Customers are in for a whole new Japanese dining experience at Go Bento. Sporting a fresh look, it re-opened this February after months of renovation in its original location at The Spa Building in Bonifacio High Street, BGC. This fast casual 90-seater restaurant offers delicious and authentic Japanese food served mostly in bento boxes with a more vibrant, “Tokyo-Metro” vibe.
“When we were planning on how to redesign Go Bento, I explored Japan to study Japanese restaurants and discovered that they either imbibe a traditional restaurant concept or focus on the J-Pop, Manga genre,” said Scott Tan, the managing Director of Scottland Food Group, Inc., the same company that successfully launched Bonchon in the Philippines.
“One day, I was in a Tokyo train station and I realized that our Go Bento concept would work well with a metro train station vibe,” Tan explained. This prompted him to adapt the feel of Tokyo’s train station – the red tiles, the signages, the railings and other design aspects as the main features of the restaurant. “This blueprint goes well with our bento boxes, bentos being a huge part of Japanese people’s culture and heritage, just as train stations are. “They are imbedded in the culinary DNA of the working people. They grab a bento box before going to work, on their way home and anytime they want to eat a quick and complete meal. I really wanted to create that feeling and the value that Japanese people have when it comes to their food.”
Thus, once customers step into Go Bento, especially those who have been to Japan, they would sense the perfect synergy between the interiors and the dishes.
What’s in the box?
Bento boxes are a cultural icon of Japanese food. Go Bento takes this much-loved way of serving dishes to the Philippines that offer much in terms of value.
If you are a Go Bento newbie, the Bento boxes (with miso soup, vegetables and a drink) are a must-try. Choose from these sets- Beef Misono, Chicken/Pork Katsu, Tempura, Chicken Teriyaki, Yakitori, Ebi Katsu, Karaage, and Chicken/Pork Katsu Curry. Then there’s the one-piece and two-piece Chicken Bento and Salmon Teriyaki.
Customize your meals and go big with the Big Bento which consists of two mains, miso soup, a side dish, veggies and Japanese rice. Start by choosing your first main (Beef Misono, Chicken or Pork Katsu, Karaage or Mixed Tempura); your second main (Beef Misono, Chicken Teriyaki, or Chicken Yakitori) and your side dish (Gyoza or California Maki) . Now, you’re all set to post your personalized #BOTD (Bento of the Day) and enjoy.
The selections don’t end there as Go Bento boasts of their Donburi as well (Oyakodon, Yakitoridon, Gyudon,, Ebi Katsudonand Beef Misono). A la carte dishes include crowd favorites- Umami Fried Chicken, Karaage-style Chicken, Chicken or Pork Tonkotsu, Spicy Karaage Ramen and Sukiyaki. Other items worth trying are Chicken Mango Salad, Japanese Hambagu, Potato Takoyaki and Matcha Soft Serve. Go Bento also has Party Platters to Go.
“Quality and authenticity are important to us. That’s why we attach a lot of importance on small things. Customers are more discerning now. For example, we want our shrimp to have the perfect texture, we use fresh breading for our katsu and I insist on serving only Japanese rice. We found the sweet spot between very good quality and price so that our food remains value for money. We want that our bento box to be at par with Japanese casual dining restaurants, but always at pocket-friendly prices,” Tan explained.
In leading and in growing Go Bento, he draws from his years of experience with Bonchon, his first food venture, and from listening to the pulse of his customers.
“While we saw the local market’s growing love for authentic Japanese food at great value, there were not too many Japanese restaurants offering these. We adjusted and tailored-fit Go Bento’s concept to make them of high-quality, complete and affordable,” he expounded.
On the right track
After spending 10 years in the USA working in finance, Tan came home to pursue his love for food. “I particularly love Korean and Japanese cuisines because of their umami flavor- the amazing balance of sweet, spicy, salty,” he shared.
Go Bento is ready to expand their footprint in the Philippines with plans to open 10 company-operated branches in Metro Manila this year. Franchising is in the drawing board and will be launched at the appropriate time.
As he works closely with the company’s R&D, Tan brings to Go Bento his passion for food and his personal mantra, “If I don’t eat it, I won’t serve it. I serve only what I love to eat”.
Rediscover a new and more enjoyable dining experience at Go Bento, anchored on authentic and value for money Japanese food amidst a Japanese train station flair.
Kathryn Bernardo shows no signs of slowing down. The beloved actress has been on almost every Filipino’s screens since she was a young girl. Now, she has a long list of successful teleseryes and blockbuster hits under her belt. She also started her own business and delved into other projects in between.
Actress Kathryn Bernardo’s go-to coffee is Great Taste White, a brand that she grew up with. She loves how this coffee mix has the right amount of everything – tamang tapang ng kape, tamang tamis, and tamang creaminess
Kathryn has been active in the industry for over 20 years, but she’s still so excited about trying new things, both in her work and personal life. Last year, she starred in A Very Good Girl, a movie which she earned many praises for because of her remarkable performance.
This year, Kathryn has a lot of plans. One of them is taking the role of Great Taste White’s newest celebrity endorser. “I’m excited for 2024. [I’m excited] for my new family, new beginnings, and my new partnership with Great Taste White,” she says.
Having the right balance
Kathryn is just like many of us: she always starts her day with a good cup of coffee to give her the “pampagana” she needs, especially during early shoots. Great Taste White allows her to get that “tamang timpla” caffeine fix at home or on set.

Kathryn prefers to have a “tamang” balance not just in her coffee, but also in her lifestyle. She believes in the value of having work-life balance. She tries to achieve this by setting boundaries between being an actress and being a normal person. “I always remind myself, ‘You have to be a normal person as well. Hindi ka artista every day,’” Kathryn says. “It’s about knowing your limitations – ‘di sosobra, ‘di din magkukuluang. Mahirap siya, pero surrounding yourself with the right people can help pag na-overwhelm ka sa lahat ng nangyayari.”The actress also plans on continuing honing her tennis and dance skills, and taking swimming and scuba diving lessons seriously this year. Despite having a busy schedule, she’s determined to find time for her new hobbies.
Kathryn considers her close friends and family, and hobbies as her “pampagana.” They motivate her to do well and be the best version of herself in everything she does. It’s safe to say that she’s found the right blend to keep her going.
Growing with Great Taste White
From a child actress to becoming a versatile performer, Kathryn can be proof that people can evolve and strive to be better. Now, she’s looking forward to continue growing with Great Taste White, a staple brand in her home because of its “tamang timpla” coffee mix.
“Great Taste White is a brand I grew up with and I never thought that I would be part of this family,” Kathryn says. “Kilalang kilala ko ‘yung brand. Sa bahay, ‘yan din ‘yung iniinom namin lahat.”

Love transcends borders especially when two share the same passion. The same is true for Japan’s most-loved almond milk brand, Glico’s Almond Koka and award-winning Filipino tree-to-bar chocolate brand Auro Chocolate – who both share the same passion for championing culinary diversity. That’s when love blooms.
This Valentine’s season, the two teamed up to create ORINASU CAFÉ, a special pop-up cafe that marries together Japanese and Filipino cultures through lovingly handcrafted drinks and treats. Located at MITSUKOSHI BGC, ORINASU CAFÉ will add more sweetness to the season from February 1 to February 19, 2024.
Japan’s No. 1 and the Philippines’ Finest
From the makers of the globally loved brand, Pocky, Glico’s Almond Koka is Japan’s best-selling almond milk brand, known for its superior quality taste–all thanks to the company’s relentless pursuit of quality and Japanese technology. Yet another signature work of Glico’s finesse at blending great taste with nutrition, Almond Koka offers a richer and stronger nutty flavor because of the emulsifying method of adding honey and almond oil to ground almond paste.
Collaborating with Japan’s Almond Koka is the Philippines’ premier chocolate brand, Auro Chocolate. The chocolate company carved its path to the global chocolate scene by earning prestigious awards at esteemed international chocolate competitions. For this new concept, Auro Chocolate prides itself in working with MITSUKOSHI FRESH in selecting only the finest Japanese ingredients – such as Matcha, Hojicha and Miso – to be used in crafting the menu. And in line with Auro’s meticulous, innovative, and time-tested know-how, this collaboration with Almond Koka brings out the best in Filipino & Japanese epicurean cultures.
ORINASU CAFÉ
Japanese for ‘weave’, ORINASU is exactly what the pop-up cafe symbolizes: the weaving of two cultures through the harmonious fusion of Almond Koka’s and Auro’s product versatility–as seen with the cafe’s limited-edition line of “Choc Au Lait” vegan-friendly drinks and snacks.
Gracing the menu is the fascinating drink that is the Miso Salted Caramel! This luscious vegan-friendly white chocolate drink combined with Maruhide’s top-quality Miso, Auro’s Salted Caramel and Almond Koka – our take on Salted Caramel with a Japanese Twist. Served with a generous heap of White Chocolate shavings.
Hojicha is just pure bliss in a cup. Enjoy the comforting flavors of Auro’s creamy white chocolate, infused with Ikeda Senchado’s top-quality Hojicha, complemented by the richness of Almond Koka.
If you haven’t found “the one” yet, maybe the next drink could be your perfect matcha. ORINASU’s vegan-friendly white chocolate matcha hits the spot with its perfect balance of sweet and earthy. The Ikeda Senchado matcha creation provides that familiar grassy notes, blended with a sweet, velvety finish from Almond Koka.
If you’re looking for something bold, then you’ll surely love the luscious Dark Choc. This drink is incredibly rich yet smooth because of the combined decadence of Auro Dark Chocolate and Almond Koka.
Completing the menu is the Dark Chocolate Stuffed with Strawberries French Toast. Each bite is a delightful burst of Auro dark chocolate filling, tarty strawberry jam with the goodness of Almond Koka.
