After two years of being cooped up inside our homes, Filipinos are now traveling with a vengeance. This phenomenon, coined as ‘revenge travel’ in 2021, describes the eager need to make up for lost time by going on adventures, big-splurge vacations, and seeing friends and family more often than usual.
As borders slowly reopen and restrictions start to ease, aspiring travelers have started to revisit their travel plans to make their dream destinations a reality. The urge to make up for lost time and canceled plans has been stronger than ever. Filipinos have a newfound desire to travel like never before.
However, planning for a trip can be both exciting and overwhelming. With all the preparations necessary for travel, staying fresh and keeping your hygiene in check is a must even during long hours on the road.
Ready for your revenge trip? Here are some tips to stay fresh while on the go:
Remember that less is better when packing
When packing personal necessities, Filipinos must remember that less is better. Select airplane-ready sizes (100mL or less!) to maintain your current routine like shampoo, moisturizers, makeup, and even toothpaste.
Luckily, DENTISTE’, the no. 1 premium oral brand in South Korea*, has on-the-go Travel Sets, Mini Mouthwashes, and even Breath Sprays that fit in your carry-on or even your pocket. TSA safe – guaranteed!
A lifesaver for long-haul/red-eyes flights when your mask breath gets funky and a nice pick-me-up during flights.
Skip the generic hotel toothpaste and stay fresh for your entire trip!
Stay Hydrated even when on-the-go
Whether you’re traveling on a budget or not, staying hydrated is a must, although it’s easy to forget to drink water when you’re on the go all day. Drinking water can help prevent bad breath as it helps keep your mouth clean and kill bacteria. Staying hydrated can also help you feel refreshed all day, especially when you’re at a humid destination.
Eat a well-balanced meal
When traveling, our bodies can feel tired and drained from all the activities and long hours on the road. Eating a well-balanced meal is the key to helping keep your body nourished and energized. Avoid overindulging to give your body steady levels of energy which will help you create more fun memories during your vacation.
Keep mints with you at all times
The last thing you want to happen while traveling is to run into someone you know, only to greet them with bad breath – yikes! Breath mints are handy dandy lifesavers that fit in your bag or even your pockets. While there are specialized breath mints designed for the sole purpose of keeping your breath fresh such as DENTISTE’s Love Mints, any minty candy will do.
Using Nighttime toothpaste for traveling long hours
DENTISTE’s Nighttime toothpaste is actually intended to keep our breath fresh overnight. Its all-natural formula fights bacteria and provides a minty fresh breath even after 8 hours.
Made from 14 natural extracts (ingredients like sage, peppermint, and eucalyptus) and free from harsh chemicals, DENTISTE’ Nighttime Toothpaste is part of a recommended 3-step oral ritual of brushing, flossing, and anti-bacterial rinsing. DENTISTE’ also recommends using tongue cleaners, mints, and breath sprays to ensure a full day of fresh breath.
DENTISTE’ products are available – both in full and travel size – online at BeautyMNL, Shopee, Lazada, or any major supermarkets and pharmacies.
From 87North’s Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, producers of bare-knuckle hit films such as Bullet Train, Nobody, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw comes “Violent Night”, a holiday action-comedy that says you should always bet on red.
Starring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Santa Claus and as a surprise combatant who’s about to prove why Nick is no saint when a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve and takes everyone inside hostage. “Violent Night’s” Santa Claus is the real Santa, but in a way that we’ve never seen him before. This Santa is a protector and a warrior with some seriously bad-ass skills, but in the film, he’s become slightly bitter and tired about the otherwise merry holiday.
Jonathan “Jojo” Eusebio, a Filipino stunt director who has worked with 87North on various projects, including on the John Wick franchise delivers the action as the second unit director in Violent Night. “Jojo was one of the original members of our choreography team, so we’ve been working together a good 20 years,” producer Leitch says. “The talent that’s gravitated to 87North is beyond the physical. There’s a common work ethic and desire to make movies, and Jojo has always had that same drive in him. I have so much respect for him and love the work he’s been doing, both with 87North and without.”
The success formula for 87North includes having stunt teams that are better than anyone else in the world at their craft. “Jojo had the desire to be challenged and he was inspired by the Christmas backdrop,” producer McCormick says. “He brought a team together that had amazing athleticism and skill, and I think they all learned a lot about blending the wit and comedy with the action in the film along the way.”
David Harbour trained intensely and extensively for the role, which allowed for more specialty shots, long takes and big movements that wouldn’t have been able to be done safely without that hardcore training.
Harbour’s work added depth to Santa’s backstory and allowed the audience to find a deeper connection and empathy with the character. “When we meet him in the film, Santa is a curmudgeon who doesn’t like Christmas anymore, but underneath that, he’s a broken man,” Leitch says. “It gives the character humanity and makes him relatable, and that came from suggestions from David.”
For his part, Harbour wasn’t initially sure about the role when the idea of the film was first explained to him. “I first heard the pitch from my agent, who told me, ‘It’s a violent Santa Claus movie,’” Harbour says. “My initial response was, ‘What are you talking about?’ But then, they told me the filmmakers wanted to talk to me about it. So, they called me up and told me the general idea, and it sounded so hilarious, fresh and different.”
A Universal Pictures International feature, “Violent Night” will open in PH cinemas on November 30. Rated R-16 by the local censors board.
Home to thousands of hours of movies and series from The Walt Disney Company’s creative studios, including Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios, 20th Television, and more, Star also houses exclusive Asian language Originals produced in collaboration with producers and directors in the Asia Pacific region.

Nonprofit organization and volunteer-powered I am M.A.D. (Making A Difference) has just successfully convened its biggest and grandest physical gathering in the history of its award-winning ‘MAD (Making A Difference) Talks’ event.
Held recently at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati City, the community convention dubbed as “MAD Talks presents: Sa Ngayon, Padayon. (Kwentuhan. Kantahan. Kabayanihan.)” and themed in collaboration with digital creator and witty shirts brand Linya-Linyaput the spotlight on volunteerism and mental health.
Co-presented by the Rotary Club of Makati Uptown, Rotary District 3830, and H.E.L.P. Pilipinas, the gathering saw some 250 participants consisting of its volunteers and delegates from various organizations and networks, students, youth leaders, educators, and young professionals to mark the World Mental Health Day in October. The event highlighted the spirit of resilience and positivity that come from purpose. ‘Padayon’ is a term used in several Visayan languages which means to move on, to carry on, to move forward or to keep going.
“Your deepest hugot is your most effective advocacy,” said Maco Ravanzo, I am M.A.D.’s co-founder and chief executive volunteer during his “Kwento ng Bawat Boluntir talk.” He added that no matter what anyone is going through, in the spirit of optimism and resilience, there will always be a reason to bounce back and we can all make a difference,” Ravanzo likewise emphasized that managing mental health is very important in making sure that you live a life where you can achieve what you want without being held back. “We can do it, the M.A.D. way, by applying what we do as a volunteer group — Mind your mind, Acknowledge and accept, and Discover to recover,” he stressed in talking about “Managing Mental Health, the I am M.A.D. way.”
The MAD Talks Padayon event started off with an original musical grand opening salvo entitled, “Superherong Walang Kapa” by the performers from Jose Rizal University’s Teatro Rizal, followed by welcome remarks from its co-presenter H.E.L.P. Pilipinas’ founder Dr. Mildred Vitangcol and a message from one of its partners, Unilab Foundation, represented by Dani Valera, Project Specialist for its Youth Forward PH program.
Moreover, amazing theatrical performances from 22 artists of Teatro Rizal enthralled the audience that included their original musical composition titled “Lupa ng Saya,” along with soulful renditions of “Nobela” by Tawag ng Tanghalan four-time defending champion Vanessa Celestial, “Ako Naman Muna” by GMA’s The Clash and Tawag ng Tanghalan alumnus Kyle Pasajol and ensemble. Teatro Rizal’s very own Armando Leo Mansilungan also performed a spoken poetry titled “Hindi Ka Isang Manunulat.”
Volunteering and mental well-being
I am M.A.D co-founder and chairman Christian Marx Rivero brought the audience back to the organization’s humble beginnings as he wholeheartedly shared his volunteering story and the group’s journey through his “Kwento ng I am M.A.D.” segment titled “Molding Myself and Making a Movement.”
Regarded as “Your Ultimate Hugot Event,” the MAD Talks event consists of three parts called “Nagmahal,” “Nasaktan,” and “Nagvolunteer” or Kwentong N3. Participants were touched and inspired by the heartfelt firsthand experiences and stories of volunteer-guest speakers led by peace and development champion and counter-terrorism operator Capt. AJ Ramos Celestial of the Philippine Army who shared his “Kwentong Nagmahal,” about how he conquered anxiety while loving the country. He was especially introduced by his sister Vanessa after the latter’s soulful singing.
Meanwhile, women empowerment advocate and I am M.A.D.’s chief of volunteer operations & partnerships Ruth Butad spoke about “Kwentong Nasaktan,” which narrated her dealing with depression during detachment. The Kwentong N3 concluded with multi-awarded Global Youth Leader and ASEAN Youth Advocates Network founder Mirus Ponon recounting his “Kwentong Nagvolunteer” that examined his transitioning from a teen with low self-esteem to a multi-awarded young individual.
During a health break segment, the audience had fun in the “Sa Ngayon Padayon, Tumindig Ngayon” last man standing game. Three participants received gift certificates from one of the sponsors, Power Mac Center.
On the keynote talk about “Raising Mental Health Awareness through Storytelling,” the attendees were equally inspired and moved to tears as Happy Hearts Initiative & Introspect PH co-founder and mental health coach Ymari Kristia Pascua, whose story was featured on ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya program, shared her “Kwento ng Padayon” amidst mental health adversities to increase understanding on the matter.
Everyone in the audience ‘made a difference,’ too
On top of volunteerism and mental health awareness talks and performances, the grand convention took a tug at the heart of everyone with a surprise short documentary video on the moving story of the Baluyot family entitled, “Kwentong Padayon ni Candice.” It starred by I am M.A.D.’s very own volunteer creative officer and mental health advocate herself, Candice Baluyot and her mother Catherine, who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.
With the help of other I am M.A.D. volunteers, Candice personally hand-brewed and produced the iced coffee tokens which were given to all the participants as part of their ticket purchase. And as announced during the final part of the program, all the proceeds from the iced coffee which amounted to P26,000 will go to the Baluyot family. By just buying a ticket, everyone who took part in the event made a simple yet meaningful contribution.
The short documentary film, in collaboration with Vineyard Films and directed by I am M.A.D.’s multi-awarded independent film enthusiast and one of the event directors and lead organizers, Ram Esteban Estael, also marked the comeback of the nonprofit organization’s CineMAD production.
Prior to the main event, participants experienced some “MADgic” from the talented personalities, namely: Mr. Magic of the Philippines Mac Florendo, card magician Jofer Abata, and mentalist Emmanuel Espiritu. Everyone was greeted with an array of booth exhibits, a grand photo wall, and a specially designed tote bag with a bottle of coffee and other freebies. All participants also took home a gift box full of care kit items containing health supplements and vitamins from one of its partners, Pharex.
The grandest community gathering ended with free mental health coaching and consultations led by the volunteers from Mental Health PH and the National Youth Commission – Mental Health Youth Hub.
As MAD Talks Padayon organizers have activated a digital opinion board, the group is thankful for positive notes from the attendees and will consequently use inputs for succeeding events. Just in time for Valentine’s Day 2023 comes the third installment of the blockbuster “Magic Mike” film franchise, the musical comedy Magic Mike’s Last Dance. Check out the film’s official trailer.
Trailer Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures
The creative team behind the first film “Magic Mike,” which garnered praise from critics and audiences alike, has reunited to create the magic again in “Magic Mike’s Last Dance”: Channing Tatum reprises his role as Mike Lane and Steven Soderbergh returns to the helm with a script from Reid Carolin, who also wrote the first two films. And starring alongside Tatum is Salma Hayek Pinault (“House of Gucci,” “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”).
“Magic” Mike Lane (Tatum) takes to the stage again after a lengthy hiatus, following a business deal that went bust, leaving him broke and taking bartender gigs in Florida. For what he hopes will be one last hurrah, Mike heads to London with a wealthy socialite (Hayek Pinault) who lures him with an offer he can’t refuse…and an agenda all her own. With everything on the line, once Mike discovers what she truly has in mind, will he—and the roster of hot new dancers he’ll have to whip into shape—be able to pull it off?

In 2020, the 1st Gador Awards were conferred to six individual honorees (Agnes Locsin, Maria Todi, Sunnie Noel, Steven P.C. Fernandez, Nestor Horfilla, and Joey Ayala) and two organizations (Sining Kambayoka Ensemble and Integrated Performing Arts Guild). Due to the pandemic, the awarding programs were held virtually and onsite.
The awarding ceremony in Tagum City was made even more meaningful with the superb performances rendered by some of the most prominent Mindanao artists and performing groups led by the four organizations who are Gador Awardees – Kaliwat, Kathara, Kabpapagariya Ensemble and Tambuli. Adding excitement to the event were musical and dance performances by the Kuntaw Mindanao of Tagum City, RMMC Teatro Ambahanon and Ching Salubre of Gen. Santos City, University of Mindanao Chorale and Maan Chua of Davao City. Two young and talented kids from Tagum City, Tristan Jacob H. Cortez and Keysha Nicole Q. Grancho hosted the program that was written and directed by Dr. Bart P. Savior with concept-repertoire line up by CCP CED Department Manager Chinggay Jasareno-Bernardo, who also facilitated the awarding ceremony. The following officers from KSS Mindanao network served as presentors: Richard Banzuelo (Koronadal), Leonardo Carino (Gen. “Magpasalamat”(give thanks), a composition of Dr. Tejero based on a Manobo motif was given a new arrangement and interpretation in music and dance by Kaliwat and Kathara. The said song was used for the 2021 Centennial Celebration of the Silliman University in Dumaguete City. Songs by Waway and Popong: Mga Panginoon (The Gods) based on Waway’s arrangement, Bahaghari Tayo (We are Rainbows), and litsa Tamoka Yataki Tombi (a song advocacy to stop Lumad oppression, discrimination, marginalization, and call for self-determination and sovereignty), were likewise given a new musical arrangement and rendition by Kuntaw, Ching, Maan, and Kabpapagariya. The finale number featured the song “Padayon” (move forward) composed by Grace Nono, choral arrangement by Rodolfo Delarmente and performed by the UM Chorale with a dance interpretation by the Ambahanon.
