‘Scary Movie’ Brings Back Fearless R-Rated Comedy to Cinemas This June 10, Uncut and Rated R-16

Director Michael Tiddes and Marlon Wayans promise outrageous laughs as Scary Movie returns to the big screen. Rated R-16 with no cuts, the comedy opens in Philippine cinemas on June 10.

After more than two decades of shocking audiences and redefining parody films, Scary Movie is making a bold return to cinemas. Opening in Philippine theaters on June 10, the latest installment arrives rated R-16 with no cuts, delivering the outrageous humor and no-holds-barred comedy that made the franchise a worldwide hit.

For franchise creator and star Marlon Wayans, the goal has always been simple: make audiences laugh, even when the jokes hit close to home.

“When you come to this movie, you’ll laugh at the other guy and you’ll laugh at yourself,” promises Marlon Wayans, who, together with his brothers Shawn and Keenen Ivory, created the first Scary Movie more than 25 years ago. “I’ve spent the last 15 years on a comedy stage every weekend so I know where the laughs are. I think we’re delivering something special to the theaters.”

A Comedy That Refuses to Play It Safe

Director Michael Tiddes believes the secret to Scary Movie’s success lies in its willingness to take risks and challenge expectations.

“I’ve always believed that great R-rated comedy should feel fearless. It should surprise you, make you slightly uncomfortable, catch you off guard, and then have you laughing before you even realize what just happened.”

Working alongside the Wayans family and producer Rick Alvarez, Tiddes says there was never any intention to tone things down.

“That’s one of the reasons I’ve loved working with the Wayans family and Rick [Alvarez, producer] for so many years – there’s never been an interest in playing it safe or sanding down the edges to make everyone comfortable. The comedy works because it’s bold, unapologetic, self-aware, and willing to go places most movies won’t.”

That creative approach became the driving force behind the newest chapter in the beloved franchise.

Bigger Laughs, Wilder Surprises

According to Tiddes, the team set out to create a film that captures the unpredictable energy that audiences loved about the original movies.

“We wanted Scary Movie to feel dangerous again, like anything could happen, nobody is safe, and every scene is trying to top the last in the funniest, wildest way possible.”

The filmmakers continuously challenged themselves to raise the bar, crafting bigger set pieces and sharper jokes throughout production.

“Rick, Marlon, and the entire team were constantly pushing creatively to make every joke sharper and every sequence bigger. For me, this movie also feels like a celebration of something audiences have been missing for a while: unapologetic, crowd-pleasing, hard-R comedy on the big screen.”

He believes the return of the genre comes at the perfect time, especially when shared laughter in packed cinemas feels more valuable than ever.

“There’s something special about sitting in a packed theater hearing people gasp, laugh, and lose it together. I really believe R-rated comedy is back, and Scary Movie is leading the charge by crossing every line.”

Staying True to the Franchise’s Roots

While the new film aims to surprise modern audiences, Wayans says it remains faithful to the spirit that made the original such a cultural phenomenon.

“It was the first of its kind: a parody brought to you by African-Americans featuring a diverse cast,” says Marlon. “We explored culture and humor and characters that hadn’t really been seen in mainstream movies. This one is no different.”

That commitment to pushing boundaries continues in the latest installment.

“We kicked the doors open all those years ago and we’re keeping up the tradition that we always stood by. Everybody’s going to get it in this movie. Just enjoy it when it’s your turn, laugh with it and at it and then feel free to laugh again.”

For Wayans, comedy remains one of the most powerful ways to bring people together.
