‘Resident Evil’ Official Trailer Brings Zach Cregger’s Terrifying Reboot to PH Cinemas This September

Raccoon City is calling once again.

A new nightmare takes shape in the official trailer for Resident Evil, an original reimagining of the iconic horror franchise from Weapons and Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger.

This time, the story follows Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams, whose seemingly ordinary night quickly turns into a desperate fight for survival.

    Watch the official trailer here:

A Routine Delivery Turns Into a Nightmare

Bryan is simply trying to get through another shift when everything around him begins to unravel.

As the night grows more dangerous, he is pulled into a relentless race through a city consumed by chaos. Monstrous beings stalk the streets, danger closes in from every direction, and every decision could mean the difference between survival and a horrifying end.

    3 9

What begins as an uneventful delivery soon becomes a brutal test of instinct, endurance, and courage.

A Fresh Story Within the “Resident Evil” Universe

Written and directed by Zach Cregger, the upcoming film introduces an entirely new story while retaining the fear, tension, and survival-driven action associated with the Resident Evil franchise.

    RE 1

Rather than retelling familiar events, the film centers on a new character caught in a terrifying situation beyond his understanding. With Cregger behind the camera, audiences can expect a bold combination of atmospheric horror, frantic action, and shocking creature encounters.

The film also stars Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.

    Survive the Night This September

The trailer offers a chilling glimpse at Bryan’s descent into chaos as one horrifying night spirals out of control.

    RE 2

With no clear escape and terrifying threats around every corner, survival will require more than speed. Bryan must stay alert, keep moving, and somehow make it through the night alive.

Resident Evil opens in Philippine cinemas, including IMAX, on September 16, 2026.

  • Jessica Chastain Becomes Both Mother and Monster in “Other Mommy,” Opening in PH Cinemas October 7

Jessica Chastain Becomes Both Mother and Monster in “Other Mommy,” Opening in PH Cinemas October 7

A mother’s face is supposed to bring comfort. In “Other Mommy,” it becomes the face of something terrifying.

Jessica Chastain takes on a chilling dual role in the upcoming supernatural horror film, playing both Ursula, the mother of a young girl named Bela, and a sinister entity that has copied her appearance.

    3 8

Produced by James Wan and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, “Other Mommy” opens in Philippine cinemas on October 7.

A Familiar Face Hides a Dark Presence

At the center of the story is Bela, a young girl who begins interacting with a mysterious presence inside her home.

The entity calls itself Other Mommy.

Looking almost exactly like Ursula, it slowly builds a relationship with Bela while creating fear, confusion, and suspicion within the family. What first appears familiar soon becomes deeply unsettling, especially as the entity’s true intentions begin to surface.

    5 3

With the threat wearing the face of someone Bela trusts, separating love from danger becomes increasingly difficult.

Jessica Chastain Takes on Two Haunting Roles

Chastain portrays both Ursula and the supernatural being imitating her likeness.

Known for her performances in “Interstellar,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” and “It Chapter Two,” the multi-award-winning actress brings two strikingly different characters to life.

As Ursula, she plays a mother trying to protect her child from a threat that seems impossible to explain. As Other Mommy, she becomes the very source of that terror, turning a familiar voice, face, and presence into something sinister.

The result is a disturbing contrast between safety and fear, all embodied by the same actress.

Watch the first trailer for “Other Mommy” here:

Based on Josh Malerman’s Bestselling Novel

“Other Mommy” is based on Josh Malerman’s 2024 New York Times bestselling novel, “Incidents Around the House.”

Malerman is also the author of “Bird Box,” the acclaimed horror novel that inspired a popular screen adaptation.

Told from the perspective of a child, “Incidents Around the House” explores family, trust, and the terror of realizing that something dangerous may already be living inside the home.

    OtherMommy2

Its unsettling premise now comes to the big screen under the direction of Rob Savage.

A Strong Ensemble Enters Bela’s Nightmare

Joining Chastain in the film are Dichen Lachman of “Severance,” Arian Moayed of “Succession,” and Karen Allen of the “Indiana Jones” films.

Together, the cast brings Bela’s increasingly frightening world to life as the entity’s hold over the family grows stronger.

Behind the camera, producer James Wan lends his experience in modern horror to the project, while director Rob Savage brings the story’s childlike perspective and creeping dread to the screen.

    1 11

As Bela becomes more attached to Other Mommy, the danger inside the house becomes harder to ignore.

And when the monster looks exactly like your mother, who can you trust?

Don’t Be Fooled by Her Face

“Other Mommy” transforms the image of a loving parent into the center of a supernatural nightmare.

With Jessica Chastain playing both protector and threat, the film promises a tense and unsettling horror experience built around one frightening question: What if the person who looks like your mother is not your mother at all?

  • A Century in Focus Begins with Landscapes

A Century in Focus Begins with Landscapes

As the Camera Club of the Philippines (CCP) moves toward its landmark centennial celebration in 2028, it launches the journey with Landscapes (Your Land, Our Land), a photographic exhibition that highlights the profound connection between people and the places they inhabit. Now on display at the Antonio Gallery in Century City Mall, Makati, the exhibition serves as both a celebration of the natural world and a tribute to photography’s enduring role in preserving it.

    4 6

Established in 1928, the Camera Club of the Philippines is recognized as the country’s oldest photography society and one of the world’s longest continuously operating photography organizations. For almost a hundred years, its members have documented the Philippines through changing times, capturing its people, traditions, landscapes and communities while building an invaluable visual record of the nation’s story.

It is fitting that Landscapes opens the Club’s series of exhibitions leading to its centennial year. More than a thematic choice, it reflects the idea that every journey begins with a place. Your Land, Our Land provide the setting for everyday life, influence the way communities develop, and quietly stand as witnesses to history, culture and identity.

    3 7

Landscape photography has long been regarded as one of the foundations of the photographic craft. It demands patience, rewards careful observation, and teaches photographers to understand how light, weather, composition and timing work together to transform an ordinary scene into a compelling image. Beyond technical skill, it invites a deeper appreciation of the environments that surround us.

The exhibition brings together images that reveal the richness and diversity of the Philippine landscape. Sweeping mountain ranges, peaceful shorelines, expansive countryside and dynamic urban skylines are presented not simply as scenic destinations but as places filled with stories, memories and meaning. Each photograph offers a perspective on how landscapes continue to shape the lives of those who experience them.

    6 4

The exhibition also reflects the Camera Club’s long tradition of exploration and documentation. Through decades of photographic field trips and its renowned “On The Spot” competitions, members have traveled across the archipelago, recording the country’s changing geography and preserving significant moments through photography. Their work has contributed not only to the advancement of photographic artistry but also to the preservation of the Philippines’ visual heritage.

As it enters the final stretch toward its 100th anniversary, the Camera Club of the Philippines invites the public to rediscover the beauty and significance of the landscapes that surround us. Your Land, Our Land marks an appropriate beginning to the Club’s centennial celebration—one that honors the places that have inspired generations of photographers and continue to define the nation’s visual identity.

Landscapes Your Land, Our Land is currently on view at the Antonio Gallery, Century City Mall in Makati. For more information about the Camera Club of the Philippines and its centennial activities, call (63 2) 8894-2987, visit www.cameraclubph.com, or follow the Camera Club of the Philippines on Facebook.

Starbucks® Philippines Upgrades Rewards Program with Multi-Tiered Perks and a Brand New App

Your nest Starbucks run just got even better. Starbucks Philippines has rolled out a brand-new Starbucks PH App along with a refreshed Starbucks® Rewards program that gives members more flexibility over how they use their Stars. The update introduces a new Multi-Tiered Rewards system, letting customers redeem rewards from as little as 50 Stars instead of waiting to collect 100 Stars for a single reward.

Whether you’re craving a quick snack, planning your next coffee break, or saving up for a full meal, the new rewards program offers more choices to match every visit.

More Rewards, More Ways to Treat Yourself

The biggest change is simple: you now decide when and how to use your Stars.

Previously, every 100 Stars automatically became a reward voucher for a free handcrafted beverage, bakery item, or cake slice. With the new Multi-Tiered Rewards system, members can redeem Stars across different reward levels, giving them greater control over their Starbucks experience.

Here’s what your Stars can get you:

    Starbucks

    50 Stars
Perfect for a quick treat. Redeem your Stars for a free drink customization (excluding breve and 2 oz heavy cream) or enjoy select bakery favorites like a bagel, doughnut, or slice of banana loaf.

    100 Stars
Choose from a handcrafted beverage or a bakery item. This excludes Coffee Traveler Kits, French Press coffee, and Starbucks Reserve Ice Cream beverages.

    150 Stars
Ready for something more filling? Redeem your Stars for selected pastas, sandwiches, or a slice of cake.

    Starbucks new App

The result is a rewards system that feels more flexible, whether you’re stopping by for your morning coffee or settling in for lunch.

Meet the New Starbucks PH App

Alongside the updated rewards program comes the new Starbucks PH App, now available on the App Store and Google Play Store.

The redesigned app introduces features that make every visit more convenient, including faster sign-in and real-time Star tracking. Members can also redeem rewards directly in the app before placing their order at the counter, making the process quicker and more seamless.

    Starbucks

Current Members Can Switch Without the Hassle

Already a Starbucks Rewards member? There’s no need to worry about starting over.

When you log in to the new Starbucks PH App, your existing account credentials, stored card balance, and earned Stars automatically carry over. You’ll be able to continue earning and redeeming rewards without missing a beat.

Reward vouchers also continue to have a 90-day validity period. The difference now is that the countdown only begins once you choose to redeem your Stars, giving you more freedom to decide when to enjoy your reward.

Why This Matters for Starbucks Fans

Let’s be honest: no two coffee runs are ever quite the same. Some days, you just need your favorite coffee to survive a Monday morning meeting. Other days call for a full lunch break with a warm Roasted Chicken Pesto, Shiitake Mushroom and Emmental Cheese Flatbread, or a refreshing Strawberry Acai Lemonade to cool down in the afternoon. If you’re a regular at Starbucks, this update makes the loyalty program noticeably more rewarding.

Instead of waiting until you’ve earned 100 Stars, you can start redeeming sooner, save up for bigger treats, or choose rewards that fit what you’re craving that day. It also adds more flexibility for customers who visit Starbucks for more than just coffee, whether it’s a pastry during a busy afternoon or a hearty meal before heading back to work.

Combined with the upgraded mobile app, the experience feels more personalized and convenient for members across the Philippines.

Ready for your next Starbucks run?

The new app and multi-tiered rewards are already live in all Starbucks stores nationwide. Download or update the new Starbucks PH App today, check your current Star balance, and pick out your favorite reward before you head to the counter! Your next favorite reward might be closer than you think.

  • Cinemalaya 22 Opens and Closes With Powerful Portraits of Filipino Life

Cinemalaya 22 Opens and Closes With Powerful Portraits of Filipino Life

The 22nd Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival will open and close with two internationally recognized films that capture the complexity of Filipino lives.

Leading the festival is Enjoy Your Stay, a moving drama about a Filipina migrant worker determined to reunite with her daughter. Bringing the celebration to a close is Filipiñana, a gripping coming-of-age story set inside an exclusive country club where privilege, violence, and buried truths quietly collide.

Though different in tone and setting, both films place Filipino women at the heart of stories shaped by sacrifice, survival, and difficult choices.

Enjoy Your Stay Opens Cinemalaya 22

Directed by Dominik Locher and Honee Alipio, Enjoy Your Stay follows Luz, a Filipina who has spent years working as an undocumented cleaner in Switzerland.

Alongside her friend Aileen and other Filipina migrant workers, Luz lives under the constant threat of being discovered and deported. Every day is uncertain, yet she continues to endure the risks in the hope of securing a better future for her daughter in the Philippines.

Her life takes a dramatic turn when she sees her former husband appear on a Filipino reality television program with their six-year-old child.

Overwhelmed by fear and desperation, Luz makes a promise on live television. She vows to return home in time for her daughter’s birthday.

    Enjoy Your Stay

Keeping that promise, however, proves far more difficult than she expected.

With little savings and mounting debt, Luz is forced to search for ways to earn enough money before time runs out. As the pressure grows, she begins making choices that test her loyalty to her community and push her beyond her own moral limits.

At its core, Enjoy Your Stay examines the emotional and financial cost of migration. It also reflects the painful realities faced by overseas Filipino workers who leave their families behind in pursuit of stability.

Mercedes Cabral leads the cast as Luz. She is joined by Anna Luna, Hasmine Killip, Irma Adlawan, Donna Cariaga, and Madeleine Nicolas.

Co-produced by Close Up Films and JBA Production, the film had its world premiere in the Panorama section of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in Germany on February 14, 2026.

The film will be shown free to the public on August 6, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Red Carpet Cinemas 1 and 2 in Shangri-La Plaza.

Filipiñana Brings the Festival to a Close

Cinemalaya 22 will conclude with Filipiñana, directed by Rafael Manuel.

The film follows Isabel, played by Jorrybell Agoto, a teenage employee working at an exclusive country club. While navigating the routines of her job, she becomes fascinated by the club’s president, Dr. Palanca, portrayed by Teroy Guzman.

What begins as a seemingly innocent attraction soon leads Isabel toward troubling discoveries.

Behind the country club’s polished image and carefully maintained grounds lies a history shaped by control, violence, and silence. As Isabel uncovers more about the people around her, she begins to understand that her connection to Dr. Palanca is tied to something far darker than admiration.

    Filipinana

The film explores how institutions can hide abuse beneath respectability. It also examines class, authority, exploitation, and the ways power can influence memory and truth.

Filipiñana expands on Manuel’s acclaimed 2020 short film of the same title. The feature-length version had its world premiere in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in January.

As the official closing film of Cinemalaya 22, Filipiñana will be screened on August 16, 2026, at 8:30 p.m. at Red Carpet Cinemas 1 and 2 in Shangri-La Plaza.

Regular tickets are priced at ₱350, while student tickets are available for ₱250.

    Stories That Mirror Filipino Realities

This year’s festival carries the theme “Cinemalaya 22: Reel Reflections.”

Through Enjoy Your Stay and Filipiñana, the festival turns its attention to stories that reflect the lived experiences of Filipino women and the communities that shape them.

Luz’s journey reveals the sacrifices, isolation, and moral struggles that often come with migrant labor. Isabel’s story, meanwhile, exposes the hidden tensions between privilege and power inside a seemingly perfect institution.

Both films challenge audiences to look beyond appearances.

More importantly, they show how personal struggles are often connected to larger social realities, including poverty, migration, class inequality, gender, authority, and survival.

    Screening and Ticket Details

Tickets for the opening and closing film screenings will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis two hours before each scheduled screening.

For more information, visit the Cultural Center of the Philippines website at www.culturalcenter.gov.ph and the Cinemalaya website at www.cinemalaya.org.

Peter Parker Reconnects With MJ and Ned in the Final ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Trailer

Peter Parker faces one of his most emotional battles yet as MJ and Ned return to New York in the final trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” arriving in Philippine cinemas on July 29.

Four years have passed since Peter, played by Tom Holland, made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world. To protect everyone, he erased himself from the memories of every person who knew him, including the two people closest to him, MJ, played by Zendaya, and Ned, played by Jacob Batalon.

While Peter remained in New York and devoted himself to fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man, MJ and Ned attended the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After enjoying what they describe as the best years of their lives, the pair have graduated and moved back to New York.

Peter tries not to look at their social media posts too often. Still, with their return approaching, he cannot help checking in on them from afar.

“Peter has been telling himself that he’s let MJ and Ned go,” producer Amy Pascal says, “but he never has, and he’s checking on them all the time.”

A New Chapter for MJ and Ned

One of the filmmakers’ key goals was to move MJ and Ned forward in time. The story recognizes that several years have passed, with an opening montage following the characters through college and into early adulthood.

They remain the familiar personalities audiences have grown to love, but their experiences have clearly changed them. No longer teenagers navigating high school, MJ and Ned are now young adults shaped by independence, responsibility, and personal growth.

“This is a new chapter in MJ’s and Ned’s lives,” says Zendaya. “When they move back to New York, they must figure out how to become adults. That idea resonated with me because I remember when I was trying to figure out who I wanted to be in the world. It’s a pivotal time for MJ and Ned, as it is for most people.”

Batalon says it is difficult for Peter to accept that his former friends are entering adulthood without him.

“They’ve been inseparable all through school,” Batalon says. “Peter is undergoing a major transformation and MJ and Ned are oblivious; they’re living their lives with no recollection of the guy who had been with them every step of the way.”

According to Batalon, Peter is forced to fight back his emotions while deciding how to move forward alone.

“Peter is fighting back the emotions of seeing Ned and MJ, and he’s trying to decide how to move forward, alone. Most of all, Peter doesn’t want to re-engage with his friends because that’s part of his evolution as Spider-Man. Still, he must keep them safe, even if it’s from afar.”

Peter Parker on the Outside Looking In

Unable to reconnect with the people he loves, Peter buries himself in his responsibilities as Spider-Man.

“Peter is miserable about no longer being able to connect with them,” Holland says.

Living with MJ and Ned while figuring out adulthood together had always been one of Peter’s dreams. Now, he can only watch as they build new lives without him.

“But now he’s on the outside, looking in, and it’s torturous for Peter,” says director Destin Daniel Cretton. “He’s clearly yearning to be part of this but knows how dangerous it would be if he tried to trigger their memories.”

After all, no one can be completely safe while knowing Spider-Man’s true identity, especially MJ and Ned.

Can an Emotional Connection Survive Lost Memories?

The consequences of MJ and Ned’s memory loss became one of the biggest creative questions the filmmakers had to address.

“What happens if your memory is erased about someone you love deeply? That can happen in real life, of course, when a loved one suffers from dementia or Alzheimer’s.”

He explains that certain sounds, feelings, or experiences can sometimes awaken a sense of connection, even when specific memories are gone.

“But there are also so many instances of people with these kinds of memory loss who do experience something – it can be sparked by a piece of music or an unspecified feeling – that tells us that some kind of connection is still there. All this made the story’s more fantastical ideas feel relatable.”

Zendaya also believes that MJ and Ned may sense an unexplained absence in their lives.

“My suspicion is that MJ and Ned have a feeling that something in their lives is missing,” she shares. “I don’t think MJ knows exactly what’s missing, but she senses that things are not quite right.”

    Growing Up Means Growing Apart

The difficult transitions Peter, MJ, and Ned face as they move from student life into adulthood may also resonate with audiences.

“Relationships change when you leave high school or college and your school group,” says producer Kevin Feige. “For Peter Parker, it was a seismic change because everyone, including his closest friends, have forgotten him. It’s a journey for Peter that’s rich in emotion and pathos.”

Alongside Holland, Zendaya, and Batalon, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” also stars Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Mark Ruffalo.
