Forget everything you know about bank robberies. In a world where going viral can be just as valuable as getting rich, pulling off the perfect heist might be easier than you think. But getting away with it? That’s another story.

From David Leitch, the acclaimed director behind Bullet Train and The Fall Guy, comes How to Rob a Bank, an explosive action-comedy that gives the classic heist genre a thrilling, social media-savvy makeover.

Starring Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, and John C. Reilly, the film brings high-stakes robberies, outrageous action, and a fresh perspective on crime in the digital age to Philippine cinemas on November 11.

A Bank Heist With a Surprisingly Dangerous Twist

What if robbing a bank wasn’t as difficult as everyone imagined?

That’s the unexpected question that inspired screenwriter Mark Bianculli to rethink the traditional heist movie.

Rather than focusing solely on how criminals pull off a robbery, Bianculli became fascinated by something more intriguing: what motivates an ordinary person to become a bank robber in the first place?

Suddenly the question for me wasn’t just how someone robs a bank, it was why,” screenwriter Mark Bianculli says. “If the barrier to entry is so much lower than most people imagine, what would it take to convince you to cross that line? From there, everything else was born.

That unconventional idea became the foundation for How to Rob a Bank, a film that combines adrenaline-fueled action with sharp observations about modern society.

Meet the Bank Robbers Who Livestream Their Crimes

In How to Rob a Bank, crime isn’t just about making money. It’s also about building an audience.

Leading the chaos is The Wolf, played by Nicholas Hoult, the mastermind behind a crew of bank robbers who livestream their daring heists to an ever-growing online following.

With every robbery, their popularity skyrockets. But the bigger their audience becomes, the more attention they attract from law enforcement.

Enter a seasoned FBI agent, played by John C. Reilly, who enlists the help of a software engineer under house arrest, portrayed by Zoë Kravitz.

As the stakes rise, the line between online spectacle and real-world danger becomes increasingly blurred.

David Leitch Brings His Signature Action Style to the Heist Genre

If there’s one thing audiences can expect from a David Leitch film, it’s spectacular action with plenty of personality.

Known for delivering inventive fight choreography and exhilarating set pieces, Leitch brings his extensive stunt background to films like Bullet Train and The Fall Guy.

Now, he takes that same creative energy into the world of high-tech bank robberies.

David is the right guy because this movie needed style, and David obviously oozes style, Bianculli says.

According to the screenwriter, Leitch wanted more than impressive physical confrontations. He envisioned a story where every character clashes with someone else, every scene carries tension, and every action sequence serves a purpose.

But he also stressed the idea of collision, and not just physical collision. He wanted every character pushing against someone else, every scene to have tension, every set piece to be earned. I always joke that he took my script, plugged it into an amplifier and played the electric version, Bianculli adds.

And with Leitch behind the camera, audiences can look forward to a heist movie packed with thrilling encounters, unexpected twists, and larger-than-life personalities.

A Modern Heist Film That Reflects Our Social Media Obsession

Beyond the explosive action, How to Rob a Bank explores something surprisingly familiar: the power of online attention.

For longtime Leitch collaborator and producer Kelly McCormick, the story stood out because of its connection to the frustrations and conversations shaping today’s society.

McCormick saw an opportunity to create something that felt unmistakably 87North: wildly entertaining, visually exciting, and rooted in timely ideas.

The challenge was bringing those themes to life without sacrificing the fun that audiences expect from a big-screen action comedy.

For Leitch, achieving that balance meant combining two distinct visual worlds: the cinematic spectacle of a Hollywood heist film and the spontaneous, immersive energy of digital content.

Our job was to build one cohesive world out of two very different visual languages, Leitch says. The movie had to feel cinematic, but it also had to feel immediate and authentic to the way this generation creates and consumes media. Every choice we made came back to serving the characters and making those two worlds feel like they belonged together.

The result promises a bank robbery experience where every livestream, every confrontation, and every unexpected move contributes to the excitement.
