The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) through its Cultural Exchange Department opens the applications for the 2022 KALINGA NG SINING: Art for Healing and Transformation Subsistence Grants.
Kalinga ng Sining or KNS is a program that provides financial assistance to qualified region based arts/culture/educational organizations, local government units, and non-government organizations. The grant is intended to help these organizations implement contingency strategies that will help alleviate the living conditions of their communities. Since it was opened in 2020 up to 2021, the KNS subsistence grant has assisted 37 local organizations from 35 provinces/local communities nationwide.
Through the local projects and initiatives of the proponents, the KNS SGP enables the implementation of contingency strategies that will support displaced local artists and cultural workers. It also seeks to advocate the significance of art and culture to every Filipino, especially during crisis time, in the hope that the public, mainly the government leaders and lawmakers, will regard it as “essential” elements for human existence, survival and progress.
The focus of the projects are in the following areas: documentation & propagation of local history, heritage, art forms, cultural expressions, and traditions utilizing various new technology and media platforms; presentation of new and/or “hybrid” artistic productions and cultural activities; advancing capacities of artists and cultural workers; and advocacy for arts and culture as “essential” elements for human existence, survival and progress.
All the projects and activities with the KNS support will be implemented from July to October 2022 following the present health and safety protocols and conforming with the restrictions of the present quarantine rules prescribed by the national and local government units.
The project brief, guidelines, and application form can be downloaded from the CCP CED FB page, CCP website or through this link.
The deadline for submission of applications is on May 31, 2022. For more information about KNS, send an email to ccp.ced2014@gmail.com

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Board of Trustees has earmarked around PHP20M development funding for the launching of the CCP Grants which aims to generate original Intellectual Property (IP) content that reflects the country’s rich cultural heritage with its folktales, myths, and legends. This program hopes to stimulate the local creative economy by providing financial and technical and educational support to our local creative businesses, content developers, artists, and students.
By supporting and encouraging Filipinos to create original content, the CCP aims to produce a collection of original IP and a deep understanding of their IP rights and build a national identity in terms of original Filipino content development that will showcase the talent and ingenuity of the Filipino people that is at par with global standards.
According to CCP Board of Trustee Benedict Carandang, “Global Animation Industry revenue is around US$270 Billion and the Philippines contribute to around US$20 million to $30 million per year. We have an estimated 10,000 full-time artists supporting this industry. On the other hand, the Global Gaming market is around US$174.9 Billion, and $1.38 million is the local contribution or .008% of the market worldwide. In the comics industry meanwhile, we have around 1000+ self-published titles, 266 Published titles from 12 Publishers, and an estimated 5000 original IP creators supporting this industry.” Trustee Carandang hopes that the seed investment of the CCP will help encourage future government legislators to support and fund programs like this that can help stimulate the local Creative Economy.
Filipino content creators can pitch their ideas for a chance to win in any of the following three categories, namely: Game Development Grant, Animation Grant, and Comics Grant.
For the Game Development Grant, a potential of four SEC-recognized game development organizations will be awarded a maximum cap funding of PHP1.5M each, and a maximum of PHP300,000 each to independent game developers to create and complete a digital game project with a mix of creative, cultural, and commercial outcomes, and content derived from the CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art.
The Comics grant offers PHP330,000 for a potential of six winners; while the Animation Grant has funding of PHP2M each for four potential winners to bring into life 5-minute animated short films. Both the animation and comics output must be developed around the theme, Philippine Folktales, Myths and Legends. In addition, a training component with leading industry professionals will be integrated for the winners.
CCP Board of Trustee Nikki Junia closes, “In this digital era, visual and literary arts in the form of animation, comics, and even gaming have made an impact in the lives of the public. Animation allows us to tell stories that both children and adults can relate to while it stimulates imagination and creativity bringing it to real life. Comics are a creative way of communicating history and sharing cultures that can be intriguing and entertaining. An equally thriving industry is the gaming industry, as it helps build communities and connect people from all over the world. All these art forms are important to be given attention to as they can support the preservation, development, and awareness of the culture and arts that will be engaging for today’s generation.”
The CCP Grants program is supported by the following associations namely Creative Content Creators Association of the Philippines (SIKAP), Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI), and KOMIKET. Filipino individuals and organizations at all stages of their careers are invited to join.

Artist Network and wellness lifestyle brand Grounded is launching the second part of their exhibition series entitled States of Cadence II.
In partnership with Art Fair Philippines, States of Cadence II is a multi-sensory exhibit on timelessness and infinite evolution of the human spirit, through connection, compassion, and engagement with the natural world.
Grounded Holistic Arts Studio’s States of Cadence II Opening Night at Karrera Showroom for Art Fair Philippines 2022
Grounded is known for their support of grassroots and emerging artists. The arts and wellness platform aims to showcase their works through a holistic approach, reinventing the experience, for both artist and collector, through the practice of innovative and dynamic ways people discover and purchase artwork.
Whereas States of Cadence Exhibit I was presented solely online, for States of Cadence II, Grounded has partnered with Karrera Showroom, a vintage car showroom and cafe based in Alabang, for its physical space.
The exhibition features paintings, prints, tapestries, photographs, and other mixed media works that bear witness to the Grounded Artist Network’s ongoing artistic investigation into various shades of time interspersed with cadence – a natural rhythm, a frequency that the artists coalesce with to truly express themselves.
Artists from the Grounded Artist Network with Grounded Holistic Arts Studio Founder Marika Manglapus-Ledesma
Offering an intimate portrayal of boundless beauty through art, States of Cadence II features the work of 20 artists from the Grounded Artist Network Program, presenting insights that transcend boundaries by introducing both specific and expanded narratives of various states of evolution through the lens of timelessness.
Force of Nature fundraiser for the benefit of schools in Siargao island affected by Typhoon Odette, featuring works by Camille Robiou du Pont and Caress Banson
New acquisitions on view for the first time include photographs from featured artist, French photographer Camille Robiou Du Pont whose work knits together sensory journeys of the wild woman through water surface, depths, island ecology, freedom, dreams and rootedness in duality–all under the umbrella of cosmic elements reveling in the beauty and prowess of the Divine feminine.
In line with this, Maddie Camcam’s striking work radiates with vibrant themes of feminine strength, grace, and sisterhood, whereas Lucia Fischer also explores themes of feminism and female identity, however focusing on destabilizing ideas concerning the “male gaze” and gender rhetorics that have dominated cultural perceptions and traditions throughout the human timeline.
Painter and illustrator Ana Abigail dedicates her floral series on fragility to loved ones lost to the pandemic, as captured in her exploration of color in oil on round canvases.
Toph Camcam’s pieces invigorate the soul as a visual feast, as much as they are based on food as a celebration of humanity and reflection of identity and culture.
This selection from the Grounded Artist Network, among many other intricately curated works, invites the viewer to explore the intricate, labyrinthine systems and states of being, and the reparative role that art and compassion plays within these systems.
States of Cadence II will run until April 1, 2022, alongside exciting events including a wellness workshop, film night, watch showcase and fundraiser for schools in Siargao Island affected by Typhoon Odette. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibition are dedicated to Grounded’s partner beneficiary, Oceanus Conservation.
States of Cadence II is now available for viewing at the @artfairph website (https://bit.ly/3D9GGc0). For purchasing inquiries and more information, follow @groundedph or email contact@groundedph.com.

Typhoon Odette Fundraiser
“On December 16, 2021, Typhoon Odette struck the Philippines and Siargao Island was one of the most devastated places. We wanted to take the opportunity of being a part of Art Fair Philippines to raise awareness and funds for Siargao, as it is a place that Grounded is deeply rooted in. We have a number of artists that were based in Siargao, and the devastation really hit close to home. Our featured artist for States of Cadence at AFP, Camille Robiou du Pont took these eerily beautiful photos of the destruction of Typhoon Odette, which is the centerfold and inspiration of the fundraiser that will be exhibited at the fair.” – Marika Manglapus-Ledesma
In light of recent events surrounding the devastation brought about by Typhoon Odette, Grounded has partnered with Oceanus Conservation and continues its commitment to ocean advocacy by raising funds for the rebuilding of schools in Siargao Island. The exhibit features Camille’s eerily arresting photos of the destruction of Typhoon Odette, as well as her portraits engraved on wood by Siargao local artist Niko Kanar.

The Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) upcoming 55th anniversary coincides with an important event in society: the upcoming national elections.
To celebrate this significant milestone, PETA aptly streams Liza Magtoto’s martial law musical for millennials, A Game of Trolls, directed by Maribel Legarda, with lyrics, composition, arrangement, and musical direction by Vincent de Jesus via ktx.ph on April 8, 22, and 23.
“PETA remains steadfast in our mission to use the arts to reflect people’s stories and examine the past and present. Now even more, is a critical time to use theater as a vehicle for introspection and truth-telling, to use theater as a beacon of truth!” PETA Executive Director Beng Cabangon asserts.
“In our 50-year history, we have always stood for democracy. Every election is an opportunity to remind every Filipino of each one’s power to choose the leaders who will chart the path of our future,” she adds.
Through this effort, PETA hopes to reach 8,000 youth who comprise the 56% of the 67 million registered voters who are expected to troop to the polling stations.
PETA President CB Garrucho passionately expresses the urgency to stream A Game of Trolls, “We would like to make a solid contribution to combat the flood of disinformation and historical revisionism. We want to tell a powerful and engaging story about the abuses of the Marcos years. As artists, we owe it to the next generation to tell these narratives so that the lessons learned are ingrained in their hearts and so that all Filipinos, especially the young, will join the chorus: NEVER AGAIN.”
As the oppressors of the past continue their attempts to gain power, A Game of Trolls remains relevant, especially today.
Support PETA’s emerald year as the company solidifies its mission to keep the torch of conscience alive as Filipinos aim to rise to the challenge of evolving, changing, and expanding during these transformative times.

Conrad Manila proudly presents its curtain raiser for 2022, the latest installment of its highly-acclaimed ‘Of Art and Wine’ art exhibit at the hotel’s Gallery C, this time featuring the works of the Association of Pinoyprintmakers (AP) in cooperation with The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
“We are delighted to celebrate both our successful 5th year of operations and market leadership through the continued patronage of our guests and resiliency of our team, together with the 50th Year Anniversary of the CCP,” shares Linda Pecoraro, hotel general manager, adding “we recognize the CCP’s continued passion and pursuit of Filipino artistry and excellence together with the Association of Pinoyprintmakers, as we hope to inspire others in our continued recovery as one nation.”
Linda stated that “’20/30 Of Art and Wine exhibit underscores Conrad Manila’s commitment in providing guests with inspired stays in a world of style and infinite connections through Filipino hospitality and culture, and champions the Filipino artists by providing a haven for creative expression and true artistry.”
Leading the “Of Art and Wine: 20/30” art exhibit opening are: Elizabeth Sy, President, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC); Peggy Angeles, Executive Vice President, SMHCC; Ms. Margie Moran Floirendo, Chairperson, CCP; Arsenio Lizaso, President, CCP; Chris Millado, Vice President and Artistic Director, CCP; Benjie Torrado Cabrera, President, AP; and Linda Pecoraro, General Manager, Conrad Manila.
The print portfolio comes in two special sets, a collection of fine prints using traditional printmaking techniques by noted artists who have contributed to the development of Philippine contemporary printmaking. Each serves a precious collectible for patrons of Philippine art.
Included in the folios are exquisite artworks in relief printing, intaglio and serigraph printing. There are woodcut prints by Ambie Abaño and Elmer Borlongan, and rubbercuts by Leonard Aguinaldo, Hershey Malinis, Manuel Ocampo, Jonathan Olazo, Suchin Teoh and the late Neil Doloricon. It also includes a special restrike of a woodcut work by the late Rod Paras Perez dated 1963.
Renan Ortiz and Radel Paredes created highly detailed drypoint prints while Fil Delacruz’s work makes use of mezzotint and engraving, with portions made using a special etching technique, combining both acid and non-acid intaglio processes in one print. 20/30 contains etchings by National Artist BenCab, Alfredo Juan Aquilizan, Virgilio Aviado, Joey Cobcobo, Janos Delacruz, Jess Flores, Eugene Jarque, Henrielle Baltazar Pagkaliwangan, and the late Rhoda Recto. The etching of Juvenal Sansó is a restrike from a plate made by the artist in 1962. Also included are prints that combine both etching and aquatint, as seen in the works of Benjie Torrado Cabrera, Imelda Cajipe Endaya, Yas Doctor, Raul Isidro, Villia Jefremovas, Angelo Magno, Caroline Ongpin and Anton Villaruel. Lenore RS Lim also makes use of the sugarlift process on top of etching and aquatint.
Collographs, on the other hand, can be created through the relief or intaglio process, as seen in Kristen Cain’s work for 20/30. The emboss method, which may be more familiar to many, is also a type of printmaking technique, however unlike the rest, it does not require ink for an image to appear. The work of Christina Quisumbing Ramilo is an expertly done emboss based on an installation piece by the artist.
Serigraphy, possibly the most widely used among printing techniques, is a method of printing that uses a mesh over a stretched frame. 20/30 includes serigraph prints by Mars Bugaoan, Salvador Ching, Noell EL Farol, Rodolfo Samonte, Jun-Jun Sta. Ana and Wesley Valenzuela.
“Of Art and Wine: 20/30” at Conrad Manila’s Gallery C runs until April 2, 2022. The exhibit opening is presented in partnership with the Philippine Wine Merchants.
