Championing Local Stories with Global Appeal

Sinag Maynila was founded by Solar Studios, Inc. President Wilson Y. Tieng and internationally acclaimed filmmaker Brillante Ma Mendoza, the first Filipino to win Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival. Since its inception, the festival has aimed to amplify films that present authentic Filipino voices while connecting with audiences worldwide.

This year’s theme, “Sine Lokal, Pang-Internasyonal,” emphasizes that mission—showcasing narratives rooted in local realities yet capable of resonating across borders.

The enthusiasm surrounding the festival continues to grow. For its eighth edition, more than 400 film submissions were received, marking a new milestone for Sinag Maynila and highlighting the thriving creativity of Filipino filmmakers.

Equally noteworthy is the Student category, which continues to flourish with entries from over 30 schools across the Philippines. These emerging filmmakers bring fresh perspectives and fearless storytelling to the festival’s expanding platform.
