In the first part of The Glory, we saw Moon Dong-eun carefully lay out the foundations of her grand machinations to take vengeance on the bullies who made her teenage years a living hell. Relentless in her pursuit for revenge, Dong-eun is almost a completely cold-blooded machine with only tiny sparks of humanity on display when dealing with her accomplice, Mrs. Kang (a wonderful Yeom Hye-ran), and a young doctor who has fallen for her, Joo Yeo-jeong (Lee Do Hyun). By the end of episode 8, the trap is set and one of the bullies has gone missing, Kim Gun-woo, while the husband of the mastermind of the bullies, Park Yeon-jin has begun to suspect their child is not his and his wife is not the person she had led him to believe.
The show, already intense as it is, gets even more heated in the first two episodes of its latest season. With Gun-woo missing, the bullies are starting to fall apart and turn against each other and this forces Yeon-jin to bare her fangs and fight back.
Part One of ‘The Glory’ was enjoyable because we saw Dong-eun (Song Hye-kyo) weave a tangled web that put her former tormentors into a tailspin. The show gave us a chance to revel in her vengeance. The campy, one-dimensional brutality of their bullying earns the psychological terror she puts the bullies in and we derive joy from it, despite how it could possibly destroy Moon Dong-eun’s soul forever.
Photo: The Glory Part Two trailer
But now that the pressure is on, Yeon-jin is fighting back and what was a one-sided battle has now become a head-on battle. And Yeo-jin is not without her means. While Dong-eun has had 18 years to prepare, at the heart of it all is a tortured soul. She’s still, inherently a good person seeking safety. Yeo-jin is pure evil and her opening salvo on episode 9 is directed at my personal favourite character, Mrs. Kang.
All of a sudden, Dong-eun’s plan is not as foolproof as we were led to believe.
At the same time, Yeon-jin’s husband, Ha Do Yeong (Jung Sung-il) is not some simple puppet. He’s still a variable who may or may not go against his scheming wife. And the bully Jeon Jae-jun (played by the brilliant Park Sung-hoon) has plans of his own to take Park Yeon-jin’s daughter as his own.
Photo: The Glory Part Two trailer
With all these variables coming into play, episode 9 and 10 of ‘The Glory’ has raised the stakes and taken out the fun of taking revenge and made the battle very real and very dangerous for Dong-eun. The advantage of surprise is no longer there. It’s her against all her bullies and while her first strike has been decisive and brutal; it seems that the retaliation will just be as severe.
What makes ‘The Glory’ so enjoyable was how we got to see these untouchable bullies suffer at the hands of the person they tormented. Now that it has evened out the playing field, it’s no longer a guilty pleasure. The show has managed to shift our desires from wanting to see Dong-eun’s comeuppance to just making sure she survives. This bait and switch, made possible by cutting the season in half and taking a 2-month break, is an interesting use of the medium to build momentum and to help the show gain its full stride.
Photo: The Glory Part Two trailer
Now, more than ever, her humanity is at stake and the show is now poised to reach a profundity that wasn’t available to it at the beginning. This is a promise made by the character of Mrs. Kang because Joo Yeo-jeong is very happy to be an accomplice to Dong-eun’s plan. His own dark backstory, as revealed in episode 10, has made him poised to be an even more frightening aspect of this story.
As ‘The Glory’ returns to streaming with part two, we will all await with bated breath how this story will end.

The iconic slasher franchise is back for another installment in Scream VI. Another Ghostface rises to terrorize the survivors of its predecessors, from Scream staple Gale Weathers to its most recent victims, the Carpenter siblings.
But before you see the slashing and screaming on the big screen, here’s a round-up of some facts about the new horror movie that you might not know about.
1. Ghostface goes to the Big Apple.
While it all began in (and always leads back to) Woodsboro, the Scream franchise has taken place in different locations, with a new set of Ghostface killers following its protagonists wherever they go. This film is no exception.
After the events of the fifth Scream movie, the survivors try to start a new life in New York, but sure enough, even the bustling city wouldn’t be able to protect them from a new Ghostface killer on the loose.

2. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back as directors.
Scream VI is the second film not helmed by its creator Wes Craven, after the filmmaker’s passing in 2015. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett– collectively known as Radio Silence– who directed the 2022 Scream film are back to direct the sequel, which was actually written before the fifth movie.
“It really moves like it’s on rocket fuel,” director Gillett told TOTAL FILMin an interview. “You sit down, it starts, and the movie is just a ride. You get off two hours later, and you feel like you haven’t taken a breath.”
3. Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Courteney Cox, & more familiar faces return alongside new characters.
Returning for the sixth installment of the film is Scream regular Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers as well as Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby Reed from Scream 4 and Scream 5. They will once again join the new set of Scream protagonists Sam Carpenter, played by Melissa Barrera, and her sister Tara portrayed by Jenna Ortega.
Other returning survivors from the previous film include Mason Gooding’s Chad Meeks-Martin and his sister, Jasmin Savoy Brown’s Mindy. New characters include Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Henry Czerny, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Josh Segarra, Liana Liberato, and Devyn Nekoda.
4. The longtime protagonist Sidney Prescott will not be returning.
While the Scream films have had different main characters, the first “final girl” Sidney Prescott has always played a major role in the franchise. But the character will not be returning for the new movie as Neve Campbell decided to step away from the role because of the salary offer she calls “sexist.”
“I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise,” Campbell told Deadline. “It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
Photo: Scream (2022) trailer
While there are unconfirmed rumors about the salary negotiations getting a resolution and Campbell making a surprise cameo in the new film, what the directors did confirm is that Campbell can still return to the franchise in the future.
5. A “bolder, more brazen” Ghostface.
Of course, the identity of the latest Ghostface killer remains to be seen on the big screen, but if we expect the franchise’s tried and tested formula to be applied in the sixth installment, we’ll get another pair of killers donning the Ghostface mask.
The directors did comment about their newest Ghostface in an interview with TOTAL FILM: “We wanted to make this really different, while still having all the stuff you love. Having a bolder, more brazen Ghostface was a big part of that.”

It’s been almost two years since the release of season two of The Mandalorian and so much has happened since then. A range of other Star Wars shows have premiered on Disney+ but I never caught up. I did enjoy ‘The Mandalorian’ though so being able to see the first two episodes quickly reminded me what I love most about the show. Even with all the time that passed, it’s important to note that the only two characters you really have to remember are The Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his ward, Grogu. Their relationship is the heart of the show and that’s all you need to know. What I also love about ‘The Mandalorian’ is how showrunner Jon Favreau sticks to the space western genre.
Westerns are not just about cowboys and Native Americans. It’s the frontier lands and it’s about the beginnings of civilization. Away from the big cities, in the wild, wild west, might makes right and the law is just an abstract thing. What Favreau does is to take the essential thematic elements of a western and infuse it into the narrative structure of ‘The Mandalorian.’ He does this with terrific effect. It’s one part commentary on the fringes of society, far away from the eyes of authority but it’s also a fun adventure into the unknown reaches of the Star Wars universe.
By the start of the third season, we discover that Grogu has decided to stay with Din Djarin (which apparently is a choice that was made in an episode of ‘The Book of Bobba Fett,’ which I did not see) and are now on a task to redeem Din Djarin in the eyes of The Mandalorians, as he has broken from the Creed when he took off his helmet last season. Despite the show being about the frontier lands of the Star Wars universe, outside the reach of The New Republic, and the people at the fringes of this galactic society, the first two episodes of the third season seem to be exploring the roots of Mandalorian culture and the importance of the Creed, their way of life.
There is a profound existentialism that is being teased in the first two episodes as Din Djarin is determined to rejoin his people by bathing in the waters of an underground lake in his homeworld. On the flip side, Bo Katan (Katee Sackhoff) joins the cast and contrasts Din Djarin’s faith by being cynical about the Mandalorian code. As a royal who saw Mandalore at its greatness (before its ruin), she is disillusioned and cynical. These two forces are at full display in the first two episodes and signal an interesting philosophical debate that may unfold during this whole season.
After all, the first two seasons have been about exploring the world of the show and how lawlessness looks in this universe. Now, the show goes deeper and looks inwards into the beliefs that give these characters a sense of purpose. Now, the mantra the Mandalorians always recite – “This is the way” – holds much more weight. It’s become a promise of what’s to come in this season and I’m all for it.
The show is moving at a very quick pace. The first episode seems inconsequential, a random trip that leads to no real story event other than to revisit some old characters, but quickly we arrive at Mandalore by the second episode and what transpires there is a figurative renewal of faith for the two characters in opposition. By the end of the second episode, I still don’t know where this show is moving towards but it feels so much bigger than before, as if it is alluding to something grand and I’m all for it.

What makes ‘The Mandalorian’ so enjoyable is the free-and-easy storytelling and the dynamic characters. It’s a fun show that prefers to show us in broad strokes a world that is outside the reach of authority. There’s a lot of humanity tucked away in the images of pirates and mercenaries. Now that Din Djarin and Grogu’s relationship is secured, it is time to broaden that world and, at the same time, deepen it and if it moves along its steady pace as earlier seasons, then we are in for another fun ride.
