A Dark Legend Steps Out of the Shadows
The Force shifts once again as Lucasfilm Animation announces “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord,” an all-new animated series streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting April 6, 2026. Designed as a bold and pulpy adventure, the series will roll out with two episodes every week, culminating in a highly anticipated finale set on May the 4th, the ultimate celebration for Star Wars fans worldwide.

Set in the turbulent period following the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the story explores what happens when the galaxy’s most relentless survivor refuses to fade into legend.
Maul’s Dangerous New Game
With the Republic fallen and the Empire still extending its reach, Maul finds opportunity in the chaos. Hiding on a remote planet untouched by Imperial rule, the former Sith Lord begins plotting his next move—the resurrection of his criminal empire.

But Maul is not driven by power alone. Haunted by past betrayals and fueled by vengeance, he seeks something more enduring: a legacy. His plans take an unexpected turn when he encounters a young Jedi Padawan, disillusioned by the collapse of the Jedi Order and struggling to find purpose in a galaxy that no longer makes sense.
To Maul, this broken survivor could become the perfect apprentice—or the spark that ignites an even greater conflict. Their uneasy alliance tests the boundaries between manipulation and mentorship, darkness and belief, revenge and hope.
Storytelling Shaped by Star Wars Visionaries
“Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” is created by Dave Filoni, drawing from the iconic universe and characters created by George Lucas. The series is developed by Filoni alongside Matt Michnovetz, with Brad Rau overseeing the project as supervising director.
The executive producing team includes Dave Filoni, Athena Yvette Portillo, Matt Michnovetz, Brad Rau, Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes, while Alex Spotswood serves as co-executive producer. Together, they bring a deep respect for Star Wars lore while pushing its animated storytelling into darker, more complex territory.

A Powerful Voice Cast Brings the Darkness to Life
Returning to one of his most celebrated roles, Sam Witwer once again voices Maul, delivering the intensity and emotional depth fans have come to love. He is joined by a standout cast that adds richness and personality to the series:
