  • Make-A-Wish® Partners with GMG Productions’ “Come From Away” to Support Children with Critical Illnesses

Make-A-Wish® Partners with GMG Productions’ “Come From Away” to Support Children with Critical Illnesses

Nonprofit organization Make-A-Wish® Philippines has partnered with GMG Productions for a special fundraising performance that aims to grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Through a local production of the award-winning Broadway musical, “Come From Away,” the partnership aims to bring a lifetime of hope to children in need with this special night of entertainment.

    MAWPH Photo 1

Based on real events, “Come From Away” is set in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, where 38 planes carrying 7,000 passengers were grounded right after the September 11 attacks. Despite growing tension in the country, the local townsfolk offered their homes and hospitality to the stranded strangers, welcoming them as neighbors in their time of need.

In real life, one of the grounded planes was a Make-A-Wish flight, carrying children with critical illnesses and their families on the way to Disney World, Florida. Due to the postponement of the much-anticipated trip, the town came together to throw a party for the children, complete with mascots, music, cakes and clowns. This is just one of many stories from Gander that inspired the musical, showing how kindness can help change people’s lives.

Under the direction of Michael Williams, “Come From Away” has been adapted to a local audience, celebrating the power of community and generosity. And with its upcoming staging on June 27 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati, limited tickets will be available for the VIP section, with proceeds going towards bringing hope, strength and joy to the children who need it most.

“We are happy to partner with GMG Productions for this acclaimed musical, and to share the same values of kindness and generosity as the story that people will see on stage. Like the town of Gander, Newfoundland coming together to help strangers, we also believe in the power of community and wishes to help change the lives of our beneficiaries,” shared Ms. Aleah Ortiz, Executive Director of Make-A-Wish® Philippines.

    MAWPH Photo 2

In its 25th year of making wishes come true, Make-A-Wish® Philippines continues to be a beacon of hope to children with critical illnesses. On the road to achieving its goal of making 525 wishes come true this year, the foundation recently granted the wishes of Kiv (5, diagnosed with a Neuroectodermal Intraabdominal Tumor) and Betsy (13, living with neuroblastoma) to meet SB19. Make-A-Wish® Philippines has also partnered with COMCO Mundo League of Enterprises to amplify its message of hope for its 25th anniversary celebration, inviting donors, volunteers and partners to support this important milestone.Become a Wishmaker and secure your spot at the Make-A-Wish VIP section of “Come From Away” this June 27 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati. Tickets are available at wishes.ph, where you can learn more about how you can help transform lives, one wish at a time.

  • CCP upholds diversity and gender equality with a façade lighting this Pride Month

CCP upholds diversity and gender equality with a façade lighting this Pride Month

This June, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) lights up not just its iconic façade—but also the hearts of many—as it joins the global celebration of Pride Month with a breathtaking display of color, light, and meaning.

Pride Month Facade Lighting Photo by Orly Daquipil 1

Starting June 25, the CCP Main Building transforms into a luminous canvas awash in the vibrant hues of the rainbow flag—an enduring symbol of pride, unity, and love. But it’s more than just a splash of color. This year’s lighting spectacle features a striking interplay of rainbow illumination and GOBO projections, creating patterns inspired by human fingerprints—each one unique, just like every person in the LGBTQIA+ community.

The powerful concept, developed by the CCP Production Design and Technical Services Division, draws a bold parallel between individuality and identity. “No two fingerprints are the same—and neither are our stories,” the team shares, emphasizing the personal yet universal journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and visibility that many in the LGBTQIA+ community face.

    Pride Month Facade Lighting 5

More than just a dazzling light show, the installation stands as a visual manifesto of the CCP’s unwavering commitment to artistic freedom, inclusivity, and representation. Through the years, the CCP has been a strong advocate for gender equality and safe spaces, using art as a catalyst for conversation, compassion, and change.

“This fingerprint motif is a symbol of authenticity and strength,” says CCP Artistic Director Dennis N. Marasigan, who also chairs the CCP Gender and Development Committee. “It reminds us that in our diversity lies our power, and that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and respected.”

The installation is made possible through the dedicated efforts of CCP’s technical team, led by concept designer Jericho A. Pagana, and brought to life by the skilled Gobo Team: Shantie De Roca, Mary Grace Budol, Lucio Tapiru, John Mar Dumayas, and Alex Pineda.

Step into this radiant tribute to individuality and pride. The façade lighting runs from 6 PM to 10 PM, June 25 to 30—a weeklong celebration of resilience, equality, and the beautiful spectrum of humanity.

  • Repertory Philippines opens limited run of Yasmina Reza’s Tony & Olivier award-winning comedy ‘ART’

Repertory Philippines opens limited run of Yasmina Reza’s Tony & Olivier award-winning comedy ‘ART’

Repertory Philippines (REP) has raised the curtain on Yasmina Reza’s Olivier & Tony award-winning comedy, ART, with a translation by Christopher Hampton and directed by Victor Lirio. The 88th season’s play will have a limited run only until June 29, with performances scheduled on Friday and Saturday at 8PM, and matinee performances on Sunday at 3:30PM at REP Eastwood Theater in Quezon City.

    01 1

REP’s production of ART is comprised of New York, London, and Manila-based creatives. The international cast features London-based Filipino-British actor Martin Sarreal, who appeared in Season 3 of the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton; award-winning Manila-based actor Brian Sy, who was recently seen in The Sandbox Collective’s Tiny Beautiful Things and in Company of Actors in Streamlined Theatre (CAST) PH’s Othello as Cassio; and British stage, film, and television actor Freddy Sawyer, a Bristol Old Vic alum and who appeared in Apple TV’s hit series, Trying.

Directed by Victor Lirio, ART’s creative and production teams include Miguel Urbino (scenic and costume design), Miriam Crowe(lighting design), Fabian Obispo (original music and sound design), Maisie Carter (fight director), Zoe Littleton (voice coach), Uriel Villar (assistant director), Julia Pacificador (associate scenic designer), Hazel Gutierrez Marges (production manager), and Jayvee Carreon (production stage manager).

    05 1

Written by French playwright Yasmina Reza and translated by British playwright Christopher Hampton, this witty and sharp one-act play features three long-time friends Serge (Sarreal), Marc (Sawyer), and Yvan (Sy).  While it explores the subjective nature of art with an  Antrios painting —an all-white piece  tinged with the faintest off-white stripes worth 200,000 francs—becoming a source of tension, the play also cleverly and hilariously dives deep into the complexity of friendships and how easy it is for personal beliefs to strain relationships.

Also sharing the stage are artworks by members of the HOPE Project, an initiative made up of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Lipa City, Batangas. Founded by jail warden Aris Villaester, HOPE Project (or Help One Person Deprived of Liberty Every Day) supports the release of qualified and deserving PDLs who are ill, in their senior years, and have no financial means to pay for legal fees.

    08A

Apart from supporting the creations of PDLs, REP’s ART is also part of the Bridge Project 2025 Season, made possible with a partnership with the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and MINT College.  The skills exchange program focuses on classical work with week-long workshops on Shakespeare Rhetoric, Voice & Alexander Technique, Movement and Stage Combat led by visiting tutors from New York and the United Kingdom. With a generous funding from the Community Investment arm of JTI Philippines andthe Mercedes Zobel Foundation, the Bridge Project also offers production arts workshops on scenic design and lighting for theaterperformance.

    06 1

Don’t miss the limited run of REP’s take on the internationally acclaimed comedy ART only until June 29 at REP Eastwood Theater.

Throughout the afternoon, “Music Heals” will host vendors, facilitators, and a series of workshops designed to educate and engage participants about the power of sound healing, incense appreciation, and cacao ceremony, and an eclectic variety of holistic healing modalities.

Another exciting FetePH2025 event that Fete-goers can look forward to is the Ember Stage at Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City on June 13. This stage features an intimate yet captivating musical experience with a vibrant showcase of young energy and Gen Z magic.

The musical celebrations continue well beyond the main events. Following the FêtePH25 Main Stage, the fete-stivitieswill spread across Makati City with numerous Pocket Stages on June 27 as part of the Barangay Poblacion fiesta. As in previous years, the pocket stages will offer a more localized and intimate musical experience in various venues with all kinds of music genres. There will also be Pocket Stages outside Metro Manila on June 28.

The grand musical journey doesn’t stop there. FetePH2025 brings the spirit of “Un Monde” to communities nationwide on June 28 with 29 Destination Stages and 90 events all over the country. Spanning from Northern Luzon, across the Visayas, to Southern Mindanao, this truly makes Fête de la Musique a country-wide celebration.

Complementing these musical experiences, FetePH2025 partnered with SONIK Philippines to present Sonik Soiree, which will highlight the journey of Filipino talent expanding into global markets, the impact of music technology, and the growing role of the creative economy in shaping the future of music.

To lead the Sonik Soiree, FetePH2025 invited music marketing and business resource speakers, including Product Marketing, Business Development, and Brand Strategy lead at PLAYZER Francois Planquette, Live Promotions Bkk Managing Director Polo Ruesz, and CEO and Co-Founder of CtrI+Reach (by Y2M) Clémentin Diard.

“We are incredibly excited to bring ‘UN MONDE’ to life for our 31st Fête de la Musique celebration,” says Xavier Leroux, Executive Director of Alliance Francaise de Manille. “Music has an unparalleled ability to transcend borders and connect people. This year, we aim to showcase how Filipino music resonates globally, truly making us all ‘One World’ through melody and rhythm.”
