  • Explora Ahora: A more personal, deeper, and sustainable way to explore the Philippines

The Philippines holds diverse meanings for different individuals — just like the 7,000-plus islands it embraces. For foreigners visiting the country for the first time or locals who want a more unique way of exploring the islands, there can be a deeper, personal, and more sustainable way to uncover the beauty of the Philippines — courtesy of Explora Ahora.

    1. Explora Ahora founder Angely Dub believes that the Philippines is more than a backpacking destination. There is so much more to explore and experience

Recently launched, Explora Ahora is a travel company with a mission to introduce to the world genuine Philippine adventures emphasizing community tourism. Ahora (which means “now” in Spanish) invites everyone to experience the country’s mesmerizing landscapes, seascapes, and renowned Filipino hospitality, promising travelers a genuine connection with the Philippines and its people.

Founded by young entrepreneur Angely Dub, who also established the successful Access Travel, Explora Ahora returns to its roots.

“While Access Travel connects our clients globally, Explora Ahora brings them closer to the heart of our home,” said Angely, who was born and raised in the Philippines. “I want them to see our beautiful country with new eyes — we are more than our beaches and sunsets; we are beyond a typical backpackers’ destination.”

    3. Angely Dub created Explora Ahora because she wants to elevate the travelers experience to the Philippines as something more personal and unique

Drawing on 12 years of travel expertise from Access Travel, Explora Ahora charts a new path — offering curated local experiences. This includes activities such as diving with a local diver in the pristine islands of Palawan and Bohol or exploring rich heritage sites with a history scholar in provinces such as Ifugao, Bulacan, or Iloilo. For food, the culinary experience is heightened with stories from the chefs and cooks, even letting guests embark on a “soil-to-soul” journey of the produce they consume.

Since Explora Ahora’s tour experiences are crafted in collaboration with local communities, these not only promote cultural immersion but also emphasize sustainable tourism, benefiting local economies and preserving the environment in the process. With groups kept to a minimum, each journey becomes more intimate, going beyond merely hopping from one place to another.

    5. Angely Dub developed Explora Ahoras tour packages in collaboration with local communities as it emphasizes sustainable tourism benefiting local economies and preserving the environment

“Explora Ahora’s goal is to be the foremost choice for travelers seeking the Philippines’ true essence,” said Angely. “Therefore, we made sure that we do not offer the usual touristy itinerary, as we aim to elevate the travelers’ experience to something more personal and experiential.”

Explora Ahora’s young and dynamic team has a deep knowledge of the Philippines, and complemented with partnerships with those from the local communities, they can tailor itineraries that cater to individual traveler interests. The offering includes assured quality in accommodations, transportation, unparalleled customer service, and a seamless cashless booking system. All itineraries are guaranteed to be tested first by the Explora Ahora team, including Angely herself, ensuring clients embark on a journey that’s been well-vetted.

  • Kay Sarap Balikan, Paskong Nakaraan: Pan de Manila Brings Back a Traditional Filipino Christmas with Nostalgic Artwork by Mia de Lara

Imagine the delight on the faces of your family members as you set down the new Pan de Manila paper bags on your dining table. Inside the bags are your household’s usual fare: pandesal and spreads and boxes of creamy coffee blends. On the paper bag’s exterior and in the holiday packaging of your favorite Cafe con Leche and Chocolate con Leche, a traditional Filipino stone house stands in the middle of laidback plaza life. Women in their baro’t saya stand under the shade of a towering mango tree as onlookers in traditional Spanish-era garb continue to prepare for the noche buena ahead. With packaging this beautiful, you can give them as gifts, store them as keepsakes, or put them on display in a corner of your home.

Look back to the nostalgic past of Old Manila with Pan de Manila. These beautifully designed packaging were created by local artist Mia de Lara. 2

Known for serving our favorite pandesal in the Philippines, Pan de Manila has always been a purveyor of Filipino traditions, celebrations, and recipes. One of their yearly traditions is collaborating with local artists to promote Filipino arts. Through this special illustrated design collaboration with iconic graphic designer Mia de Lara, Pan de Manila releases this nostalgic and elegant packaging for Christmas.

Dreaming in sepia – a Filipino Christmas throwback

Pan de Manila’s Christmas theme this year is Kay Sarap Balikan, Paskong Nakaraan. Whenever we talk about our favorite Christmas memories, we always go back to simpler and slower times. No matter what generation we are from, we always think of coming together as a family during Christmas.

Beautiful artworks by Mia de Lara depict traditional Christmas before the turn of the century in Pan de Manilas holiday packaging

As you gather around the table this year, Pan de Manila pairs the experience with holiday packaging that you’ll want to keep for years to come. De Lara’s artwork is long-lasting– like Filipino celebrations of Christmas.

    About the artwork

The intricate plaza scene by Mia de Lara invokes an important conversation with history. By showing the generation today what an idyllic Filipino life once was, Mia crafted an original drawing that is not only pleasing to the senses but also emotionally stirring and uplifting.

While she was making the artwork for Pan de Manila’s holiday packaging, she thought of the delicious feasts that awaited her family whenever they would travel to Pampanga, her mother’s hometown, to celebrate together. “I think what makes a Filipino Christmas truly unique is the family ties that bind us closely together,” shared Mia. “No matter how far away you are in the world, Christmas signals homecoming, reunion, and reconciliation.”

    Rekindling Christmas traditions with family

So what awaits your Christmas homecoming this year? As you share stories and make new memories around the dining table, Pan de Manila hopes that you rekindle the family spark of Christmas by going back to your Filipino roots. You can even celebrate with relatives by enjoying traditional Filipino meals at Merienda by Pan de Manila. The new restaurant cafe of our favorite bakery chain celebrates Filipino heritage by curating the best flavors from different provinces so you may relive the warmth of your childhood days from right here in the city.

    PanDeManila

As the kids count down at midnight, take a quick look at De Lara’s intricate plaza scene on Pan de Manila’s holiday packaging and let nostalgia wash over your senses. Elegant and timeless. Just like a traditional Filipino Christmas.

For the past 15 years, Pan de Manila has featured the works of up-and-coming local artists on its Filipino Art-inspired Christmas paper bags. Past years’ collaboration includes artists such as Larry Memije, Rina Albert-Llamas, Dante Hipolito, Amador Barquilla, Jovan Benito, Bibsy Torio, Noel Mahilum, Christian Regis, among others.

  • GCash for Business Elevates Philippine Enterprises with Customer-Centric Solutions

In a rapidly evolving market, customer experience is becoming the cornerstone of business success. Recent studies have highlighted the undeniable importance of providing exceptional customer service. Notably, a PwC study indicated that customers are willing to pay a premium for top-notch service, while 32% would abandon a brand after just one poor experience. Moreover, according to the Temkin Group, loyal customers are significantly more likely to repurchase, forgive mistakes, and refer a brand.

In response to these insights, GCash for Business hosted the “Experience Easy” Business Summit, aimed at equipping Philippine companies of all sizes with the tools needed to meet the rising expectations of the local market.

    GCash for Business

“Customers have their own point of view of what they expect from brands they interact with, and they’re not shy about letting everyone know. This forces businesses to face two realities: they can learn directly from their customers what they need, but they can also be immediately called out for unfavorable service,” said Kate Cruz, Head of B2B Marketing. “As a finance super app with millions of users, GCash is uniquely positioned to know exactly what Filipinos want to help businesses create enjoyable and relevant experiences for their customers at every touchpoint.”

Experience Easy with GCash for Business

With mobile usage accounting for about 70% of internet traffic and with a projection to increase in the coming years, businesses have ample opportunities to offer meaningful experiences to their customers. However, with countless channels to choose from, creating such experiences can become overwhelming and expensive.

With a multitude of financial products and services available for every Filipino, GCash for Business makes it easy for companies to effectively engage multiple customer touch points and address critical challenges to achieve specific goals.

    • Experience Easy and Preferred Payments

The Philippines is already considered as one of the largest and quickly expanding eCommerce markets in the world, and the fight for market share in this space will only get tougher. As a consumption-driven market, Filipinos are also motivated to purchase more when there are less barriers to deal with.

With GCash for Business, companies can give their customers a seamless experience with every transaction for an already captured market of over millions of users. Merchant transactions can be conveniently and quickly done online via Webpay,or in-store via Scan-to-Pay, allowing customers to pay however and whenever they want.

To also avoid long queues, Scan to Order was also recently introduced wherein customers can now order directly on the GCash app. They can easily skip  the queue, order and pay directly on the app and go straight to the store for pick up – improving the overall shopping experience.

    • Experience Easy and Relevant Advertisements

With customer loyalty becoming more elusive than ever, personalization has become a key strategy for all businesses. Customers have high expectations from businesses to know their interests by offering relevant recommendations and targeted promotions.

With GCash for Business Ad Solutions, companies can easily create tailor-fit and timely messaging based on customer behavior. They also have easy access to promo solutions that include affinity targeting, geo-targeted ads, and hyper-AI ads to reach exactly who they want to reach when they need to be reached.

    • Experience Easy and Flexible Installment Options

Every transaction and every sale is valuable in a highly competitive environment, and it’s up to each merchant to help customers on a tighter budget make the purchase. When customers deal with less financial burden every time they buy, businesses can convert more visits to sales while giving customers freedom to manage their transactions in the easiest way possible.

For eligible GCash users, businesses can offer different flexible payment plans and options via GGives, the easy-to-pay installment plan, or GCredit, an extended credit line. Whether online or in-store, merchants can take advantage of lending solutions fit for their business model and their customers.

    • Experience Easy and Efficient Disbursements

Good customer experience should be carried end-to-end, which happens beyond the point where customers receive their products or services. While businesses tend to focus on putting their offers on the market, customers continue to expect positive engagement long after the transaction is completed.

GCash for Business Funds Disbursement Solutions gives businesses the flexibility to complete online or offline transactions in various ways. This also eliminates the hassle and associated risks of cash handling especially when it comes to large payments. Coupled with upgraded incentives such as customizable vouchers or even the availability of a GCash Card, businesses can easily facilitate convenient and rewarding experiences for end customers throughout their entire purchase journey.

“There are many ways to engage a customer – the trick is knowing how to do it right,” said Luigi Reyes, VP for Commercial Sales and Operations. “Although there are many technologies available, we focus on providing our clients and partners with the essential elements that customers value the most – speed, convenience, and personalization. With GCash for Business, both businesses and their customers can benefit from an easy-to-use platform that streamlines transactions and enhances their overall experience.”

Companies have the opportunity to engage and retain their customer base by fulfilling their demands. With the increasing popularity of digital payments and online transactions, enterprises in the Philippines can now offer easy and flexible payment options and rewards, both online and offline, to millions of Filipinos through GCash for Business.

GCash for Business offers Philippine enterprises a valuable opportunity to enhance customer engagement. By leveraging digital solutions that prioritize user experience, businesses can stay ahead in an increasingly competitive market.

  • The 26th French Film Festival Makes It Iconic with the Latest Box Office Hits and More

Get ready to paint the city blue, red, and white as the French Film Festival makes it iconic and celebrates 26 years of bringing some of the best contemporary movies from France to the Filipino audience.

The French Embassy in the Philippines and Micronesia, in partnership with SM Supermalls and SM Cinema, stages the 26th French Film Festival from November 25 to December 3. A suite of about 21 French feature films will be shown simultaneously at SM Mall of Asia and SM Megamall, with a selection of new releases, some of the biggest box office hits of the year, and a few classics featuring icons of French cinema.

In a country that pioneered cinema in Asia, film is perhaps the most suitable medium to promote cultural understanding in the Philippines. Through the moving images, the values and traditions of society are conveyed and appreciated by the public, allowing them to identify or at least react to situations that may be shared by different people across the globe.

The French Film Festival is also a platform to engage the public on certain advocacies, beginning with the Environment. This year’s French film fest opens with ACIDE (Acid Rain) which tells the story of the plight of a family caught in a climatic catastrophe. To commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Children, the documentary film UN SILENCE SI BRUYANT (Such A Resounding Silence) by Emmanuelle Béart and Anastasia Mikova prompts the victims of incest to speak out and is currently a controversial topic in French society.

26th French Film Festival Nov 25 to Dec 3 at SM MOA Megamall

BERNADETTE (The President’s Wife), the latest movie starring French icon Catherine Deneuve provides a glimpse into French politics as she portrays the life of former First Lady Bernadette Chirac in the corridors of the Elysée Palace.

The festival selection also includes two films about the hip-hop scene in France: the fusion of opera singing and urban dance in INDES GALLANTES, and the birth of Suprême NTM.

Other films show different angles of modern-day French society: family life in the comedy ALIBI.COM 2, romantic relationships and friendships in LES CHOSES QU’ON DIT, LES CHOSES QU’ON FAIT (The Things We Say, The Things We Do), while forging new forms of familial love – father-son in a dystopic, sci-fi film LE REGNE ANIMA (Animal Kingdom).

Literary adaptations like LES TROIS MOUSQUETAIRES – D’ARTAGNAN (The Three Musketeers – D’Artagnan), from the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas and ASTERIX ET OBELIX: L’EMPIRE DU MILIEU (Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom) from the popular comic books have become international blockbusters.

The French Film Festival renews its partnership with the QCinema International Film Festival in bringing some of the most critically-acclaimed titles of World Cinema to the local moviegoers such as DAAAALI and LA PASSION DE DODIN BOUFFANT (The Taste of Things), the French entry in the Oscars.

The French Film Festival will also be the occasion to officially launch in the Philippines the campaign “Make It Iconic – Choose France.” This promotes the French “love of action and craftsmanship, the willingness to defend an original vision, the art of not doing anything like others do,” perfectly illustrated through this year’s movie selection.

This year’s selection presents the diversity of French cinema that may appeal to different types of audiences. French Cultural Counsellor Marc Piton states that through the French Film Festival, Filipinos will have the opportunity to see the new French movies that are released worldwide. “French films are commercially successful everywhere and that is why we partner with SM Cinema to be able to reach a wider audience in the country.”

French Ambassador to the Philippines and Micronesia Her Excellency Marie Fontanel believes that the young vibrant population of the Philippines should be exposed to the diversity of cultures, and through cinema, the Filipino youth can have the chance to see a different perspective of life beyond the regular programming of theaters.

In the words of French President Emmanuel Macron, “The French spirit continues to astonish, fascinate and change the world.” French cinema entertains the audience with unexpected twists and turns and delivers messages that can help build a better world. The French Film Festival in Manila is making it iconic.

Regular tickets are at P150 and P100 for students, seniors, and PWDs at the SM MOA and SM Megamall Cinema ticket booths. For the French Film Festival schedule and further information, visit the French Embassy’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FrenchEmbassyPH

To celebrate the launch of “The Hard Rock Messi Kids Menu” – “Where Magic Kicks Off” – Hard Rock took to the pitch and hosted an event at Leo Messi’s new home of Inter Miami CF. Hard Rock is now an official partner of Inter Miami CF, and unveiled the exclusive VIP Hard Rock Terrace at DRV PNK Stadium on October 2nd. Leo Messi and Hard Rock International joined the Inter Miami team DJ and the La Familia Street Team to celebrate this momentous occasion, complete with delicious Messi X Burgers and Messi Golden Chicken Sandwiches, along with kids invited from the local community.

“As a father of three, I have always had a special connection with kids,” said Leo Messi. “Now with my partners at Hard Rock, we will kick-off the new kids menu offering families a variety of tasty meals and a fun dining experience.”

  • GoTyme Bank and PayMongo partner to provide fast, frictionless, flexible financing for SMEs

GoTyme Bank and PayMongo Philippines, Inc. have inked a pioneering partnership to expand financial inclusion among SMEs by making business loans more accessible to thousands of SMEs under PayMongo’s merchant ecosystem. Through the partnership, businesses may avail of loans of up to P500,000 through GoTyme’s banking services.

Nate Clarke, GoTyme Bank CEO, says: “As GoTyme Bank expands to offer more banking products to our customers, we also continue to build meaningful relationships and foster financial inclusion. Through PayMongo Capital powered by GoTyme Bank, we hope to make loans and banking in general more accessible to SMEs and give them the preferred banking experience they deserve.”

A fully digital financial program, PayMongo Capital powered by GoTyme Bank marks both companies’ initial product offering in its expansion efforts. The streamlined and efficient application process eliminates the lengthy paperwork traditionally associated with financial services, providing a seamless, two-minute, two-screen journey. The first screen prompts users to input the desired amount and tenor, while the second screen requires confirmation and verification.

PayMongo merchants who qualify will enjoy seamless disbursement and receive the loaned amount in one (1) banking day, depending on the receiving bank’s processing. Eligible merchants will receive instant approval, and a cash advance offer complete with flexible repayment options—no collaterals required. To track payments, merchants have access to a fully transparent view of loan transactions through the PayMongo merchant dashboard. Other notable features include:

    • Flexible term of the loan – Instead of fixed tenor or term, GoTyme Bank offers tailor-fit financing options for businesses, such as flexible tenor options that align with their unique preference.
    • Transparent pricing – Unlike traditional loans, PayMongo Capital powered by GoTyme Bank does not include hidden fees, processing fees, penalty fees, or interests. Businesses are only required to pay a competitive flat fee, simplifying the financial landscape for borrowers.
    • Flexible pay schedule based on your daily sales and unfixed monthly amount – With PayMongo Capital powered by GoTyme Bank, you can pay more or less than your monthly fee through PayMongo’s easy repayment channel that automatically deducts from a portion of your sales. So merchants can go about their business as usual without worrying about repayments.

By making the process easier and less intimidating, merchants are better empowered to make the best choices for their business.”

“At PayMongo, our unwavering commitment to support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses takes a groundbreaking leap with our partnership with GoTyme Bank. This collaboration is a game-changer for PayMongo merchants, unlocking additional capital to propel their online enterprises toward unparalleled success,” Jojo Malolos, PayMongo CEO, says.

“Together with GoTyme, we capitalize on our shared vision for financial inclusion, leveraging our familiarity with each other to simplify financial solutions. Our streamlined, efficient, and cost-effective approach ensures our valued merchants get the resources they need to make a meaningful impact in their ecosystems. We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities this partnership creates for the business community. This is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation, efficiency, and the success of the SMEs we serve.”
