Ayala Malls Turn Everyday Spaces into Art Destinations with Art Walk

This February, art steps beyond gallery walls and into the heart of the city as select Ayala Malls in Makati transform into living canvases for Art Walk by Ayala Land. Running from January 30 to February 8, the initiative brings works by leading Filipino and international artists into everyday spaces. Through this participation, Ayala Malls strengthens its role as the Filipinos’ third space – where shopping gives way to discovery, learning, and shared cultural experiences.

Conceived as a complement to Art Fair Philippines, Art Walk reflects Ayala Land’s belief that art shapes communities and enriches city life. It extends the fair experience into the city’s everyday spaces – into places where people walk, gather, shop, and commute.

“Art Walk by Ayala Land is one of the most anticipated cultural events in the metro, and we’re proud to host it in Ayala Malls,” said Mae Dichupa, Ayala Malls’ Head of Marketing and Consumer Experience. “Bringing art closer to communities through our malls allows more people to discover and enjoy it in meaningful, everyday ways.”

Visitors can encounter Ronald Ventura’s Carousel at Ayala Malls Circuit, a large-scale public artwork that blends fantasy and movement. At the Greenbelt 5 Gallery, Mich Dulce’s Nagsasalitang Ulo and Joel Wijangco’s Art 2 Wear bring together fashion and storytelling through wearable art. At One Ayala, Greenbelt, and Glorietta, Isaiah Cacnio’s Between Thoughts appears on digital screens, offering brief moments of reflection within the rhythm of the city.

From January 26 to February 8, Greenbelt and Ayala Foundation host Mothering/Unmothering, a multidisciplinary exhibition by Triangulum and curated by Vanini Belarmino that reflects on women’s lives, care, and autonomy. Among the works on view in Greenbelt and Ayala Museum is Tekla Tamoria’s AlterBibo, 2026, a deeply personal installation that traces themes of care, mothering, and becoming. On February 7, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen’s presentation The Mitochondrial Eve invites audiences into an intimate reflection on motherhood and identity. Earlier in the run, Lynn Lu’s performance Be Afraid Only of Standing Still moved through Ayala Museum, Greenbelt, and Ayala Triangle Gardens on January 29.

Beyond Earth Hour: Ayala Malls Champions Year-Round Sustainability with Innovative Water Recycling and Waste Management

As the world switches off for Earth Hour, Ayala Malls is thrilled to share its dedication for sustainability that goes beyond just one hour.

    Ayala Malls Manila Bay

    Green Cooling

Even in the intense tropical summer months, mallgoers to any Ayala Mall will enjoy a cool and comfortable environment, thanks to advanced chilled water systems that keep the temperature just right while being kind to the planet.

Ayala Malls’ innovative cooling systems use chilled water plants to absorb excess heat from the buildings, providing consistent cooling. Instead of relying solely on fresh municipal water, Ayala Malls has adopted water recycling initiatives to conserve water and minimize environmental impact, making their cooling systems sustainable and eco-friendly.

Through a dedicated sewage treatment plant, Ayala Malls treats wastewater from sinks, restrooms, toilets, and merchants’ kitchens. This treated water is then reused in cooling towers, helping to keep the malls cool.

By recycling water, Ayala Malls not only minimizes pollution and environmental impact but also reduces its carbon footprint by saving energy and resources needed for fresh water. This ensures a reliable water supply even during summer or water shortages.

This approach also helps Ayala Malls meet Green Building Standards like LEED and comply with government water conservation regulations. It cuts down on water consumption and costs. Plus, it lowers maintenance costs and reduces breakdowns in cooling systems by decreasing scaling and corrosion.

    From Waste to Worth

Beyond water conservation, Ayala Malls is also committed to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy. Ayala Malls’ partnership with Chop Value Philippines recycles used chopsticks from the Malls’ food courts into furniture and other pieces. In just 8 months, the program has recycled over 4.7 million pieces of chopsticks and repurposed into coffee and side tables, wooden trays, and rustic drink coasters.

The company also works with Green Trident to keep waste from landfills through a circular waste management disposal system where clean dry plastics are recycled and repurposed into Poly AL Pro boards, an eco-friendly alternative to wood and cement, and Papel ni Juan for multi-use bond papers. In 2024, over 32,000 clean dry plastics have been collected, and 2025 is off to an amazing start with 15,000 plastics collected in the first 2 months.

“At Ayala Malls, we believe that sustainability is not just a responsibility, but an opportunity,” says Paul Birkett, Ayala Malls Chief Operating Officer. “Our advanced chilled water systems that operate with recycled water not only make our malls more environment-friendly but also more competitive and resilient.  In addition, we are actively pursuing partnerships to recycle waste and promote a circular economy, diverting materials from landfills and repurposing them for new uses. Best of all, we are conserving resources for other important sectors as we take a big leap forward in our journey to our sustainability goals as a company.”

Ayala Malls’ sustainability programs are in sync with Ayala Land’s goal to hit carbon neutrality by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050 – showing the commitment to building sustainable and thriving communities for the future.

Come join Ayala Malls in celebrating Earth Hour and participate in creating a greener, more sustainable future for everyone.

    Glorietta x BBW 3

Teaming up with Big Bad Wolf Books Philippines, Glorietta is making the much-anticipated book fair more accessible to the public by bringing it to Glorietta Activity Center and Palm Drive Activity Center from June 19 to 26, 2024. This partnership is part of Ayala Mall’s broader advocacy, “BookLat: Open. Imagine. Discover.,” to provide avenues for recreation and experiential learning. The name “BookLat” is a play on the Filipino word “buklat,” reflecting the campaign’s focus on reading, leisure, and entertainment. Expect a wide range of affordable books to cater to all age groups. We’re talking millions of discounted books, from page-turners to hidden gems, all waiting to be devoured.

The book sale isn’t just about books; it’s about building a community of readers. Ayala Malls is going “Beyond Books” by championing a donation drive, encouraging customers to share a book for every purchase in support of Ayala Land’s undertaking to foster early childhood literacy. This project aims to collect 20,000 books that will benefit kindergarten to grade 3 students in public schools within Ayala Land Estates and Ayala Malls communities. To kick things off, Glorietta is pledging a whopping 1,000 books, which Big Bad Wolf will generously match.

Keep an eye out for the little librarians, too! They’ll be right by your side, eager to lend a hand and make your book-shopping experience unforgettable. From expertly sorting books to mastering cashier duties, the Little Wolfies will surely bring an extra spark of energy and cuteness overload. And that’s not all! Immerse yourself in various activities at the Activity Nook, including stamping and recycled doll kit stations by Papemelroti, as well as a music corner to add rhythm to your bookish exploration.

All these efforts embody the commitment of Glorietta and Ayala Land to cultivating a culture of reading, and ultimately, making a real difference in the community.

Trust us, there’s no better time not just to revisit the joy of reading, but to spread it, as well. Let this event whisk you away on fantastical journeys, broaden your horizons, and nurture your mind and soul. And who knows? With each book you read, you might just discover that, like the big bad wolf, the greatest stories are the ones that leave you howling for more. Remember, at the Big Bad Wolf sale at Glorietta, reading is a guaranteed adventure, not a cautionary tale. Happy hunting!

Thankfully, the cinemas are back and bigger than ever! Families can now return to their movie trips at Ayala Malls Cinemas and enjoy its immersive 4DX Cinemas (Greenbelt and U.P. Town Center) and huge AGiant Screens (Ayala Malls Manila Bay and Ayala Malls Vertis North), just like before.

They can also extend their family bonding time at the mall after the movie. Dine or do more activities the kids and kids at heart will enjoy (visit Timezone, perhaps?). You and your kids can also shop from Ayala Malls’ wide range of kid-friendly merchants—from educational (bookstores, hobbystores, etc.) to recreational (sports shops, toy stores, amusement, etc.).

    Showcasing world-class Pinoy talent

Internationally renowned institution American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Studio Company is once again taking the Philippine stage through a series of enthralling performances as part of a fundraising effort hosted by the Ayala Foundation, STEPS Dance Studio, and Ayala Malls. Considered one of the greatest dance companies in the world, ABT Studio Company strives to cultivate the growth of talented and enthusiastic individuals while expanding the reach of ballet to a broader audience. STEPS Dance Studio Founder Sofia Zobel Elizalde shared “We’re beyond grateful for ABT’s unwavering support in this noble cause. Art transcends beyond language and culture, and there are countless talented young individuals who deserve to refine their gifts. This show is a testament to our shared mission of nurturing and developing the next generation of artists.”

Returning to the Philippines to join the show is award-winning Filipina classical pianist, Cecile Licad. This will be her first live performance since the pandemic, making it a memorable experience not only for the audience but for the renowned artist as well, whom The New Yorker termed as “a pianist’s pianist”—a truly honorable title for the Filipino native. Also raising the Philippine flag are Filipino-American Prima Ballerina, ABT Jackie Onassis School Artistic Director, and ABT repetiteur Stella Abrera; and STEPS Dance Studio’s pride and one of  ABT Studio Company dancers – Vince Pelegrin. “I’m ecstatic and proud to see one of my former students, Vince, up on the big stage as a performer of one of the most prestigious dance companies globally. He is a living manifestation of our company’s mission, and we’re excited to see where the future will take him.” mused Sofia Zobel Elizalde.

The gala show will commence at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, Circuit Makati on April 20th. To foster a wider and more diverse community of art enthusiasts, this will be followed by public shows and first performance outside of Metro Manila at Ayala Center Cebu and Ayala Malls Abreeza on April 22nd and 23rd respectively. Select students from Cebu and Davao will also have the opportunity to participate in a Masterclass led by Stella Abrera and the Artistic Director of American Ballet Theatre Studio Company Sascha Radetsky.

This is just the beginning of Ayala Malls’ celebration of local talent. Expect more amazing experiences in collaboration with a new generation of Filipino innovators.
