  • You Can Now Join Virtual Guided Tours at the CCP CCP

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic limited the movement of people, the Cultural Center of the Philippines has begun developing some of its programs and projects in digital format for various virtual platforms.  Thus, when the pandemic hit, streaming content online took a natural course.

CCP Little Theater Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino

Moving forward, a virtual building and theater tour package was developed to provide online art education and cultural content for everyone; especially, for those who cannot come over physically to the CCP by virtue of current quarantine protocols or geographic and logistical limitations.

Launched last February during the Pasinaya 2022, the CCP virtual tours also address the changes on how people consume arts in the new normal; and, usher in a new way to bring visitors back to the Center.

A project of the CCP Venue Operations Division (Production and Exhibition Department), the interactive 360 and/or 180-degree guided virtual tour takes visitors inside the CCP theaters, spaces, and other facilities, including the newly-built Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez (CCP Black Box Theater).

    CCP Silangan Hall

Facilitated via Zoom, visitors can see the interiors of the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater), with its famous stage tapestry “Genesis” based on an artwork of National Artist H.R. Ocampo. You can also head to the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater) and the Tanghalang Huseng Batute (CCP Studio Theater). Virtual visitors can also take a glimpse behind the stage.

CCP Main Theater Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo

The 30-to-45-minute tour utilized high-resolution photography, allowing a real on-site experience as if the visitors are walking through every corner of the artistic spaces with us.

Over 2916 photos, with 489 panoramas and 8 aerial shots were used to build a digital simulation of the actual physical spaces; creating an immersive virtual environment.

The guided tour is interactive allowing tour guests to ask questions and further explore the featured spaces through the assigned tour guide. It has embedded videos of the Visual Arts & Museum Division’s CCP Cultural Cache Online episodes and audio descriptions of the CCP visual arts collection displayed across various areas of the building.

Want to know more about the building’s history, its hallowed halls, and other trivia? There are Q & A sessions after every tour.

  • Film Facts: 5 Things to Know About ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Tom Cruise returns to one of his earliest Hollywood roles in the long-awaited sequel film, Top Gun: Maverick. As Navy aviator Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, Cruise is back to cruising the skies, but this time he also has to train a new generation of aviators while facing the uncertain future and a piece of the past that haunts him to this day.

Before you see the epic sequel to Top Gun this May 25, here are some facts about the film that you might find interesting.

    1. It’s been 36 years since the first film premiered.

Top Gun first hit theaters in 1986 and Tom Cruise was in his early 20s when he first played the role of Maverick. Today, the actor is 59 years old, and his role as a respected aviator turned mentor to the rookies is really fitting given the huge gap between the first film and the sequel. Top Gun is also one of the franchises with the longest gaps between its films, running second to Bambi which took 64 years to have a sequel.

    2. Maverick meets the son of his late friend Goose.

Goose is such an important character in the first film, and his impact remains in this sequel. In fact, his son Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw becomes one of Maverick’s mentees, but the past will raise conflict upon their encounter. Rooster is played by Miles Teller, who has appeared in the 2015 Fantastic Four remake and War Dogs.

    3. The Iceman is back.

Val Kilmer also returns in the sequel as Maverick’s rival-turned-ally, Lt. Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. As the trailer reveals, it was actually Iceman who requested for Maverick to lead the Navy’s new roster of promising aviators. In an interview with People, Top Gun producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that Cruise really wanted to have Kilmer back for the sequel. Top Gun: Maverick was filmed after Kilmer recovered from throat cancer.

    4. Tom Cruise & the cast were really filmed from inside the cockpit.

In the original movie, the cast members were filmed in the cockpit of an F-14 Tomcat, but only Tom Cruise had usable footage because the other actors struggled with that setup. But this time, the actors are now able to film in the cockpits of the F/A-18s in flight, acting and speaking their lines of dialogue, thanks to months of training.

    5. Convincing Tom Cruise to star in Top Gun wasn’t easy.

In an interview with Variety, Bruckheimer said that Tom Cruise was always their choice to play Maverick, but convincing him to star in the film wasn’t easy. But when the Blue Angels at a Naval Air Facility in California took him for a ride, doing all kinds of stunts in an F-14, Cruise was convinced that he had to be in the movie.

  • WATCH: ‘Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area’ Unveils Teaser Trailer

Netflix has revealed the official teaser trailer for Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area!

Korea is on the brink of unification, and North and South Korea establish the Unified Korea Mint and are printing one common currency as the groundwork to build a stable joint economy. Despite people’s expectations, “only the rich got richer,” leading to severe inequality. Against this unfair world, a crew of thieves, including Tokyo, an ex-soldier from the North, unite under the leadership of a mastermind known as the Professor to plan an unprecedented heist – stealing money yet to exist! The only things standing between them are a joint task force led by South Korean Negotiation specialist, Seon Woojin,  and a North Korean agent, Cha Moohyu, epic mind games, and time.

“The themes of a common currency and a mint built in the Joint Security Area (which divides North and South Korea today) are the premise of the series, which adds the Korean flavor and excitement to the original story,” said the writer Ryu Yong-jae.

The teaser also highlights the characters – Professor performed by Yoo ji-tae, Tokyo performed by Jung Jong-seo, and Berlin performed by Park Hae-soo of Squid Game – for the first time in action, all in iconic red jumpsuits with traditional Hahoe masks, stirring up further excitement.

<Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area> Part 1 will premiere worldwide on June 24, only on Netflix.

  • Mountain Dew is Here to Fuel Your Latest Adventures

If this summer season is any indication, it seems more Filipinos are starting to regain their lives returning to their pre-pandemic routine. Many are exploring more places, as if on a “revenge travel” mode.

A forecast from the Department of Tourism (DOT) noted that domestic trips may reach 84.8 million in 2022. This is 90 percent of the total number of domestic trips in 2019.

Market intelligence firm, Colliers Philippines, also believes that domestic tourists will boost the tourism sector once again. This is due to eased travel restrictions both here and abroad. The Holy Week 2022 served as a proof point.

From Baguio to Boracay, we’ve seen hordes of Filipino tourists visiting for their “much-needed break”. The City Tourism Office of Baguio showed that the city has more than 80,000 approved travel registrations arriving from April 8 to 17. As for Boracay, news report mentioned that more than 21,000 tourists arrived in the province.

True to its slogan, “Fuel for Adventure”, Mountain Dew is joining Filipinos across the world in discovering more about life beyond the pandemic. Together, seeking thrills and restarting the fun as we move forward to living in a post-pandemic future.

“We are thrilled to see more people taking in new adventures this summer. It is a stark contrast to how we were living our lives during the same period last year. These days, we are almost resuming where we left off—slowly but surely and safely. A bottle of Mountain Dew could be a good pair in fueling our days ahead,” said Frederick D. Ong, president and chief executive officer of Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc. (PCPPI)—the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country.

Mountain Dew is available in 8 oz to 1L glass bottles, 250 ml to 330 ml cans, and 300 ml to 2.25L PET bottles. It also recently launched its new 850ml PET bottle serving in Luzon and 1L bottle serving in Visayas and Mindanao. Get all these in supermarkets, groceries, convenience stores, and sari-sari stores nationwide.
