Filipino cinema is making another remarkable mark on the global stage!
Fresh from its historic selection at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Lawrence Fajardo’s gripping drama Silenced Nights is heading to North Macedonia as the first Filipino feature film to compete at the Skopje International Film Festival.

The festival’s 26th edition runs from November 4 to 9, 2026, bringing together international filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts for a celebration of compelling storytelling.
Fajardo is expected to travel to North Macedonia to personally represent the film, connect with international audiences, and participate in festival discussions.

A Gripping Story of Survival in Manila
Set against the gritty streets of Tondo, Manila, Silenced Nights explores the unsettling realities of urban survival, morality, and the pursuit of justice.
At the center of the story is an ordinary laborer, portrayed by Nico Antonio, whose life takes a terrifying turn after he accidentally witnesses a brutal killing.

Suddenly caught in a dangerous situation he never asked for, the laborer faces difficult moral choices as he struggles to survive.
Inspired by real-world struggles for justice, the film examines what happens when an ordinary person is confronted with extraordinary danger. How far can someone go to protect themselves when doing the right thing comes at a devastating cost?
With its raw storytelling and emotionally charged premise, Silenced Nights offers a powerful look at fear, accountability, and the human instinct for survival.
A Stellar Filipino Ensemble Brings the Story to Life
Leading the film is Nico Antonio, supported by an impressive ensemble of Filipino performers.
The cast includes Lotlot de Leon, Ina Feleo, Joel Saracho, Tanya Gomez, Dylan Ray Talon, Jorrybell Agoto, Simon Ibarra, Mario Magallona, Rom Factolerin, Soliman Cruz, Hector Macaso, Raul Morit, Bombi Plata, Apollo Abraham, DMs Boongaling, Mae Paner, Tess Jamias, Timothy Castillo, Kenken Nuyad, Micko Laurente, Enzo Osorio, and newcomer Aquisha Tombiga.

Behind the camera, Fajardo teams up with screenwriter Troy Espiritu and director of photography Albert Banzon.
The production also brings together executive producers Atty. Joji Alonso, Perci Intalan, Hsin-Hung Tsai, and Vincent Wang, alongside producers Ferdy Lapuz and Patricia Sumagui.
A Global Collaboration for Filipino Storytelling
Adding to the film’s international appeal, Silenced Nights is a co-production involving Quantum Films (Philippines), House on Fire (France), and House on Fire International (Taiwan).

The project was developed with support from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), reflecting the growing opportunities for Filipino filmmakers to collaborate with international production partners.
This cross-border effort brings a distinctly Filipino story to a wider audience while highlighting the country’s creative talent on the global film circuit.
From Toronto to Skopje: A Historic Journey for Philippine Cinema
Before its upcoming appearance in North Macedonia, Silenced Nights had already achieved a significant milestone at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.
The drama became the first Filipino feature selected for TIFF’s Platform competition, a highly selective, juried section recognizing distinctive filmmaking voices from around the world.

Now, with its selection at the Skopje International Film Festival, the film adds another exciting chapter to its international journey.
More than a festival achievement, Silenced Nights shines a spotlight on Filipino storytelling and its ability to resonate with audiences beyond the Philippines.
As the film heads to Skopje, one thing is clear: powerful Filipino stories continue to find their place on the world stage.
