Steven Spielberg returns to the sci-fi genre with Disclosure Day, a suspense-filled new film starring Academy Award nominee Emily Blunt and Emmy winner Josh O’Connor. Opening in Philippine cinemas on June 10, the film explores a world on the edge after shocking evidence confirms the existence of extraterrestrial life.

A Race Against the Truth
At the center of the story is Margaret Fairchild, played by Blunt, a Kansas City weather reporter whose quiet career suddenly collides with secrets powerful enough to alter humanity forever. Alongside her is Dr. Daniel Kellner, portrayed by O’Connor, a gifted cybersecurity specialist working for the mysterious agency known as WARDEX.

Hidden deep within the military-industrial system, WARDEX is responsible for suppressing all evidence connected to alien encounters on Earth. But as Margaret and Daniel uncover dangerous truths, they find themselves pulled into a conspiracy far greater than they ever imagined.
Screenwriter David Koepp reveals that Spielberg wanted every character to feel authentic and emotionally layered.
“Steven was very insistent on making our heroes and all the characters as rich and complex as possible,” Koepp says. “He was always asking: ‘Who are these people? Let’s find the details and bits of behavior that can express a very specific character, not just a functional archetype.’”

Koepp adds that the film’s emotional depth makes the mystery even more compelling.
“Characters who have secrets are great fun to write and fun for the audience. They keep you leaning forward to find out what those secrets are. Even better is a character who is a mystery to themselves, because that is a compelling problem to have.”
Emily Blunt Learns New Languages for the Role
Margaret’s search for meaningful journalism soon transforms into a fight for survival as powerful groups attempt to silence her discoveries. The role demanded extensive preparation from Blunt, who learned both Korean and Russian for the film.
She also collaborated closely with Spielberg to create a unique language used for communication with non-human lifeforms, adding another fascinating layer to the movie’s world-building.

Josh O’Connor Joins Spielberg’s Sci-Fi Vision
O’Connor’s Daniel Kellner is a brilliant but troubled cybersecurity expert with a criminal past. Though recruited by WARDEX as a consultant, Daniel ultimately questions the agency’s motives and risks everything to expose the truth.
The actor recalls immediately saying yes when Spielberg invited him to discuss the project.
“I was finishing up press for Challengers when my agent called and asked: ‘What are you doing tomorrow? Might you be free for a meeting?’ I was like: ‘Absolutely not, I need a break.’ They said: ‘It’s Steven Spielberg.’ I was like, ‘Yep, I’m free,’” O’Connor recalls with humor.”
The actor was especially drawn to the dynamic between the two lead characters.
“I was intrigued by the Margaret-Daniel relationship: they are two very different people who do not know each other at all, but there is something bringing them together, something that addresses deep needs they may not recognize, something that benefits everyone. I was instantly hooked and could not wait to read what he and David were putting on the page.”
