Disney+ Streaming Review—Revolutions Are Hard: Andor Season 2

I’m not at all a Star Wars fan. I do enjoy a few of the films but none of them really got to me except for ‘Rogue One.’ It’s only ‘Rogue One’ that got me to understand and feel what it was the Rebellion was fighting for. It gave the whole franchise the meat and emotional punch that I felt was missing from that universe. All this talk of the Skywalkers and the Sith Lords and it all felt so compact and fictional. I can understand why some critics have called it a space opera. It wasn’t until ‘Rogue One’ that the authoritarianism of the Empire became palpable. It wasn’t just concepts thrown around. You could see it: the tyranny and the terror. And it wasn’t a special saviour coming to save the day. It was the everyday revolutionary who wanted change.

It’s why of all the Star Wars series on Disney+, the only ones I followed were ‘The Mandalorian’ (only until season 2) and ‘Andor.’ The first season of Andor was just pitch perfect for me. A true-blue science fiction story with great world building, memorable characters (with great performances by the actors portraying them), and a plot that detailed the challenges of putting together a rebellion while an empire slowly turns fascist. ‘Andor season 1’ gave us a in-depth look into the origins of Cassian Andor, the male protagonist of ‘Rogue One’ and how he became a part of the Rebellion. It was an origin story that showed us why one must stand up to tyranny at all costs.

Andor Season 2 Birth of the Rebellion Large

On the second season, Andor (Diego Luna) is now awake and radicalized but he is also burnt out and jaded from all the horrors he has seen and been a party of. He is still doing missions for Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard) while questioning his own part to play.

The 12-episode season is released 3-episodes per week. With the first 9 having already dropped, and the last 3 to be aired next week; ‘Andor’ has proven itself to be the most grounded of the Star Wars properties. Through the first 9 episodes, we see Andor try to keep his family together – Bix (Adria Arjona), Brasso (Joplin Sibtain), and Wilmon (Muhannad Bhaier) – while navigating his complex relationship with Luthen. Luthen is trying to keep the Rebellion one step ahead of the Empire working with his assistant Kleya (Elizabeth Dulau) and Senator Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly). On the other side, Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) is given an opportunity to work on a secret project that allows her to use her new lover Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) as an agent in the contested planet of Ghorman.

Andor Season 2 Hear the Empire before you see it Large

Played out over four years, with each new three episodes happening one year later from the previous, what ‘Andor Season 2’ does is build from the extensive world building that was already laid out in season 1 and then shows us the full ramifications of the price and the cost of a revolution and, on the flipside, what authoritarianism can do to those who blindly follow it, until they are no longer blind and must reconcile in their own participation of tyranny.

Andor Season 2 Clone Troopers Large

While a lot of the later episodes of the season start to push for a narrative that Andor is meant or destined to make things happen – a bit Skywalker-ish, for my taste – it’s left ambiguous enough and just implied that it doesn’t take away from Cassian Andor’s everyman quality that makes this show so captivating. Mon Mothma is no Princess Leia. Luthen Rael is not as flashy or charming as Han Solo. And they shouldn’t be. These are the rebel fighters who are doing the dirty work day-to-day trying to keep the spirit of revolution alive so that oppression does not take over from the ruling class. The show brings us to various locations and worlds, the CGI-quality is the best I’ve ever seen from a Star Wars show, but it is also so intricate that you can pick up the commentary that it has on our everyday world. The indulgence and the lavish set up of the capital of Coruscant versus the old world and traditional designs of Ghorman or another world that is just filled with fields and fields of grain. The contrast between the corrupt city versus the outer worlds that are producing things of value who are the bearer of the Empire’s need for control.

Andor Season 2 Saw Gerrera Large

We know that this show will lead straight into ‘Rogue One’ and we know how that movie ends but we are still left captivated by the turn of events that forces Cassian Andor to do what he does in the later film. The film is powered by what drives people to risk everything, to risk all for the freedom of all. I’m amazed at how this show can make real the desire to want real change for the world and to look at tyrants and authoritarian regimes like the Empire and call it out for its propaganda and greedy, abusive, and exploitative methods for control.

Andor Season 2 Kyber Crystal Large

There’s a fan favourite from ‘Rogue One’ who has made an appearance at the end of episode 9, and we’ll get to see more of them in the last three episodes, as well as a fantastic look into the origins of two of the show’s most interesting characters. ‘Rogue One’ and ‘Andor’ are the two shows that makes Star Wars, and all of its films feel big and important because prior to this, the terms “rebels” and “empire” were just abstract words thrown about to determine who is good and bad. But now, in ‘Rogue One’ and ‘Andor’, we can really feel the danger, the urgency, and the hope that this franchise is grounded on. Revolutions are hard. You must risk everything, but it is worth it. ‘Andor’ makes me see this and entertains me at the same time.

  • Disney+ Streaming News: ‘Hyper Knife’ Cast Breaks Down Their Characters at Exclusive Press Conference

Disney+ Streaming News: ‘Hyper Knife’ Cast Breaks Down Their Characters at Exclusive Press Conference

With the release of the first two episodes of Disney+’s new streaming medical thriller ‘Hyper Knife’ the world gets to see a different side to Korean superstar Park Eun-bin. She has wowed audiences with her earnest and textured performance in the popular hit K-Drama ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ and a look at her filmography shows that she has played challenging yet more grounded characters. Now, in this gripping suspense series, she has shed all the goodness that we’ve come to know of her from ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ or ‘The King’s Affection’ as she tackles the sociopathic genius underground doctor Jung Se-Ok.

    Hyper Knife 하이퍼나이프 배우단체1

Like every press conference, the actors and the director take turns coming on stage to pose for the cameras. It’s charming to see actor Yoon Chang-young, who plays Seo Young-joo in the series, look so awkward and nervous despite having debuted as far back as 2013 and having starred in the hit zombie series ‘All of Us Are Dead.’ In comparison to his older co-stars, Park Eun-bin, Park Byung-Eun, and the legendary Sul Kyung-gul, Yoon Chang-young looks so young and naive despite his rather impressive resume as he started as a child actor like Park Eun Bin.

Alongside with director Kim Jung-Hyun, the cast went down to really talk about how different this show is going to be. “It’s a very strange story,’ says Kim, “There’s something off about each of the characters. You won’t normally get to meet characters like these in a K-Drama. It’s almost like a fairy tale but bloody.’ We know this from just the first two episodes alone. Seeing Park Eun-bin play a rather blood thirsty character is such a surprise. She describes her character as a “prodigy and a genius neurosurgeon who has an obsession. She is uncontrollable.” The real Park Eun-bin is bright and cheerful, a complete opposite of her character Jung Se-Ok and Park is quick to add: “I can’t ask you to root for her, but I hope you can enjoy the show.” She emphasizes that there are people like this and that hopefully viewers will find them an interesting watch on television.

    Hyper Knife 하이퍼나이프 박은빈2

Playing opposite of Park Eun-bin is Sul Kyung-Gu, who plays her former mentor who disgraces her and removes her medical license forcing her to go underground. On his character, he says “Choi Deok-hee is like a person who is isolated on an island. He is lonely but he doesn’t let anyone near him. He is self-centered and clumsy, and he has no one to admire except for Jung Se-Ok. But he can also be petty. Very petty.” Sul continues to explain that the two leads are dark reflection of each other, practically mirror images and he hopes that the connection between the two will make the audience excited to tune in every week.

    Hyper KNife 하이퍼나이프 윤찬영 3

It’s this darkness that attracted Park Eun-bin to the role. She narrates how she got the script while shooting ‘Castaway Diva’ and she was hooked on just reading the logline on the first page. She shares that “no one believes me when I say that I am so safe in my choices.I only take roles that I know I can deliver well but this role is a real challenge for me.” She reiterates her earlier message saying she doesn’t want anyone to “understand her character.” She talks about the genre called picaresque, which she says “is a genre where the protagonist is not a hero. He’s a bad person and that’s what we are doing in this show.”

    Hyper Knife Poster

Sul talks about how he didn’t have to work hard in learning how to look like a competent doctor. “There are stand-ins for the procedures and close-ups on the hands,” he admits but is quick to add that “there are no stand-ins for Park Eun-bin.” He says that she’s so small that they couldn’t find a doctor to play her parts so Park Eun Bin had to train and learn how to do all the operations in the show so she could perform it on camera.

For a cast that are working with each other for the first time, there’s a lot of love and affection that is thrown around here. Despite the dark nature of the show, the chemistry is going to be off the charts if the first two episodes and the press conference are any indication.

Don’t miss out on this gripping new thriller! Watch Hyper Knife now on Disney+ and witness Park Eun-bin and Sul Kyung-gu’s electrifying face-off.

Meet Leo: The Adventurous Star of the Film

According to director Hugh Wilson, Leo was the perfect choice for the film’s main character. “It was crucial for our story that Leo was an adventurer, and when the team encountered one particular pup, we knew we had our star,” said director Hugh Wilson. “Regularly supplied with lots of milk by his devoted mum, Luna, Leo was full of energy and keen to make his mark on the world. Full of character from day one, he was constantly up to no good—getting into sticky situations.”

But life as a young sea lion isn’t just fun and games. From racer snakes to massive Galapagos sharks, Leo must be on high alert to survive in this ever-changing ecosystem.

Brendan Fraser Brings the Story to Life

Brendan Fraser’s voice brings warmth, humor, and depth to the film’s narration. “Working with Brendan was an honor, and he delivered a great performance with the narration,” continued Wilson. “He was able to convey a range of emotions from high-stakes drama and important factual content to intimate comedic moments. He was particularly strong in regard to the comedy—a crucial ingredient for Disneynature films—and it was great to see him really lean into those moments.”

Adding to the magic is a stunning original score by composer Raphaelle Thibaut, enriching the story’s emotional highs and lows.

  • Disney+ Streaming Review — Park Eun-bin Excites with a Darker Character in Disney+ Thriller ‘Hyper Knife’

Disney+ Streaming Review — Park Eun-bin Excites with a Darker Character in Disney+ Thriller ‘Hyper Knife’

After her award-winning performance in ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo,’ Park Eun-bin has able to showcase her commitment to character and her vast range as an actress. In the new Disney+ series ‘Hyper Knife,’ she goes head-to-head with another incredible Korean talent, the film actor Sul Kyung-gu of movies like ‘Memoirs of a Murderer,’ the wildly fun ‘Kill Boksoon,’ and ‘The Moon’ with Exo member D.O. Park and Sul face off as former mentor and former student, two genius neurosurgeons whose past has forced them to a bloody path as they reconnect again at the start of the series.

Seeing the first two episodes, ‘Hype Knife’ is a dark tale where there are no heroes; or at least at the start. Park Eun-bin’s Jeong Seok and Sul Kyung-gu’s Choi Deok-Hee are people whose genius pushes them to a level of sociopathy. While the older Deok-Hee seems more capable of acting like an empathic human being among others, the younger Jeong Seok is impatient, impetuous, and self-absorbed. Both think they are better than everyone, but Jeong Seok is not afraid to verbalize it.

    Disney Hyper Knife Still 2

At the start of the series, Jeong Seok has already fallen from grace, removed from an operating room while finishing her surgery by Choi Deok-Hee, the two have a spat and her medical license is removed. The show opens with her doing an illegal, underground brain surgery on a gangster boss at an abandoned temple in the mountains. Deok-Hee, simultaneously, is conducting his own operation at a hospital but something’s off. Jeong Seok is at home in this rough environment. The make-shift operating room doesn’t disturb her at all. We’ve come to realise she loves the job; she loves being a surgeon. She’d do anything to continue to operate. The police are after her as a video of an extremely difficult procedure comes to light and as they bring the video to Choi Deok-Hee for confirmation, he knows the only person who could do it is Jeong Seok. He now tries to find her for his own purposes.

Disney Hyper Knife Han Hyeonho 4

To say their meeting is explosive is an understatement. He needs something from her, but she wants him to suffer for what he did to her and with that, the game begins.

Park Eun-bin and Sul Kyung-gu are playing shades and textures of what appears to be the same character. One is a younger version, full of life, and a massive ego that refuses to bow down to anyone else’s authority. The other is just as arrogant but is tempered by age and wisdom and what appears to be a need to maintain a certain respectability. But they are both ruthless and brilliant and seeing them come head-to-head is going to be quite exiting.

Disney Hyper Knife Jung Seok 5

It’s extremely exciting for me to see Park Eun-bin throw herself at a character like Jeong Seok. The role is feisty and completely amoral. She is unburdened by any sense of authority or social mores thus she’s a complete wildcard. What makes this character exciting for Park Eun-bin to play is how it contrasts so much with her small, petite frame and youthful beauty. But her eyes are dead except when she is hatching a plan or when she’s about to operate. Just by looking at her you think she can’t hurt a fly and then she does, and even more so. It’s so unexpected that if the show keeps utilizing this disconnect, it can make for some really great moments for the show.

Disney Hyper Knife Seo Yeongju 4

Creating a moral center for the show is Jeong Seok’s assistant, Seo Young-joo (Yoon Chang Young). Yoon Chang Young is a great counterpoint for Jeong Seok and their rapport and banter is pretty interesting. I can’t wait to discover how she and he are connected and how his character will either bring her back from the dark side or if he will be sucked into her darkness. If the show manages to stay dark and gritty and pulls no punches, this is a show that can be as engaging as ‘Gangnam B-Side.’ With the talent involved, this has all the potential to be a fun and exciting show to invest in.

    My Rating:

  • Disney+ Streaming Review — From the Ashes: A Review of the First Two Episodes of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Disney+ Streaming Review — From the Ashes: A Review of the First Two Episodes of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

The new Daredevil series begins with a gorgeous, grounded coverage of the city bursting with busy-ness and life. A montage of the characters we’ve come to know from the 3-season Netflix series it follows – Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page – showing us that they’ve returned to working together and, for the first time, it seems our titular character Matt Murdock looks happy. The shots bring out the flavor and textures of New York; that of ordinary people, outside the usual hustle-and-bustle of the MCU. This is meant to bring us closer to real people and real lives. Probably a way to remind us that Murdock is unlike Tony Stark or Thor. He’s a lawyer, first, as well as a superpowered costume vigilante. His battle against injustice is at two fronts.

But when a battle ensues with someone from his past, Murdock is forced to don the mask and fight crime as Daredevil. People are hurt, tragedy strikes, and Murdock is pushed over the edge. As he later states in the pilot episode, “A line was crossed…”—and from that moment, the show takes an unexpected turn.

Daredevil Born Again DBA Teaser Digital KA v7 Lg

The prologue’s promise of a continuation of the series storylines is an illusion. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is exactly that: a rebirth. That tragedy changes Matt Murdock and the story continues a year after that monumental event, and he has not been Daredevil of that period of time. He starts a new firm and surrounds himself with new people, including an investigator, Cherry, who is aware of his former identity. Murdock is more cynical now, a bit jaded. So much so that his partner tries to set him up with someone new, a doctor, Dr. Heather Glenn.

Things are looking different, quieter and peaceful until Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, runs for Mayor. And Murdock struggles whether he would return to his vigilante ways or has Wilson Fisk really turned a new leaf? Matt Murdock doesn’t think so. And the nine-episode season tells us, at some point, he will find a reason to put the mask on again.

There’s still a darkness to the series, with showrunner Dario Scardapane at the helm, but off the bat the cinematography is already a bit brighter, even during the dark. The flash of humor is a very Marvel + Disney thing and doesn’t hold the same bite that it did in the old Netflix series. The show is trying its best to hold on to its foundations – the old show – but also trying to present it in a new way. There’s a bit more CGI than I’m comfortable with; especially because it’s not clean and can get very distracting. There’s even a fight scene in episode one that is reminiscent to the famous first season fight scene of ‘Daredevil,’ the one shot that was a tribute to ‘Oldboy.’ Unfortunately, the fight scene in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ doesn’t have that same energy and is muddled by weird choreography and blocking and some unflattering CGI movements that makes it feel manufactured. It doesn’t have that grit and power that the originals have.

But once you’ve shaken that initial feeling of having to compare the two (because let’s face it, the Netflix Daredevil series is so loved) and acclimate to the Disney-fied version of ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ there’s quite a lot to enjoy from the new show. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are always a joy playing these two characters and with the premise of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ there’s an unsteady truce between them. It gives opportunities to meet and talk and their acting prowess just makes the screen sizzle with energy. From the first two episodes, we can feel the push and pull inside Murdock and Fisk, the way they are trying to hold on to a change they have committed to; but we can see them breaking. We can see the cracks. It’s wonderful and I can’t wait to see it unfold over the season.

Ayelet Zurer returns as Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Fisk’s wife, who has taken over his crime business while the Kingpin was recovering from a gunshot to the face (as implied in the last episode of ‘Hawkeye’ and possibly in ‘Echo,’ which I have not seen). Zurer had always made Vanessa such an interesting character and it’s nice to see her add a new layer to the role. Margarita Levieva plays Dr. Heather Glenn, who serves as an interesting romantic interest for the Daredevil, but we’ll get to see her flex her acting chops as her story seems to intersect into the rest of the plot beyond just as a love interest by the second episode. As previewed in press materials and on social media, the White Tiger will make an appearance by the second episode while the Punisher is nowhere yet to be seen.

Shot during 2023, there’s a lot of subtexts within the show’s premise that is mirroring America after its most recent election. The Kingpin running for office and the way the show tries to explore and navigate the social aspect of such a move directly articulates a lot of present-day feelings. The fact that the show began filming before the election will shield it from any political notions, though it could still reflect the current U.S. president’s first term. But the groundedness I mentioned at the beginning of this review makes ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ more than just a superhero TV show. The fact that Matt Murdock is struggling whether he will be more effective as a lawyer or as a vigilante in a political and social landscape in the show that is very similar to that in real life – it makes it something even more interesting to watch.

We’ve been waiting for this! Despite a few fumbles, it’s looking good. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is looking really good.

An Inside Peek at ‘Daredevil: Born Again’—Exclusive Highlights from the Virtual Press Conference

On February 22, Disney+ held a virtual press conference for the cast and producers of its highly anticipated upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again. In attendance were stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who play Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, respectively, along with showrunner Dario Scardapane, episode directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, and producers Brad Winderbaum and Sana Amanat. ClickTheCity was granted access to the event and had the opportunity to watch the panel, moderated by Sade Spence.

    Daredevil: Born Again

Off the bat, it seems that this is happy production. The two leads easily share banter not just with each other but the creative team behind the show. In fact, Vincent D’Onofrio is quick to hand out praises for the team, especially to the directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. D’Onofrio compliments them by saying that ‘Loki’ season 2 is his favourite Disney+ show and that there are “stuff they did on the second season of that show that I’ve never seen before.”

Despite playing each other’s nemesis for three seasons of Daredevil, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio share a close and comfortable friendship. Cox even says, “Over the last 10 years, we’ve obviously become very good friends. And the good news is that it does feel like the better friends we become, the easier it is to hate each other.” D’Onofrio agrees but adds that their strong friendship fosters trust, which enhances their work. Their bond is so deep that whenever Daredevil and Wilson Fisk share a rare scene together, they instantly connect. D’Onofrio refers to this unspoken understanding as their “shorthand.”

But while there’s a lot of love and banter and laughter, the whole cast and artistic team are very, very careful about spoilers. Oftentimes, someone says out loud, “careful” why someone is trying to answer a tricky question about certain characters. As someone who was given a screener for the first two episodes, I got nervous about how some people were trying to skirt around these topics – mostly from the two directors – because the two actors were completely tight-lipped.

One thing they were able to talk about is the fact that Jon Bernthal is returning to the show as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher. Sade Spence shared a question directed towards Charlie Cox about what kind of relationship will the two characters have in the show. Cox was quick to say that he would watch anything Jon Bernthal was in and is a massive fan of the actor. Cox adds that he’s “got such amazing charisma and energy. Whenever he shows up, it’s absolute delight both in terms of his performance and as a human.” But then Cox also shares that Jon and Charlie (talking about himself in the third person) are very “different people” and he implies that the energy their differences create is utilized and made to make the show so much more fun.

“We’re very different people, in some ways,” Charlie Cox tries to explain, “but Daredevil and Frank are much more like one another than Charlie and Jon are so it’s much more fun to play with that. And often when I’m on a scene as Daredevil with Frank, he pulls me closer to the Daredevil that I’m frightened of and excited by, if you know what I mean.”

Now that’s a combination that’s making me extra excited about what else is to come in the show.

But while they can be open about The Punisher, when the moderator opens about a character called Muse, no one can give her a straight answer other than Scardapane saying that “Muse is one of the stressors” of the two characters.

To sum up what Scardapane imagines for this show is how the hero and the villain, Matt Murdock as Daredevil and Wilson Fisk as The Kingpin, are filled with such humanity but carry with them “a kind of dark passenger” or their alter egos. So, what the made working on the show so interesting for him was how they “always try to find that humanity inside the heightened world with action that every time is trying to reset the bar for television.” They tried to keep the darkness and the grit of the earlier versions of the show when it was on Netflix and pushed against the boundaries of what was acceptable in a Disney+ show. Producer Brad Winderbaum said they took a “softer approach at the beginning” but then they kept pushing the material further and further because that’s what the fans would want (in terms of tone and aesthetic) but also because the story demanded it. Brad concludes with the fact that they “never found the breaking point” and achieved the darkness and the tone they wanted.

Now, it’s time to see the results for yourself! Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney+—don’t miss it!

Disney+ Streaming Review — With Fresh Energy, ‘Buried Hearts’ Is a New Disney+ KDrama That Will Keep You Guessing

As a corporate crime suspense thriller, ‘Buried Hearts’ takes an interesting approach to its narrative structure. The show opens with a flash-forward, a man’s body is discovered in the sea, dead, with an emphasis on his watch. We go back in time, to see Seo Dong-Joo (Park Hyung-Sik) attending a government hearing where Heo Il-do (Lee Hae-Young) is being grilled over the possibility of corruption in an energy collaboration between Heo Il-do’s company and the government. Seo Dong-Joo then sends a signal to an assemblyman, who incites chaos into the proceeding. Already, we are told that Dae-san, the company of Heo Il-do and Seo Dong-Joo are not to be trifled with.

The set up shows us the dirty dealings of a chaebol and how you’d never want to mess with their people. Seo Dong-Joo is one of those people, the right-hand man of Cha Gang-Cheon (Woo Hyeon), the CEO of Daesan and the father-in-law of Heo Il-do. In fact, the first episode is quick to show us that Cha Gang-Cheon is much closer to Seo Dong-Joo than Heo Il-do and Heo Il-do is not happy about it, neither is his wife, Cha Deok-Hee (Kim Jung Nam). But Seo Dong-Joo is loyal and is working hard playing the politics of business to try and get a promotion for himself. Keeping him grounded is his lover, Yeo Eunnam (Hong Hwa-Yeon), who is also working at Daesan.

From the get-go, the series feels like it’s primarily a suspense thriller set in the messy world of conglomerates. Seo Dong-Joo’s goal seems to be how he’ll navigate raising in the ranks, especially when he’s not part of the family; as chaebol families have a tendency of keeping the highest positions in the business only to family. Seo Dong-Joo had already given up dating Cha Gang-Cheon’s granddaughter for Yeo Eunnam.

But the big twist is that this thriller’s fulcrum, the surprise at the end of episode one, is that this is a love story, and Seo Dong-Joo must contend with Eunnam in ways that was predictable but still shocking when it unfolds.

What makes ‘Buried Hearts’ so interesting is the narrative approach to the story. Director Jin Chang-Gyu (‘Military Prosecutor Doberman’) and writer Lee Myung-hee allows the story to begin right in the middle without taking too much time establishing characters and relationships. The show does that while the plot is unraveling before our eyes. It’s a hit-the-ground-running sort of approach that gives ‘Buried Hearts’ a different energy and pace. It’s exciting because there’s so much, we still don’t know but we are already at the heat of it, most especially by the end of episode one, that there’s very little room to breathe.

Still 1 Buried Hearts Huh Joon Ho Yeom Jangseon

While Heo Il-do and his family seem to be an obvious obstacle for Seo Dong-Joo, the big mystery is how Heo Jun-Ho’s Yeom Jang-Sun plays into it. A former prosecutor and what seems like a current-day fixer is trying to create a relationship between himself and the Daesan group. He also has a connection with Seo Dong-Joo (is he Dong-Joo’s mentor?) but the show is setting him up to be the main adversary. This is where the politics and intrigue of the chaebol world will come to play, and I hope it’s as exciting as the first two episodes is making it out to be.

The show is slick and has a distinct and fresh energy that makes it an intriguing watch. It may be bogged down if it leans too heavily on the romance aspect but if it handles it the same way it handles all the other narrative aspects of the first two episodes, this might be a very enjoyable watch.

  • New Limited Series FX’s ‘Dying for Sex’ Premieres Exclusively on Disney+ This April 4

New Limited Series FX’s ‘Dying for Sex’ Premieres Exclusively on Disney+ This April 4

Disney+ recently announced that FX’s “Dying for Sex, ” a new limited series starring Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate and an extraordinary cast, will premiere on April 4 exclusively on Disney+. All eight episodes will be available at premiere.

    Dying for Sex

FX’s “Dying for Sex” is inspired by the story of Molly Kochan, originally shared on a Wondery podcast created with her best friend, Nikki Boyer. After Molly (Michelle Williams) receives a diagnosis of Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, she decides to leave her husband, Steve (Jay Duplass), and begins to explore the full breadth and complexity of her sexual desires for the first time in her life.

Gird yourself, Molly has a lot to accomplish in the little time she has left. There’s no time for pearl clutching or passing judgement, Molly has no interest in what you think about her proverbial bucket list (btw, this phrase will always provoke an eye roll). She gains the courage to embark on this adventure from her ride or die Nikki (Jenny Slate), a woman whose love and devotion will compel you to pick up the phone and call that friend already! Also joining the cast are Rob Delaney, Kelvin Yu, David Rasche, Esco Jouléy and Sissy Spacek.

FX’s “Dying for Sex” is written and co-created by Kim Rosenstock and Elizabeth Meriwether, who also serve as executive producers along with Katherine Pope, Kathy Ciric, Wondery’s Hernan Lopez, Jen Sargent, Marshall Lewy and Aaron Hart, Michelle Williams, Nikki Boyer, Shannon Murphy and Leslye Headland. “Dying for Sex” is produced by 20th Television.

Robust parental controls ensure that Disney+ remains a suitable viewing experience for everyone in the family. Subscribers can set access limits on mature content and create PIN-protected profiles alongside the already existing Junior Mode profiles to give parents and guardians peace of mind.

Don’t miss “Dying for Sex,” streaming on Disney+ beginning April 4.

  • Disney+ Streaming Review — ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Justifies Why We Need Another Spider-Man Show in Its First Six Episodes

Disney+ Streaming Review — ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Justifies Why We Need Another Spider-Man Show in Its First Six Episodes

Another Spider-man on the screen? Sure, it’s not a movie, but we’ve already had three in the last two and half decades (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland) on the big screen and we even have Miles Morales in the two brilliant, animated films ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ and ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.’ There are probably even more on streaming networks for series that I’m not aware of. But with Disney+ spending quite a bit on the marketing of their latest release, ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’, there was something about the animation style and the innocence of the trailer that got to me.

Luckily, I was able to catch the first 6 episodes of the first season and I was very much charmed by the whole alternate timeline.

Not set in the “sacred timeline” of the MCU, ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ shares a different origin story for Peter Parker and how he becomes the web-slinger. As young high school freshman, the show really emphasizes his youth and innocence. The relationships he builds in school and the way that he juggles classes, his internship at Oscorp, and crime-fighting are what makes Peter such an interesting character. Oftentimes, you could get annoyed at how someone so young could put so much unto his plate, but you forget that that is power of youth: the idealism and hope that pervades into their every being. This Peter is the epitome of that.

But all versions of Spider-Man reflect different approaches to this idealism and explores different ways by which Peter Parker is a hero. What is refreshing in this presentation is how Peter Parker is not suffering alone, not completely. As the episodes unfold, we see a surprising number of people who figures out his identity early on – and they are really surprising bunch – and all of sudden, Peter Parker has the support that he needs; something he never really got from the different versions of the story except Tom Holland’s. But while Holland’s support and mentor comes from Iron Man himself, this iteration has him mentored by someone whose story is being rewritten by this alternate timeline. It’s just as complex as Tony Stark but adds a new layer and sheen to the show.

Also, the support cast is quite engaging: from his best friend Nico Minoru and his crush Pearl Pangan (yes, she’s Filipina!) to his surprisingly refreshing jock-lab partner Lonnie Lincoln. The Osborns are definitely in the show – both Harry and Norman – but the way their characters are written here are completely out of type (or so it appears).

The whole DNA of Spider-Man, at least when I was collecting comics back in the 80s and 90s, was that Spider-Man was always the hero who had to support himself. He worked at a job that despised his alter ego (J Jonah Jameson of The Daily Bugle) and he always had to juggle work and surviving while being so powerful and funny and carefree as the Spider-Man. Some of that changed with the MCU version, with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man being given support from Iron Man. But here, seeing the support that Peter Parker gets from his friends and the people who end up knowing about him is quite a different variation that feels more aligned with the times.

The world is so crazy now and the younger generation seem more adaptable to change and to strangeness. The way that Spider-Man seems to interact with this world feels so at pace with where things are now on a social spectrum. Before, Spider-Man was easily defamed by J Jonah Jameson. Here, Jameson is nowhere in sight and Spider-Man seems loved by the people. Again, this feels right up this world’s alley.

Disney+ Streaming Review of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man by Wanggo Gallaga

I’m excited to see how all of this unfolds, especially knowing how some of these characters are going to be in the future. From their names alone, you know who they are going to end up, if you are savvy with the comic book world. I was expecting to question why the need for another Spider-Man show or movie but this one, much like Miles Morales in the ‘Into the Spider-verse’ Spider-Man, justifies its own existence by showing us what it is that this character can be representative of. That young man who wants to do so much to fix the world that really isn’t his problem to fix.
