  • Sharing the Love: ₱1.2M Donated to PGH Medical Foundation as Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil Extends Community Support

Sharing the Love: ₱1.2M Donated to PGH Medical Foundation as Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil Extends Community Support

Inspired by the compassion of loyal Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil consumers, the ‘Share-the-Love with Heart Mate’ campaign went beyond a simple commitment and transformed into an extraordinary act of bayanihan — surpassing the initial ₱1 million pledge and raising ₱1,227,450 for the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation, Inc. (PGHMFI). The official turnover took place on November 27, 2025, at Robinsons Supermarket Ermita, in partnership with Robinsons Supermarket, marking a significant milestone for the brand, reinforcing its commitment to community wellness and compassionate advocacy.

Share the Love Campaign Donation Turnover

The donation is the culmination of the “Share-the-Love with Heart Mate” campaign, which ran from July 15 to October 15, 2025. For every Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil product purchased at Robinsons Supermarket during this period, ₱5 was donated to PGHMFI. This simple act allowed Filipino households to transform everyday cooking moments into meaningful contributions that help strengthen PGH’s medical programs and services.

Recognized as the leading canola oil brand in the Philippines, Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil is beloved and trusted for its superior heart-healthy benefits. It contains zero cholesterol, is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and has the lowest saturated fat versus dietary fats which can lower the risk of heart disease and stroke with every delicious dish cooked at home. Ideal for daily cooking, Jolly Heart Mate remains a trusted staple in Filipino kitchens.

“We want to dedicate and honor the loyal consumers of Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil today. They have not only shown love, health, and wellness for their families, but have also extended their generosity to their fellow Filipinos,” said Fly Ace Corporation Vice President for Marketing Abigail Ng-Reyes. “This year marks the 25th anniversary of Jolly Heart Mate — 25 years of advocating heart health for every Filipino family. We are very humbled as a company that throughout these 25 years, our consumers have given their trust, love, and support to Heart Mate, allowing us to become the number one canola oil brand in the market today.”

The donation is already making an impact, with funds directly supporting essential medical programs and services for PGH patients, especially those navigating the most challenging moments of their lives.

Chairman President PGHMFI Dr. Telesforo E. Gana Jr

“Maraming, maraming, maraming salamat po for the donation,”  said PGHMFI Chairman and President Dr. Telesforo E. Gana Jr. . “We help indigent patients directly through medical assistance — assisting them with laboratory tests that need to be done outside — and by providing equipment and supplies that are beyond our budget. All of these donations go to the different aspects of our work, whether it’s direct patient assistance or supplying the instruments and equipment that may be needed.”

    PGH Director Dr. Gap Legaspi

Echoing this sentiment, Philippine General Hospital Director Dr. Gap Legaspi expressed his appreciation: “Thank you very much for this. I think this will be a big help in bridging that [critical] period when patients urgently need access to goods or medicines.”

Through this collaboration, Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil and Robinsons Supermarket demonstrated  how purpose-driven partnerships can uplift communities and bring hope to those in need. The turnover ceremony marked the culmination of a campaign that turned cooking into an act of love — nurturing the health of families at home while improving the lives of others across the country.

Affirming this shared vision, Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. President and CEO Stanley Co shared: “We are honored to stand by Fly Ace, our true ‘Heart Mate.’ This shared mission of bringing goodness home and bringing good food home is all about turning everyday shopping into an opportunity to uplift communities. When we unite for a greater cause, we show that a supermarket can be more than a place to shop — it can be a place where hearts come together.”

Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil remains committed to championing wellness, compassion, and community empowerment, helping Filipinos make a difference both in their kitchens and beyond.

  • “Extraordinarily Intense”: Danny Boyle Praises Nia DaCosta’s Dark Vision in ’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ New Featurette

“Extraordinarily Intense”: Danny Boyle Praises Nia DaCosta’s Dark Vision in ’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ New Featurette

The infected world is back—and this time, it’s even more unforgiving. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple pushes the legendary franchise into chilling new territory, reminding audiences that in a broken world, survival doesn’t always mean salvation. With Danny Boyle and Alex Garland returning as creative forces and Nia DaCosta taking the director’s chair, the film promises a bold, unsettling continuation of a story that defined modern horror.

A newly released featurette offers a rare look behind the scenes, featuring candid insights from Boyle, DaCosta, and Ralph Fiennes. Their shared message is clear: this chapter is fearless, emotionally charged, and, in Boyle’s words, “just so extraordinarily intense.”

    Watch the Featurette Here:

When the Infected Aren’t the Only Danger

Set after the events of the previous film, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple explores a grim truth—humanity itself may be the most dangerous force left standing. In the heart of infected territory, survivors are driven by fear, belief, and desperation, often blurring the line between protector and predator.

Ralph Fiennes stars as Dr. Kelson, a man who discovers an unexpected connection amid the chaos. At the same time, young survivor Spike (Alfie Williams) encounters the unsettling Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell), a bizarre ringleader whose influence sets off a deeply sinister chain of events. As alliances shift and moral boundaries crumble, the film paints a haunting portrait of what people become when the world no longer makes sense.

Danny Boyle on Trusting a New Vision

Passing the torch to a new director could have been risky—but for Danny Boyle, Nia DaCosta was the obvious choice.

Nia was the perfect choice to direct The Bone Temple.  Alex Garland and I had long been fans of her reimagining of Candyman and recognized that Nia has serious horror chops – and a genuine love for the original 28 Days Later. She honors what fans love about the franchise while making the new film her own, taking the series into even darker, more intense areas.

Rather than replicate Boyle’s signature style, DaCosta was encouraged to carve her own path—an approach that ultimately strengthens the film’s identity.

    28YrsTBT Ralph2

A Different Style, A Stronger Impact

Screenwriter Alex Garland, who also penned the script, believes DaCosta’s confidence behind the camera elevates the entire experience.

From the start, Nia told Danny and me that the camera would not move in the way Danny moves the camera, and it would not be edited in the way Danny cuts,” Garland confirms. “That was very impressive to Danny because most people’s instinct would have been to duplicate his style, and Nia didn’t do that. That was impressive and smart. Her film is quite different, and that’s a good thing.

That creative shift allows The Bone Temple to feel both familiar and disturbingly fresh, expanding the franchise without losing its emotional core.

Letting the Film Become Her Own

For DaCosta, directing 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was a rare opportunity to honor a beloved story while embracing her own artistic instincts.

What connects the two films is that they’re both bonkers, idiosyncratic, and artistically personal works,” DaCosta notes. “When I initially discussed the new film with Danny and Alex, I told them, ‘I’m going to make it my own. I’m not going to try to make ‘a Danny Boyle movie.’ Because that’s impossible to make. Alex’s script was very different from 28 Years Later, so it lends itself to a different approach. I could really put my imprint on it – to let my freak flag fly – and be visually adventurous and matching that with more classical filmmaking.

Her approach brings a striking balance of raw energy and controlled tension, creating a film that feels intensely personal yet unmistakably part of the 28 universe.

    28YrsTBT JackOConnell

    A Sinister Chapter Awaits

With its haunting themes, powerful performances, and bold creative direction, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple reshapes the future of the franchise. It’s a story about fear, faith, and fractured humanity—where survival comes at a terrifying price.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple opens in Philippine cinemas on January 14 and locally distributed by Columbia Pictures. Brace yourself. Something sinister is coming.

  • MMFF 2025 Review: I’mPerfect

    MMFF 2025 Review: I’mPerfect

After watching I’mPerfect, I realised I knew very little about people with Down syndrome. Over the course of the film’s 131-minute running time, I was thrust into a world that really made me face my ignorance and broadened my understanding of their condition. At first, my biggest worry was whether the film would exploit their disability for drama, but I’m happy to have seen these characters portrayed not only with agency, but also shown in the most human way possible. The film explores their wants and needs and presents them as equal as those who do not share the same condition.

The story follows two people living with Down Syndrome, Jessica (Krystel Go) and Jiro (Earl Amaba). The two meet at school and fall in love almost instantly. Jessica lives with her single mother, Norma (Sylvia Sanchez) and her absentee father (Joey Marquez) suddenly return to their lives, regretting his decision to leave them when Jessica was born.

    I'mperfect

Jiro comes from an affluent family of doctors. His mother, Lizel (Lorna Tolentino), is overprotective and clings to him tightly, while his father (Tonton Gutierrez) is way more lax. Jiro is also close to his younger brother, Ryan (Zaijan Jaranilla). When both mothers dismiss the relationship blossoming between their children, Jessica and Jiro decide to elope and run away to the province to prove that they are adults (which they are) and capable of being independent.

    I'mperfect

I’mPerfect, directed and written by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, takes care to really show Jessica, Jiro, and all their friends as lively and vibrant people. They go through the familiar narrative beats of any romantic comedy, only punctuated by their particular speech patterns and movements.

    I'mperfect

At first, it feels almost comical until you realise that what’s filtering it is our own blind spots. We are so used to abled-bodied people in this genre that seeing others go through the exact same things we do can feel alien and strange.

    I'mperfect

By the time Jessica and Jiro make it to their school dance, and Bernardo gives them a lovely sequence where everyone is dancing, happy and free, do we start to realise our own biases.

    I'mperfect

Bernardo also takes special care to really emphasize the dynamics of each relationship – Jiro with his family and Jessica with hers – and we really see that despite their disability, they are grown adults (Jessica is 28 and Jiro is turning 30) and they stand firm in the decisions they are making about their lives.

    I'mperfect

In some ways, the way Jessica and Jiro stand up to their parents becomes symbolic of how people with Down syndrome are asking from us to treat them the way they want to be treated. The film manages to make us face our own misconceptions about people with this condition and see them for who they truly are.

    I'mperfect

I can say this safely because these are the feelings that hit me as I was watching the film, and it was the same things the people in the row behind me, who could not help themselves but speak out loud about their own realisations. By the end of the movie, we were all rooting for Jessica and Jiro’s independence.

    I'mperfect

This film is revelatory in that way, using the genre to fully maximize film’s ability to broaden the audience’s world and to represent a sector of society that is voiceless in our society and culture. It made us laugh and cry, and, more importantly, it allowed us to see without the filter of our preconceived notions. In that sense, the film is truly successful.

    I'mperfect

There are times when the film slips to scenes that feel pedagogical, with the able-bodied characters talking about their feelings in a very literal manner. It’s inelegant and a bit inorganic in the way it was written but I understand the need for it. But it is in these moments that the film works its transformational magic on the audience. While it is not as cinematic as I might hope, but it does what it sets out to do.

    I'mperfect

The performances here are very strong. Sylvia Sanchez and Janice De Belen, who plays Jiro’s former nanny, are so in the pocket with the film’s world that their portrayals allow Go and Amaba to truly shine, and playing off the more experienced actors. The scenes between Ryan and Jiro are also particularly strong, showcasing the wonderful chemistry between Amaba and Jaranilla.

I’mPerfect can get pedantic at some points, but the power of film lies in how it amplifies the voices of people who are never really properly represented in film or in society. It does a powerful job of showing their humanity in the most familiar ways.
