  • Aqua SmartGuard: World’s first COVID-19-safe water purifier arrives in PH

    Aqua SmartGuard UNIT plus FIREWALL
Aqua SmartGuard’s “cube” purify water via its patented FirewallTM UVC system, the most advanced, widely certified water purification technology in the world

Global leader in home and workplace hydration solutions Waterlogic is looking to transform drinking water in the Philippines with the world’s very first COVID-19-safe water purifier, the Aqua SmartGuard.

Waterlogic recently launched its new and exclusive line of Aqua SmartGuard water purifiers in the country to offer Filipino families a healthier and safer way to get their drinking water. “Every day we find new and better ways to protect ourselves and our families from the COVID-19 virus. Bringing Aqua SmartGuard purifiers to the Philippines is our way of encouraging Filipinos to leave no stone unturned when it comes to their families’ health and safety,” said Windy Goffe-Gomez, Aqua SmartGuard Philippines chief operating officer.

Windy Goffe Gomez Aqua SmartGuardPH Country Manager
Aqua SmartGuard COO Windy Gomez during the company’s corporate launch last November 2021.

Waterlogic provides trusted and reliable water service to over 50 million households and offices in more than 70 countries to date. Its latest innovation, Aqua SmartGuard, uses smart technology to ensure cleaner and safer drinking water compared to traditional water coolers. This innovative range of “cube” purification units features Firewall UVC Technology and BioCote Antimicrobial Surface Protection to keep the water from having bacteria and viruses, contaminants, and unpleasant tastes and odors. More importantly, these state-of-the-art technologies work together to prevent the COVID-19 virus from contaminating the water.

    Patented purification technology

The Aqua SmartGuard water purifiers adopt a patented and most-advanced Firewall UVC technology to guarantee up to 99.99 percent protection against bacteria, viruses and cysts such as salmonella, E.coli and the COVID-19 virus. The water purifier features a unique quartz double helix that ensures targeted light waves reach each drop of water at the point of dispense for utmost purification.

The patented UVC Firewall acts as a barrier to prevent pathogens from infecting the water. Water flows up and down through the Firewall, exposing it to the UVC light and freeing it from harmful bacteria as soon as it leaves the nozzle.

Besides alcohol and disinfectants, more Filipinos have turned to ultraviolet (UV) solutions to make sure their homes and things they use are safe from COVID-19. Studies have shown that UV light, specifically UVC or the third type of UV ray in the ultraviolet spectrum, effectively reduces pathogenic and nonpathogenic organisms such as bacteria and viruses, including the virus that causes COVID-19. UVC works by altering the structure and molecular bonds of microbes’ DNA, preventing them from moving or multiplying. Among the three types of UV rays, UVC radiation requires the shortest amount of time — only a few seconds — to kill bacteria and viruses.

When it comes to purifying water, UVC works best with mechanical filtration systems to make sure that the purification process will yield safe and healthy drinking water. This is where the Firewall systems come in.

A team of microbiologists from the University of Arizona led by Dr. Charles P Gerba recently put the Firewall to the test against COVID-19. Results of the rigorous tests reveal the Firewall inactivates the COVID-19 virus by 99.9999 percent.

BioCote: Additional protection from the outside

In homes and offices, utilizing traditional dispensers is a point transfer for viruses and bacteria by mere touch of the machine’s body and buttons. For further protection, Aqua SmartGuard features an antimicrobial defense, the BioCote, on its surfaces, including the purification unit’s outer shell, dispensing buttons, nozzles and tray.

Exclusive to Aqua SmartGuard units, BioCote uses silver ion technology that keeps microbial cells from growing on the cube’s external surfaces. It significantly decreases the presence of microbes on the machine in just 15 minutes and reduces up to 99.5 percent of bacteria within just 2 hours.

Unlike other antimicrobial additives, the active agent in BioCote cannot be washed or rubbed off as it is infused during the manufacturing process and is therefore chemically bonded to the material. BioCote is able to provide continuous and long-lasting protection throughout the product’s life span.

    Aqua SmartGurad Countertop Cube Model
Aqua SmartGuard provides you and your loved ones with exceptionally safe, hassle-free and great-tasting drinking water

    Unrivaled water purity and security

In addition to its Firewall UVC and BioCote technologies, the Aqua SmartGuard purification unit feature a carbon filter that removes particles that give the water a bad taste and odor while leaving the necessary and healthy minerals. It can capture particles 1 micron in size and can substantially reduce chlorine and other contaminants in the water.

This high-performance carbon filter is made from sustainably sourced coconut shell, making the product eco-friendly.

Besides its innovative technologies and features, the Aqua SmartGuard by Waterlogic has been recognized and certified by international health organizations such as the Water Quality Association (WQA) and the and the Water Regulatory Advisory Scheme (WRAS). It also meets ISO 9001 and Energy Star standards.

“First in the Philippines and in Asia, Aqua SmartGuard’s COVID-19-safe water purification units make a good addition to the Filipino household or even the workplace, protecting families and employees and championing health and hygiene at home or at work,” said Goffe-Gomez.

Aqua SmartGuard by Waterlogic opened its first stores at Trinoma, Greenbelt 1 and SM Megamall last December 2021. Aqua SmartGuard’s countertop unit is now available in metallic silver, and its freestanding version will also launch this year.

  • Lady Gaga’s Award-Winning Portrayal of Italy’s Black Widow in ‘House of Gucci’ is Worth Seeing in Cinemas

Lady Gaga’s latest work in House of Gucci earned her the Best Actress Award in the latest New York Film Critics Circle ceremony as Patrizia Reggiani, also known to Italian press as the Black Widow who plotted the murder of her husband Mauricio Gucci (played by Adam Driver).

Lady Gaga and the film are also currently nominated for various major categories in this year’s Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Awards, Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and Satellite Awards.  With the buzz on Lady Gaga’s transformation as one of the major highlights of the movie utilizing hair, make-up and fashion, Vietnamese-Filipino Frederic Aspiras (who’s been Lady Gaga’s personal hairstylist for more than 13 years), according to an article from Variety, could make Oscar history since he would be the second Asian American to be nominated in the category, should the film finally land a nomination in makeup and hairstyle awards category.

    Lady Gaga HOUSE OF GUCCI

House of Gucci is from visionary director/producer Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, The Martian), a true-life dynastic saga and a riveting tale of ambition, greed, betrayal and murder set against the glamorous backdrop of high fashion and high finance.

The visually stylish film, which spans three turbulent decades in the Gucci family empire boasts a star-studded ensemble cast headed by Oscar® nominees Lady Gaga (A Star is Born) and Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Oscar® winners Al Pacino (The Godfather, Scent of a Woman), Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) and Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune). Oscar® nominee Salma Hayek (Frida) and Jack Huston (American Hustle) round out the powerhouse cast.

Lady Gaga and Vincent Riotta HOUSE OF GUCCI

Among the elements that attracted Lady Gaga to the project was the complexity of Patrizia Reggiani, a fallible and, at times, morally compromised woman who is, at the same time, sincerely in love with Maurizio Gucci and eager to help him forge his way ahead in the family’s fashion business. “Before they see the film, some people might think Patrizia is a gold digger,” says Lady Gaga. “But when they got married, his family had turned their back on him. So, she didn’t marry for money, she married for love.”

And while Patrizia’s retaliation proved to be tragic, the actress found a way to love the character for all her imperfections.  “I believe that trying to better her situation in life came from an innocent place, not a guilty place. Tragically, by the end, not only did she not achieve her goal, she wound up way below where she was when she started.”

Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani in HOUSE OF GUCCI

She has nothing but praise for the director with whom she embarked on this journey. She describes Scott as an “architectural visionary. He’s painterly in the way that he approaches his films. He also understands the emotional quotient of a script and how to work with the actors and navigate what they’re trying to say.”

Lady Gaga’s grasp of the role and level of commitment were evident to everyone on the production. Co-star Jared Leto remarks that Lady Gaga brought a certain bravery and dedication to playing Patrizia.   “She owned that character,” adds co-star Al Pacino. “It’s so different from what she did in ‘A Star is Born.’ It’s a total revelation.”

Lady Gaga in HOUSE OF GUCCI

“Part of the secret of her talent is that she is special in everything she does,” says co-star Salma Hayek. “It’s what makes her a true artist. She goes beyond just being a singer, or just being an actor. There’s a level of commitment and passion and strength. She throws herself completely into everything she does.”

House of Gucci opens January 19 in Philippine theaters from Universal Pictures International.

  • Reach Your Savings Goal This Year with Komo’s Digital Banking Analytics Tool

The pandemic has drastically changed the way of life for most people all over the world. In the Philippines, the steady increase in safety and health measures resulted in a radical adoption of e-commerce, and subsequently, online and digital banking.

In many ways, the Filipino community is largely conservative, doubting how new technology can actually make daily life more practical, more efficient, and, of course, more economical down the line.

The answer to this? Komo, EastWest Bank’s digital banking service. Launched in August 2020, Komo stands for “Kontrol Mo Ang Pera Mo,” and is the first digital banking service that is proudly established by a local bank.

    Set Savings Goal Steps 1

The beauty of it is that it is an exclusively digital banking experience using a dedicated smartphone app. Users can enjoy services, such as securely opening a savings account, transferring funds, settling bills, requesting for on-demand bank documents, and even availing of a customizable insurance plan with Troo Flex — all done from the safety of your home and never having to visit a physical branch.

While one of the main reasons for opening a digital account is the convenience of never having to venture out and still enjoy the perks of retail therapy, Komo takes it a step further to help you keep your finances in check. This year, Komo is proud to introduce the app’s newest feature: Analytics, the country’s first Analytics tool in a digital banking service.

This feature is designed to make budget management simple, letting you take control of your spending instead of the other way around. It’s here to help you gain a better idea of your financial habits, in order to manage your money more efficiently.

The Komo Analytics tool comes with an easy-to-navigate tracker that shows the movement of your transactions in real time and allows you to set and reach your savings goal. Here are some ways on how it can help you make better personal financial decisions.

    Set Your (Savings) Target

The Analytics tool is integrated with a Savings Calculator that allows you to set your targeted savings goal. Based on the budget that you can set aside, it can calculate and provide you with a workable timeline on when you can meet it. It not only monitors your savings, but also helps to determine how much more you need to save to meet your goal and deadline.

    Track Your Expenses

Tracking your spending in your head is not the same as listing it down and seeing it in a full picture. With Komo’s Analytics, you will be able to see how your expenses fare against your actual savings, showing you a breakdown of your expenses for a more accurate view of where your money is going. With this, you can recalibrate your spending habits and move forward to making better financial decisions.

    Set Your (Realistic) Budget

Oftentimes, the reason that people fall short of keeping to their budget goals is because the set target may simply not be realistic. Because the Komo Analytics tool is built for monitoring the movement of your finances, the dashboard shows insights and trends. This will help you set a more realistic budget that you can work with in making smarter decisions when it comes to that extra splurge.

    Komos Analytics Tool 1 1

The Komo app is available for download on the Apple iOS AppStore, Android PlayStore, and the Huawei AppGallery. All it takes is the advantage of technology and a little discipline. Learn more about Komo, the Analytics tool, and other services at https://www.komo.ph/.
