Making Mealtimes “Refreshingly Real” for Every Filipino Family with DenJen Family and Tang

Mealtimes today are no longer just about gathering around the table. More often, they come with phones in hand, scrolling through perfectly curated feeds filled with spotless kitchens and picture-perfect meals, quietly shaping what family life is “supposed” to look like.

    Tang x DenJen Photo 1

But behind these polished snapshots is a different reality. Real dining tables are rarely perfect. They are a little messy, a little noisy, and often unpredictable. Yet, it is in these moments that conversations happen, laughter builds, and real connections are formed.

In a world where curated moments dominate social media, Tang, together with Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado, invites Filipino families to drop the filters and embrace real life as it happens.

    Tang x DenJen Photo 2

With its 2026 campaign, “Get Refreshingly Real with Tang,” the brand encourages families of all backgrounds to let go of the pressure to be picture-perfect and celebrate everyday moments that are messy, spontaneous, and authentically theirs. At a time when IG-worthy snapshots take center stage, Tang, alongside the Mercado-Trillo family, challenges Filipinos to share their refreshingly real stories, reminding us that while life may not always look aesthetic, it is always meaningful.

There is a deeper truth the campaign brings to light as well: Filipino families today come in many forms. Among them are blended families, where parents bring together children from different journeys and create a shared home grounded in understanding, adjustment, and everyday effort. These households are built not on perfection, but on showing up for each other, navigating differences, and finding connection in simple routines.

    Tang x DenJen Photo 3

This is why Tang partnered with the Mercado-Trillo family, as they reflect this modern dynamic. In their home, different personalities, preferences, and routines coexist, requiring flexibility, patience, and constant adjustment. Rather than striving for a picture-perfect setup, they focus on what truly matters, showing up, making time, and creating moments that bring everyone together.

Jennylyn shares that family life is less about control and more about connection. “Hindi man pare-pareho ang gusto at ugali namin sa bahay, natutunan namin mag-adjust para sa isa’t isa. Mas importante sa amin na nagkakasama-sama at nag-eenjoy kami, kahit simple lang,” she shares.

This kind of honesty reflects what many Filipino families experience today. Behind every polished post is a more lived-in reality, one that includes small compromises, shared laughter, and even a bit of chaos at the dining table. In contrast to perfectly styled, top-view food content, Tang celebrates these unfiltered mealtime moments, where connection matters more than presentation.

For Dennis and Jennylyn, Tang has naturally been part of their everyday life. Having grown up with the brand, they now share it with their own family, where it becomes part of simple, shared routines that bring lightness to mealtimes. More than nostalgia, it represents continuity across generations, now redefined in a more modern, more real family setup.

“Tang talagang kinalakihan namin inumin mula nung bata pa,” Dennis shares. “Ngayon, kasama na rin siya sa moments namin sa bahay, lalo na pag magkakasama kami.”

For Tang, this reflects a more purposeful role in supporting the everyday realities of Filipino families today.

“Our ‘Refreshingly Real’ campaign is rooted in the belief that the most meaningful moments are the ones that are honest and unfiltered. Through this campaign, we want to celebrate everyday family experiences and show how Tang naturally becomes part of these real, shared connections,” said Karol Canlas-Apelo, Senior Category Marketing Manager for Tang, Mondelēz International Philippines.

“For Tang, this marks a new era for the brand, one that is more purposeful and deeply connected to the realities of Filipino families today,” said Adrian Manlapig, Marketing Director of Mondelēz International Philippines. “Beyond refreshment, we want Tang to play a more meaningful role as an ally to parents, supporting them in creating real, everyday moments of connection with their families.”

With its real fruit taste and wide range of flavors, Tang fits naturally into these everyday moments, helping make mealtimes more enjoyable and shared experiences more meaningful. Because in the end, it is not about creating perfect moments. It is about embracing the real ones.

Watch the film now on Tang’s official social media pages and see how refreshment comes from being real together.

  • Before You Say ‘I Do’: 5 Relationship Truths from “The Drama” You Need to Know, Now Showing in Cinemas

Before You Say ‘I Do’: 5 Relationship Truths from “The Drama” You Need to Know, Now Showing in Cinemas

Love, Truth, and the Questions That Matter Most

They say love is all you need—but is it, really? Just before the vows are exchanged and promises are sealed, there’s often a quiet moment where reality whispers louder than romance. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

    The Drama 2

The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson and now showing in Philippine cinemas, delivers a gripping, emotional look at relationships standing on the edge of forever. Beneath the romance lies a compelling truth: love alone may not be enough without honesty, understanding, and the courage to confront what lies beneath.

So, before saying “I do,” here are five essential questions worth asking—ones that may just change everything.

    1. Can You Handle All the Truth?

Honesty fuels love—but let’s be real, not all truths are easy to accept. In The Drama, a single confession unravels everything, shaking not just trust but the very foundation of the relationship.

It raises a powerful question: how much truth can love actually carry before it starts to break?

    2. Do You Really Know Your Partner?

“From Charlie’s perspective, Emma is this archetype of perfection,” says Pattinson. “He can’t imagine she could possibly do anything wrong.”

Yet love, while deeply felt, can sometimes blur reality. People are layered—presenting their best selves while quietly holding back parts of who they truly are.

Are you in love with your partner as they are, or with the version of them that feels safest and easiest to hold on to?

    3. Are You Ready for the Past That Comes with Them?

Zendaya describes Charlie as someone who wants to be seen as good, someone shaped by perception and expectation. Emma, on the other hand, carries experiences that disrupt that ideal image.

When their worlds collide, the relationship is forced into unfamiliar territory.

Because here’s the truth: loving someone also means accepting the chapters of their life you didn’t witness—and the parts you may not fully understand.

    4. Can Love Survive Discomfort?

Love feels effortless when everything is certain. But what happens when doubt creeps in? When emotions clash with values? When things stop feeling simple?

The Drama explores this tension with striking intensity, reminding viewers that relationships are often defined not by comfort—but by how they endure discomfort.

If love is unconditional, where do you draw the line?

    The Drama 3

    Meet Emma & Charlie

You are cordially invited to witness a love story where perfection fades and truth takes center stage.

Meet Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Robert Pattinson) as they navigate a relationship tested by secrets, expectations, and the weight of what it truly means to commit. The Drama offers a raw, emotional cinematic experience—one that challenges the idea of “happily ever after” and replaces it with something far more honest.

Catch The Drama now showing in cinemas nationwide.

STREAMING REVIEW: Under the Shadow of the Empire: A Review of the First Four Episodes of the Disney+ Series ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’

I’m not the most die-hard Star Wars fan. While I’m familiar with the universe – having seen all the nine core films plus Solo and Rogue One (the latter being my personal favourite in the whole franchise) and a few of the series, with Andor as my personal bet – but I’m not completely invested in it. I love science fiction, especially in film and television, so when it’s done well, I do enjoy it. But the lore surrounding this universe is not my specialty and it’s not something I closely follow.

So, coming into Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, I was concerned that I might not be able to easily enter into the story that was developed by Dave Filoni and Michnovetz. The story is set a year after the events of The Clone Wars (a series I haven’t seen), and apparently, Maul is back. The first four episodes of the show are set on the planet of Janix, where a determined Maul seeks to take revenge on the people who have betrayed him and rebuild his criminal empire. While he attempts to stay under the radar, he draws the attention of Brander Lawson, a smart and experienced detective. Meanwhile, two Jedi, Daki and Devon, are in hiding. In this point in the Star Wars timeline, the Empire holds absolute control, and the Jedi are outlaws.

The animated series boasts of gorgeous background art; Janix is depicted as a dark, foreboding, and futuristic planet. The character art takes a bit getting used to but I’m honestly thankful that it isn’t drawn anime-style and has its own distinct form that sets it apart. Being animated heightens the suspension of disbelief because the narrative moves very quickly, sometimes too easily, for the plot points to hit their mark. With each episode roughly under 30 minutes, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord moves rather quickly, not giving you much time to breathe.

The narrative shifts between Maul, Lawson, and Devon, triangulating a moral center in a reality where the Empire has cast a dark shadow has over civilization. While Maul is the center of the show, he represents the side of evil. He wants revenge and he will destroy and kill anything and anyone in his way to stop it. What is interesting about his depiction is his elegance and grace. He is eloquent, articulate, and oftentimes takes an almost spiritual attitude towards his own misdeeds. There’s an air of entitlement, a belief that his actions are justified simply because he is better and far superior to everyone else. Voiced by Sam Witwer, Maul makes for an interesting protagonist to watch, even if he’s the villain. He doesn’t see himself that way and in the four episodes of the show, it makes him fun to watch.

    MAUL Trailer1 Still 6 Large

Bandder Lawson (voiced by Wagner Moura) represents law and order, yet this is paradoxical because while he wants peace and justice, he is not afraid to bend the rules. He has informants in the underworld and he’ll break protocol to keep the Maul sighting outside of the Empire’s radar because he doesn’t want the Empire in Janix.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord

Because of this, tensions arise with his droid partner, Two Boots (voiced by Richard Ayoade). Lawson is rational and dedicated, but this seems to have created distance between him and his son, Rylee (Charlie Bushnell), who appears sporadically in the show but feels like he’ll be important later.

Devon (voiced by Gideon Adlon) falls somewhere in the middle. As a Jedi-in-training, there is frustration and bitterness in having to live on the streets and in hiding. Her first scene finds her arguing with her mentor, Daki (voiced by Dennis Haysbert), over stealing food from a merchant who “won’t even miss it.”

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord
Devon Izara (voiced by Gideon Adlon) in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, exclusively on Disney+. Photo courtesy of Lucasfilm Ltd. © 2026 Lucasfilm Ltd. All Rights Reserved.

Devon is constantly scowling, combative, and guarded. When Maul finds her, he sees a potential for an apprentice. In fact, their extended encounter in Episode 3 is the series’ most interesting part, Maul’s proposal to the disgruntled Jedi feels like a metaphor for today’s moral ambiguity. It raises the haunting question: What do justice and righteousness mean in a world where justice and righteousness don’t win?

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord

What I also appreciate most about the series is how the Empire, though never physically shown, remains a looming presence for all the characters. Nobody wants them in Janix. It is the threat of authoritarianism, casting a dark shadow both over the planet and this story. So much so that Episode 4 cliffhanger raises the stakes so much more.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is undeniably fast-paced and action-packed. The short run time per episode means we don’t get to really fully explore these characters, but the show is good at creating tension and a dark atmosphere that keeps building and building. By the end of Episode 4, while Maul remains the central force of the story, it seems Devon has become its fulcrum. There’s a moral argument here that is presented and I’d like to see how this show intends on answering it.

  • THEATER REVIEW: Scene Change’s ‘Ang Linangan,’ Directed by Guelan Varela-Luarca, Is a Deceptively Complex Study of Sibling Bonds

THEATER REVIEW: Scene Change’s ‘Ang Linangan,’ Directed by Guelan Varela-Luarca, Is a Deceptively Complex Study of Sibling Bonds

Scene Change is doing really groundbreaking work in theater, creating productions in alternative theater spaces to keep the tone intimate and compact. This approach allows itself to work on plays where the spectacle and theatricality are found in the nuances that thrive in such close proximity. Last year’s 3 Upuan does exactly this and Guelan Varela-Luarca does it again, directing Ang Linangan, a translation of The Farm by New York-based playwright Davis Alianiello. The production transforms the Joselito and Olivia Campos Interactive Room at the third floor of Ateneo’s Areté into a space seating roughly 30 to 40 people. The stage is just one tiny corner of the room with only a table, two chairs arranged to resemble a car’s driver and passenger side, along with a backdrop of photos with red thread, resembling that of detective boards in a police movie or series. With the ceiling removed to expose the plumbing above, the design is simple yet filled with texture as we watch two actors, playing siblings, skirt around difficult subject matters.

    Ang Linangan

Brian Sy and J-mee Katanyag play siblings Tyler and Sasha. The play begins in the middle of winter as Sasha picks up Tyler in her car. Tyler has been away for a long time in a place called “Linangan,” which we realise, as they converse, is a cult. Tyler appears to be the troubled sibling, lost and without direction, while Sasha is the older, more serious type who seemingly has her life together. Running for approximately 90 to 100 minutes in a single act without intermission, the majority of this is just the two siblings catching up. They are avoiding difficult subject matters (but they do get into it), and being exactly like brother and sister.

    ANG LINANGAN 6

At its heart, the play is simply just two people talking, yet the dramatic situation of the play is so interesting that you are caught up in the story. Sy and Katanyag manage to fully embody the sibling relationship so fully that I was brought back to my own exchanges with my own siblings. The shorthand way by which we speak, having a history together so that certain talking points can go by so quickly. There’s a lot of love and fear on that stage, and the two leads deliver the emotional weight of this play’s story in such a satisfactory way.

    ANG LINANGAN 10

They are completely alone in that car, vulnerable and isolated and it is so interesting to watch because what has happened to Tyler is not something we encounter all the time. Sasha serves as our entry point into the narrative: do we react the way she does? How kind should we be? How badly do we want to call our sibling “stupid” for doing something so silly? But you know you can’t because there’s a deep emptiness there if your sibling thought joining a cult would be the best way to fill it.

    ANG LINANGAN 23

The play is never loud or grand and Varela-Luarca is excellent at amplifying the little things that make this play pop. First, the way he had directed his actors to mine the scene for all its worth emotionally and theatrically. During their conversation, while Sasha is driving, Tyler would get up and stretch and walk around the car, yet we know he is still in it, telling his story, but as the audience we know he is finally relaxing. He is finally feeling comfortable and safe being alone in this space with his sister. The table and the chair that approximates the front half of the car suddenly becomes the whole stage; Varela-Luarca understands that when two people are on a drive and it’s just them, it’s a whole entire world there with just the two of them. D Cortezano’s lighting design punctuates these shifts, marking transitions as the characters go into flashbacks or imagined moments, while the symbolic yet grounded stage design further anchors the characters’ reality.

    Ang Linangan

Even the sound design, when the two actors mime putting on their seatbelts, the recorded clicking of the buckle is timed perfectly with the actor’s movements. The first fifteen minutes transports you from the Joselito and Olivia Campos Interactive Room and into Tyler and Sasha’s private world, and the rest of the time, you are just transfixed in that moment with them. The play is dense, heady, and complex yet it’s also funny, touching and moving. While Sy is always a reliable actor, Katanyag is a total powerhouse, delivering a bravura performance that is unforgettable. In her, I saw flashes of myself, my sister, in other moments, and in some snippets of dialogue, she is my two older brothers. She just captures it.

I’m glad someone is doing these plays that are left-of-center and are creating full Filipino translations of Western plays that don’t adapt the material; it just makes it accessible to a wider audience. There are moments when I forgot that these characters weren’t originally written as Filipino at all. The naturalism of the language confused me, but they could very much well have been our own. This is the universality of a great theatrical production.

I am so excited to see what else Scene Change has in store for us this year.

    My Rating: 5 Stars

Ang Linangan was an unforgettable study of sibling bonds that set a high bar for Philippine theater this year. Although the run concluded this past March, its impact remains. Support local, “left-of-center” theater by keeping Scene Change on your radar for the rest of the 2026 season.

THEATER REVIEW: Dulaang UP’s “Ang Kaliitan ng Kasalukuyan” As an OFW Story That Never Arrives Home

From the moment you take your seats at the IBG-KAL Theater in UP Diliman, you will be intrigued by the stage design for Ang Kaliitan ng Kasalukuyan. Aaron Misayah’s scene design features an impressively large white ramp that serves as a traverse stage, with the audience seated on opposite sides. One colleague described it as a skateboard ramp and my first impression was that of a water slide. Later, I’d realise that my first impression rang true but more on that later. At the very end of the stage are seats that were meant to resemble a waiting area in an airport. Some cast members are already seated, in costume, waiting, as the audience trickles in. Hanging above is a tiled platform that opens up to bring down certain set design elements like a door. The amount of stage elements were actually quite commendable except that as the play unfolds, there’s just too much that it starts to feel comical.

Lead by Sandino Martin (playing Bulan), an OFW working in Dubai and the son of two former OFWs. In the first act, Bulan returns home and is surrounded (maybe even suffocated) by the love of his family who hail him as a hero. They rely on him for his remittances to help the family build a home and a business. As Bulan interacts with family members and old friends in his hometown, he longs to be able to return for good. But in the second act, he returns to Dubai and struggles with the burden of responsibility. He does not want this life that was handed down to him by his parents, he wants to break free from the Filipino custom that the child must repay the sacrifice of the parents.

There’s a whole lot of theater going on in Ang Kaliitan ng Kasalakuyan that both the play and performances are weighed down by all the stagecraft involved. The first act has a chorus, cast members all in white, narrating the story, providing the exposition before exiting and returning as other characters. This chorus does not return until the finale when they come back to moralize against Bulan’s own interrogation about his family obligations. There’s puppetry, a story told to Bulan as a child by his grandmother and the younger Bulan is portrayed as a puppet.

Later, in act two, another puppet appears, a sort of like “Jiminy Cricket” character in Disney’s “Pinocchio,” who is about a foot and a half high and sits on Bulan’s shoulder and gives him someone to vent and rant to. As Bulan is picked up from the airport by his father, the cast members go on a ride on chairs meant to look like a car but a remote-control car precedes them. It’s a theatrical element that is used for only two minutes and does nothing really but distract us from the conversation Bulan has with his family. Later, a huge puppet made, the size of a truck maybe, with arms that grasps Bulan as a symbol of the Middle East’s hold over him. And the water slide design of the stage? At some point, water begins to flow, turning the stage into a little creek.

Also, it’s sort of a musical with three or four songs sung in the first act and then no more in the second act until the finale.

Aside from the remote-control car, all the theatrical devices are actually quite impressive if they were not mashed up together in one play that never really feels cohesive. A lot of the inner world of the characters are said out loud, giving nothing for the audience to stew on. The play, as written, feels so literal that the theatrical devices feel utilized to make the play seem more like a play than a weekend television movie. It’s because of how on-the-nose the writing is that I can’t really comment on the performances because there was no real subtext for the actors to really play out. The way the play was written, what you see and hear is exactly what you get. And these are OFW stories that are familiar to us; we have a lot of this already in film and television and in theater. The big theatrical devices made the play seem bigger but not necessarily weightier or meatier.

And all throughout the second act, we are presented with Bulan’s struggle. How his identity has been stripped away by family obligations, trapped in a foreign land that discriminates against him, away from home. Yet, the final song is a big, epic song that talks about how OFWs will continue to sacrifice their own happiness for their loved ones, for their country. These two ideological principles never feel settled by the play, and I left the IBG-KAL Theater a little perplexed rather than inspired.
