Last weekend, Forecasting Love and Weather wrapped up, leaving us with memories of kilig, frustrations, heartbreaks, and inspiring moments involving the life of weather forecasters. Despite giving us sixteen episodes, we still can’t help but feel that we need to see more of its main stars Song Kang and Park Min-young, and even Yura and Yoon Park! If you’re like us who can’t wait to see them on the screen again, why not join us as we take a look back at the shows that these actors have appeared in in the past!
Nevertheless pairs up Song Kang with Han So-hee. It follows Yoo Na-bi, a student at Hongseo University’s Sculpture Department whose bitter experience in love has made her vow not to fall in love again. This vow is challenged, however, when she meets Park Jae-eon, a charming guy who likes to flirt but only sees romantic relationships as a bother.
Park Min-young and Park Seo-jun lead the cast of the romantic comedy ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?‘. The smart, rich, and handsome Lee Young-joon serves as the vice president of a large company. His secretary, Kim Mi-so, has been with him for years but when she suddenly decides to quit, Young-joon realizes how big her role is in his life and does everything to keep her by his side.
Starring Song Kang, Kim So-hyun, and Jong Ga-ram, Love Alarm‘s romantic story is propelled by the eponymous app that notifies people if someone within 10 meters has romantic feelings for them. Kim Jojo is a high school student who has to deal with a lot of hardships at a young age, and must navigate her relationships with the Love Alarm app changing the world’s landscape for romance.
Another Park Min-young drama, Her Private Life follows the talented chief curator of Cheum Museum of Art, Sung Deok-mi, who is secretly a fangirl of the Korean boy group White Ocean and its member Cha Sian. When rumors that the two are dating start to spread, Deok-mi fakes a relationship with the new gallery director Ryan Gold to avoid the bullying of Sian’s fans. Real romance soon buds between the two.
Starring Song Kang and Park In-hwan, Navillera is an inspiring tale about a 70-year-old man who just retired from his job and wants to pursue his longtime dream of being a ballet dancer despite his family’s disapproval. In his pursuit of this dream, he meets a young man who also aspires to become a ballet dancer but is hindered by life’s challenges.
Another Park Min-young starrer, this Korean drama follows Hye-Won, a cello player whose trauma from people who hurt her emotionally leads her to move back to her hometown Bookhyun Village. Here, she meets Eun-Seob, a bookshop owner who has a simple and peaceful life. When the two collide, their lives are forever changed.
Song Kang plays a very different role in Sweet Home. The Netflix thriller follows the residents of an apartment complex who are trying to survive amid a mysterious phenomenon where human beings transform and become dangerous creatures that manifest their desires. Song Kang plays Cha Hyun-soo, a survivor who is trying to tame the monster within him.
Before Forecasting Love and Weather, Yoon Park and Yura worked together in Radio Romance as Lee Gang and Jin Tae-ri respectively. It follows Kim So-hyun’s Song Geu Rim, a radio program writer with great passion, but lacks talent in writing. When her radio program is on the verge of cancellation, she gets to work with top actor Ji Su-ho who can’t do anything without a script.

Whether you’ve watched and enjoyed the first two episodes already or are still forecasting your feelings if you’re ready to gush over another Korean series, you probably are most curious about the latest loveteam the show has to offer.
Park Min-young who everyone loved for her energy in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim plays the serious chief forecaster Jin Ha-Kyung of the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA), while Song Kang of dramas Navillera and Nevertheless plays the funny and innocent special reporter Lee Si-woo. In this rom-com series, the two would fall for each other while carrying the responsibility of giving the most accurate weather forecast possible.

In a recent roundtable interview with the show’s main stars, we got to ask Park Min-young and Song Kang about their characters, experiences going into the show, and of course, their chemistry together. Check out some of the highlights of the interview below.
What were the challenges you faced in preparation for your roles?
Park Min-young: It was my first try as a public servant, so we had to dress differently because they had stricter rules in public offices so I would wear a long skirt. And the director and the screenwriter also said that I shouldn’t look too dressed up or pretty, so they would prefer me looking [plainer and like Jane Doe], so I would have to wear suits because I’m a chief forecaster. And also about the language, newbies could stutter but because I’m a chief forecaster, everything should come naturally to me so I’m trying really hard not to stutter and so I really practiced my pronunciation, but sometimes I would have bloopers.

Song Kang: Usually, when I would talk about the weather, it was okay. But when I’m in a scene where I’m upset or I’m angry, people tend to speak faster when they’re upset but you have to have the speed plus the terminology has to be correct. So those scenes were really difficult for me because I couldn’t go as fast as I would want to with the terminology. But as I got used to it, I could really express my full emotions even when I’m speaking faster, but that is more towards the end of the show so I really have a lot of respect for the professionals.

How did you two first meet and how did you build your chemistry?
Park Min-young: The first time we’ve met is when the creator Kang Eun-kyung, the director, and us met for the first time. At the time, Song Kang was still in his last work’s character so he had this black halo behind him so I was like ‘uh-oh, what’s going to happen?’ But on the second and third reading of the script, he came as himself, and I knew that the chemistry between us is going to just naturally come to us. And after that, he delved directly into Si-woo, and after he became Si-woo, there was no problem at all. I think Si-woo is like naive and is a pure soul, which is very different from who Ha-kyung– my character– is, so I think this actually gives a lot of chemistry because they’re so different so they actually go together.
Song Kang: This was my first try at a romantic comedy, so I put a lot of thought into it. Really, Min-young solved a lot of my problems for me and as she said, the two characters are really different, and I think, I really like the fact that the two different characters came together and helped each other grow personally.

Working on drama after drama, what do you do to rest and reset before going into another project?
Song Kang: First of all, I like to work out and I also like reading novels. I also build legos and there are miniature houses that I like to build. So I basically do anything that I can at home. I watch dramas, I watch a lot of films. Because when I start working, I spend very little time at home, so I try to do everything that I can at home.
What do you find most interesting about meteorology during filming?
Park Min-young: I saw this documentary and in the documentary, this professional from the Korea Meteorological Administration [spoke] and he has this pure face like Si-woo and he said “If we didn’t forecast rain, but there is rainfall then that is our teardrops.” So when I listened to him, I really felt him and I thought the subject was very appealing to me so I wanted to immerse myself into these people who are really crazily in love with weather.

If you were to choose one season for the entire year, what would it be?
Park Min-young: I would choose spring because I was born in spring and I like the feeling of freshness that spring gives us. It’s like the feeling of starting something new, and there are also cherry blossoms in Korea that bloom in the spring. And my nickname is Spring Park because my personal color is spring so I would choose spring.
Song Kang: My favorite season is winter. I am a homebody, I like to stay home. So when it snows, I like to stay at home and watch it snow outside. I also like wearing a short T-shirt, and when I have a T-shirt on and a padded jacket on, I like the cool feeling that I have on my arms, so I would choose winter.

Before the pilot episode of this series drops tomorrow, we had the chance to virtually attend a press conference for the show which included director Cha Young-hun, and the main cast: Park Min Young, Song Kang, Yoon Bak, and Yura. During the presscon, they talked more about the series, its characters, and how it all came together.
Synopsis
This 16-episode rom-com series follows the “cheerful romance drama” of people at the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The story centers on Jin Ha-Kyung who decides not to commit to an office romance ever again after a brutal breakup. But when the new team member Lee Si-woo arrives, she can’t help but fall for him.
As actress Park Min-young described the series, “It has elements of romance, it has elements of work, growth, and ambition. So it has a diverse array of emotions and elements, and I think this makes the story even more interesting.”

Forecasting Love and Weather is heading to Netflix on Saturday, February 12, 2022, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Two episodes will be released every week on Saturdays and Sundays with a total of 16 episodes.
The Cast and Characters
Forecasting Love and Weather has a star-studded cast K-drama fans would want to watch out for. Park Min-young of What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, Her Private Life, and City Hunter plays Jin Ha-Kyung, the youngest chief forecaster in KMA’s Forecasters’ Division 2.

“I think for the first time, we’re going to get some cold wind from Siberia,” said Min-young, comparing Jin Ha-Kyung with the bubbly characters she played in the past. “She is very cold-headed, she is a stickler to the principles and rules, and she’s not really a very popular character. Work is always first for her, and I think that’s one of the reasons she was dumped by her boyfriend, she’s always about work.”
Meanwhile, Song Kang of Navillera, Love Alarm, Nevertheless, and Sweet Home, stars as the special reporter Lee Si-woo. Kang described his character as “an innocent and very funny guy, but he is down to business about the weather.”

Yoon Bak who starred in You Are My Spring and Itaewon Class will play Ha-kyung’s ex-boyfriend Han Ki-joon, who is the KMA spokesperson director. According to actor Bak, the character “cares a lot about what people think of him,” and is “the worst person.”

Lastly, Yura of Now We Are Breaking Up stars as the daily weather reporter Chae Yoo-jin. “Yoo-jin wants to become successful,” shared Yura. “She is in her 20s, and she has a lot of ambitions, but not everything goes her way so she struggles really hard.”

Getting the Cast Onboard
The series has an exciting roster of stars but what attracted them to join the project? The cast members also answered this question during the press conference. For Park Min-young, it was the uniqueness of the story that got her saying yes.

“I never really knew much about the weather service and I don’t think there’s a series that really delved into this area so I thought that was really crisp-fresh,” said Min-young. But she also shared some of the challenges of doing this series: “If there’s like a medical drama or a legal drama, there are a lot of them so I can learn from the other dramas and series. And I kinda know how they speak and what terminologies they use. But for the weather service, I really had no idea how they spoke and what terminologies there are so it was really difficult to look up the terminologies. So I had to look up documentaries in order to familiarize myself with the service.
“So it was like a big, difficult homework for me. At first, I didn’t think it was too difficult, but now I think this series was one of the most challenging for me. But because it was challenging, I really enjoyed it, and I’m really proud that I pulled it off,” the actress added.

Meanwhile, Song Kang highlighted the humor of the story and how he relates to his character when answering why he got on board for the project. “First I thought the premise of the KMA is very interesting, and while I was reading the script, I think it was very humorous. It was very funny in some parts, so that is why it was really attractive for me. And my character Si-woo is really innocent, naive, and kind of dorky so I think that he resembles me to some extent that’s why I chose this series,” he explained.
Yura also loved the humor, as well as the heart-fluttering parts of the script. “I auditioned twice for Forecasting Love and Weather,” shared the actress. “When I read the script, I was just like an audience reading the script, right? So I read the [first through fourth episodes] in the script and I found myself bursting out in laughter and sometimes my heart would flutter. And then I went to see the director, director Cha is such a nice person. I was really touched by his good heart so I was sure that I wanted to be in this series.”

Yoon Bak, unlike his co-stars actually wanted to say no to the project because of his character. Here’s why he pushed through with the role:
“I have to be frank, right? I don’t want to lie,” the actor began. “The three actors said that the script was fun and that applied to me too. Everyone was so nice except for my character, Han Ki-Joon. He’s like the worst person ever so I really didn’t like him, but they offered me this character. So I had a meeting, and I was going to say no, and I went to see the director, but then the director persuaded me that I should take this part, so that’s why I became a part of this series. But you know, filming was fun and exciting and I could find the evil inside of me coming out, so it’s a very meaningful experience for me as well.
Life and the Weather Side by Side
Asked how the story of Forecasting Love and Weather took shape, director Cha Young-hun explained that it has been in the head of creator and writer Sun Young for a very long time before it was finally brought to life on TV.
“I think it took her about two years to do all the research and for about eight months, she practically lived at the KMA,” revealed Young-hun. “She worked overnight with them for two months, to really get a grasp of what’s happening there and when I talked to her, I felt like the weather and life of people, I think there are many similarities and I found that very interesting.”
“We are not able to know what is going to happen next in our life and that is the same for the weather. Then I put myself in the shoes of the people who have to forecast this unpredictable weather, and I think that was the trigger that interested both the writer and myself to this story. We cannot predict what is going to happen next in our lives, or what’s going to happen in the weather. We sometimes get the wrong gut feeling but we don’t give up. Weather forecasters need to continue to make the weather forecast and people need to continue with their everyday life. And I thought that was very intriguing,” the director added.
