    From Farm to Formulations

“We’ve brought together two completely different worlds – farming and beauty – to develop a product that unlocks healthy hair with natural ingredients.

12 years ago, Dyson invested in research and understanding the science of hair. We discovered ways in which our technology could radically improve hair health. Leaps in innovation – such as our motor, heater, and airflow technology – allowed us to revolutionise haircare and achieve step-changes in performance.

Meanwhile, in an entirely different field, we have spent over a decade experimenting and investing in precision farming. We have focused on growing the best, tastiest and most nutritious produce, farmed sustainably and efficiently, while protecting the environment and encouraging biodiversity. It’s a passion and in the process I became very interested in how the farms could add to the development of ingredient-led beauty products which aid hair health.

Omega is the first Dyson product to feature an ingredient grown on Dyson Farms. Engineered for all hair types, it solves the problem of dry, tangled, frizzy hair using natural ingredients which we grow ourselves. Looking ahead, we continue to pioneer new ways to improve hair health through the application of innovation, technology and ingredient science.”

    – Sir James Dyson, Founder of Dyson and Dyson Farming

Dyson Farming was established in 2012 and is Britain’s largest farming business, with 36,000 acres of working land – that’s about the size of 20,000 football fields. Dyson Farming is a top five producer[1] of wheat grains, malting barley, oil seeds, and potatoes in the UK, as well as sunflowers for the Dyson Omega™ range. The farm’s nine-hectare sunflower field is home to over 800,000 sunflowers, some growing as tall as 6 feet.

Sunflowers weren’t chosen for their looks, but for their unique chemistry: sunflower oil is rich in essential fatty acids, particularly omegas 6 and 9, which help to deeply moisturise the hair, smooth the cuticle, and reduce frizz. Thanks to its lightweight molecular structure, the oil absorbs quickly into the hair shaft without accumulating build-up.

The Dyson Farming team implemented a number of strategies to ensure the harvested seeds contain an optimal balance of beneficial compounds, from trialling over 60 varieties of sunflower to identify those richest in natural ceramides, to conducting regular soil testing, micronutrient balancing and crop walks once the seeds were planted.

A Sensory Experience: Scent and Form

Dyson is committed to designing products that not only deliver efficacious results but are also joyful to use. The Dyson Omega™ nourishing range carries a carefully crafted fragrance composed of eight distinctive notes. Fruity top notes of sparkling citrus, green tea and bergamot create an instantly fresh, clean scent that reflects the formulation’s lightweight finish. Floral mid notes of jasmine and rose offer a comforting, sophisticated aroma as the product settles in. Once dried down, deeper notes of musk, cedarwood and oak moss emerge, leaving a soft and versatile final scent that mirrors the scent of the Dyson Chitosan™ range.

HF07 HAIR 035 RGB Talent Type1 LongStraight OverShoulder A0 TINT

Distinct from conventional liquid sprays, the Dyson Omega™ leave-in conditioning spray starts as a thicker gel-like cream in the bottle, transforming into a lightweight mist when dispensed. To achieve this, Dyson engineers designed a bespoke bottle with a custom spray mechanism, ensuring the product distributes quickly and evenly, covering any length of hair in one easy step.

Meanwhile, the Dyson Omega™ hydrating hair oil packaging is sculpted from glass, showing the oil’s rich natural colour. After trialling 112 different glass bottles, Dyson engineers opted for a weighty, sturdy design that increases stability to prevent accidental spills. The custom cap further increases stability by offering a firm grip that won’t slip out of your hands, even when slick with oil.

The Dyson Omega range is currently only available in select markets globally. Follow @dyson_ph on Instagram or sign up for the Dyson newsletter at https://www.dyson.ph/new-launches/sign-up to stay up-to-date on upcoming launches in the Philippines.

2TinCans Ph and Marco Polo Plaza Cebu Bring ‘Love, Loss, and What I Wore’ to the Stage

Clothes are never just clothes. They carry our memories, mark our milestones, and often speak when words fall short.

2TinCans Philippines, Cebu’s premier theatre communications company, and Marco Polo Plaza Cebu bring the power of storytelling to life with a heartfelt production of Love, Loss, and What I Wore, happening at 8 PM on August 16 and 17 at the Grand Ballroom of Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, Nivel Hills, Apas, Cebu City.

    01 Official Poster

Written by sisters Nora and Delia Ephron, and based on the book by Ilene Beckerman, Love, Loss, and What I Wore is a heartwarming and hilarious collection of monologues and ensemble pieces about women, clothes, and memory. The play uses clothing and accessories as a time capsule of a woman’s life — from prom dresses and purses to shoes and wedding gowns. Told through the voices of a rotating cast of women, the stories explore poignant and humorous moments tied to identity, relationships, heartbreak, family, and self-discovery.

Directed by Charlene Virlouvet, this Cebu staging features members of the 2TinCans Theatre Company—Liana San Diego, Mikee Amagsila, Regina Binueza, Shanice Kae Suarez, Shifrah Bouchikhi-Enclona, and Vanessa Fe.Also joining the cast are 2TinCans Producing Artistic Director Sarah Mae Enclona-Henderson; language school directress Aleah Alerre Lim; award-winning journalist Andi Pateña-Matheu; multi-awarded social entrepreneur Anya Lim; beauty queen and singer-songwriter Victoria Leslie Ingram; and lawyers– Elaine Bathan, College of Law Asst. Dean and former Undersecretary of the Department of Tourism; retired lawyer Gingging Navarro-Laude, and; public servant, social media personality, and LGBTQIA+ champion Regal Oliva.

“Every woman has a dress that reminds her of something—her first love, her mother, her divorce, her power. This play gives voice to those hidden hangers in our closets,” said Henderson.

Director Virlouvet described the play as a timely reflection on the generational experiences of women. “This play can bridge the disconnect amongst generations of women. It can be a space for intergenerational conversations and sharing,” she shared.

Marco Polo Plaza Cebu General Manager Maximilian Schwalbe emphasized the hotel’s growing engagement with the local community. “We want to host more cultural and social events like this for Cebuanos,” he said.Schwalbe also noted that ticket holders will enjoy special perks, including discounted room rates and dining privileges at all Marco Polo restaurants from August 15 to 18.

Complementing the performance is Stitched, a storytelling exhibit featuring a curated collection of clothes and accessories, each accompanied by a personal story that reveals its deeper meaning. “The goal is to show that fashion is more than just fabric; it’s a vessel for memory,” said Henderson.

In a world that’s constantly changing, Love, Loss, and What I Wore invites us to pause and remember who we are, where we’ve been, and how far we’ve come. Get your tickets at 2tincans-philippines.yapsody.com now!

  • Theater Review – Brecht, Vaudeville, and Freaks; A Review of The Sandbox Collective’s ‘Side Show The Musical’

Theater Review – Brecht, Vaudeville, and Freaks; A Review of The Sandbox Collective’s ‘Side Show The Musical’

Based on the real life of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton, ‘Side Show’ is a musical by Bill Russell (book and lyrics) and Henry Krieger (music) that first opened on Broadway in 1997 and was later revived in 2014 with a revised book and additional songs. The musical focuses on their journey from being the star attraction of a sideshow to becoming a success in vaudeville. The Sandbox Collective brings its own spin to the stage, using the original 1996 book and director Toff De Venecia stylized his production to make immediate contemporary connections with the material, which is set in the 1930s, to the present day.

Side Show The Musical CAST POSTER

The set design by Mark Dalacat (who also serves as assistant director), places the audience on either side of the stage, creating the impression that the audience can see a row of people watching the show, much like a sideshow. The actors come in and out from the side, though some of the action brings the actors up to the audience area. In the first act, set entirely in the sideshow, there are aerials to create the appearance of the carnival. The incredible ensemble are dressed in different styles – according to De Venecia, each member of the ensemble were allowed to create their own freak – that ranges from snake charmer, bearded woman, fortune teller, and so on.

In Act Two, when Daisy and Violet are taken away from the sideshow and into vaudeville, the stage adornments become more posh. The ensemble switch from journalists to party guests to vaudeville dancers. It’s a feast of motion and costumes that really stand out (costume design by Carlos Siongco). De Venecia’s direction is to keep it busy when their lives are busy. So that when the play moves to its more intimate, tender parts, it gets really quiet and the contrast is clear.

Side Show The Musical IMG 0417
    Credits: The Sandbox Collective

Daisy and Violet may be conjoined twins, but they are very different people. Daisy longs to be a performer and craves the limelight, whereas Violet is more reserved, wants a normal life, which equates to a family and a home. This tension creates the space for the girls to be tested when two men come into their lives who doesn’t see them as freaks but as performers capable of making it big in vaudeville. These men are Terry Connor and Buddy Foster. They clash with Sir/The Boss of the sideshow, convince their best friend, the show’s “Cannibal King” Jake to let them go and come along with them, and find themselves intertwined with the twins more than just professionally. Violet takes a fancy to Terry while Buddy is keen on making Daisy’s dreams come true. And that’s where the trouble begins.

Side Show The Musical IMG 0147
    Credits: The Sandbox Collective

Aside from an incredible ensemble who are filled with such diverse types of people but they all can sing and dance and act a storm. Jon Santos is a menacing force as Sir/The Boss and his presence is felt strongly even in his infrequent appearances in act two. The rest of the main cast is split into alternates. Playing Violet and Daisy are Marynor Madamesila and Tanya Manalang and Molly Langley and Krystal Kane; for Terry, it is Reb Atadero and CJ Navato; for Buddy it is Tim Pavino and Vien King; and for Jake, it is Marvin Ong and Joshua Cabiladas.

Side Show The Musical IMG 0111 2
    Credits: The Sandbox Collective

The alternates bring different approaches to the material. Madamesila and Manalang play the sisters very differently. Their differences in character are so clear while Langley and Kane have to fight through the fact that, in makeup, they look alike, and they even have the same quality of voice. Their attack can sometimes be similar in approach and so their Violet and Daisy sometime blur, though they are excellent singers. Navato and King have a more straightforward approach to Terry and Buddy. Navato plays Terry as all business and King plays up Buddy’s need for the spotlight. It’s an accessible performance and well-suited for a big theatrical piece. Atadero and Pavino play it a little more layered, with Atadero’s Terry is conflicted about how he feels about Violet while Pavino’s approach to Buddy is more contained, let’s out little bursts of his need for fame, which creates an interesting layer when his interactions with Daisy get complicated. I had issues with Cabiladas in the show that I saw.

Side Show The Musical IMG 0183
    Credits: The Sandbox Collective

A terrific singer, I felt he would lose character in order to sing the powerful songs that Jake does but Marvin Ong stole the performance at every turn. He imbued the vocally demanding songs of Jake with all the frustrations and rage of The Cannibal King that allowed a true marriage of acting and singing. Ong was, without a doubt, a scene-stealer.

Side Show The Musical IMG 0035
    Credits: The Sandbox Collective

De Venecia employs Brechtian techniques in directing ‘Side Show’ allowing us to see the stagecraft that was at play. The show opens with the ensemble engaging with the audience, a Brechtian trick to remind the audience that what they are about to see is a show. He then let’s the players change onstage, while introducing modern elements such as a screen and a camera to adorn his 1930 portrayal with a modern feel.

It can be jarring until the show’s finale when the last striking image – that of a marriage – with the whole exploration of what it means to be a freak takes a poignant meaning.

Side Show The Musical IMG 0753
    Credits: The Sandbox Collective

The play is dead set in trying to humanize the two women who the world sees as freaks, but the show is constantly reminding us that these “freaks” are humans too. The modernization of the show brings us to think about who we think are freaks in this day and age and De Venecia’s political stand becomes clearer and clearer. It’s a matter of taste, whether this friction works for you, but the intention is tangible and deeply felt.

    My Rating:

    stars 4 0

SIDE SHOW: THE MUSICAL runs until August 17, 2025, at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater. Tickets are available at Ticket2Me.

Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy Brings the Hit Webtoon to the Big Screen

What if the world of your favorite story suddenly came to life and you were the only one who knew how it ends? That’s the thrilling setup for Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy, the big-screen adaptation of the hit webtoon Omniscient Reader by singNsong. Since debuting in 2018, the story has racked up over 200 million views worldwide, and now it’s showing in cinemas with a star-studded cast and jaw-dropping visuals. Directed by Kim Byung-woo, the film brings together an exciting mix of fantasy, action, and heart, as one ordinary man races to rewrite the story’s ending and save the world.

ORIGINAL OMNISCIENT READER 1920X1080p HORIZONTAL POSTER

    When Fiction Becomes Reality

Kim Dokja (Ahn Hyo-seop), an office worker in his 20s, has been following a web novel called Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse for over a decade. He’s the only reader of the obscure novel, and when its final chapter is published, he is less than impressed by its ending, where the heroic character Yu Junghyeok (Lee Min-ho) survives alone.

    Ominscient Reader Character Still 02Dokja

After writing an angry letter to the author, the world of the novel suddenly becomes real, and the hero, Yu Junghyeok, appears in front of Dokja.

Ominscient Reader Character Still 04Junghyeok re

Now, Dokja, armed with his knowledge of the novel’s plot, must work with Yu Junghyeok and his companions to rewrite the ending and save humanity from the apocalypse.

    Omniscient Reader The Prophecy 6

Director Kim Byung-woo explains the essence of the film: “It’s a story about meeting your colleagues and working together with them in a changed world. It’s a story about ordinary people joining forces to overcome the difficulties.”

A Star-Powered Cast Bringing the Story to Life

    Ominscient Reader Character Still 01Dokja

One of the most notable parts of Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy is its star-studded cast, led by Ahn Hyo-seop as Kim Dokja. Known for his roles in A Time Called You, Doctor Romantic, and Business Proposal, Ahn makes his big-screen debut in this film. He wanted to portray Dokja as a relatable, everyday character: “I wanted him to be the most common and ordinary. I wanted to portray him with the banality that everyone could relate to.”

    Ominscient Reader Character Still 03Junghyeok

Alongside Ahn, Lee Min-ho portrays Yu Junghyeok, the novel’s heroic protagonist who is forced to confront the apocalyptic reality. Lee, known for Pachinko and The King: Eternal Monarch, put a lot of thought into his character, saying, “I thought a lot about how to express the solitude of a person who keeps living immortality and lone survival… I put extra care in every detail of his actions, looks, and expressions to make him feel real.”

    Ominscient Reader Character Still 06Sangah

Chae Soo-bin, who has captivated audiences in Sweet & Sour and The Fabulous, plays Yu Sangah, Dokja’s work colleague and moral compass. She says she was drawn to the film’s thrilling pace, saying, “I was really into the speedy and thrilling script… I wanted to make her the most realistic one in the film.”

Shin Seung-ho, NANA, JISOO, and Kwon Eun-seong round out the talented ensemble, each bringing their unique flair to their roles and adding depth to the story’s journey.

    Visually Stunning and Action-Packed

The film’s captivating world is brought to life through the work of Korea’s top filmmakers. Cinematographer Jeon Hye-jin, known for Pachinko, and action choreographer Jung Yoon-hyun, who worked on The Age of Shadows, have crafted stunning visuals and high-energy action sequences that enhance the thrilling narrative. As director Kim Byung-woo explains, the goal was to create a film that blends both the real and the fantastic in a way that feels grounded and immersive.

    Ominscient Reader Official Still 02

The film also boasts cutting-edge visual effects that bring the merged world of fiction and reality to life, with the help of VFX experts like Jung Sung-jin, whose past works include Along with the Gods and Noryang: Deadly Sea. VFX supervisor Kim Woo-cheol shared his excitement: “The theme of a novel merged into reality was interesting. It was a project that provoked me to dare with the thought ‘how should I express it visually?’”

    Ominscient Reader Character Still 14Gilyeong

Art director Lee Mok-won also says, “After ALONG WITH THE GODS, I have always wanted to do another film of fantasy genre if an opportunity presents itself. So when director Kim Byung-woo offered me this project, I said yes without a thought,” describing how quickly he got immersed into the project. He adds, “I put a lot of thoughts on making spaces in the film feel as realistic as possible. As much as it’s a fantasy film filled with unrealistic events, the audience would feel them feasible only when the spaces in the film feel realistic, that’s what I thought” giving room for imagination about a well-balanced spectacle between fantasy and reality.

    Ominscient Reader Official Still 11

A Must-Watch for Fans and Newcomers Alike

With its mix of heart-pounding action, emotional depth, and stunning visuals, Omniscient Reader is more than just another webtoon adaptation.

Whether you’ve followed Kim Dok-ja’s journey since the first chapter or are discovering it for the first time, the film offers a fresh yet faithful take on the story’s beloved world and characters.

Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy is now showing in cinemas, offering a cinematic experience where the lines between reader and hero, fiction and reality, blur in the most thrilling ways. Step into a story you thought you knew and watch it unfold on the big screen in ways you never imagined.

Unmask the Magic: “Wicked: For Good” Unveils Behind-the-Scenes Look – Flying into PH Cinemas this November 19

“It’s wild. It’s unbridled. It feels really, really epic,” That’s how Cynthia Erivo—our fierce Elphaba—describes the energy behind Wicked: For Good, the emotional conclusion to the beloved story of Oz’s iconic witches.

Helmed by visionary director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), this highly anticipated finale picks up where 2024’s smash hit Wicked left off—only now, the stakes are even higher, the emotions deeper, and the magic more intense than ever.

Watch the Behind-The-Scenes First Look Here:

    An Emotional Farewell to Oz

“It’s a much more mature, emotional journey about the consequences of the hard choices you make,” says Chu. Wicked: For Good explores the aftermath of Elphaba and Glinda’s rift as they step into new roles and reckon with their evolving destinies.

Mark your calendars: Wicked: For Good lands exclusively in Philippine theaters on November 19.

    Glinda Wicked2

The Story Ends, The Legacy Lives

“And now whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend.”

The global phenomenon that redefined Broadway for a new generation finally reaches its heart-racing, tear-jerking, utterly unforgettable conclusion. Following last year’s Wicked—which soared past expectations with 10 Academy Award® nominations and over $750 million in global box office—Wicked: For Good returns with the original creative powerhouse and all-star cast.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande (as Glinda) reprise their roles, backed by producers Marc Platt and David Stone, and executive producers Stephen Schwartz, Dana Fox, Winnie Holzman, and more. The screenplay, penned by Holzman and Fox, adapts the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, while music and lyrics come courtesy of the legendary Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, The Prince of Egypt).

A Finale Made to be Felt

Drenched in heart and dazzling visuals, Wicked: For Good isn’t just a follow-up—it’s the full-circle moment fans have waited for. With a score by John Powell and Schwartz and direction by Chu, this is a cinematic crescendo worthy of Oz’s magical legacy.

  • Movie Review: Frightening and Funny at Equal Turns, ‘Weapons’ Is a Film Best Viewed in a Group and With No Preparation at All

Movie Review: Frightening and Funny at Equal Turns, ‘Weapons’ Is a Film Best Viewed in a Group and With No Preparation at All

What made Zach Cregger’s breakout film ‘Barbarian’ so good and so enjoyable was how completely unprepared you were for where that story would take you. It was skillfully written and directed, creating dread and tension from familiar tropes in horror but twisting them so that the surprise came from another element altogether. Then halfway through ‘Barbarian,’ the story shifts to another character who then joins the first half of the narrative and bringing it to a big climax filled with gruesome horror. His latest film, ‘Weapons,’ takes all of that and blows it up. He tells the story in six chapters, following six characters and their entanglement with the main story of the film.

The film opens with a child’s narration on how, one evening in the town of Maybrook, 17 of 18 kids from one class run out of their homes and are never seen again. Some were seen on CCTV of homes, and it all happened at 2:17 in the morning.

The town left is furious and frustrated. They are desperate for answers. They want answers from the class’ homeroom teacher, Justine Gandy, but she has none to give. One of the parents of the missing kids, Archer Graff, takes it upon himself to find out what happened. The other four characters whose point-of-view we follow throughout the film include the school’s superintendent, Andrew Marcus; a police man who is a friend of Justine, Paul Morgan; a junkie named James; and the only boy of Justine’s class who didn’t disappear that night, Alex Lilly.

‘Weapons’ has everything you could ask for in a horror film: nightmarish imagery, unsettling quiet moments of tension when things make a sound at the dead of night, a terrifying evil force, brutal and grotesque violence, and, most importantly, a strong human element that allows us to connect with the characters so we actually root for them and want them to survive. As a Grade 5 homeroom teacher, Justine isn’t as a nice archetype. She drinks, she’s pushy, and at times, reckless. But her care and concern for the missing children is felt.

Julia Garner brings a spunk to the role, but doesn’t shy away from her character’s flaws, which makes her such an interesting character to follow. Josh Brolin is always a solid performer, and his Archer Graff is tormented by the unanswered questions and the worry for his missing child. These two characters really form the heart of ‘Weapons’ which elevates the horror to a place that can inspire real dread and fear. Many horror films fall short when it comes to character development. Some become flat, uninteresting that we fail to connect with them, while others lean in too much on the protagonist’s flaws making them unlikable and you end up rooting for the monster or the villain. ‘Weapons’ avoids these traps. The missing children and the pain and frustration of the whole town is felt vividly that it amplifies the film’s stakes.

At 128 minutes, the film does feel long – as there’s a lot of stories in it and a lot of characters to uncover – but it is never boring. Cregger uses each character to reveal just a little bit more about the mystery, but it keeps it really well hidden until the final character. Then the exposition begins (near the end) but instead of being boring, what it does is that it ties everything together. All five preceding chapters start to feel whole and complete. It’s a really great exercise in narrative structure.

And while ‘Weapons’ is terrifying and scary, Cregger is also not afraid to be funny and silly. He uses humor in a very clever way to derail the fear so that he can raise the horror later on. There are quite a number of funny moments involving Paul and James (wonderfully played by Aldren Ehrenreich and Austin Abrams) before cutting it as James finds himself in contact with the source of the missing children. Benedict Wong is terrific as Andrew Marcus, who is trying to protect Justine, sometimes from her own worst instincts, and try to keep peace while the town is falling apart. His character’s queerness is present but never overstated but when he becomes embroiled in the story’s horror, the effect is filled with impact.

    Weapons Movie

I’m trying to not talk in specifics because the power of ‘Weapons’ is in its ability to surprise and shock and horrify the audience. Throughout the screening, people were screaming, laughing, and then screaming again. It was such an enjoyable watch, especially in a full cinema filled with an attentive audience. ‘Barbarian’ was already such an incredible movie, I’m happy to say that ‘Weapons’ builds on the strength of Cregger’s first big hit and slams another home run.

    My Rating:

    stars 5 0
