The wait is almost over.

By November, Bread Ahead – the renowned British artisan bakery and baking school founded in London’s iconic Borough Market in 2013 – will officially open its first bakery in the Philippines at Glorietta 4, Ayala Center, Makati City, in partnership with Good Eats by SSI.

The opening brings Bread Ahead’s celebrated sourdough pizzas, legendary filled doughnuts and artisan baking expertise to Filipino customers for the very first time.

Worth getting ahead for.

For more than a decade, Bread Ahead has built a devoted following in London, attracting food lovers, tourists and loyal regulars who queue for its signature sourdough, famous filled doughnuts and artisan bakery creations.

Born in Borough Market – one of London’s most iconic food destinations – Bread Ahead has become a must-visit stop for food lovers from around the world. Fans have even been known to head straight from the airport for a taste of its viral Crème Brûlée Doughnut.

For years, Filipinos visiting London have made Bread Ahead a must visit stop when visiting London.

A SLICE OF BOROUGH MARKET IN MANILA

The arrival of Bread Ahead marks far more than the opening of a new bakery. It brings a genuine slice of London’s vibrant food culture to the Philippines, with the recipes, craftsmanship and bakery theatre that have made the brand internationally renowned.

Designed as a complete Bread Ahead bakery and dining destination, the flagship Manila location will feature a full artisan bakery alongside a 150-seat restaurant serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and light dinner, with table service throughout the day.

At the heart of the experience are Bread Ahead’s signature slow-fermented sourdough breads and pizzas, and filled doughnuts, crafted by bakers trained in authentic Bread Ahead methods and following the same standards and techniques used in London. From artisan breads and focaccia to cakes, pastries and sweet treats, Bread Ahead Manila will offer a wide selection of the bakery’s best-loved creations from opening day.

THE DOUGHNUTS MANILA HAS BEEN WAITING FOR

Doughnuts

No visit to Bread Ahead would be complete without its legendary filled doughnuts.

Leading the Manila line-up is Bread Ahead’s iconic Crème Brûlée Doughnut, generously filled with custard and finished with its signature caramelised top—a cult favourite that keeps customers lining up for a taste.

Manila customers can also look forward to favourites including Sea Salted Caramel with Honeycomb, Pistachio, Raspberry and Lemon Curd, among others.

And in a special nod to its new home, Bread Ahead will introduce an exclusive Ube Doughnut, created specifically for the Philippine market – bringing the bakery’s signature craftsmanship together with one of the country’s most beloved flavours.

SOURDOUGH BREADS AND PIZZAS AT THE HEART OF BREAD AHEAD

Sourdough Breads

Bread Ahead’s sourdough is equally synonymous with the brand.

Baked fresh daily using traditional artisan techniques and long fermentation methods, its signature loaves have earned a loyal following among home bakers, chefs and bread lovers alike.

During the pandemic, Bread Ahead founder Matthew Jones brought the craft of baking into homes around the world through free online baking tutorials, including sourdough lessons that attracted a global audience and helped aspiring bakers master the fundamentals of artisan bread-making from their own kitchens.

Now, Manila customers will be able to enjoy the same sourdough craftsmanship that has helped establish Bread Ahead as one of London’s most recognised artisan bakery names.

And the Bread Ahead experience in the Philippines will not stop at the bakery counter.

By early 2027, the brand plans to open a dedicated Bread Ahead Baking School, giving aspiring bakers, home cooks and food enthusiasts the opportunity to learn Bread Ahead techniques firsthand through expert-led classes and workshops.

FROM LONDON TO MANILA

Matthew Jones, Founder of Bread Ahead, said:

“Since opening in Borough Market in 2013, we’ve welcomed customers from every corner of the world, including many visitors from the Philippines, so it feels incredibly special to bring Bread Ahead to Manila.

“What people experience at Bread Ahead is more than great baking. It’s the smell of fresh bread coming out of the oven, watching doughnuts being filled by hand, and joining a queue because you know what’s waiting at the front is worth it. We’re proud to be bringing that same experience, energy and passion from Borough Market to Manila.”

Anton Huang, President of SSI Group, added:

“Bread Ahead’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship and creating memorable food experiences closely aligns with what we stand for at Good Eats. We are always looking to bring thoughtfully curated concepts that offer something distinctive to the Filipino dining experience. With Bread Ahead, we’re excited to introduce a much-loved London bakery and share the craftsmanship, freshness and simple joy of great food that have defined the brand.”

With fresh bread coming out of the ovens throughout the day, doughnuts filled and finished before guests’ eyes, and a restaurant designed for everything from breakfast meetings to leisurely weekend brunches, Bread Ahead Manila brings together the flavour, craftsmanship and energy that have made the bakery a London favourite.

London has loved Bread Ahead for more than a decade. This November, it’s Manila’s turn.
