the themes it opens up. Fraser could win the Oscar, and he would deserve it, but it’s quite clear why the film was only nominated for its two performances and make-up and hairstyling; because those are the only aspects of the film that really stick.

As always, the collection is all about simplicity, quality, and comfort, with a range of stylish yet functional pieces designed to fit seamlessly into any wardrobe.
One of the standout features of the new collection is its focus on sustainability. UNIQLO has long been committed to reducing its environmental impact, and this collection is no different. Many of the items in the collection are made using sustainable materials, such as recycled polyester and organic cotton.
The collection features an array of stylish and comfortable clothing pieces, all of which are designed with the brand’s core philosophy of simplicity, quality, and longevity in mind.
OUTERWEAR
UNIQLO has put together a lineup of more fashionable outerwear, outfitting apparel with functionality to comfortably navigate the changing of the seasons into spring and summer. This season, wearers can enjoy a wide range of outerwear that meet the needs of various scenarios in everyday life.
Utility Parka
Popular parka that is Classic casual outerwear, now has enhanced durability and added water resistant functionality. With a moderately dropped shoulder, length that covers the hips, and a hood that rises cleanly from the nape of the neck, this item is packed with details despite its casual feel. Available in basic olive, white and orange, yellow and, of course, black, the wearer can enjoy modern, colorful styling.
Coach Jacket
Waterproof processing has been applied to this relaxed fit coach jacket with a cotton-like matte expression. The simple design is effective for mixing and matching, and a moderately dropped shoulder gives a sophisticated impression. Since last year’s Spring/Summer collection, colors for this popular item have been expanded with three additional basic colors: natural, yellow and navy.
LINEN
With superlative breathability, absorbency, and durability, linen is a naturally highly functional fabric that can be worn for a long time. In addition to Premium Linen, which uses 100% high-quality linen, UNIQLO offers Linen Blend made by mixing different fabrics as part of its rich lineup of items recommended for basic everyday wear. Silhouettes and styles have been expanded this season, as well as fresh new color variations. Adapting to the skin the more it’s worn, UNIQLO’s lineup of linen items to enhance your appearance are sure to positively affect your quality of life.
Linen Blend Jacket & Wide Pants
Cool linen has been blended with rayon and polyester to create a beautiful jacket and pants with elegant draping. The double-breasted jacket is oversized, while the pants have been updated with a wide silhouette. Paired together these items give off a more refined impression.
Linen Blend Gather Camisole Dress
An airy cool empire dress that evokes feelings of a resort in midsummer. Rayon-cotton blended with linen creates a casual texture. In addition to basic colors, such vivid hues as fuschia pink and light blue also make the refined characteristic of linen stand out.
Premium Linen Long Sleeve Shirt
A standard long-sleeve shirt made of high-quality 100% European linen, a neat body and bagginess around the shoulder line create an exquisite balance. A refined French front achieves a simplicity that is effective for mixing and matching, and rich color variation that is complimented by the natural linen texture are highlights of this item.
BOTTOMS
Continuing the trend from Fall/Winter, this season wider silhouettes that are a little baggy have become mainstream. UNIQLO has increased its lineup of casual bottoms fit for Spring/Summer that will be the deciding factor of what looks fresh. Even causal items achieve a clean look when worn finding the right balance in an outfit. With summer in mind, besides pants there are also shorts with a sense of luxury for men, and for women a full-length voluminous skirt.
Pleated Wide Pants
This season you can expect to see more of the wide-fit tuck pants that were well received in Fall/Winter. For menswear, the pants have a gentle one-tuck around the waist, creating a somewhat tapered silhouette. For womenswear, the high-waisted two-tuck makes legs look long with a single clean line. These items also boast comfortable 2WAY Stretch that extends both lengthwise and crosswise, and easy care functionality.
Easy Cargo Pants
These cargo Pants feature workwear-inspired pockets and stitching and a moderately wide silhouette. The hem width can be adjusted to match the wearer’s tastes, and a slightly brushed cotton-nylon blend fabric creates a soft texture. This item is a good fit for genderless fashion.
Two Types of Utility Work Pants (Painter/Cargo)
Items with workpants details have been added to the lineup this spring. One item, Double Knee Painter Pants with knee pads, are somewhat loose, straight, and with a regular fit. Another is neatly wearable cargo pants in loosely tapered stretch cotton with a wide fit. The fabric and texture work together to evoke a rich expression.
JEANS
UNIQLO jeans have been making progress towards becoming items that are sought after by jeans enthusiasts. At the crux of that effort is the company’s Jeans Innovation Center (JIC) in Los Angeles. Through the pursuit of leading-edge technology and design, this R&D center outputs jeans boasting the highest quality and comfort. Handling everything from the development and selection of threads and fabrics to the finishing processes, the JIC is answering the needs of the wearer through its decisive manufacturing prowess. In addition to a broad range of cuts that reflect the mood of today’s wearer, including skinny, slim, and wide cuts, UNIQLO has created a lineup of jeans with superlative comfort and capacity for self-expression.
Boyfriend Tapered Jeans
The long-awaited arrival of boyfriend tapered jeans made of soft 100% cotton denim material, developed in partnership with Kaihara. A mid-rise and a relaxed fit that draws a moderately tapered line create the impression of a well put-together look.
Wide Fit Jeans
Jeans with cleanly executed, workwear inspired details that garnered popularity in the Fall/Winter season have been enhanced with a high rise. The slightly tight silhouette expands the styling options available.
Uniform Blue
The deep texture and beautiful color of indigo dye, silhouettes with a relaxed feel, and modern designs with roots in vintage workwear. The much talked about collection released in Spring/Summer 2022 as “a uniform for today” has been further polished and expanded for this year. Newly blended with linen, the softer and cooler summer denim fabric that easily adapts to everyday lifestyles is a must. While the range of the sizes available for men has been expanded, the designs are simple and genderless, so they can also be recommended for anyone.
Utility Denim Jacket (Cotton Linen)
This popular cover-all with larger pockets has the makings of vintage authentic workwear. The summer denim fabric, with a thinness achieved through a linen blend, can be enjoyed right up until early summer.
Denim Work Pants (Cotton Linen)
Just like the jacket, the cool linen blend makes these work pants comfortable. The pants feature such intricate details as a tool pocket with its roots in painter paints and a hammer loop, which add a touch of character. Pair with the jacket for a look with gravitas.
AIRism
This Spring/Summer season, incremental updates have been made to match the physical make-up and
idiosyncrasies of men and women. MENS items newly have deodorant functionality installed, while WOMENS items employ a silk blend for a highly fashionable tank top.
What’s more, the sustainability of AIRism fabric is a recent evolution that can’t be overlooked. AIRism, the functional fabric with a complex structure, can now be made with recycled materials that kinder to the environment. Going beyond simple innerwear, AIRism continues to evolve as a highly functional fabric that provides comfort 365 days a year as an indispensable part of LifeWear.
AIRism Tank Top (Silk Blend)
Introducing a lustrous ribbed tank top in a silk blend. The ribbed texture dispels the item image of innerwear. In addition to being easy to wear as a fashionable part of an outfit, breathability and improved dry functionality make sweat stains less noticeable in summer.
AIRism Bra Camisole
The classic cotton sheeting camisole has evolved since last spring to a design that is seamless at the chest and arm holes. Not only is it comfortable to wear, but the lines do not show through, making it easy to match with light clothing. This season, the care label has been newly printed on the fabric, making it even more comfortable to the touch.
AIRism Crew Neck
A classic cotton sheeting T-shirt that is loved as innerwear for all seasons. AIRism material uses polyester microfiber, turning the notion that “underwear is made of cotton” on its head. However, now UNIQLO has succeeded in adding recycled material made from collected PET bottles. The wearer can feel some peace of mind knowing they are wearing clothing made from more sustainable materials.
AIRism Anti Odor Mesh T-Shirt/Tank Top
This year, a reliable “strong deodorant” functionality has been added to this breathable mesh innerwear that is indispensable in the hot summer. Water absorption and drying functionality has increased by 1.5 times, greatly reducing discomfort caused by sweat. The neckline has also been updated with a seamless v-neck. It can be worn not only under a business shirt, but also as an inner layer under a T-shirt—the fact that it doesn’t show through clothes cannot be overlooked.
UV PROTECTION
Since its introduction in 2004, UNIQLO has continued to pursue both functionality and fashion of the UV protection wear, expanding the number of items employing the technology as it attracts more attention year by year. Technically, two technologies (UV reflection and absorption) are used, depending on the characteristics of the fabric, to create a material that blocks 90% of UV rays.
This season, a wide range of fashion items incorporate this UV protection functionality, and WOMENS shirts and dresses have also been added to the lineup. Available in a wide variety of colors, and it’s worth noting that even light colors that are said to let light through easily can be expected to have sufficient UV protection.
AIRism UV Protection Mesh Parka
Consider that if you continue to be exposed to UV rays every day, even for just 10 minutes while you hang your laundry, for example, the damage to your skin will be greater. This parka acts as a “wearable sunscreen” that can be put on in a second to protect against UV rays when you wouldn’t even expect you need to, whether you are eating or drinking on the terrace or taking a walk. This season, the item has a new deodorant function and can now be packed away so that it can be carried compactly. In addition to UV protection, it is made of breathable AIRism material, making it the ideal extra layer for Spring/Summer.
UV Protection Cardigan (Crew Neck/V Neck Long)
UNIQLO have introduced more variations of light and stylish cardigans with UV protection. The crew neck variation is available in jersey material as well as knit, and the V-neck is available in two types, normal length and long length. The Spring/Summer color pallet is also sure to excite wearers.
UV protection Shirt Dress & Shirt
UV protection functionality has not only been applied to items that can be worn open as a layer, but also to such outfit staples as shirts and dresses. The reassurance of being able to effortlessly block UV rays while being fashionable is part of the richness that LifeWear strives to offer.

How the Philippine jeepney plies its route (say, from Gasak to Divisoria and then back to Gasak) is called “balikan.”
The members of an artist group found this term fascinating. The word evokes a lot of emotions — the idea of going back, of remembering, of eventuality or inevitability and, most importantly, of giving back. Thus, 10 years ago, they chose the name “Vice Versa” for this band of artists with humanitarian concerns.
“Dun nagsimula sa ideya ng ‘balikan’ na pamamasada ng jeep — ‘yung vice versa. Nabuo din ang isa sa mga prinsipyo ng grupo na ‘Kung ano ang meron tayo ay ibahagi natin sa iba’ at ‘ang pagmamahal sa lipunan ay katumbas ng pagsisilbi sa Diyos.’”
That is precisely what the members of Vice Versa did: they went back to their roots, to the communities in need, gave back and gave their all.
“Nagkaroon kami ng ibat ibang programs involving pagbibigay ng talento ng libre — tulad ng mga art workshops, long-term art mentoring programs — pagbibigay ng mga art materials, at pagsulong ng mga art-for-a-cause initiatives para sa mga nangangailangan ng tulong sa kanilang medical expenses.”
They visited places such as SOS Children’s Village in Lipa, Batangas — a village dedicated to providing a loving and caring home for orphaned children. Vice Versa held a five-day art mentoring program with 21 student-participants. The group gave the children paints, brushes, easels, mixing palettes, and even refreshments during sessions.
As Vice Versa looks back on 10 years of creating “art with a heart,” the group mounts an exhibit titled “No Place Like Home” on view until Feb. 28 at Robinsons Land ARTablado in Robinsons Galleria. This is the group’s second exhibit at ARTablado; the first one was in 2021. “No Place Like Home features over 80 artworks from the Vice Versa Artists Group, along with Chroma Garcia and Silay Lipa art collectives.
The exhibition will feature a wide range of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and installations, all of which will explore the theme of “Home.” Visitors can expect to see a variety of perspectives on the subject, with artists exploring the idea of home as a physical space, a feeling, or a state of mind.
The participating artists are William Abao, Aimer Kayle Barba, Alexandra Monserrat, Anthony Escueta, Bernardo Oronos Jr., Carlos Alferez Castro, Christine Dato, Dhennis Sigua, Edward de Castro, Gab Villalobos, Gilbert Tugbo, Jamaica Tocayon, Jay Vincent Gatdula, Jayson Leona, Jeboy Roxas, Jed Hael, Jelly Kalaw, Jerson Enriquez, Jhon Lhoyd Escueta, Jonathan Jalac, Klein Tristan Losauro, Kristel Magparangalan, Maria Althea Munlawin, Medardo Olaco, Miranda Patrick, MJ Palma, Ramil Tumampos, Rico Tubar, Dodel Malaluan, Ron de Torres, Ruru Mataverde Jr., Vicson Apostol, Vince Martin Macatangay, YelCast, Yna Reyes, and Edward Padilla Jr., with the special participation of student-artists who have been part of the mentorship program.
Vice Versa will donate 40 percent of the total sales of the exhibition to SOS Children’s Village.“No Place Like Home” is a celebration of the group’s 10-year journey of helping orphaned artists, aiming to raise awareness as to the importance of providing a loving and nurturing environment for orphaned children — to help them achieve their dreams through art.
The members of Vice Versa chose ARTablado as its venue for this milestone show because of ARTablado’s openness and encouragement to artists from all walks of life, especially the aspiring ones who don’t have the resources or necessary connections to the mainstream art establishments.
“Napili ng grupo na dito mag-celebrate ng aming ika-10 taong anibersaryo dahil ang ARTablado ay isa sa kilala at malaking entablado ng sining na bukas sa malaking grupo na nagsisimula pa lamang. Malaki ang maitutulong nito lalo na sa mga grupong kagaya namin na ang hangad ay mapalago at buhayin ang sining ng ating bayan.”
Home is where the art is for the members of the Vice Versa Artists Group. And, no matter how long, winding and tempestuous their artistic route may be, it always leads to this uplifting, inspiring idea of home.
