Garmin introduces its first large-format dive computer: Descent X50i

Garmin has updated its Descent range with the announcement of the Descent™ X50i, its largest dive computer with a vivid 3” color touchscreen display1.

Using SubWave™ sonar technology, divers can use Descent X50i to communicate with one another underwater and monitor each other’s tank pressure, depth, and distance to keep tabs on one another when visibility may be limited2. They can also explore greater depths with an integrated backup dive light, 20 ATM dive rating, and leakproof metal buttons.

“Whether scuba diving, cave diving or seeking out shipwrecks, we know how important it is to have the most accurate data at all times. Featuring a big, bright display and 20 ATM dive rating, the new Descent X50i is the perfect dive computer for technical divers and a great option for recreational divers who want to clearly see key stats and critical information while exploring the underwater landscape.” – Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of Global Consumer Sales

    Dive-focused design

Boasting a vibrant 3” color display, Descent X50i makes it easier to read more data at a glance. The touchscreen helps make setup simple and is great for navigating maps and settings to prepare for the next adventure. To take on the most technical dives, Descent X50i includes a strong sapphire lens, leakproof metal buttons and a backup dive light that is bright enough to be used while underwater. Dual elastic bands fit comfortably and securely around the wrist and feature buckles with an arrowhead attachment for easy one-handed closure while an adjustment lock can prevent slipping.

    Explore the depths

Designed by divers for divers, Descent X50i is ready for the next underwater excursion.

    • Air integration: Keep track of your tank’s air pressure when paired with a Descent T2 transceiver.
    • Monitor other divers: See tank pressure, depth and distance of up to eight divers who are using a Descent T2 transceiver, up to 10 meters away2.
    • Diver-to-diver messaging: Using SubWave technology, send preset messages to other connected divers, up to 30 meters away2.
    • DiveViewTM maps: Plan the next dive with preloaded bathymetric depth contours and over 4,000 dive sites worldwide.
    • In-dive depth chart and history: View depth history in real-time to better understand the locations that have already been explored and how they will affect the decompression plan.
    • Ascent dive profile: Visualize an ascent plan through the Projected Ascent data field, which shows a projected depth profile associated with the current Time-To-Surface (TTS). The chart also plots depth over time and displays decompression stops and gas switches.
    • Tide data: Before heading out, check nearby tide data3 to stay up to date on ocean conditions.
    • Dive compass: Navigate above (and below) the water with a 3D dive compass.

Visit our YouTube page to see how Descent x50i can help you dive right in.

    Above-the-surface utility

Once divers are back on dry land, the dive log lets them review data, track gear, take notes and share details via their Garmin Dive™ app. They can also use the carrying case to store their Descent X50i in between dives. To prepare for their next dive, users can take advantage of built-in GPS to navigate to over 4,000 preloaded dive site locations from around the world or add extra details – like points of interest – to dive sites with DiveView maps, an extension of the preloaded TopoActive maps. Surface GPS can also help users track their surface entry and exit points with advanced satellite connectivity.

The Garmin Descent X50i will be available beginning January 23 for PHP 94,990. This innovative device offers excellent ranging performance and introduces the Range Relay feature, which sends ranged distances to a compatible Garmin smartwatch or the Garmin Golf smartphone app. Once the target has been locked in by the Approach® Z30, the ranged distance and a laser range arc will display on the paired Garmin device to give players a visual indication of the pin position and everything in play around it.

    Approach Z30 Newsroom PR Image

Designed to provide golfers with even more situational awareness on the course, the Approach Z30 delivers fast and precise distance readings1 up to 400 yards away, gives players six times magnification through the viewfinder and vibrates once it locks in on the pin.

“Golfers will love using the Approach Z30, which seamlessly integrates with many other products in Garmin’s ecosystem. You’ll never have to guess your distance to the pin as the Z30 provides quick and accurate measurements and displays them on your compatible smartwatch or smartphone. It’s also an excellent standalone device with its speed and accuracy, making it an exceptional addition for any golfer.” –Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of Global Consumer Sales

    Elevate your game

Golfers of all skill levels will enjoy the on-course features to help them find more precise distances and have confidence that they’re selecting the correct club.

    • Key information: View distance from the pin and to the front and back of the green to help gauge how to play a shot2.
    • PlaysLike distance: See how far each shot should actually play with yardage adjusted for elevation changes. For an even greater level of accuracy, pair with a compatible device to receive PlaysLike distance that factors in air density, which affects how far a ball will travel.
    • Garmin golf ecosystem: Make the most of the Range Relay feature by pairing the Approach Z30 with the Garmin Golf App, or popular smartwatches including Approach S70, Approach S62, Approach S42, fēnix® 7 series, epix®(Gen 2) series, MARQ® (Gen 2) collection and more.

Designed with all types of golf weather in mind, Approach® Z30 is built with an IPX7 water rating, allowing it to withstand light to steady rain, wind and sunlight. The range finder also features a replaceable battery with exceptional life, providing players with up to a full year of use.

Using the slope information, golfers can figure out how much the ball will release after pitching, know which side of the pin is better to putt from and know the best miss for worst-case scenarios.

  • Garmin Celebrates 20 Years of the Forerunner, The World’s First GPS Smartwatch

Garmin is commemorating 20 years of Forerunner, the world’s first GPS smartwatch designed to help runners adopt accurate and sophisticated data to train safely, achieve personal bests and reach new heights.

Garmin first set foot in the aviation industry with cutting-edge GPS navigation products in 1989 and expanded into automotive, marine, outdoor products and subsequently fitness wearables in 2003, with the launch of the world’s first running smartwatch – the Forerunner 201.

    Forerunner 265 and 965

Every Run Starts Here – Forerunner for Runners

For the past 20 years, the Forerunner series has been providing runners with precise data analysis – the running smartwatch tracks a runner’s precise positioning while analyzing data including distance, speed, elevation gain as well as heart rate, blood oxygen and more.

In 2022 alone, there were over 320,000 new Forerunner users across Asia. Despite the global pandemic, running activities clocked by Garmin users in Asia grew by 24 percent from 2020 to 2022, with Vietnam, Indonesia and India in the lead with the most growth, demonstrating the unstoppable love for running in Asia.

“From the first time a Garmin engineer awkwardly strapped a GPS device to a wrist, the Forerunner series has evolved into a trusty companion for all runners around the world. We remain committed to achieving our personal best by delivering innovative technological breakthroughs to push users to their personal bests,” said Mr. Scoppen Lin, Assistant General Manager, Garmin Asia.

Likening runners to planets tracing their own orbit, revolving around their common passion for running, every runner is in pursuit of their individual fitness goals and to take on bigger challenges.

    Empowering Runners with Running Science

Committed to expanding on Garmin’s expertise in GPS navigation technology and combining it with industry leading smart technology, Garmin has utilized Firstbeat Analytics for more than a decade before acquiring the industry-leading physiological analytics companies in the world.

Developments through the years include Heart Rate Variability (HRV) sensor data to provide the most advanced analysis and metrics in the areas of stress, sleep, maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 Max), training status/load, training effectiveness, and respiration rate.

This allowed Garmin to empower users with the most advanced and accurate health and performance data to make more efficient and data-driven decisions during training and recovery.

In conjunction with this momentous celebration, Garmin has released their most powerful Forerunner smartwatches yet, the Forerunner 265 and 965 today.

    Forerunner 965

    Forerunner 965 Series

The Forerunner 965 is equipped with a titanium bezel, a 1.4-inch AMOLED display and an amazing battery life of up to 23 days on smartwatch mode. It currently holds the record for having the world’s longest battery life for a running watch with an AMOLED display.

Unique to the Forerunner 965, the watch comes equipped with the Stamina and Acute Chronic Workload Ration features to track and help users manage their physical exertion throughout a run, to prevent “bonking” by overexerting too early in a run and to determine overall training load metrics for proper training scheduling respectively.

This smartwatch is designed for marathon and triathlon enthusiasts who will benefit from features like Wrist-Based Running Dynamics, where users can access detailed metric through on-wrist running dynamics including stride length, vertical oscillation directly from the watch in real-time.

The forerunner 965 series will be available in the Philippines starting April 2023.

    Forerunner 265

    Forerunner 265 Series

On the other hand, the Forerunner 265 comes with a Ground Gorilla Glass 4 lens, with an option of 1.3-inch AMOLED display, featuring a battery life of up to 13 days or 1.1-inch AMOLED display (on the Forerunner 265S) featuring a battery life of up to 15 days. Forerunner 265 includes performance monitoring tools from Garmin Firstbeat Analytics like VO2 max, performance condition, training effect and more.

Rigorous and Comprehensive Testing Procedures for Quality Assurance

Designed for runners, by runners, Forerunner 965 and Forerunner 265 series are purpose-built in both form and function to help athletes better plan, prepare, perform and connect.

To ensure that Garmin’s products can keep up with users’ vigorous training regimens, the products are put through diverse extreme tests to simulate real-life usage scenarios, including but not limited to low and high temperature tests, 10-bar stress tests, acceleration detection tests, altimeter tests, repeated drop tests, watch band wear cycle tests. The variety of tests would ensure that customers would experience superior product quality and build.

Getting Runners from Zero to Hero

Garmin places great importance on community – building run communities throughout key Asian cities through Garmin Run Club activities to bring people who love running together.

The Season 3 of the Garmin Run club’s Manila leg started last February and will run until May 2023. Garmin welcomes everyone to join the run club every every Monday and Thursday at 7pm held at Toby’s Sports Bonifacio Global City.

The program is led by three Garmin-accredited Coaches: Precious Que, Jules Aquino, and Jasper Tanhueco. Discover new friends, experience a well-planned running program and run with the Garmin running community!

Run with Garmin and experience their most powerful smarwatches out in the market. The Forerunner 965 retails for Php 37,660.00 while Forerunner 265 is at Php 28,250.00. For more information about Garmin Philippines, visit their website or Facebook page.
