TELUS Digital Philippines Earns Two Anvil Awards for Employee Engagement and Community Advocacy

TELUS Digital Philippines, a provider of digitally enabled customer experience and business process solutions, earned two Silver Anvil Awards at the 61st Anvil Awards for initiatives under its TELUS Days of Giving program. Now in its 18th year, the program has strengthened employee engagement across its sites and supported community advocacy across the Philippines. Presented by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), the Anvil Awards are considered the nation’s most prestigious recognition for public relations programs that demonstrate excellence in strategy, execution, and measurable impact across industries.

TELUS Digital Philippines was honored for two initiatives: one that revitalized employee engagement through strategic communication and another that translated volunteer participation into acts of bayanihan across communities nationwide. TELUS Days of Giving is a global volunteer movement across the TELUS Corporation inviting team members to contribute their time and support causes related to education, health, and disaster response.

“TELUS Days of Giving has always been about creating space for our people to support communities beyond the workplace,” said Pia Gajasan, Senior Manager for Communications in Asia Pacific at TELUS Digital. “These awards reflect how consistent participation, dialogue, and shared ownership helped sustain that purpose by turning long-term involvement into meaningful action, even after 18 years.”

Revitalizing an 18-Year Legacy of Giving

In the Employee Engagement category, TELUS Digital Philippines was recognized for showing how two-way communication can sustain employee participation over time.

Facing potential risks for program fatigue after nearly two decades, the initiative provided a refreshed way of communicating TELUS Days of Giving internally. Instead of relying on one-way announcements, the program shifted toward storytelling, dialogue, and co-creation, transforming channels into active spaces for feedback, recognition, and shared ownership.

The new approach yielded measurable results. Employee participation reached 48%, with over 12,200 team members dedicating over 20,400 volunteer hours  for TELUS Days of Giving initiatives nationwide last year. These efforts impacted more than 31,500 beneficiaries across communities and were supported by grants and donations totaling PHP19 million. Most importantly, the refreshed narrative strengthened employees’ connection to the company’s purpose and its 18-year legacy of giving back to the community.

Turning Workdays into Acts of Bayanihan

In the Advocacy, Public Awareness, and Cause-Related Campaigns category, the company was recognized for initiatives that mobilized employees to support community needs beyond the workplace. The award recognized how the company extended its employee-driven culture into broader community action, engaging thousands in addressing gaps in education, health, environmental sustainability, and digital readiness across the country.

Through year-round volunteer programs, fundraising efforts, and partnerships with NGOs and local organizations, TELUS Days of Giving has evolved into a platform for collective impact. From literacy programs and school refurbishments, to digital safety education and disaster relief, TELUS Days of Giving showcases how private sector organizations can contribute meaningfully to social development while raising public awareness and civic participation.

The two Silver Anvil wins highlight TELUS Digital Philippines’ belief that engagement is built not just through long-standing programs, but by ensuring our advocacy is strategically communicated and every team member feels genuinely involved.

By aligning employee experience with community impact, the company continues to demonstrate how organizations can embed giving into daily work where purpose is upheld, participation is voluntary, and bayanihan remains a core value rather than just a seasonal campaign.

  • TELUS International Philippines Celebrates Pride Month in Style with a Spotlight on Self-Expression

Through their participation in and sponsorship of multiple Pride Month parades and in-person and virtual events and activities to foster an inclusive workplace culture, TIP has demonstrated its long standing support for the LGBTQIA+ community since the company’s inception in 2005. This year, one of TIP’s Pride events was dedicated to self-expression, enabling the community to celebrate their authentic selves through a Design Your Own Pride Jacket activity and fashion show.

Celebrating Pride Month in 2022 through Fashion and Personal Expression

“Coming together to celebrate Pride Month has become an annual tradition for TELUS International Philippines. This year, one of the ways we wanted to share our fun and diverse culture is through a highly engaging event that’s focused on expressing oneself through fashion and finding pride in one’s style,” said Warren Tait, Global Vice President of Brand, Marketing, Culture and Facilities at TELUS International.

    Design Activity

With the Design Your Own Pride Jacket activity, attendees had an opportunity to express their most authentic selves freely by creating art out of a jacket. Each was provided with a denim jacket along with design materials, such as Pride-themed clothing patches, pins, and buttons.

In collaboration with SoFA Design Institute, a proud partner of TIP in providing opportunities for further education via the TELUS International University, design instructor and respected fashion designer, Fred Telarma, led the activity and shared his insights on self-expression and fashion design. He also delivered a live demo for designing your own Pride denim jacket, allowing attendees to learn design techniques.

“Pride Month to me is about expressing and celebrating your authentic self in any way you want. And I believe that fashion can be a powerful tool for self-expression. Fashion is performance art, which allows us to produce clothing that speaks and walks with a message—conveying a story at every turn,” shared Fred Telarma, Design Instructor at SoFA Design Institute.

As part of sharing TIP’s fun culture, attendees showcased their personalized jackets in a fashion show as if they were walking down the runway.

Empowering LGBTQIA+ Members in the Workplace

“At TELUS International Philippines, we are committed to building a caring company culture that champions diversity, inclusion, and belonging, ensuring all our team members feel supported and valued. Since 2014, our team member resource group, Spectrum Philippines, has provided our team members from the LGBTQIA+ community a platform for making the workplace culture more accepting, and the benefits and facilities more inclusive,” said Tait.

Spectrum Philippines has become a venue for a healthy exchange of ideas and open conversations that enables TIP team members to share their experiences in a safe and comfortable environment. It continues to embrace diversity programs and guarantees that the unique needs of the LGBTQIA+ community are considered and represented in workplace programs.

Aside from being an active member of organizations like the Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride (PFIP) and participating industry activities that support the LGBTQIA+ community, TELUS International Philippines and Spectrum have celebrated Pride Month in the past by hosting a series of learning sessions and developing initiatives with a focus on SOGIE, HIV awareness, and the struggles of being an LGBTQIA+ individual in the Philippines.

“During the height of the pandemic, TIP and Spectrum were able to organize transition our activities to a virtual setup – hosting everything from virtual binge-watching parties of movies, TV shows, and concerts that celebrate Pride, to having a soju and SOGIE 101 virtual activity,” shared Bogs Orial, Spectrum Philippines Officer and TIP team member. “With the lifting of pandemic restrictions, our team members are now trying to rediscover and reassert their identity and personal styles.”

“TIP and Spectrum have always strived to encourage members of the LGBTQIA+ community to feel confident in themselves. We create safe spaces which amplify the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community members in society, ensuring all their concerns and unique needs are addressed. We also support them by providing a multitude of opportunities for expressing their true selves and pursuing their passions, including our year long diversity and inclusion programs,” explained Shey Cruz, TELUS International Philippines team member and Spectrum co-chair.

Spectrum has been a prominent influence of positive change in the workplace, championing team member support systems like, the extension of HMO coverage to dependents, domestic partners, and same-sex partners of team members, the availability of gender-neutral, self-identified male and female washrooms across all sites, the use of preferred first names and pronouns in company communication and events, and non-binary clothing policies.

“As a proud trans woman, I really appreciate how I can freely express my identity at work. Whether it’s respecting my preferred name and pronouns, not limiting our fashion choices to the traditional clothing for those born male or female, and providing education about respect, diversity and inclusion for leaders and team members alike, I know I can come to work as my genuine self at TELUS International Philippines”, shared Cruz.

“TELUS International Philippines team members’ day-to-day experiences have vastly improved because of the small but consistent changes and the current initiatives focused on diversity and inclusion—enabling a safe, open and accepting work environment. We are also very proud of the large ally community in our office, who continually support and espouse equal rights together with our LGBTQIA+ team members,” said Tait.

At TELUS International Philippines, the celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community continues beyond the month of June and is lived in the company’s culture. The company is hosting multiple activities to celebrate Pride including the second run of their Ready, Set, Drag intersite contest, a fundraising activity to support the Love Yourself Foundation, and Ted Talks style sessions about LGBTQIA+ excellence and leadership.

A recent addition in the company’s series of engagement activities was a recipe competition for team members across the TELUS International Philippines, Chengdu (China), and India delivery centers. The prize? To be featured in the first-ever TELUS International diversity cookbook of winning recipes entitled A Taste of Diversity.

“Many of our most treasured moments involve sharing a meal with loved ones,” shares Rajiv M.Dhand, Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific at TELUS International.

“Breaking bread has always been a tradition that brings people together and is the simplest, most universal expression of love and community. At a time when it is so easy to feel isolated and disconnected because of the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to create a cookbook that can be a catalyst for bonding with each other, even from a distance,” he added.

Adding to the prestige was the chance for one’s recipe to be chosen by an impressive line-up of seasoned culinary experts who decided on the contents of the cookbook. The board of judges consisted of Royal Indian Curry House’s Chef Surat Rana, a veteran who has held top culinary positions with leading hotel chains and was awarded the Netizen’s Best Choice Award in 2018; Chinese Chef Sheng Tian, who has built his career as a consultant in Chinese cuisine specialized in Cantonese, Lu, Zhe and Chuan cuisines; and Filipino Chef RJ Ungco, a respected culinary expert in the Philippine food and restaurant industry who, after a celebrated run with five-star restaurants in Manila, now runs his own culinary business.

The competition kicked off with a virtual recipe writing workshop and food photography 101 session facilitated by respected Philippine culinary expert, Chef RJ Ungco and DiscoverMNL founder, Lucky Alabado.

Over 150 team members responded to the request for original Indian, Philippine and Chinese recipes, but only 60 emerged winners across five categories: soups, salads, appetizers, main course, and desserts.

“I was truly amazed with the creativity, talent, love, and passion the participants showed in their products. Great job, guys! Awesome job to the minds behind this project!” remarked Chef RJ Ungco.
