The past two seasons have garnered critical acclaim and are enjoyed by new and long-time Star Wars fans alike. As the New Republic struggles to keep the peace together, The Mandalorian must meet with old allies and face new enemies while he and Grogu explore the galaxy.
Before the new season starts, here are some things you need to know to get up to speed.
The story so far
The first season of The Mandalorian begins with the story of the titular character (Din Djarin), a space bounty hunter who takes on contracts to kill or capture targets. He is tasked to hunt down The Child/Grogu, a mysterious youngling. Upon meeting The Child, The Mandalorian decides to go on the run and not honor the contract. This leads to a journey that becomes a fight for survival as they try to take down The Client, the man responsible for putting up the contract.
This ends with them making an enemy out of Moff Gideon, who was a part of the Galactic Empire that once ruled the galaxy. The Mandalorian and the Child then formed a new clan as they set off on a journey to learn more about the latter’s true origins.
In the second season, Grogu is abducted by the enemy. This leads to a dramatic rescue and a fight between Din Djarin and Moff Gideon, which ends with Djarin getting a weapon called the Darksaber and saving Grogu. The end of the second season saw Grogu wanting to train to become a Jedi. He then bids Din Djarin goodbye in an emotional farewell.
Grogu’s origin and powers
Grogu is one of the show’s biggest stars. We learned more about his abilities and origin story in the second season. His name was revealed by Ahsoka Tano, along with his past as a Jedi in training. We also see Grogu become more comfortable using his powers and abilities, even helping Din Djarin during fights. They include telepathy, telekinesis, healing wounds, calming beasts, and even masking his own abilities to protect himself.
While the second season shared more information about Grogu’s origins, the mystery of who rescued him when he was younger remains.
Who will claim the Darksaber?
A legendary weapon from Din Djarin’s home planet of Mandalore, its holder can claim the right to rule the planet. Realizing the power that this weapon holds, he has the choice to stake his claim. However, Bo-Katan, one of his trusted allies, is Mandalore’s rightful heir and needs the Darksaber
New adventures await Din Djarin and Grogu in The Mandalorian Season 3, catch them on Disney+ on March 1, 2023.

Adapted from a popular crime mystery novel by Japanese writer Miyuki Miyabe, Copycat Killer is set in ’90s Taipei and tells the story of the first-ever serial murder case in Taiwan. The Chinese-language crime thriller will be released on March 31 globally and exclusively on Netflix.
Taking advantage of the widespread interest, the media-savvy serial killer turns the case into a national spectacle, fueling gossip and notoriety. A no-nonsense prosecutor, played by award-winning actor Wu Kang-ren, vows to solve the case only to realize that things are not what they seem. Meanwhile the killer repeatedly makes a mockery of law and justice as he seeks to destroy peace and order in society.
“Genre series are fascinating as you won’t figure out who the killer is, right until the end,” shared Wu, well-known for his versatile performances in Light The Night, Shards of Her and Mom! Don’t Do That. “Every character is connected by hidden threads, which unravel throughout the story. Likewise, I follow my character in exploring these threads, gradually forming a beautiful web of connections. I look forward to bringing viewers on the journey of discovering the masterful storytelling behind each thread.”
Other members of the star-studded cast includes Alice Ko, Tuo Tsung-hua, Yao Chun-yao, Fandy Fan, Cammy Chiang, and Hsia Teng-Hung, with a guest appearance by Ruby Lin (producer and leading actress of Light the Night).
To produce a crime and mystery thriller of such intricacy, the production team spent over three years on preparation, adaptation, filming, and post-production. “It’s a pleasure to finally bring what we have worked on for so long to the audience,” said co-director Chang Jung-chi, who won the Taipei Film Awards Best Director for We Are Champions. “Beneath the thriller and detective story lies a story of how humanity struggles between good and evil.”
While most crime stories focus on details of the cases, Copycat Killer casts a wider net. “We hope to portray more facets of each character and their thoughts and reflections within an intriguing narrative,” explained co-director Henri Chang, who earned six Golden Bell nominations for Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner. “While the story begins with ‘evil’ as we know it, there is a lot more to reflect on and take away from the series.”
A co-production between Greener Grass Production and Nan Fang Film Productions, this gripping series is helmed by award-winning producers Hank Tseng and Phil Tang. “Copycat Killer depicts a story of how desires, when out of control, can cause evil to go viral in a city,” said Tseng. “We hope that the confluence and fluidity of good and evil in the series will be able to provide healing to our viewers in this world of madness, where a lot more can be done to help and support each other.”
This year, Disney+celebrated the 17-year career of the K-pop group Super Junior by releasing the documentary Super Junior: The Last Man Standing which chronicles the rise of the South Korean boy band and how it heralded the great Hallyu wave around the world, brought by the popularity of South Korean performers.
During a recent press conference for the documentary, Super Junior’s leader Leeteuk and main vocalist Ryeowook talked about their journey through the seventeen years since the group debuted back on November 6, 2005. Check out some highlights of their Q&A with the Asian press below:
What does the title ‘The Last Man Standing’ mean for you?
Ryeowook: “The Last Man Standing” is part of the lyrics of our song Superman. I felt this from 10 years ago, that we will be the last man standing, so I do feel the responsibility and pressure to show our junior idol groups how to strive forward so I really want to work hard.
Leeteuk: I heard that the winner is the last man who smiles, so in 10 years’ time [or] 20 years’ time, I still want to say that Super Junior is going to be the last man standing.
As a trailblazer in K-pop, how does it feel?
Leeteuk: I do feel a lot of pressure these days. Because we’ve come a long way, I think our junior idol groups will also try to work harder and longer. Because our documentary is so well-made, maybe the other idol groups will also love to have their documentaries.
Super Junior has remained for 17 years now, what do you think makes Super Junior the “Last Man Standing”?
Ryeowook: We never took breaks. Some of us enlisted in the army but even when some of us were in the army, the group didn’t cease to work and have new albums, so I think that’s one of the powers that we have.
Leeteuk: We weren’t trying to let go of anything, but what we did was try the hardest at every moment and I think those days piled up to be 17 years of time.
Photo: Super Junior: The Last Man Standing trailer
What do you think sets this documentary apart from the other documentaries that Super Junior had been a part of?
Ryeowook: There’s a lot of footage of when we were young, when we’re literally babies, so I think those rare footages and videos will be taken as really fun and enjoyable to our old and new fans.
If you could go back to November 6, 2005, what would you say to yourself?
Ryeowook: I would say that you are going to be the best so don’t be afraid, because when I was watching the documentary I felt like I was quite afraid when I was young so I couldn’t even really introduce myself so I wanna say that to my younger self.
Leeteuk: So if you watch the documentary, I think it was the first album jacket shoot and the reporter says ‘Hello, what’s your name?’ and Ryeowook says hello, then she said her name and he says ‘I’m the youngest in the group’, and she says, ‘Name?’ and he says ‘Ryeowook’.
Ryeowook: I was really nervous at the time.
Leeteuk: If I were to go back to 17 years ago, I would tell myself that you’re doing great, because there are things that I could fix, but at the time that was the best I could give. Sometimes I do want to go back, but I know I really tried my best.

— Super Junior: The Last Man Standing is now streaming on Disney+.
This season of romance, Netflix’s latest offering for the romcom movie category is a fun film called Your Place or Mine, headlined by Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher and produced, written, and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna who wrote beloved films such as The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses.
The movie follows Debbie and Peter who are total opposites, but after a one-night stand, they become best friends for years. While Debbie is content with her routine life with her son Jack in LA, Peter’s New York career as a stylish brand consultant thrives in change. When they swap houses and lives for a week, they realize that what they want might not be what they really need.
Netflix recently held a press conference for Your Place or Mine which was joined by McKenna, Witherspoon, and Kutcher, alongside the other stars of the film Wesley Kimmel, who stars as Jack, Debbie’s son, Zoey Chao, who plays Peter’s fashionable ex, Minka, and Jesse Williams, who stars as Debbie’s New York fling, literary editor Theo Martin.
Check out what the creator and cast have to say about the new movie below:
Aline Brosh McKenna on her directorial debut in Your Place or Mine.
After writing successful films and shows, McKenna is now in the director’s chair for the first time. Asked why she chose this story for her directorial debut, McKenna explained that it was very personal to her.
“You know, I was very taken with the story. It was based on personal experience. And I wanted to do a romantic comedy for people who have been through something in their lives, and have [clears throat] you know, have accumulated some life experience.

“And so, as I was working on that, it just felt very personal to me through the whole process. And it was an idea I’d had for a long time. And then, when it finally came to fruition, it felt very personal. And then, you know, I like to work with unknowns,” said the director.
Building Debbie and Peter’s chemistry.
The film’s interesting take on a rom-com is that the two lead characters are rarely with each other, one is in LA while the other is in New York. According to Witherspoon, she panicked because she barely knew her co-star in real life.
“About a month before, I was like, ‘I don’t know this guy, and we’re supposed to be best friends for 20 years.’ So we started sending each other videos every day,” explained the actress.
“Every day, we would send back-and-forth videos of how’s your day going? What’s going on? What’s happening with you? What are you afraid of?” Added Kutcher.
“And it was good. It was really, actually kind of fun. And then our kids would get in the videos and our dogs…” Continued Witherspoon.

As for the filming, the stars revealed that it was “tricky”, the way they shot it from different places and different times, as the other person would shoot first before the other interacted with a filmed scene. This prevented them from doing improv, which they often did when they were doing a scene together.
Ashton Kutcher on Peter’s “grown-up” look and diving into fiction.
According to Kutcher, director McKenna always emphasized Peter’s hair when giving him that “grown-up” look.
“I think it was interesting. It was very much about the hair. Aline had a very particular hairstyle that she felt this character had to have,” explains the actor. “And she used the word ‘grown-up’ a lot. She’s like, ‘I want you have grown-up hair. Grown-up hair.’ I’m like, ‘This is my hair. Like, it is old. It’s 45 years old. It’s the same age as me.’
“But the style and just kind of the put-together essence of the character, I think it was a juxtaposition to kind of the all-over-the-place world of Debbie. So that was fun to play. It’s just this person that had this meticulous [personality], like everything needed to be in its place. The pen needed to be here and the headphones here and then this there.”

The actor also shared how he had to read ten fictional books to prepare for his role as Peter, who is also a novelist.
“I’m not a very big fiction reader. I don’t read a lot of fiction. And [Aline was] like, ‘Yeah, but this character’s a novelist, so he’s gonna be very well-read in fiction.’ And so, I ended up diving in. Aline sent me, I think, like, 10 books prior to the film. She’s like, ‘You need to read all of these.’ And every one of the books had notecards in them about what Peter got from this book, specifically, like, what he got as a writer from this book,” shared Kutcher.
Jesse Williams on being the book editor Theo.
Jesse Williams also shares that his character’s involvement in books is not far from his in real life, having been an English teacher before. “I am an avid reader. I was definitely a reader of fiction until I kind of converted. I stopped reading fiction, became obsessed with non-fiction for the last, maybe, 10 or 15 years. So I’ve kind of been returning to that recently. And, yeah, I did teach, so I love books,” said the actor.
“Books changed my life, particularly in high school. Actually, during this process, Aline was awesome enough; she got me a vintage, signed copy of one of my favorite books ever, which is Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon, which is just an absolute treasure.” Williams added.

Zoe Chao on her character Minka who defies expectations.
According to actress Zoe Chao, she instantly fell in love with Peter’s ex-girlfriend Minka right after reading the script.
“Aline had just made such a surprising, lovable, weirdo on page. And then Sophie De Rakoff brought all these amazing clothes. And then, boom, the character was there. Yeah, I don’t know. I mean, I love Minka because, though you don’t know what she does, there’s, like, a very calculated mystique about her,” Chao explained.
“She is not a sinister person. She’s actually a very positive person. And I think, you know, the ultimate hype-sister and, like, wing woman that you need in this life. And I like that she’s full of contradictions.”

Wesley Kimmel and his similarities with Jack.
Wesley Kimmel revealed that aside from Jack also playing hockey as he does, the character really spoke to him: “Well, that first audition that I had, like, we were reading the script, like, before. We were reading the sides over, like, just get a, like, gist of what was going on.
“And I looked up to my mom, and I was like, ‘This is literally me.’ Like, we had the exact same qualities, the exact same issues, the exact same allergies. And it was just like easy. It was easy to be, like, natural in the audition. It was just crazy.’ Like, we had the exact same qualities, the exact same issues, the exact same allergies. And it was just like easy. It was easy to be, like, natural in the audition. It was just crazy,” said Kimmel.
