Caleb McLaughlin Voices a Small Goat With Big Dreams in Sony Pictures Animation’s “GOAT,” in Cinemas February 11

A Small Goat Ready to Take on a Big League

In a world where the biggest animals dominate the biggest sport, one small goat is ready to challenge the rules. GOAT, the latest animated feature from Sony Pictures Animation, introduces audiences to an all-animal universe where roarball reigns supreme—and size often decides success. At the center of the action is Will Harris, a gifted young player whose passion for the game burns brighter than any doubt thrown his way.

    GOAT Will2

Will has heard it all before: “smalls don’t ball.” Still, armed with talent, confidence, and an unshakable dream, he refuses to be sidelined. His goal is simple yet daring—to play alongside his heroes and prove that heart matters just as much as strength.

Caleb McLaughlin Finds Meaning in Will’s Journey

Voicing Will is Caleb McLaughlin, widely known for his work on Stranger Things. The actor saw an immediate connection between himself and the determined young goat.

“Will is a hero in his own world,” says McLaughlin. “He’s got this bigger vision for himself and for the people he loves, and that’s what keeps him going. He’s inspired by the role models around him, and I totally connect to that idea of being on a personal quest with a lot of heart behind it.”

That emotional bond translates into a performance filled with warmth, confidence, and authenticity—making Will a character audiences can root for from start to finish.

    Watch the Trailer here:

    A Reflection of Today’s Youth

Director Tyree Dillihay describes Will as a symbol of the younger generation—driven, passionate, and unafraid to chase dreams without a clear path.

“He represents the youth generation,” Dillihay says. “He doesn’t have a route to get there but he’s hungry, passionate, hardheaded. He wears an armor of courage and strength and go-get-it-ness. I love that about Will.”

Will’s journey mirrors the reality many young dreamers face today: uncertain roads, loud doubts, and the courage to keep moving anyway.

    Building Will’s Confidence and Swag

Head of Character Animation Daniel Pozo and his team had a blast shaping Will’s movements and attitude. Inspired by basketball legends and McLaughlin’s on-screen presence, they crafted a character who radiates confidence.

“He’s a teenager with a lot of confidence—he’s got swag,” says Pozo. “We looked at references like Kobe Bryant when he was in high school and Caleb’s own movie performances. He exudes so much confidence in how he walks. We started with that and layered in these idiosyncratic behaviors that basketball players tend to have—they seem to always have a ball passing between their hands, always in movement.”

From the way he walks to how he handles the ball, Will’s animation reflects a player who knows he belongs on the court.

Adding Personality, One Quirk at a Time

For McLaughlin, part of the fun was shaping Will’s small but memorable traits.

“One of the most fun parts for me was finding Will’s signature moments—like his unique laugh or those improv bits that really capture his personality,” says McLaughlin. “I think everyone has their own version of that little signature quirk—their own goat ‘baa,’ if you will. Discovering Will’s personal touch really made those scenes enjoyable.”

These playful touches give Will extra charm and make his journey feel genuine and relatable.

    More Than a Sports Story

Co-director Adam Rosette believes GOAT speaks to anyone who has ever held onto a dream, whether it involves sports or not.

“It represents what it’s like to have a dream, not only what it’s like to play sports,” he says. “It’s about Will’s dream, which just happens to be becoming a pro roarball player. If you’ve ever had a dream—something that you aspire to be—this movie is for you. There’s heart, there’s hustle and humor.”

An All-Star Cast Brings the Game to Life

Joining McLaughlin is an impressive lineup of voice talent led by Gabrielle Union (Bring It On, 10 Things I Hate About You) as Jett Fillmore, a roarball icon and the athlete Will looks up to the most. The film also features voices from Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Nick Kroll (Sing, Sausage Party), David Harbour (Stranger Things, Thunderbolts), and basketball superstar Stephen Curry, who also serves as one of the film’s producers.

From Sony Pictures Animation—the studio behind Spider-Man™: Across the Spider-Verse—and the artists who made KPop Demon Hunters, GOAT tells the story of Will as he earns a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the pros and compete in roarball. The sport is fast, physical, co-ed, and dominated by the biggest and fiercest animals around.

Naturally, Will’s new teammates aren’t convinced that a small goat belongs on their roster. Skepticism runs high, confidence is tested, and the pressure mounts. Still, fueled by passion and belief, Will sets out to challenge expectations, shake up the game, and prove that talent and heart matter just as much as size. Along the way, the film delivers laughs, thrills, and a powerful reminder that determination can change everything.

Stephen Curry Brings Heart, Hustle, and Hoops Energy to Animated Film “GOAT”

Smalls Can Ball—and This Time, It’s Animated

Smalls can ball, and GOAT is ready to make that message loud and clear. The latest animated feature from Sony Pictures Animation, the studio behind the visually stunning Spider-Verse films and KPop Demon Hunters, delivers a fresh, feel-good sports story filled with humor, heart, and hustle.

At the center of the action is Will, a small goat with enormous dreams, voiced by Caleb McLaughlin. When he gets the once-in-a-lifetime chance to play professional roarball—a high-octane sport ruled by the biggest and fiercest animals—Will must prove that size doesn’t define skill, courage, or destiny.

    Watch the Trailer here:

Stephen Curry’s Personal Connection to the Story

Four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry, who serves as a producer on GOAT, saw his own journey reflected in Will’s struggle.

“My journey resembles Will’s—being overlooked, underrated—but finding your self-confidence through it all. It’s about the power of the team.”

Beyond personal experience, Curry was drawn to the film’s message about teamwork and community.

“No matter what walk of life, you can’t do anything great without the people around you. It’s cool to bring that into ‘GOAT,’ knowing how relatable it is—not just to my story, but to everybody.”

Bringing Sports Culture to the Big Screen

Curry also wanted GOAT to feel authentic to sports culture, translating life on the court into animation. From stylish accessories and expressive fashion to a carefully curated soundtrack, the film captures the rhythm and personality of athletic life.

“We included the accessories, the clothes, a dope soundtrack–the cultural references that everybody can laugh at and appreciate,” he says. “This is a timeless story–if you watch it 20 years from now, you’ll go back to a moment in time. We’re super excited to have those relatable references throughout the entire movie.”

    Why Underdog Stories Never Miss

For Caleb McLaughlin, Will’s journey resonates on a deeply human level.

“I think underdog stories hit people because we’ve all felt like underdogs at some point,” he says. “We all start from a low place and have to push through our own version of concrete. And when you finally reach a goal, you remember the moments you struggled, or wanted to give up, but didn’t.”

McLaughlin believes the film speaks to viewers when they need it most—right when doubt creeps in.

“People doubt you along the way, and I think audiences relate to that. These stories usually find people right at the moment they feel like quitting, and watching an underdog win reminds them to keep going.”

Inside the Wild World of Roarball

Roarball is no ordinary sport. Set across diverse environments—from tropical jungles to frozen tundras—the game allows animals to use every physical advantage they have.

“They can make use of all of their animal attributes,” says producer Michelle Raimo Kouyate. “They run on two paws, four paws, use their tails, horns, snouts, wings, tongues—anything goes.”

    But with danger comes discrimination.

“In our world, there’s no difference between bigs and smalls as far as the culture is concerned,” says co-producer David Schulenburg. “But roarball is so dangerous—the pace, the terrains—the idea that a small goat would play the game is just unheard of.”

    GOAT 2

A Story About Dreams, Not Just Sports

For co-director Adam Rosette, GOAT goes beyond competition.

With humor, emotion, and relentless optimism, GOAT celebrates believing in yourself—even when no one else does.

Watch Out, Roarball: Sony’s ‘GOAT’ Trailer Unleashes a Tiny Hero with Huge Dreams

The Underdog Story We’ve All Been Waiting For

Sometimes, the smallest players have the biggest impact — and in GOAT, the latest animated feature from Sony Pictures Animation, one determined little goat is out to prove just that.

Sony has officially dropped the first trailer for GOAT, an original action-comedy set in a wild, all-animal world. The film follows Will, a small but spunky goat with big dreams of going pro in roarball — a high-energy, full-contact sport ruled by the fiercest animals on the planet.

    Watch the Trailer now:

A Sports Saga with Serious Swagger

From the award-winning studio that brought audiences Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and the kinetic energy of KPop Demon Hunters, GOAT introduces an all-new animated universe where animals rule the court — and the stakes are as high as the hype.

Though small in stature, Will is brimming with guts, goals, and grit. When he lands an unexpected shot at joining a professional roarball team, his size becomes both his biggest challenge — and possibly his greatest strength.

But his new teammates? Let’s just say they’re not exactly thrilled to have a goat on the roster.

From the Hardwood to Hollywood: Stephen Curry Joins the Game

NBA superstar Stephen Curry isn’t just lending his voice to GOAT — he’s also one of the film’s producers, bringing his championship-winning spirit to the screen. Curry is joined by a powerhouse team of creatives and a cast that delivers big on personality.

    What the Heck is Roarball?

In the world of GOAT, roarball is the sport of champions — a fast-paced, co-ed, contact-heavy mashup of basketball, football, and sheer chaos. The elite teams are made up of apex predators and agile animals — and it’s definitely no place for a goat.

    Or is it?

Armed with nothing but raw determination and killer footwork, Will is set on rewriting the rules of the game and showing the world that “smalls can ball.”

    GOAT 1

    Heart, Humor, and Hooves

What sets GOAT apart isn’t just its explosive animation or hilarious character designs — it’s the film’s heart. Will’s journey is more than just a sports story. It’s a celebration of being underestimated, rising above doubt, and finding your place in the world.

Packed with action, comedy, and crowd-pleasing charm, GOAT promises to be one of 2026’s most entertaining family films.
