“Linlang,” which drops new episodes every Thursday, is streaming in over 240 countries and territories and is the second series of Kim Chiu on Prime Video after the success of “Fit Check: Confessions of an Ukay Queen.”
The series revolves around boxer-turned-seaman Victor “Bangis” Lualhati (Paulo Avelino) in his quest of uncovering the truth behind his wife Juliana’s (Kim Chiu) infidelity. As Victor digs deeper, he discovers that there is more at play than just a cheating spouse and realizes that the woman he loved and married is not who she seems.

To celebrate the film’s premiere in the Philippines, a special screening event was held at SM Megamall last September 30. Avid moviegoers and sci-fi fans were greeted with an immersive themed set-up that took them straight to the distant AI-led future of “The Creator.”

The crazy and quirky ‘Cobweb’ is a movie within a movie, a period black comedy about the movie of the same title as it is being reshot by its director Kim Yeol (played by Song Kang-ho of ‘Parasite’ and ‘Snowpiercer’ fame). Kim Yeol is a director known for his “trashy dramas” and who is driven to redo the ending of his film to turn it into a masterpiece. Known as an apprentice to great filmmaker, Director Shin, critics and other industry insiders feel that Director Shin wrote the screenplay of Kim Yeol’s debut feature, which is why it is so good, and this has plagued Kim Yeol’s career ever since. Even on his continued insistence that his debut film was written by him, his works after his debut has been less than stellar. Plagued by dreams, he has returned to the studio and called back his cast and crew to re-shoot a few scenes.
Except Kim Yeol’s producer doesn’t want him to reshoot the film. Set in South Korea in the 70s, they would need to submit the script to the censorship board for approval (to ensure there wasn’t any anti-government rhetoric in the story) while many of his actors are also busy with other projects, most notably the starlet Han Yu-rim (played with delicious fervor by Krystal Jung). But after the niece of the producer, Shin Mi-do (played by a surprisingly plucky Jeon Yeo-been of ‘Vincenzo’) reads the new script and takes it upon herself to push through with the reshoots, ‘Cobweb’ then takes a turn to the crazy world of filmmaking.
Alternating between the movie that is being shot – the multi-genre and almost campy black and white suspense drama ‘Cobweb’ – and the making of that movie, the film becomes a hilarious presentation of the crazy world of filmmaking. It’s a satire about the industry poking fun at the crazy antics on the set that includes everything from the intrigue between actors, the means of playing circles around the censors, the battle between producers and actors and producers and directors, and everything that Mi-do and Yeol must do to keep the cameras rolling. Everything including locking everyone in the studio.
While the movie being shot is very old school in tone and feel. It plays out like a campy old movie with exaggerated acting and overly dramatic music and set ups, it becomes an interesting counterpoint to the lives of the people within the studios and it becomes a showcase of the intricate web of personalities that intersect in the making of a movie.
The literal spider and cobwebs in the film come in much later in the movie and in the most unconventional and hilarious way. It comes completely left and center and becomes the final punchline to a very long and crazy joke about the world of making movies. What does come out is that no matter how crazy the world of it gets, the movie keeps going, they never stop. The passion of making movies, of making a name for yourself, of putting out a work is really highlighted in this film. It’s as if Kim Yeol is the spider making a cobweb and everybody else is just trapped in the weave, unable to get out.
Or maybe the spider is moviemaking and even Kim Yeol is stuck in the spider’s web as more truths about his past and his relationship with Director Shin is revealed in a fiery moment that is absolutely awe-inspiring (it shows off an incredible one-shot take involving fire). Director Kim Jae-woon first shows us how the scene is done and then shows us the finished shot within the film itself and ‘Cobwebs’ just lays out this incredible movie-making moment for us to marvel at.
With great performances across the board, most especially from Krystal Jung and Jeon Yeo-been, ‘Cobweb’ is a madcap comedy about the joys and craziness that it takes to making movies. It is definitely a love letter to the medium but also an exploration and rumination of what an artist fears the most – grappling with the ideas of their own capacities and talents. ‘Cobweb’ isn’t particularly deep or profound on the onset, but it is very, very enjoyable.

Chef Burzio’s culinary journey is a captivating narrative. It begins with his role as the Executive Sous Chef at Sandy Lane Barbados, an iconic luxury resort in the Caribbean. Here, he not only oversaw the Fine Dining Restaurant Acajou but elevated it to receive a prestigious 5-Star Forbes inspection rating, making it the best fine dining restaurant in Barbados. His dedication and leadership played a pivotal role in earning Angelini a place among the Top 100 city restaurants in Hong Kong for two consecutive years. Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, Chef Burzio orchestrated remarkable results, increasing profitability, revenue, and covers by an impressive 35%.
Chef Burzio’s voyage continued at Acqua, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Mactan, where he managed Acqua Restaurant and the VIP Ocean Club Lounge. Here, he orchestrated breakfast, lunch, dinner, poolside service, and cocktail hours, serving between 300 to 500 meals daily. His adept management of a team of over 25 chefs, menu engineering, and food cost control, guest relations, and PR and media interactions established him as a true culinary luminary.
The allure of French cuisine beckoned, and Chef Burzio answered the call. In Aix En Provence, France, he took charge of a 45-seat demigastro restaurant and worked as an executive consultant for a new tapas bistro project. His role extended beyond the culinary realm, as he provided culinary vision, managed back-of-the-house operations, selected menu items, recruited and trained a high-caliber team, and handled purchasing, inventory control, and menu research and development. His influence even extended to kitchen hardware layout and planning for the new outlet.
Chef Burzio’s journey also led him to Thailand and Myanmar, where he served as the Head Chef for Zanotti Group. In this role, he managed Seasonal Restaurant in Khao Yai National Park, Thailand, a fine dining Italian sanctuary. His responsibilities then extended to oversee the opening of another fine dining Italian restaurant in Yangon, Myanmar, where he supervised and trained a team of young chefs, ensuring quality control and adherence to executive chef standards.
The culinary odyssey didn’t stop there. Chef Burzio explored a unique avenue as the Senior Sous Chef at Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection. Onboard one of the three ships, he oversaw breakfast, brunches, all-day dining, bar and lounge service, managing a small team under executive supervision. His poise and performance in the high-pressure cruise ship environment were truly commendable.
Finally, Chef Burzio’s journey led him to the prestigious Michelin-starred La Barrique restaurant, where he worked closely with Michelin-starred Chef Gallo. This chapter of his career involved mastering the art of slow cooking, mousses, espumas, and advanced food preparation techniques. He managed a staff of three highly skilled international chefs and was responsible for catering and private events.

Apple Original Films has unveiled a new featurette, “Character Chronicles: Leonardo DiCaprio as Ernest Burkhart”, for Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Starring DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone, “Killers of the Flower Moon” will premiere in theaters around the world, including IMAX® theaters, on October 18.
Challenged and motivated by the role of Ernest Burkhart, DiCaprio committed himself to finding a footing for the character. “He assimilated himself into the Osage culture and became very much a chameleon,” the actor says of Burkhart. “We had a lot of meetings with members of the Osage community and they were incredibly helpful. We had some great advisers – that was a deep dive.”
Whenever possible, DiCaprio sought firsthand perspectives, sometimes from actual descendants and relatives of his character. Even so, he found himself approaching one of the most complex and conflicted acting jobs of his career. Burkhart arrives in Oklahoma wounded from the war, unable to perform heavy labor, and something of a dupe, naively dangled as bait by his uncle to the single Mollie. After he becomes complicit in the conspiracy, he still feels his love is genuine.
