Beast Director Baltasar Kormakur
Immersing the audience in the experience of the film, director Kormákur extends the film’s terrifying experiences of the characters to the audience. “The lion is always seen from the perspective of the characters,” Kormákur says. “You always feel it coming to them. You can’t cut away. You are stuck in the shot. I knew that I wanted all the big action scenes to be done like that. That increases the suspense and the excitement of being trapped in this situation.”
All involved in the production spent a great deal of time paying attention to the dynamics of what lion would actually feel like—especially as it attacked. “Baltasar and I talked about the massive Barbary lion, which is almost extinct, as a reference,” Idris Elba says. “When this thing hits the car, you feel the car move. This is not your average lion; this lion is huge. We spend a lot of time giving the audience a sense of this lion’s scale and its power. As well, it’s an incredibly smart and calculating predator.”

It was also critical to director Kormákur to bring the realistic version of South Africa such that the it was number one on the list for filming locations. “Touching ground here and scouting in the region and seeing what South Africa’s film community could offer, we knew we made the right decision,” producer James Lopez says.

The team protected the natural environments in which they were filming. For one scene where Idris is in a watering hole, the production built an actual watering hole, so as not to disturb an existing one used by animals. The team also used actual town names and included South African cast, used dialects and filmed architecture of the villages to stay true to the story.

When the artist group Pilipinta came to be, it was started by independent artist Richelle Rivera. An entrepreneur who does impressionist and realist works, she created the group to help fellow artists to have a better platform to showcase their creativity.
With 10 members currently, the group is slowly making a name for itself with the artists participating in online and physical exhibits as well as competitions.
Pilipinta artists pride themselves in creating impactful pieces that they hope will ignite the same fire in each person that sees them so that the passion to keep art alive continues.
Thus, ARTablado’s ongoing show “Siklab” at Robinsons Galleria is exactly that, where the Pilipinta artists’ recent works are currently on exhibit.
Rivera’s common subjects are landscapes, seascapes, architectural, florals, portraits and still life. She believes that engaging in the arts can help boost self-confidence, heal the soul, and give positivity and resilience.

Kring Dumalag is a contemporary artist from Quezon City who is fascinated by the beauty of nature and the uniqueness of an object. Her subjects are usually about women empowerment, landscape, found objects, flowers, and abstract.
Denzel San Jose likes to express his thoughts about anything that inspires him such as social perceptions, misconceptions, LGBT, with his works mainly featuring sharp contours on the face of his subjects.

Robinsons Land’s ARTablado continues to support Filipino art by providing a second home for artists where they can showcase their creativity and artistic genius.
There is truly no limit to what a woman can do. Artist Mylene Quito proves this with her second solo exhibit this coming October 2022 at Ayala Malls Manila Bay featuring her “Belle Fleur” series calling for women empowerment. She hopes to inspire women to follow their passion, continue to reinvent themselves, and bloom.
The black backdrop in the Belle Fleur collection symbolizes all the dark times and failures she experienced throughout her art journey. Quito recalls all the painful storms she went through and reminisces an episode where a critic said she will not make it. Claiming she wasn’t talented enough, and would never succeed without their help . . . all of which she now feels thankful for as she realized it only made her stronger.
Every painting in the collection are flowers that symbolize the diversity of women – soft, sweet, powerful; all silhouetted with golden linings – symbolic of rebirth and indestructibility. “No matter what a woman’s flaws and imperfections are, we are uniquely beautiful,” Quito shares.
The Lotus is one of her favorite pieces, a testimony of human resilience and unwavering spirit; also a flower often associated with rebirth and enlightenment. Latched in mud, it submerges in the river and blooms sparkling clean in the morning. Similar to life, we are filled with different problems and anxieties but we will always find a way to rise.
From her La Familia exhibit inspired from her childhood roots, Quito pushes for more greatness beyond as she conquers the Philippine art industry.
From one woman in bloom to another, she says, “Once you become a successful woman, remember to raise others. Start a domino [effect] through your kindness and always remember to stay grounded.”
GMA Drama has recently unveiled the teaser for the upcoming Filipino remake of the K-drama Start-Up, starring Bea Alonzo and Alden Richards as the Filipino counterparts of Seo Dal-mi and Han Ji-pyeong.

Released in 2020, the Korean series starred Bae Suzy as Seo Dal-mi and Kim Seon-ho as Han Ji-pyeong. Also starring alongside them are Nam Joo-hyuk and Kang Han-na. It follows Dal-mi who aims to be Korea’s equivalent of Steve Jobs. Dal-mi teams up with other young entrepreneurs as she enters the world of start-up companies, but she soon finds herself in a complicated love triangle.
The Filipino remake renames the characters of Dal-mi and Ji-pyeong to Dani and Tristan respectively. Start-Up is Bea Alonzo’s first project as a GMA artist and her first project with Alden Richards. The series also stars Yasmien Kurdi, Jeric Gonzales, Gina Alajar, Kim Domingo, Royce Cabrera, and Boy 2 Quizon.
