Set against a backdrop of change and uncertainty, Forgotten Island introduces audiences to Jo and Raissa—best friends since childhood who now stand at the edge of new beginnings. Voiced by global music icon H.E.R. and Filipino actress Liza Soberano, the pair is preparing to take separate paths after graduation.
But just as their lives begin to shift, an unexpected twist pulls them into something far more extraordinary. One mysterious night leads them through a portal—and into a world they once only heard about in stories.
Welcome to Nakali: Where Legends Live
Suddenly, Jo and Raissa find themselves in Nakali, a breathtaking island teeming with creatures from Filipino folklore. Vibrant yet unpredictable, this magical realm is filled with both wonder and danger, where every encounter brings them closer to understanding the island—and themselves.
Among the unforgettable characters they meet is Raww, a quirky weredog voiced by Dave Franco, whose clumsy charm adds humor to their journey. Yet not all beings are friendly. Lurking in the shadows is the feared Manananggal, brought to life by Tony Award® winner Lea Salonga, whose presence raises the stakes for everyone on the island.
The Price of Going Home
As Jo and Raissa search for a way back, they uncover a heartbreaking truth: returning home may cost them the very memories that define their friendship.
Faced with an impossible choice, the two must decide what truly matters—holding on to the past or finding the courage to move forward. With time slipping away, their bond becomes both their greatest strength and their most fragile vulnerability.
A Visionary Creative Team
Behind Forgotten Island is the acclaimed team of Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, with producer Mark Swift—all recognized for their work on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. I wasn’t entirely sure if I wanted a sequel to the enjoyable Ready or Not. Starring Samara Weaving and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the original was fun and brutal, and it just seemed like a pleasant, refreshing surprise when it came out during the relatively peaceful times (in comparison to today) before the pandemic. It was a wonderful “little” movie that ended with a punch that left everything to the wild imagination of the audience to play with in their heads. Why, then, do a sequel?
In this updated version, I can’t help but see similarities and parallelisms with these elite families and the real-world discourse surrounding the Epstein Files. The film doesn’t shy away from comparisons to how the rich rule the world – evidenced by a hilarious scene that establishes the Danforth’s control over media and global politics in an earlier scene – and how they own everything, down to the police.
Luckily, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett return alongside with screenwriters Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy to expand on the world and to really explore the cult that Samara Weaving’s Grace’s in-laws were a part of. To raise the stakes and to really get down into Grace’s character, the sequel introduces her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) along for the ride. The story picks up exactly where we left off in the first movie: the Le Domas mansion is on fire, and Grace is having a cigarette as the paramedics and police come to the rescue. However, her injuries send her into unconsciousness. She wakes up in a hospital, not a victim, but as a suspect for arson and murder. When her emergency contact, which is Faith arrives, it reopens old wounds. There is a palpable friction between them, a huge rift caused by unsaid words and broken promises. Yet, they don’t get to hash this out properly, as members of the Council, the cult the Le Domas family were part of, arrive to take Grace.
Once again, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come pits the ordinary folks against the elite class; the obscenely wealthy families who run the world and who can get away with anything. Due to a complex set of rules, which adds dark humor while giving Grace a sort of fighting chance. Grace and Faith must survive until dawn as representatives from the five of the six families (the Le Domas line are now gone) try to bring her down as a means to wrestle control for the seat of power. Leading this ruthless charge are Ursula and Titus Danforth (Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shawn Hatosy), the current titleholders for the seat of power.
Their vast wealth makes them inhuman, portrayed by their lack of respect for any other human being other than those of the family and their idiosyncrasies and individual indulgences. Strangely enough, they only abide by the Council’s rules because a supernatural force holds them at bay. They only respond to a higher power.
But the film is never political. It’s there in the imagery and in the drama of Grace and Faith, two orphans from the foster system, trying to stay alive as the elite hunt them down like sport. Instead, the film is centers on whether Grace and Faith can resolve their rift long enough to see the dawn. It is a film focused on brutal and bloody fight scenes, massive explosions, and darkly humorous takedowns. One hilarious fight scene between Grace and Francesca (Maia Jae), the daughter of a rival family and was the fiancee of the Le Domas son whom Grace married instead. Both dressed in wedding gowns – Grace wearing hers for practicality’s sake while Francesca wore hers as a symbol of her rage – they go at it in full force at an empty ballroom, using anything they can get their hands on, and with a handicap (I won’t spoil it here but it’s hilarious).
Samara Weaving is in fine form as Grace. Exhausted and frustrated, yet emboldened by her previous survival, she is unafraid to be brutal, delivering a performance with her entire body. She gives it enough seriousness to make the world believable, while simultaneously camps it up to match the film’s overall tone. Kathryn Newton serves as a great counterpoint to Weaving, allowing Faith to be completely overwhelmed by the proceedings but quickly matches her sister’s ferocity at a believable pace.
Meanwhile, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shawn Hatosy offer an interesting brother-sister dynamic. With Hatosy going full-on rich boy psychopath, while Gellar, as expected, finds a nuanced approach. Allowing Ursula a little more texture and layers that makes her interesting, even if the script never digs too deep into it. Gellar truly makes fantastic work of the limited material she’s been given.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come doesn’t necessarily do anything different from the first movie; instead, it expands the world, makes the enemies tougher and crazier, and provides Grace someone who brings out more of her character. The film is hard rebuke of a world where billionaires can get away with anything and everything, yet it does it by having a lot of bloody, brutal violent fun in the process. It is a riotous survival story that remains funny all the way.
My Rating: 3.5 Stars

Chris Pratt Reflects on Mario’s Heroic Spirit
For Chris Pratt, stepping back into Mario’s role was an exciting opportunity to bring the beloved character’s determination and optimism to life once again.
Pratt believes Mario’s true strength lies in his unwavering belief in himself and the people he loves.
“He is a little guy, but he never gives up,” Pratt says. “He is unstoppable because he believes in himself. He is not boastful; he just shows up for the people he cares about. I love his relationships with his brother, his family and with Peach. No challenge is too big for him, and that is what makes him heroic.”
The film’s strong focus on brotherhood also resonated deeply with Pratt, who grew up playing the games alongside his own sibling.
“My brother and I grew up playing the Super Mario games together,” Pratt says. “The film captures something true about having siblings. You know each other your whole life. You go through everything together. Some relationships are fleeting, but siblings are for life. It means a lot to be able to bring that to the screen. When we were kids, my brother always got to play as Mario. Now I finally get my turn.”
Charlie Day on Luigi’s Courage and Charm
Charlie Day was equally excited to revisit Luigi, a character known for balancing fear with loyalty and bravery.
“Luigi has that underdog sensibility,” Day says. “With Mario, you get the classic hero who runs toward danger to save the day. With Luigi, you have the guy who says, ‘I want to save the day, but I also do not want to get hurt,’ and I think that makes him relatable.”
Despite his hesitation, Luigi’s devotion to his brother drives him forward.
“His innocence is something you root for, because he loves his brother enough to follow him anywhere.”
The actor also reflected on the emotional connection many fans have with the Mario universe.
“I have a son who is fourteen now, and watching this movie, I became emotional remembering how much joy these games gave me as a kid,” Day says. “I would play with my sister and my friends, and we would get lost in this world. Both through the movie and through watching my son discover gaming on his own brings me back to that time. That is the power of this world.”

Mystery gets a wonderfully woolly spin in “The Sheep Detectives,” an upcoming comedy mystery featuring an impressive ensemble led by Hugh Jackman. Joining him are Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, and Molly Gordon, with Hong Chau and Emma Thompson, alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, and Rhys Darby.
Playful and inventive, the film presents a charming premise: a flock of sheep that quietly learns the art of deduction from nightly detective stories. When an unexpected incident disrupts their peaceful farm life, the unlikely group decides it’s time to apply everything they’ve learned.
The Shepherd Who Loves a Good Mystery
At the center of the story is George (Hugh Jackman), a gentle shepherd who has a comforting habit. Each evening, he reads classic detective novels to his flock before bedtime. For George, it’s simply a relaxing routine.
What he doesn’t realize, however, is that the sheep are paying very close attention.
Word by word, clue by clue, they absorb the lessons from every mystery tale he shares. Over time, the flock develops a surprisingly sharp sense of observation and deduction.
When the Sheep Become the Detectives
Life on the farm changes when a mysterious incident suddenly shakes their quiet routine. With their shepherd unaware of their secret intelligence, the sheep quietly step forward to investigate.
Using the knowledge they’ve gathered from countless detective stories, the flock begins examining clues, observing suspicious behavior, and considering possible suspects among the humans around them.
The result is a lighthearted whodunit filled with humor, charm, and plenty of clever moments. After all, even the most underestimated investigators might hold the key to solving the case.

What if every floor of a building represented a different circle of Hell? That chilling idea fuels the blood-soaked horror-action-comedy “They Will Kill You,” arriving exclusively in cinemas March 25, 2026.
Directed and co-written by Kirill Sokolov, the film traps audiences inside The Virgil, a mysterious nine-floor building that becomes the setting for a relentless night of survival. At the center of the chaos is a young woman played by Zazie Beetz, who must fight her way through a demonic cult’s twisted lair before she becomes their next offering.
Joining Beetz in the cast are Myha’La, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette, forming an ensemble that fuels the film’s dark humor and brutal action.
The Virgil: A Deadly Building With Layers of Hell
At the heart of the film lies The Virgil, a seemingly luxurious condo complex hiding unspeakable horrors behind its walls.
“Our production designer is a mad genius,” Sokolov says of Jeremy Reed, who helped craft the building’s unsettling environment.
Because much of the story unfolds indoors, the creative team had to transform the structure into something visually thrilling.
“The movie mostly is inside of this Virgil building, so it’s all interior,” continues Sokolov. “Making an interior movie, you understand that people can get tired of staring at four walls, and you have to be very clever and creative in a way to make people excited – how to show the same sets differently, how to extend this world, even not leaving the place.”
The solution came from classic literature.
“The Virgil is a nine-floor building, because we used Dante’s ‘Inferno’ as inspiration, where every floor is literally a different circle of hell. That gave us this idea of how we dress the floors, what kind of theme belongs to each floor, what is actually happening on that floor. So, we used this structure to develop the visual style and design of the place.”
The concept allows the building to evolve visually and thematically as the story progresses—turning the structure itself into a character.
A Condo From Hell in the Middle of the City
Originally, the building was imagined as a remote and ominous tower. However, co-writer Alex Litvak says the team quickly realized a different approach would be even more disturbing.
Instead of isolation, they placed The Virgil right in the heart of the city.
“But we quickly pivoted and landed on the idea of an exclusive condo complex in the heart of the city – a seemingly welcoming Rosemary’s Baby-style community most would kill [or die] to live in. That helped fuel some of the film’s themes: class, disposable people, the struggle to belong, to find a home, and the cost that comes with it. We also played with the idea that each floor represents a level of Hell. At one point the metaphor was more explicit, but we felt the building was starting to overshadow the characters, so we dialed that back.”
The shift opened the door to deeper themes.
Beneath the horror, the film explores class, belonging, and the cost of finding a home. The metaphor of Hell remained part of the concept, but the filmmakers eventually softened the symbolism so the characters could stay front and center.
Still, Litvak hints that the terrifying idea might extend far beyond this one building.
“we think we’re only scratching the surface with the Virgil – and there may be more places like it all over the world…”
Watch the Trailer Here:
Escalating Action Across Every Floor
As the story climbs higher through The Virgil, the action grows increasingly wild.
Sokolov designed each level to deliver a new style of combat and spectacle.
“As we move from floor to floor, the world changes, the circles of hell changes, so the vibe of the fights and the choreography also will be different.”
The progression starts with grounded fights before exploding into larger, more stylized sequences.
We start with very grounded and naturalistic fights, a little bit exaggerated. Then we go into some kind of Viking shit with epic scale and much more graphic. Then we go full anime, crazy kung fu type of fighting. They sound different, they look different and they feel different and, I hope, bigger and bigger and bigger and more and more exciting.
The goal: make each level bigger, louder, and more exhilarating than the last.
Horror Masters Behind the Madness
The project gained extra momentum thanks to its producers: Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, the creative force behind modern horror hits “It,” “It Chapter Two,” and “Mama.”
For Litvak, their involvement felt like the perfect match.
“When we took the script to market, we were fortunate to have two competing buyers. For us, the goal wasn’t just to sell the script – it was to make the movie without losing the unconventional style and the inspired madness we had baked into the pages. The moment we met Andy and Barbara, it was clear we weren’t dealing with producers so much as fellow artists who immediately understood what we were trying to do. They believed in the tone of the film and supported our mission from the start. That ultimately made the choice to go with them a no-brainer, and it turned out to be the best decision we could have made.”
Their support ensured the filmmakers could preserve the script’s wild imagination and dark humor from page to screen.
