Dive into Taiwan’s dark underbelly and explore the murder of a popular elementary school teacher, a train derailment that’s not what it seems, a reporter’s quest to uncover the truth behind a family murder, and a child homicide on a military base in Taiwan Crime Stories–available exclusively on Disney+.
Co-produced by Calfilms, Sixty Percent Productions, and Imagine Entertainment, this gripping 12-episode anthology is inspired by four crimes that have shaken Taiwan to its core over the years. With each dramatized case taking place over three episodes, audiences will be held captive as the shocking events of each story steadily unfold.
The first case, “Derailment,” is brought to life by Aozura Shiao, the Golden Bell-winning director of the hit medical drama Wake Up; and screenwriter Tsun-Han Liuof The Fearless. It features a star-studded cast including Rhydian Vaughan (Women In Taipei, Monga), Allison Lin (The World Between Us), Simon Hsueh (Workers), and Patrick Shih (Someday Or One Day).
“A Matter of Life and Death” pairs The Scoundrels director Tzu-Hsuan Hung with The Last Verse writer Hong-Ru Shih, and stars actors Po-Chieh Wang (Women In Taipei) and Frederick Lee (Trinity Of Shadow).
Yang-Chung Fan, the Golden Bell-winning director of The Will to Power, takes the reins for “Gravity of Sin”; with Yu-Chen Lin of In A Good Way writing the screenplay. Golden Horse winner Yi-Wen Chen (A Sun) and Vivian Sung (Till We Meet Again) headline.
In the final case, “Dark Currents,” Jui-Liang Hsu and Shu-Ting Liang, the writers behind The Victims’ Game, serve as director and writer, respectively, with Golden Bell winner Fu Meng-Po (The Last Verse), Kent Tsai (The Teenage Psychic), and Patty Lee (My Missing Valentine) starring.
In their quest to bring these stories to life in the most authentic way possible, Executive Producers Cora Yim and Benjamin Lin invited some of Taiwan’s biggest creative names onboard to uncover the humanity that underlies any crime. “We are also tremendously honored to partner with Imagine Entertainment, one of the top and prestigious producers in Hollywood,” said Yim and Lin, “the collaboration experience has been priceless.”
“We are thrilled that our first Chinese language scripted series have debuted on Disney+,” said Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, founders of Imagine Entertainment. “This has been a wonderful collaboration with Sixty Percent Productions and Calfilms and we look forward to sharing it with audiences worldwide.”

Hailed as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg has taken the audience, child and adult alike into delightful experiences inside the cinemas worldwide with his classic blockbuster films “E.T”, “Jaws”, “Schindler’s List,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” to “Saving Private Ryan” and now comes his latest film, “The Fabelmans” opening exclusively at select Ayala Malls Cinemas.
In “The Fabelmans,” Spielberg’s younger version Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) is devoted to filmmaking, an interest that is celebrated and championed by his artistic mother, Mitzi (four-time Academy Award® nominee Michelle Williams). Sammy’s successful, scientific father, Burt (Paul Dano), supports Sammy’s work, but views it as an unserious hobby. By 16, Sammy is both the primary observer and archivist of his family story. When his family moves west, Sammy discovers a heartbreaking truth about his mother that will redefine their relationship and alter the future for himself and his entire family.
Co-written with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner, “The Fabelmans” is a cinematic memory of the forces, and family, that shaped Spielberg’s life and career. “At a very young age, something happened, which is reflected in our film, where I stopped perceiving my mother as a parent, and began looking upon her as a person,” says Spielberg. “I think all kids at a certain point in their lives have these moments where they realize, ‘Hey, my parents have been people all this time.’ I had that epiphany when I was 16 years old.”
“The Fabelmans” is unquestionably a fitting title to Ayala Malls Cinemas’ ‘A-List Series’ and best viewed on the big screen with its highly inspiring and moving portrait of Spielberg and his family especially his parents, infused with the same humanistic grace that marks all his films.
This year’s most anticipated film in cinemas, “The Fabelmans” currently enjoys a very fresh 91% rating at Rotten Tomatoes with rave reactions and reviews worldwide. ““The Fabelmans” does it all, with an expansive spirit and that quintessential Spielbergian combination of honesty and sentiment,” says Ann Hornaday of the Washington Post. New York Post’s Johnny Oleksinski considers “The Fabelmans” as the best movie of the year so far, “It’s gripping, visually mesmeric, boasts an exceptional, grounded script by Spielberg and Tony Kushner and is acted to the hilt. A no-holds-barred Michelle Williams skyrockets to the front of the Oscar race with an unforgettable performance.”
Watch “The Fabelmans” starting January 18 exclusively at cinemas of Ayala Malls Glorietta, Ayala Malls Greenbelt, Ayala Malls Circuit, Ayala Malls Bonifacio High Street, Ayala Malls Feliz, Ayala Malls U.P. Town Center, Ayala Malls Trinoma, Ayala Malls Harbor Point, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Ayala Malls Alabang Town Center, Ayala Malls Centrio, Ayala Malls Capitol Central, Ayala Malls The 30th, Ayala Malls Central Bloc and Ayala Malls Solenad.
Watch out for the other upcoming titles to be included in the A-LIST SERIES such as ALICE DARLING, EMPIRE OF LIGHT and many more.
When Margot Robbie read the script for the first time, she says it was the strongest reaction she had ever had. “My team was actually a little alarmed at my intensity,” says Robbie. “I was like, ‘I have to do it. This role is mine.’”
“For a role like Nellie you need an actor who truly has no fear. Someone who can take the screen as though she’s grabbing it by the sides and shaking it to do whatever she wanted to do. That, to me, is Nellie. That, to me, is Margot. In many other respects they are incredibly different people, but there’s an energy and fervor and hunger that they both share,” says director-writer Damien Chazelle.
While Nellie’s character is inspired by a myriad of silent film stars, it was the true-life story of Clara Bow that really helped Robbie understand Nellie.
“Clara Bow had probably the worst childhood of anyone I’ve ever heard of,” says Robbie, referring to the trauma and abuse that Bow suffered as a child of poverty. “Clara’s parents never got a birth certificate for her because they had already lost two children, and they felt certain she would never make it past her childhood. When I read that, the character of Nellie really started to make sense to me. I could imagine she always felt that every day she was on the planet she was on borrowed time, so she was going for broke every single day.”
In an introduction befitting her wild nature, Nellie LaRoy first appears on screen as she’s careening her car into a statue outside studio mogul Don Wallach’s mansion. Nellie is determined to crash the party, so that all of Hollywood’s power brokers can witness the moment when a star is born.
“The operating principle with Nellie was that she’s a force of nature who just kind of crashes into everything that she encounters,” says Chazelle. “There’s a kind of magic that arises from that, and it’s part of why she becomes a star, but it’s also part of why she encounters so many problems in her career so quickly as well. She’s representative of that kind of wild-west spirit of the time where the old rules were out the window.”
Once inside the party, Nellie makes the most of her opportunity, mixing with all of the beautiful people while somehow standing out at the same time, and it all leads to her first big break in the business.
“This party scene shows how every little thing in Hollywood can lead to something big,” says Robbie. “It’s how I felt when I first got to L.A. too. There’s no roadmap of how to make it happen, but you know you need to make it happen, so you just do everything you can to create that moment. Nellie just instinctively knows that she needs to get into that party, because something’s going to happen tonight, and it’s going to be big,” she concludes.
