Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson star in Marry Me, a fresh and relevant romance for this modern age – 21st century Roman Holiday meets Notting Hill.
In Marry Me, we meet Kat Valdez (Lopez), half of the sexiest celebrity power couple on Earth with hot new music supernova Bastian (Maluma, in his feature-film debut). As Kat and Bastian’s inescapable hit single, “Marry Me,” climbs the charts, they are about to be wed before an audience of their fans in a ceremony that will be streamed across multiple platforms.
Then there’s divorced high-school math teacher Charlie Gilbert (Wilson) who has been dragged to the concert by his daughter Lou (Chloe Coleman, HBO’s Big Little Lies) and his best friend Parker (Sarah Silverman, Hulu’s I Love You, America). When Kat learns, seconds before the ceremony, that Bastian has cheated on her, her life turns left as she has a meltdown on stage, questioning love, truth and loyalty.
Marry Me proposes that if what you know lets you down, then perhaps what you don’t know is the answer, and so, in a moment of inspired insanity, Kat chooses to marry Charlie. What begins as an impulsive reaction evolves into an unexpected romance. But as forces conspire to separate them, the universal question arises: Can two people from such different worlds bridge the gulf between them and build a place where they both belong?
As fantastical as the premise for the film may seem at first, film director Kat Coiro (who also currently serves as executive producer and director for the majority of the series in Marvel’s She Hulk for Disney+) shares that many of the greatest true love stories often started in improbable, or impossible, ways. “When it comes to love, nothing is truly impossible. When you start asking people how they met their partner, you’ll hear these stories that seem like everything had to line up for that relationship to happen,” Coiro says. “Beneath all the wildness of this story, these are just two people meeting and falling in love, which happens every day.”
That perspective on the film was exactly what Lopez and her fellow filmmakers were looking for. “Kat had a real vision for what this movie could be,” Lopez says. “She was also fantastic to work with throughout the development of the film. People are going to love her work in this.”
Lopez, as both the film’s leading lady as well as a producer, brought every aspect of her experience at the height of the entertainment industry to bear on making the film into a true romantic event for audiences.
Jennifer Lopez immediately connected with Kat and the film’s themes on multiple levels. “I understand this life,” Lopez says. “The film is literally going behind the veil of what it’s like to be a celebrity.”
Save-the-date! A Universal Pictures International release, Marry Me will open in Philippine cinemas starting February 9.

Merrell, a brand best known for its outdoor collection of hiking boots and trail runners, continues to pique the interest of loyalists, streetwear enthusiasts, and sneakerheads alike by releasing three new colorways of their unique-looking water shoe, including a women’s style this time. Undoubtedly eye-catching and surprisingly functional, the Hydro moc has garnered significant buzz and more than a few rave reviews upon its introduction to the country last November of its Black and Navy styles.
The “ugly” shoe now comes in new Spring-ready shades like Butternut and Black/Brindle for men and Burgundy for women. Made with a single piece of rubberized EVA foam, the Hydro Moc is an all-rounder that is just as suited for the beach and the camping trail as it is on city streets and even casual bike rides as it combines a sleek, ironic fashion with technical function.
First released in North America, the Hydro Moc drew immediate attention from the media and the general public because of its unusual and unforgettable look. The shoe has since garnered scores of fans from Latin America, East Asia, Australia, and now the Philippines. Appealing both to streetwear aficionados and island lifers the world over, the Hydro Moc has often been worn with brightly colored socks or on their own for outdoor activities at the beach, camping, and biking.
For a more easy-on, easy-off experience, the Hydro Slide provides the same kind of comfort but with more freedom on-foot, making it a perfect aftersport sandal. Last year saw the release of Black and White colorways of the slide. This year welcomes a women’s-only Burgundy colorway.

Paramount Pictures has just announced that its US No.1 box-office hit Scream will hold special sneak previews in selected cinemas nationwide on Tuesday, February 1. Horror fans are advised to check with their favorite theaters for the screening hours and ticket prices.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnUeWdf3T6I
Scream, which opens wide in Philippine cinemas on February 2, has been rated R-16 Without Cuts by the Movie & Television Review & Classification Board (MTRCB). Fans are guaranteed to see the film in its integral, original version, complete with all the “strong language, gore, and graphic depiction of murders.” As Ben Travis of Empire Magazine writes, “In an era of elevated horror, it’s a gloriously gory basement party.”
Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. Neve Campbell (“Sidney Prescott”), Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) and David Arquette (“Dewey Riley”) return to their iconic roles in “Scream” alongside Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar.
Scream is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S). The film is written by James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick, based on the characters created by Kevin Williamson.
Scream is a long-running genre-busting horror franchise which generated four feature films including Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000) and Scream 4 (2011). Directed by famed “maestro of horror,” the late Wes Craven, the films went on to gross more than $600 million in worldwide box office receipts. Williamson wrote the original film as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4.
In Philippine cinemas February 2, Scream is distributed by Paramount Pictures through Columbia Pictures. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube. Connect with #ScreamMovie and tag paramountpicsph.
Academics, artists, and everyone interested in the great William Shakespeare must not miss the upcoming webinar series titled To Double Business Bound: Shakespeare as Academic and Artistic Practice.
Happening every 5 PM from January 26 to 28 via Zoom, this webinar series is set to explore the intersections between academic and artistic practices around Shakespeare, and asks how these might work in a Philippine context. Contrary to seeing the work of Shakespeare scholars and theater practitioners as separate spheres, the series will interrogate and capitalize upon the synergies between them.
The webinar series also features speakers from leading academic and theatrical institutions in both the Philippines and the UK, including the Shakespeare Institute at Stratford-Upon-Avon of the University of Birmingham, and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Check out the speakers and their schedules below:
This 3-day webinar series invites all teachers, students, playwrights, and actors interested in Shakespeare. Whether they engage with the plays in the classroom or the theater, on the page or in performance, they can benefit from the insight of both academics and/or practicing artists who can speak to the affordances and challenges of being “to double business bound.”
