Fisher Mall meaningfully opened the holiday season at their Quezon Avenue branch with its Christmas tree-lighting ceremony on November 28, 2024, which they celebrated along with the official kick-off of their Fishing for Joy campaign.
Fishing for Joy is an initiative of Fisher Mall where Fisher Elite Card holders are able to easily contribute towards supporting the chosen beneficiary of Fisher Mall. With every purchase of consumers using their Fisher Elite Card from now until December 31, 2024, 10% goes into donations. This year, Fisher Mall continues its partnership with their chosen charity, Bahay Aruga Inc., a non-government organization that provides temporary shelter and support for children battling cancer.
“As we enter the season of giving, this initiative allows us to spread joy beyond the holiday season. Our Fishing for Joy campaign is our way of giving back and partnering with Bahay Aruga Inc. reflects our commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those in our community,” said Raymond Del Rosario, President of Fisher Mall Group of Companies at the lighting ceremony. “As we want to strengthen the sense of community and foster a spirit of giving, we want to make it easy for our shoppers to take part in the initiative, and give them the opportunity to make a difference.”
The event was also attended by key officials from Quezon City Government, including Congressman Juan Carlos “Arjo” Atayde, who took part in the gift-giving ceremony for the beneficiaries. Also present were Quezon City District 1 Action Officer, Ollie Belmonte and Tourism Officials Ma. Victoria Auto and Vince Buenaventura. Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) Chairman and CEO Frederico J. Elizalde and his wife, Lisa Macuja, also showed their support to the event.
President Del Rosario said that the “Fishing for Joy” campaign reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to bringing the community together through meaningful, on-the-ground activities. He also noted that the initiative is a part of the vision passed down from his father and Fisher Mall Group of Companies Chairman, Robert “Bobby” Del Rosario, who was present at the event to support.
For Fisher Mall, this is just the beginning of their long-term cause. Del Rosario explained that they have been supporting Bahay Aruga Inc. since last year because of their dedication to help children and their families during their hardest times. Given the success of their collaboration, they will continue the joint community service through the Fishing for Joy campaign this 2024.
This holiday season, bring your loved ones to Fisher Mall Quezon Avenue for a festive season of joy and purpose! The Christmas display will be up until January 6, 2025. To get more updates from Fisher Mall, you may visit their website and follow them on their official Facebook and Instagram .

Special guests during the activity included Malay Mayor Floribar Bautista, Rev. Fr. Francis Bolivar, and Re. Fr. Jogie Esmeralda.
Meanwhile, guests at Discovery Coron experienced a magical evening of festive tunes, Polynesian-inspired dances, and a sumptuous buffet dinner at Firefish Restaurant. Live music by the Center Stage Band carried the evening into an atmosphere of joyful cheer.

This holiday season, Jollibee is once again going all-out in spreading Christmas cheer across the Philippines by transforming select branches into “Joyful Christmas Stores.” For the second year in a row, the quick service restaurant chain is inviting families and friends to visit their brightly lit and merrily decorated stores as they celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.
True to the brand’s goal of making this the “Pasko-est” season for Filipinos, the Joyful Christmas Stores leveled up by going from just a hundred stores last year to over 240 participating stores nationwide this year, ready to welcome customers and serve them their jolly favorites this Holiday season. Store teams went all out with their decorations, adding a touch of local flavor and using designs elements unique to each province or location.
To make it easier for customers to find these Joyful Christmas Stores, and maybe even encourage them to visit as many stores as they can, Jollibee will soon be launching the Jolly Christmas Tours—a digital map powered by Google that showcases all Jollibee stores that feature unique Christmas displays. Select stores will also have activations like the JoyZone, an innovative, interactive experience that transforms smiles into delightful rewards, and the Coke Christmas Trucks, done in partnership with Coca Cola Philippines.
“Christmas is more than just a holiday for Filipinos—it’s a time when people go the extra mile to make joyful memories and create meaningful connections with loved ones. From festive reunions to thoughtful gifts, everything about Christmas in the Philippines is all-out. This is why we at Jollibee also went all-out in helping make this season the Pasko-est for our customers through our Joyful Christmas Stores,” said Dorothy Dee-Ching, VP-Marketing of Jollibee Philippines.

Health experts are raising concerns over meningococcal disease in the Philippines, with Serogroup B as the leading cause of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) and accounting for approximately 68% of cases over the recent years.1
Pediatric infectious disease specialists Dr. Lulu Bravo and Dr. Anna Ong-Lim emphasize that IMD poses a severe health risk, particularly if left untreated.[2] In the Philippines, one in every two (50%) of IMD case may result in death.[3] Young children are at the highest risk, and the disease can progress rapidly, often proving fatal within just 24 hours.3 Symptoms can escalate from nonspecific early signs to a critical state in a very short time frame.4
IMD is a life-threatening disease especially for young children3
IMD is caused by bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis commonly found in the nose and throat.[4] It spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes and can also be transmitted through salivary exchange, such as sharing utensils or drinking from the same container.5
Dr. Anna Ong-Lim explains that “Symptoms of IMD typically include fever, headache, stiff neck, and nausea. As the infection progresses, individuals may develop a rash, sensitivity to light, and confusion.4 IMD manifests as either meningitis,[5] which causes inflammation around the brain and spinal cord, or meningococcal sepsis,6 where the bacteria enter the bloodstream, leading to fever and rash.4 Both conditions require immediate medical attention, as IMD is a rapidly progressing,4 life-threatening illness with a high mortality rate if untreated.”3
The Neisseria meningitidis[5] being the most common causes of disease.7 A key concern with meningococcal bacteria is that different types are more[6] than others, and these patterns can change over time.8 More international travel to areas where certain types are widespread[7] can bring these rarer types into new places.9,[9],[10]
Serogroup B is the leading cause of meningococcal disease in the Philippines[11]
“In the Philippines, all laboratory-confirmed cases of IMD, including those linked to Serogroup B,[12] are monitored through the Philippine Integrated Disease Surveillance Response (PIDSR) System”12 says Dr. Lulu Bravo. “Asymptomatic carriers—those who carry the bacteria without showing symptoms[13]— can spread the disease, underscoring the need for more data to strengthen prevention programs” warns Dr. Bravo. “By doing so, we can give more than half of young children who contract this disease a chance to avoid the life-altering effects of IMD,” she stresses.
Meningococcal diseases can be prevented
IMD can progress rapidly, often within hours. “IMD requires immediate medical attention, as it can quickly become a life-threatening illness with a high mortality rate if left untreated,”3 Dr. Ong-Lim adds. “Prevention is our best line of defense against the devastating effects of meningococcal disease.”
Vaccines targeting different meningococcal serogroups play a vital role in prevention. Conjugate vaccines are available for multiple serogroups, such as A, C, W, and Y. Meanwhile, Serogroup B, due to its distinct bacterial structure, requires a separate vaccine.[14]
Health experts strongly urge parents to consult with their healthcare providers on how to best protect their children against invasive meningococcal disease. Understanding the risks, symptoms, and prevention options can be lifesaving. Ask your healthcare provider about how you can safeguard young children who are at higher risk against this serious and fast-acting disease.

Celebrating 28 years as the Philippines’ top culinary school, the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA Manila) continues to set the benchmark for culinary education and innovation, with a strong emphasis on Filipino cuisine.
Through its new Fundamentals of Filipino Cuisine Program (FFCP), a comprehensive 16-day short course, CCA Manila immerses students in the art of Filipino gastronomy, culinary heritage, and technique.
“This innovative program not only aligns with the government’s efforts to promote Filipino cuisine but also solidifies CCA Manila’s commitment to showcasing the potential of our local ingredients and traditions on a global scale,” says Dr. Ma. Veritas F. Luna, Chancellor of CCA Manila. “We are proud to say that we have consistently celebrated and elevated Filipino food culture.”
The FFCP offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning with a daily one-hour lecture followed by five hours of hands-on kitchen experience. Students are also given two field trips for real-world immersion, allowing them to experience firsthand the essence of Filipino culinary culture.
“Students gain insight into the diverse flavors across our 17 regions, learning ingredient selection, preparation, and the intricacies of cooking and plating regional dishes,” adds Dr. Luna. “With students from across the Philippines, CCA Manila continues to cultivate culinary talent that will thrive both locally and internationally.”
Students from the regions flock to CCA Manila
CCA Manila’s flagship program, the Diploma in Culinary Arts and Technology Management (DCATM), shapes students into future culinary leaders, equipping them with hands-on culinary skills and food service management expertise. Through this holistic program, students develop entrepreneurial skills alongside culinary craftsmanship, setting them up for success in the global food industry.
Among the current batch of students are talented individuals from various regions. For example, Bianca Llanes from Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, now in level 3 of the DCATM program, shares her pride in being mentored by industry-renowned chefs at CCA. “I’m excited for my growth in culinary skills under the guidance of top chefs. Their support gives me confidence as I advance in my studies.”
Meinhard Godoy from Brooke’s Point, Palawan, a first-year DCATM student, expresses his gratitude for CCA’s supportive environment during his adjustment to life away from home. “I am proud to be part of this world. Culinary education demands hard work, but CCA Manila’s mentors have shown me incredible support and inspired me to embrace the challenges.”
Another first-year DCATM student, Excel Mc Couley Salazar, also from Palawan, aspires to make an impact in the culinary field. “I want my food to not only bring joy but also convey culture and history. My education at CCA will help me achieve this vision as I explore my personal and professional culinary journey.”
Meanwhile, level 10 student Vince Caabay, from Puerto Princesa, Palawan, values the hands-on experiences he has gained at CCA. “Being a CCA student has given me the opportunity to work alongside professional chefs, and that exposure inspires me to strive for excellence.
In the future, Vince plans to work at a fine dining restaurant or hotel: “I look forward to the many doors this education will open for me, both locally and abroad. I know my CCA Manila education will help me achieve my goal to be a renowned chef someday.”
“CCA Manila continues to welcome culinary aspirants from all over the country. We are committed to transforming dreams into reality through a hands-on, industry-relevant education. With guidance from seasoned chef-instructors, students are prepared to make their mark in the culinary world,” said Dr. Luna.
